This is definitely not a typical mail-order bride book. It went so much deeper than that! The struggle between the two main characters was amusing. I liked that they didn’t just jump into a romantic relationship right away. They had to learn who they are and how to forgive past hurts before they could move forward into a life together. I would definitely recommend this book!
I was given a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author, but was not required to write a review. The thoughts and comments are my own.
I enjoyed this book so very much!! The characters and the plot were delightful and kept my attention the whole way through the book! I hated to say goodbye to Yancy and her friends. I felt like they were my friends too! In some of the scenes I could imagine myself there quite well. I didn't want do come back!! In other scenes I found myself giggling so much that my husband asked me what was so funny. I took this book everywhere with me and I even had someone ask me what the title was and I recommended it to them. I hope they pick it up to read and get a lot of enjoyment out of as I did! I strongly recommend this book. NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own.
While I find mail-order bride stories intriguing, I also admit that I tend to be very picky about them because it's difficult to make the romance believable. The added twist to the premise of this novel had me instantly intrigued because it would eliminate at least part of what typically stunts the realism for me. I felt the romance thread was well-played and the conflict was thoroughly amusing. I admit to having a bit of difficulty keeping all of the characters straight in the beginning, but I know that at least part of that was because they existed in other books of the series. As the story progressed the character confusion smoothed itself out though and I was able to get into the story more.
Overall I found this to be an enjoyable read and one that was easily able to hold my attention. I recommend to fans of historical fiction and mail-order brides.

Yancey Palmer has loved Hale Adams since she was a little girl, but she has finally put her crush on Hale to rest after the Archer Matrimonial Agency matches her with a mysterious man from Denver. She agrees to help Hale run for mayor in Helena, MT because she believes that she may be moving to Denver to start a life with Nathaniel St. John.
Hale Adams has engaged the services of a matrimonial agency to help him find a bride, but none of the matches please him, and the ladies of the Archer Matrimonial Agency are almost at their wits end to find him a match, until they come up with a scheme. Hale has a predictable, but lonely schedule, working all day, then dining alone every day.
But when the real identity of their matches are revealed, can they look past their past and misunderstanding to give love a chance?
Though the third in the series, it can be read as a stand alone though there are wonderful references to previous characters in this book.
An engaging tale of misunderstandings and miscommunication, Hale and Yancey are opposites who compliment each other well. Hale is more introverted, and tends to shy away from crowds and big social events, while Yancey is very personable, and natural in social situations. Hale and Yaney both bring out the best in each other, and their friendship rekindles naturally while they both assume that they are writing to someone else.
Yancey really grows in her faith over the course of the book, and she encourages Hale to deal with pain from the past.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read, with great characters, engaging plot, and even a mystery on the side with an undercover counterfeit ring. I really liked the original plot, and how Yancey and Hale interact, with their differences becoming their strengths. I like how they both grow in their faith and as people. I loved every bit of it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A truly delightful story that grabbed my attention from the first. Young love is always hard, especially when you are ten years old and the object of your affection is older and you don't see them again for several years. But Yancey Palmer made up her mind she just had to get over Hale Adams and move on. Luckily through the Archer Matrimonial Company she had begun a correspondence with a man that truly seemed perfect! Hale Adams has decided to run in the Mayoral campaign. He'd also corresponded with a lady he was matched to through the Archer Matrimonial Company and just knew they would be perfect together. Or at least he hoped so. He wanted a home and family and be happy like his wonderful aunt and uncle. But fate, no make that Antonia, owner of said Matrimonial company when she heard Yancey's story about her love for Hale. She had them corresponding to each other but neither knew it was them! Such a sweet story as these two begin to be around each other.. There had been a lot of misunderstandings and as the two try to work their way through, can they find true happiness? This story just warmed my heart and cannot wait to read more!
Wow! I was completely wowed by the depth of this book! It was incredible. I have not read any of the previous books in this series, so yes, you can read it as a stand alone quite comfortably. Having read this one, I can't wait to read the rest of them. It starts out humorously & light hearted, then layers are added, similar to a beautiful cake. You first appreciate the decor & then you taste the frosting. After which you try the cake it's self. You knew you were getting a cake, & even knew the flavor you had chosen, but until you actually taste it you dont know if it is what you were wanting. This book has it all. Giggles, seriousness, pain, & real life with happiness & love sprinkled throughout. I love how it points out that God allows us to chose to forgive, whild we are called to do. An easy 5 stars for this book.
This book is set in Montana. It is a part of the Montana Brides series. This can be read as a stand alone. In this book, you will meet Yancey and Hale. They have known each other for awhile. Yancey has had a thing for Hale for as long as she can remember. Hale, however does not feel the same way. Hale actually considers Yancey a thorn in his side. Both are corresponding with someone and Yancey accepts a marriage proposal to her mysterious suitor. When it is discovered it is Hale - it becomes interesting. Hale wants to back out, but is encouraged to try and make it work for the sake of his campaign. Can they put their differences aside and work together? Read it to find out.
I love the characters in this story. It is so well written. Great and intriguing storyline.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley and JustRead tours. All thoughts are my own.
I truly enjoyed this storyline. This was an author I had not yet had the privilege of reading before this book, and it did strike me as a book that was likely part of a series. However, I was very pleased at how the author wrote this story in a way that it could completely stand alone, but yet previous events that were pertinent were touched on enough that the reader did not ever feel lost. I also appreciated the clear attention to grammar and punctuation. These details just add clear and concise readability which I always appreciate tremendously.
I have read a lot of historical fiction, as this is one of my most favorite genres. Many of the books I read have a similar style and plot lines to one another. I can often tell exactly what will happen next as I read. This is not always as enjoyable, as I do like some twists within the storylines at times. I enjoyed how this book began with strong characters who had a solid history together that was not simple. As I read and discovered the first twist that was taking place when the author had the matchmaker change names between Hale and Yancy, I had a completely different idea in my mind of the direction this story was going to take. I was actually hoping that plot twist I was envisioning was not going to be the reality, as it would have really cheapened the story for me. However, she took it a whole different direction when she had the matchmaker own up to what she had done before just throwing the two characters together. Also, all of the other sub stories are strong and exciting! I love all of the strong characters on the sideline, and how they fit into a very big picture that goes so much deeper than just Hale and Yancy, and whether or not they will be together in the end.
I greatly enjoyed the depth of the storylines throughout this book! I also felt this to be the perfect length for this book. It did not feel drawn out, and also did not feel like it was so short that details were lost along the way. I will absolutely be seeking more books by this author in the future! Great book!
My Thoughts on The Telegraph Proposal: This is such a sweet book. Definitely one I would classify as a Christian romance novel. It’s not a historical novel in that there aren’t any major historic events going on but it is set back in time a bit.
I am always intrigued by books that are written by more than one author. How do they collaborate? Does one write the dialogue from one person while the other does the other? Who comes up with the ideas? Do they write together or separate? All the questions run through my head and of course, I know they’re not getting answered, but that doesn’t stop me from asking them!
Matchmaking!
I love the concept of matchmaking. It’s such a fun and old fashioned approach. These two friends have long given up on romance. One pines for the other in fact. But instead, they both turn to a matchmaking service. Only the matchmaking service has decided they have a perfect match waiting for them! Each other!
Hilarious!
I really enjoyed watching this journey between the two coming to terms with who they are and how they can love the other.
Hale definitely does not want to be matched with Yancey. He finds her annoying and has a nice long list of her wrongs. Yancey, on the other hand, has been smitten with Hale for over ten years! Can she convince him that she’s not the annoying spoiled girl he thinks she is? Watch as she gets to run his mayoral campaign to prove herself.

Yancy Palmer has love Hale Adam’s most of her life, but pursuing him was no good because he ignored her. Circumstances leads both to sign up with the Archer Matrimonial Company to try and find someone to care for. But they were not expecting what they found.
I enjoyed this book so much! I loved the characters, and the plot was great, keeping my attention throughout the book. I wanted to know the ending, though I didn’t want the book to end. I didn’t read the first two books in this series, but the author did a good job of adding enough from the first two reads to make this a good standalone. There is a lot of humor in the book as well that makes it even more fun and entertaining. And you might just find a little mystery added as well. Overall, this is an awesome book to read. If you are looking for a light, fun story, this is a good one to try.

If you’ve read the previous two books in the Montana Brides series, The Telegraph Proposal gives you an opportunity to catch up with some familiar fictional friends. But don’t concern yourself if you haven’t, once you get to know some of the Helena, Montana characters, you’ll feel like a part of this group of people too.
Yancey and Hale both carry misconceptions about each other. Yancey has put Hale on a pedestal for years. Hale has seen Yancey as annoying and selfish, avoiding her whenever possible. What neither of them has taken into consideration is that the other is human. Hale has made mistakes. Yancey has grown up. And when they correspond without realizing the truth of who they are writing to, some of those things come to light.
There are some difficult, tragic moments in The Telegraph Proposal. There are also some silly, humorous scenes. There are growing pains for Yancey and Hale. And I appreciated how Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham didn’t avoid any of it because the and the bad, the forward progress and the steps back, the friendships and family all work together to shape these two characters.

Gina Welborn and Becca Whitman have worked together to create this final story in The Montana Brides Inspirational Romance Series. I have not as yet read any of the previous books in the series and did not feel as though I was missing any information. The authors provide background to this historical fiction novel; helping the reader understand the history behind the novel. Not only is The Telegraph Proposal a great clean romance it also provides, in story form, a lesson in how our actions can and do affect those around us and the need for forgiveness. The characters seem very real - at times I want to shake some sense into them and at other times I wanted to hug them and let them cry on my shoulder. I would not hesitate to add TheTelegraph Proposal to my k-12 Christian school library. It would be appropriate for middle school and up. I want to thank JustRead Publicity Tours for the complimentary e-copy of The Telegraph Proposal. This is my honest review.
I love marriage of convenience stories and mail order brides definitely fall into this category so I went into this excited about another wonderful story. I got this and more. A mail order bride story with a twist. What I wasn't expecting was the whiplash of sudden change in events a few chapters in but this drew me in and held me spellbound from then on. Although there was no mystery or suspense to uncover, the issues dealt with through the course of the story like forgiveness and second chances had me turning the pages. The romance thread was well written. I like that they didn't just jump at a chance to be together they had been through so much and had been hurt in the process. They had to learn to forgive and get past previous hurts to truly be together. A truly delightful read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from JustRead as part of a blog tour. All opinions expressed are mine.
The Telegraph Proposal By Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham The Telegraph Proposal is book 3 in, A Montana Brides Inspirational Romance series. The story had previous books characters and plot lines in it however I read this book only. By the end, it all made sense whether you read one book or all three. The story begins with the help of Archer Matrimonial Company. Rather than simply doing as her mother asks, Antonia Archer sees an opportunity to prove her worth to run her own office in the future. She realizes that Yancey Palmer and Hale Adams are meant for one another but their past is delicate. With a little help perhaps, she can help guide them into one another’s arms. Helena, Montana gets a little more interesting as Yancy Palmer and Hale Adams try to work together to run his election. The tension in their relationship is thick as they struggle to overcome their past but with believed budding romances of their own, they realize that they can work together for the purpose of bettering Helena. There is someone out there who is wreaking havoc to Helena and its residents; somehow Yancy and Hale land right in the middle of it. This was a fun read and I truly enjoyed the plot. I think my lack of reading the previous books made the intrigue and mystery of this book all the better. I enjoy a book more when I can empathize with the characters or relate in some way. I enjoyed Yancy’s character as I believe we share attributes. I enjoyed the themes of justice and forgiveness. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Poor Yancey! She fell in love with Hale when she was ten and he rescued her from a bully. Throwing herself at him every chance she got, trying to make him jealous, and breaking up his courtship with her older sister only caused him to despise her.
When I read the synopsis, I knew this would be a great story! It only hinted at the tangled web that had been woven for Hale and Yancey.
I enjoyed reading this story. I felt deeply for Yancey's pain over Hale's rejection and especially for her grief when she found out the man who finally drew her affections away from Hale was none other than Hale. And he hated her and blamed her for being responsible for the deception!
Contrary to what I expected, Yancey was a complex woman with a generous heart and a passion to serve. She had a great maturity and was wonderful in coming up with amazing ideas for Hale's campaign. And she had great wisdom that she was able to use to encourage her friends. I loved that she cared enough for Hale that she wasn't willing to accept his love when his heart wasn't ready.
Unbeknownst to Hale and Yancey, while they worked on his campaign, their friends and family were embroiled in drama surrounding counterfeiting and human trafficking. The principals in this drama were known due to the way the story was written so it wasn't a mystery, yet it was unknown how things would work out.
Hale suffered from mistrust and unforgiveness. He needed to be able to get past these and there is a spiritual component here as he learned how to let these things go.
I felt a little lost at the beginning as events from the past were hinted at. This is likely because this is the first book in the series I have read or it could have been due to the way facets of their history were slowly revealed. So it might help reading this series in order.
If you enjoy historical fiction with a spiritual element, then The Telegraph Proposal and the Montana Brides series is not to be missed!
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
I rarely jump into a series when it's finishing up, but I'm so glad I did in this case! The story was so much fun to read, with colorful characters, an engaging plot, and amazing character development. The progression the main characters made in a short time frame was really well done. It felt realistic and was a learning experience for me, as I had my doubts that it could be done. While it would have probably helped to have read the first two books prior to this one, it was simple for me to catch up and understand what had happened before. My enjoyment of the story was not impeded in any way, and it makes me wish there were to look forward to with this series.
Hale Adams and Yancey Palmer are most definitely *not* a match made in heaven. Yancey has been in love with Hale since she was ten, but her obsession with convincing him that they are perfect for each other has become overbearing through the years. Now wishing to marry someone, but not each other, both turn to a matchmaking service to find love at last. The matchmaker is having a hard time with Hale though, as he rejected the last nine candidates, and so, after hearing Yancey's tale of unrequited love, decides to match the two of them instead. Only they have no idea that they are each other's match! When they decide to meet in person, they are shocked, and soon they have to deal with their conflicting emotions. They loved each other on paper, but in person it remains to be seen.
Hearing the backstory of Hale and Yancey, I was extremely skeptical of this relationship. Yancey was almost scarily obsessed with Hale, and I didn't blame him for not liking her for it. I didn't see how they could possibly fall in love. However, the letters they exchanged began to kindle the flame, and once they realized their matches were each other, that spark of interest had already been established. It was only a matter of time before they realized that they loved each other, they just had to get past old hurts in order to find themselves together. I loved when Hale began to court Yancey, and their love was so real and natural. Their reconciliation wasn't instantaneous, and it took a lot of effort from both of them. The character development really hit home with me, and I couldn't wait to see how everything turned out in the end.
I'm so glad to have discovered new authors in Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham! Now I need to go back and read the first two books in this series...
**I received a free copy via NetGalley and this is my honest review.**
Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham have teemed up to write a great historical romance. It has all the parts and moving pieces of an entertaining read--the hero and heroine, the support cast, and the surprising bad guy to give it some intrigue to hold the reader's attention. Beyond that, it wasn't a formulaic romance.
Yancey has signed up for a marriage matching service. She feels she's about to be on the shelf, and the man she has loved for years wants nothing to do with her. Hale Adams has been asked to step in as a candidate for mayor and Yancey has been asked to help out with his campaign. Yancey has been over-exuberant in her pursuit of his affections. When she overhears him saying something about her being a pest, she decides to leave him alone and concentrate on the man the matching service has provided to her.
In the meantime, a search is on for a counterfeiter who is spending fake $5 bills in nearby towns, but trying to keep them out of Helena, Montana, to throw suspicion off of him. The only problem is that the counterfeiter is Hale's uncle and the judge for the area.
This is an appealing book worth five stars, two thumbs up, and a proposal by telegraph.
My thanks go to NetGalley.com and Kensington Books for providing the galley I read for this review.
After being denied the man of her dreams, by the man of her dreams, since she was a young girl, Yancey Palmer gives up and contacts the Archer Matrimonial Company in hopes of finding someone to love who will love her back.
Yancey is assigned a man and she begins a correspondence with him. Yancey promises a friend she would help her unrequited love run for mayor without chasing him. Sure she is falling in love with the man she is corresponding with, she feels she can help without issues arising.
Hale Adams needs a wife. A mayoral candidate looks better to the people if he is happily married. Besides, it was time to settle down anyway. He contacts the Archer Matrimonial Company and they set him up with a lovely young woman and he starts writing to her. What will Yancey think about her once dream man marrying another woman? Will Yancey and/or Hale find true love through the Archer Matrimonial Company?
If you like clean, historical romances, then you are bound to love this one. Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham make a fabulous writing team and they show it in The Telegraph Proposal. Pick up a copy and see what I mean. Enjoy!
I borrowed this book from my local library and voluntarily leave my honest review.
Yancey and Hale's story was complicated. Yancey had know since she was 10 years old and Hale was 18 that she was going to marry him one day. But, the way she went about it was unwanted so Hale wanted nothing to do with Yancey. In fact, he disliked her greatly. Finally, when Yancey finally realized her unwanted advances weren't going to accomplish what she wanted, she finally backed off. Then, she was asked to help Hale in his campaign for mayor of Helena, Montana. She spent a lot of time with Hale and the more Hale saw who she really was, the more he realized he liked what he saw.
This story has drama, romance, tragedy, death, suspense and so much more. It held my interest and kept me up when I should have been sleeping some nights. It is a clean story with no sex or foul language but there is some violence, although not very graphic in nature.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I really enjoyed this historical fiction story because it takes place in Montana Territory before the small town of Helena was named the Capital of Montana. As with all small towns everyone loves to gossip and the two main characters Yancey and Hale have a long and annoying history they both would like to forget. When they have to work together on Hale’s campaign for Mayor their newly formed truce will be sorely tested by mysterious events, devious characters and life lessons for Hale, Yancey and the entire town as this dramatic and heartfelt series comes to a close. I recommend reading the books in order for maximum enjoyment. I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
I enjoyed book three in the Montana Brides Romance series. It did take me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did, I happily kept turning the pages. (You do need to read the others in the series to follow what’s going on in book 3.)
Opposites attract in this tale of miscommunication and misunderstanding. We see throughout how “no man is an island” because our actions affect others. And in this book boy, did their actions affect others. Well developed, colorful characters move the story along at a good pace with the occasional surprise twist.
Clean romance, mystery, and intrigue make this a book well worth reading if you enjoy historical fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review
Growing pains. It's good to go back to this town and these people. Yancey has loved Hale for years, but he's always tried to avoid her attention. They both turn to a matrimonial agency, with unexpected results. The town has a murder mystery that needs to be solved. The story is very well told, as usual. I felt connected right to the end. Excellent story! There is both good and bad in many situations, their faith carries them through I received this book free from the publisher and NetGalley book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. #TheTelegraphProposal #NetGalley
Imagine a matrimonial company that helps people find their future mate. Precursor to the modern online match-up sites, a woman in Montana Territory offers this service. Yancey Palmer has pursued Hale Adams for years, but finally decided he’s not her match. However, her friend plots to get them together and uses the service her attempt. Can such a scheme work? This intriguing tale offers an enjoyable read. I hadn’t read the second book in the series, and I think it would have been a richer reading experience to read the books in order so all the backstory shared in this one is familiar. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
The Telegraph Proposal is a lovely story with a great ending, but I'm not sure how the telegraph is actually involved. It was a very minor part of the story. But I did enjoy reading about how Yancey who has been in love with Hale for ten years, gives him up only to have him finally fall for her. Very entertaining story that also at one point, made me cry. Great story I will enjoy reading again.
The Telegraph Proposal is a well written and entertaining historical romance. I always enjoy mail order bride stories and this book was no exception. I recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
I started this series expecting just another sweet but mundane mail order brides story. I got the sweet and the mail order brides but it was definitely not mundane! So many twists I didn't see coming. Excellent journey!!
The Telegraph Proposal is the third installment from the Montana Brides series. I have enjoyed this series and I believe this one is my favorite to date. I give it four and a half stars.
