The next in the crew is about to be matched and...she's a little more excited about her circumstances than any of the other women have been. By that, I mean Wiley volunteered to be tested for compatibility and she's ready to give this new relationship she suddenly found herself in her all.

On the other hand, Derrix isn't quite as thrilled. He doesn't want to risk his heart and with the dangerous mission he and the rest of the crew are currently engaged in, having a new mate to potentially lose sounds like a recipe for disaster to him. Yet, he ends up with a human honey of his own and he gets on board the mating train. Eventually.

The good news is there are some solid inroads into finding the artifact the crew was sent to acquire. There's also a little danger, but that's to be expected, right? That said, with one crew member still unmated, I highly doubt their journey is at an end just yet. I mean, they went through the trouble of finding the darn thing, might as well see what sort of damage it can do, right?

💢 What a read absolutely Phenomenal. Definitely a Must Read!

🔹️ Wiley is from Earth, it’s Birthday Lottery Day. She signed up, she wanted to leave earth, match an Alien and have an adventure of lifetime. Little did she know this Alien was so handsome she could breath, wasn’t she lucky.

🔹️Derrix is a Vaznik Warrior, with his crewmen they were already on Gravum IV. There Command has them going below ground to find an Artifact. Just getting ready to go they receive a portal communication someone’s match has come to The Calliope…

☄️ This review is my own opinion, this author is one that I love to read her books.

*UPDATE* So my rating hasn't changed this is still my favorite out of the series. I re-read this because I want to finish the series but I've had such a hard time finishing the last book. I decided I would re read this book and get myself back into the world. We'll see if it works and I finally finish the series.

I loved this book in the series. It just goes to show that when you have a lovable character even their small mistakes can be forgiven.

Wiley was just different, not only did she want to be there so we didn't have the usual hatred for her situation and escape plans; which got on my nerves cause they always happened after the couple had already had sex. She was resourceful and knew when to push for more and when to stay silent and take things in. She was brave but very aware of her limitations. I just really enjoyed reading a female character who knew herself but was also willing to learn and grow.

Derrix was the perfect contrast to Wiley. he was so closed off and for good reason. Although he was tough with Wiley he was also concerned for her and patient with her. I could follow his growing feelings for her because their story was well laid out. I loved that they had this conflict of emotions to resolve before anything physical happened.

The adventure and action was also so much better. There were actual stakes not just problems caused by conflicting feelings. This was a real mission and they had to deal with the real possibility of losing one another. This was definitely my favorite out of the series.

***** Amazing read, 5 stars *****

Written in first person by AVA YORK & STARR HUNTRESS, Derrix is book 4 of the VAZNIK WARRIORS series and switches perspectives between Derrix and Wiley. Based in a time where aliens are known to humans, and there is a lottery that selects females for compatibility testing to the Mahdfel warriors in exchange for protection against the enemy Suhlik.

Wiley's family tended a farm for generations, a rural and boring existence in the middle of nowhere, and she hated the thought of becoming just another pair of hands tending the crops. She craved adventure and a devoted mate. She volunteered for the lottery as soon as she became of age. (I'm assuming her age is 18 or 21.)

Derrix was the purple-skinned weapons specialist of the Calliope, bred to be a Vaznik/Mahdfel warrior (slave to the Suhlik). His parents were murdered by the Suhlik, which left him with a life long wound and concerns regarding a mate. The last book left off with the crew still stuck on a military expedition on Gravum IV, searching for some kind of artifact believed to be buried underground, though they didn't know what it looked like.

In this book, the frustrating mission was more of the same. The group made it underground, headed towards the mysterious artifact. They ran into the less friendly tribe of Qitzal that resided underground. Their chief decided to make sacrifices out of the bunch until a flying snake the women befriended (who they named Orby) made an appearance. The snake turned out to be guarding the cursed artifact that they were searching for. Other than it looking like an egg, they still have no idea what it is. Only that it will somehow end the war against the Suhlik, who also came in search of this artifact in the last book. Along their journey, the couple fell in love, regardless of his reluctance. Derrix did not want a mate and was against Wiley being there. He trained her how to fight, though we never really got to see her in action. Honestly, if it were me, I never would've tolerated Derrix's outlook or behavior, and I feel like Wiley forgave him way too easily. Not to mention her endless patience and effort that she invested into breaking through Derrix's well-constructed defenses. I never would've put forth that much effort. Either you want me, or you don't. And if you don't, I'm moving on. I understand the message that the authors were trying to convey, I just didn't agree with it.

The Vaznik Mahdfel have mating tattoos that glow white when they are in the presence of their one true mate. Derrix's mating tattoos glowed upon meeting Wiley, confirming the lottery test results. The couple finally had intercourse for the first time around the 48% mark (much better than prior books). We were treated to three separate sexual encounters, all of which were filled with aggressive passion. I liked the raunch in this book the best, probably because it lacked the gentle seduction.

This book was much longer than necessary. The adventure to romance ratio was unbalanced and left wanting. Though I will admit, this book's adventure was more appealing. It had a similar vibe to Indiana Jones with traps and mystery in ancient underground tunnels. The perfect treasure scenario for archeologists. I will speed read the final book because I'm already committed at this point, so may as well, even though I don't recommend this series; I'm apparently a glutton for punishment.

An Absolutely Splendid sci-fi/romance .
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of DERRIX . I really enjoyed reading DERRIX . It's a well written and interesting sci-fi/ romance . Lottery day is when a young woman becomes of age ,the Government picks a random date if it's her birthdate she is to report to the site and is genetically tested to see if she is matched to alien match (mate ) . Most girls are terrified .
Wiley is different she volunteered . She always knew she didn't belong stuck on her families farm . She has always wanted to explore the Galaxy . Derrix is not happy to receive his Mate .He tries to fight it but it's just impossible too .
Wiley is ready and raring to go . She's wanting
to help anyway she can . With some fast training the team sets out to find the artifact they were sent to find . Wiley and Derrix find themselves growing closer when they get separated from the team and they all get themselves in trouble and danger . This is action packed tale . I highly recommend reading .

Great addition!!

I love reading about the Mahdfel warriors. The series by this author stars the Vaznik group of Mahfdel and is one of my favorites in the Starr Huntress group.
Wiley was one of the women who volunteered to have her blood tested because she was excited about getting to find a true mate and go on an adventure.
Derrix on the other hand doesn't want a mate. When Wiley showed up he pretty much gave her the cold shoulder except for when he was helping to train her.
The mission to retrieve the artifact was still on and they needed to go deep within the cave systems. What they found there was not what they expected.
Read to find out what adventures that Wiley discovered.

Action/adventure/hot aliens

This book was so chalked full of action and harrowing experiences! We meet Wiley, a heroine who is excited and chomping at the bit to meet new adventures and her alien mate - how refreshing! I love that we are already familiar with the Vaznik/Mahdfel, this planet, the mission, and Derrix from the previous books. Really good love story blooms amidst the chaos, and our little group of warriors becomes a family- complete with pet- at the end. This book could be read as a stand-alone and still be great, but reading the series is always the best! Thanks to Ava York for a great Starr Huntress series about the Mahdfel!

A cool adventure, and an excellent continuation, Wiley definitely leads this story, her sense of adventure and inquisitiveness drive the plot. She's matched with Derrick, which seems weird at first, but does work itself out. I didn't think they'd ever hook up, honestly, so all the scenes leading up to it build the dramatic tension. The quest they go on gets hairy, and if it weren't a romance I could envision them dying a few times over. It's a cool installment, dragged in a few spots, but overall totally binge-able.

Derrix and Wiley

Wiley can't wait to go to spare and see the galaxies. She volunteered to be mated to an alien warrior. Derrix lost his parents to a Sudlik raid at an early age and essentially had no childhood and is afraid to love. Wiley wears him down some and eventually on the mission to get the relic they fall in love. They meet a serpent type creature they named Boy that helps save them from certain death. They retrieve the relic and take it back to command so they are now on leave.

OMG do these books just get better and better! Wiley has volunteered for the lottery and has been matched after being teleported to the planet where the Vaznik Warriors and their mates are on their mission she arrives to a cold welcome form her matched mate. Derrix isn’t sure he wants a mate because of the dangers they face on this mission. But soon finds himself obsessed with her. But they will still face some very dangerous thing. So enjoy another very good book!!

Decent read

But I'm confused why the natives attacked them for trying to remove the artifact I could have sworn in the last book they made an agreement they would remove it for them was that some sort of mistake on the author's part or am I wrong? If I'm right please click this review helpful so I'll know Thanks!

Awesome story!

Derrix and Wiley are a great couple and team. Derrix is a little slow and needs some encouragement but suddenly realizes that he not only wants to protect her but they are meant to be together.

I honestly thought he was a dick in the beginning when they met. Kiddos for her to take what he gave her and shoved it back in his face. I was glad when someone called him on his shit, but even then it was still really good.

Favorite!!!!

This one by far is my favorite. I can’t really pinpoint why but it had everything! And I really loved how the tables were turned and Wiley was the one who wanted to be in the bond and Derrix was the one with cold feet. So yeah. Great 👍
