Bardzo ciekawy temat, ale książce zabrakło dobrej redakcji, która wyrzuciłaby 1/3 tekstu i lepiej go ułożyła. Momentami nuży i się powtarza, można było zrobić to lepiej!
I would like to say something positive about this book, but I’m afraid it may be difficult. In my opinion, the book was not properly executed, but the editing process seems to have been skipped, resulting in a clunky read that could easily have been cut in half. I think so because the authors repeatedly asked the same questions to the same interviewees, who often gave similar answers. After a few interviews, I completely lost the desire to finish the book. For about 200 pages, I waited for the promised chapter about counter-terrorism, which appeared only about 80 to 90 pages before the end. This means the first 300 pages could have been structured differently. There are indeed many interesting details in the book. It shows that people working in this field lead a specific lifestyle and have particular approaches to life and tasks. However, I had to read through nearly 200 pages before the promise on the back cover was somewhat fulfilled. I feel that the promise implied there would be a lot of action and substance, but instead, we get stories of ordinary people who worked or are working in the counter-terrorism area and related fields. Most of the stories concern the past mainly the 1990s and early 2000s. When younger people were interviewed, they said little about the present, which makes sense since they deal with the security of Polish citizens and professional secrecy is important to them. However, the selection of interviewees and topics left me knowing no more than before reading, and the book caused a reading slump for me, something I especially dislike after books in a reportage format.
