This story has no structure to it. It is flat with no depth. Things happen and the protagonist reacts but his motivation feels artificial, constructed to get to the next plot point rather than from any human emotion. The fight sceens are okey, but again, without solid motivational stakes I don't care about the outcome. Overall, disappointingly boring, like biting into that slice of cake that looks so good on the plate but is made up of sugar and oil that leaves your mouth sickly sweet and your stomach heavy.

My review is based on the audible version of this book. I really wanted to like this, there is so much potential in the story line, but it's incredibly difficult to get through:

1.) This has a problem most of these litRPG have; there is no build up to anything. He shows up in a world and is like 'I will protect you guy no matter what'! No one, no matter how self sacrificing, acts that way. Most of the issues could have been solved by more details and much more of a build up. I don't care about any of the characters in this because we spent 5 seconds learning about them and now they are the most important ever.

2.) Having a good narrator is important and this one has a very unfortunate one for this book. The woman narrator did a decent job, the issue comes with Alex Perone. This appears to be one of his first narrations so that could be the issue. However, his emotion that he is conveying when he reads a part is half the time wildly different than the book is trying to convey.

All that glitters

Well I can honestly say I never expected that a dragon would glitter bomb someone to heal them. The pacing was good and I enjoyed the progression of the plot during the book. Overall I enjoyed it.

This Isekai-Fantasy novel series has 20 volumes and this is the first volume of the entire series. The main argument is that the main character, Evan, is a black dragon. No explanation given by the author, except for a mask and a special mirror. Is it possible to start such a big novel series, with such a weak and short explanation?
Miasma is the smell of raw sewage. In the fantasy novel series, miasma is the dark/black magic that feeds Monsters and Beasts, like the mana/Qi/Aether/magic energy that magic users use to be able to execute spells and magical abilities.
Author explains teleportation in a paragraph, but creates a trap of using all of the main character’s, Evan’s, “healing magic” in a page, to run out, when the main character knew that there were still villagers missing, sick and in need of healing to get urgently cured. Author on purpose used up the main character’s healing magic, so that Alyona would risk death. What healer uses up all their energy/mana/Qi/magic to heal even old wounds, if there are still people sick and dying from the miasma? Why does the author create a trap, obvious to the readers, and then make the main characters fall into the trap? Is it bad writing?
But it seems it is a chronic disease or sin of the author, because the same trap style is created with the summoning circles within Hatra, Evan and some of the rest felt the bad vibes from Olivier, and yet, did not act, let things happen and thousands of miasma-filled-corrupted-bandits were killing the few Hatra villagers. Why if they knew the danger, they knew Olivier was evil, they still allowed the bad crisis to happen? Is it to tire and anger the readers?
Volume one has 200+ pages with 16 chapters, making it about 13-15 pages for each chapter on average. The novel series has some world development and less character development than a good novel series should. Because dragons tend to be capricious, greedy and sensual beings, the author has used this as an excuse to create a harem-like story for the main character Evan. Sexual situations for this first volume happen until the end. This author tends to prioritize sex to the actual story, so I don't know how the other volumes will be organized and probably will not be like this first one. The premise/argument of this fantasy-isekai novel series is still weak, so hopefully author will explain why main character Evan is a dragon and can travel to other worlds so that the readers can finally be convinced.

Something's missing

All in all it is a very well done book. The grammar, spelling, and punctuation are all on point. Many indie authors seem to skimp on editors/editing but that is not the case here.

I'm going to read the next book, so this book isn't bad, but there's something off to me. Perhaps it's the repeated phrases or things being stated then stated again slightly differently either in the same paragraph or the next. It's not terrible, it doesn't ruin the book, I just remember catching those things enough to remember them.

Probably could be 4 stars, but I'm leaving it at 3 because I can't shake the feeling that something is off.

Not terrible I suppose. It is readable but nothing special, and I found the sex scene at the end a bit silly. Not much to say about this one. He becomes a dragon in another world and starts helping some town after encountering an group of adventurers. Characters are okay, writing is okay, plot is okay. If you have anything better to read, read that instead but reading this is sufficient to pass the time. Don't think I will read the next book though.

Less and more than I had hoped

I was really hoping for a good fantasy wuxia/litRPG novel. It's sort of that. There's a significant amount of romance that actually fights with the adventure elements of the story. If you like romance with adventure thrown in, then go for this. Here's to hoping the main character stops oogling women at inopportune times in the next book.

This is pretty average book from this author, better than some and weaker than others. Standard harem elements with a side of cultivation makes the focus a bit diffuse, but the development of the MC's dragon personality (hoarding, etc.) might be interesting so I'll give book 2 a try.

Immature writter

Some of the reviews said this book reads like a preteen
wrote it, and I have to agree. From the very simple story, to the gratuitous use of "fuck", way too often, and the descriptive sex at the end, all seem amateurish at best. Would not recommend this book.

Awesome read!

Don't know why I waited so long to get into this series. The book was fantastic from beginning to end, with well developed characters, a vibrant world we're only just beginning to explore and an amazing story I couldn't put down

Great start to a great series!

Pretty alright

It's alright, there's some typos and the plot is pretty decent but a bit haphazard at times. It's a book that you could read and there's worse options out there.

Good Read, not steller

Good Story, the flow seemed to skip a few times, my disbelief rose up once or twice as well. Overall, decent, but not impressive.

A good beginning to a long series showing some of its potential although not perfect by any means.

The story is simple but it's well executed and I understand it's just the beginning with good enough support characters, didn't find fault in them, maybe just the fact that they seemingly keep forgeting the MC is someone from another world and don't tell him some important things beforehand which in some cases put his life at risk or makes him have some embarrasing moments.

Now the MC, I would say he's decent, a good natured fellow that always thinks in how to save the most lives and the reason he studies to be an EMT on Earth. My problem with him is that once he gets to the other world his motivations seem to vary just because the story needs to, he saves the lives of some adventurers he founds to be engaging in battle (which it's not totally out of the question considering his background on Earth) and immediately decides to help them save the village they come from and all its people, and this is where you have to ask why? I can understand not letting people die before your eyes but would you care about a whole city which is being atacked and you don't even know how to use your new power? seems contrived in my opinion, it's not bad but doesn't sound natural. That also leads me to the other problem, the MC is naive, for example since the beggining they told him that dragons are bad and cruel so what did he do when he founds one? he goes and try to talk to him but has to run for his life when he could avoid the problem altogether. Or also when the village is atacked and MC focus on healing the villagers (good) and also their old wounds even if this uses more energy (What!?) and like anyone with common sense could have predicted he gets empty and then something major happens but he doesn't has energy anymore to reverse the situation. Even though he is sometimes clever judging from his battles but in the end he is naive and I hope he can improve on that.

The romance aspect is good, somewhat short in its first phase, advancing quickly to the second stage a little too quick with the main heroine but it's okay, I'm glad there isn't much drama in this case.

The grammar and spelling is almost perfect, I just detected an instance at like half the book when the narrator refers to a child named "Ilya", it's a boy but he was referred to as a "she" in a sentence.

I extended more on the problems than i Would like but I think it's worth it to continue reading for the next books unless there is a major letdown afterwards.

a good start

I was going to give this one 4 stars ⭐️ but I know how Vall is… he’s amazingly talented and good… even though there was lots to absorb and take in he did it in stages and the world building came naturally at a good pace. The characters are really decent as well. Our MC although you can tell will be very OP he isn’t a total chad and he isn’t a soy boi wet noodle. He knows there’s room to grow and he knows what he has to do. I just hope he also embraces his dragon heritage and be as brutal as possible to protect those that he loves…. But since this is a Vall book I know our MC will be able to do this and be quite the stud at the same time. I’m just waiting for Laika to join the “team” 😂 she’s already halfway there… the elders, although older already defer to him and know he will be their leader… I like this as well. They’re smart and know who to back. I love the two asuran Prince and Princess… the way she speaks about herself in the third person is so cute. That poor sweetheart did such a good job. They both did under such terrible conditions and circumstances. This was a good first book… now, I can’t wait for him to go back to that red dragon for get backs… but this is a Vall book and that red dragon will end up in his harem not giving up her powers… mark my words… well, she’ll give up her powers 🤭😉 onward lads!!

The no power dragon

I disliked the boy dragon acting more like a mouse . The writer for some reason has chosen to write a out a dragon with no defensive power and he has had to run away from a female.dragon . I have been watching and reading fantasy for years and this book 1 has been a disappointment. As far as fantasy . I believe all writers write to satisfy themselves and hope that we the reader likes what we read . This writer may have a mind to give their dragon more power as books go on but I have found that most for reasons I hesitate to mention write with the pole and carrot in mind . I did not finish this book as when a male dragon has to run from any dragon that ends the story for me . The story line may end well but the beginning of every story has to give me something to stay with the story line . If you choose to read this story you will decide if you want to go past book 1

I liked the anime feel of the story and the story was decent. I want to read the second book to see what happens but I don't know if I will. This book could have easily been 100 pages shorter. To many repeats of the same information that not only you know as the reader but the main character too. Repeating the same information over and over. To many times we are standing, sitting or pacing around talking about this same info. There wasn't enough action and instead of repeating info I wanted to know more about the world. I wouldn't recommend but I might at least read book two. Maybe... The Book is mostly aimed towards teens that are probably anime fans which isn't a bad thing. I liked the feel of it but it lacked in the areas know already touched base on.

Wouldn't recommend to anyone out of high school. Or anyone who is not a fan of anime since it has an anime feel to it.

Not my cup of tea

Honestly, the book had an interesting premise and actually made the transformation from human to dragon a bit difficult for the main character and his adjustment. But I can say that this book really isn’t my cup of tea, the dialogue is cheesy a lot of the time, people don’t act particularly realistic, and any romantic relationships that happen happen for too fast. Overall, I think this is a fantasy story that just isn’t my cup of tea, though I know others enjoy it.

Same problem as many of Eric Vall's books. The main character is not believable as a person.

He is also very stupid.

Gets turned into a dragon, then gets into a life or death fight with stone giants, then immediately starts cracking jokes and flirting with these demihumans he just met? Who acts like that??? You literally got turned into a giant lizard and abducted to a fantasy world, c'mon man.

Anyways, if for some reason the main character doesn't make you want to gouge your eyes out, you'll probably enjoy the book as a fun popcorn read.

A nice change!!

I spent the last 2 years reading other cultivation books and normally by now the three mc's love is already taken away or left behind.. it's nice that they are still together.. i dislike that this book is so short lol. I know there is more but I am greedy with good story's.. the love seem was to short lol but that's my own naughty nature. Keep up the good works!!!🤭😋🤫

3 to maybe 3.5 stars, it was okay not the best book of this type but I did enjoy it and it does show potential. I have read a couple of different books by this author now and as I do enjoy them for the most part I find there is always something missed for his books to get into the 4 or 4.5 star range.
I will continue with the series as I do like books like this and I do find them worth reading.

A decent story line, no investment in the characters

This book was a chore to finish. I cared little about the characters, protagonists and antagonists alike. The very graphic sex scene at the end was shocking in there was no real buildup to the event. It was like a whole other author wrote it. There is some potential to the story, but it was executed poorly. It was proofread very well. I found no spelling or grammatical errors.

Not sure how this has so many good to reviews

I really don't understand all the good reviews. A White Knight beta becomes a cliche black dragon in an alternate fantasy world. The dialogue is juvenile and cringe, the bad guys are moustache twirling tropes that answer questions and monologue. The MC is a martial arts expert that sucks at fighting..... It reads like a young teenage boy's self insert fantasy.

I had zero expectations for this, was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. Shockingly less sex than I was expecting, I did have to put it down a few times and read something better. But, I was sold when the red dragon showed up, honestly just reading to see the how the MC convinces her to reintegrate with society, It’s kind of obvious how this character is going to be used...It felt short, but the word count would suggest otherwise, the litrpgness takes up a lot of lines.

The best scene in this is right at the beginning, when the protagonist first turns into a dragon and is trying to get used to his new body, and that's in the free Kindle sample. Beyond that, the plot is dull and devoid of interesting characters, sprinkled with fan-service to try and keep you engaged. There are so many better dragon books out there, this one just isn't worth your time.

I finished the book but doubt I'll continue with the series. I liked the idea as it is similar to a book I'm working on but the sex felt forced in this one and caused the plot to drag for me. Almost didn't finish it. I did enjoy the first third but then it seemed to get tedious. So A+ on the concept, C on execution.

Not written good at all, the story has potential but, it's Flat with no depth . Main character motivation feels artificial 'Airy fairy" Book does not built up has little structure to it. Feels like it is written by a 12 year old with no life experience... Would not recommend...

Interesting book

I really like how the main character is a dragon. It makes the scenarios more interesting with the main friends and allies. The world is a Little different but it does seem to have the demon lord trope and a summoned hero.
