Lisa Jackson is the number-one New York Times bestselling author of over ninety-five novels, including the Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya Series, the Pescoli and Alvarez Series, the Savannah series, and numerous stand alone novels. She also is the co-author of One Last Breath, Last Girl Standing, and the Colony Series, written with her sister and bestselling author Nancy Bush, as well as the collaborative novels Sinister and Ominous, written with Nancy Bush and Rosalind Noonan. There are over thirty million copies of her novels in print and her writing has been translated into twenty languages.

Before she became a nationally bestselling author, she was a mother struggling to keep food on the table by writing novels, hoping against hope that someone would pay her for them. Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.

With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.

I received an advance copy of this book from net galley and the publisher in return for an honest review. Release date for this book is 26 May 2020

I don’t know if it’s just me or not but lately it’s been very difficult to get into mystery stories and this one was no exception. I honestly could not get into the spot at all. I found the characters dry and dull and the story line to be subpar at best. This is definitely not a book that I would recommend which is unfortunate because I normally like Lisa Jackson books.

Delta finds her philandering husband lying in a pool of blood and then she slips and falls on the knife, then picks it up not thinking of of the consequences but only of getting help for her husband. As the police question her, three of her high school friends are in the hospital waiting room wanting answers because when they were all in high school together, all of them were in involved with Delta's husband in some way. Why are Delta's friends at the hospital now especially when Delta hasn't had much if any contact with her old friends in years since their last class reunion. Detectives have a long and time consuming job ahead of them because they will have to go back in time to find out who really stabbed the dying man or maybe it was Delta and she is very good at playing the long suffering wife. There will be many potential suspects and twisting turns before you read the final chapter.I

I thought that book wouldn't be very good due to many of the substandard reviews but I was pleasantly surprised and I did enjoy the story after a slow start. Fifty percent into reading the story went fast with lots of fun twists and turns that were unexpected. I wouldn't consider this a thriller but it turned out to be a good mystery. Most of the characters were shallow and unlikable and reminded me of some of the afternoon soap operas that used to be on television. If a reader enjoyed the old soaps, I think they would find this book very appealing. A great majority of the book plays out the last year in high school but that storyline is essential to everything that will take place in the present time. All in all it was a good book not a great one but it ended up being very entertaining.

I want to thank the publisher "Kensington Books" and Netgalley for the.opportunity to read this ARC and any thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have given this book a rating of 3 1/2 Twisty 🌟🌟🌟✴ Stars!!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

WOW!!

This story had me on edge from beginning to the very end of the story. Just when you think you know "whodunnit", a new twist is revealed and it keeps you hanging on to the storyline.

The First Five is the name of the most popular girl clique from high school, i.e., Amanda, Bailey, Carmen, Delta and Zora. They are thick as thieves and rule the school. Fast forward 15 years and there is a series of deaths with suspicious circumstances. These characters were hatable in the beginning, but as their own truths are exposed, you realize how vulnerable and sad they really are. Who is trustworthy and who is still scheming?

This book had an undercurrent of suspense throughout that kept you engaged and wanting more. I look forward to more from these authors.

I won this book and I usually enjoy Lisa Jackson books. This one started off a little slow, with my thinking it was like a YA novel, since the beginning of the book, all the girls involved were in high school and this went on for about half the book, later when they became adults and went to their 10 year reunion, I thought the book got better, and of course, then the crimes were solved. Very good read but a little slow in the beginning.
This was a group of five high school girls who ruled the school and they began to get killed one at a time. By the end of the book there was only one left from the group.

This book was bad, not a likeable person in it. Delta marries her high school sweetheart despite the fact that he cheats on her non-stop. It was really just about a group of people that needed to grow up and let high school go.

There are 5 girls who rule the school. There are several young, hot guys. One is particular is Tanner. Gorgeous he is ... and he knows it. Delta is supposedly his girlfriend, but Tanner does like the ladies .. and doesn't understand why Delta would be upset. Among the girls there is a rule .. no stealing each other's boyfriends. Unfortunately not all the girls follow the rules.

And then one of the girls is eliminated. Accident ... murder... suicide?

And then there were four.

Five year high school reunion .... everyone is a bit older, but are they any wiser? One of the girls who has now become a cop lets one of the 'hot' boys take her for a ride in the woods. The next morning they are found ... victims of a murder/suicide?

And then there were three.

Ten years later, Tanner is stabbed multiple times. His wife, Delta, is the prime suspect. There are three girls still standing who still have feelings for Tanner .... did one of them try to kill the man of their dreams? Do mean girls remain mean through adulthood?

The story is told from the viewpoint of multiple people. Back and forth from high school to the present, from one person to another. There are lies and secrets that have been held for years ... there's also resentments and jealousies that persist. Who lies and who doesn't?

Many thanks to the authors / Kensington Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction of suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

What possessed me to read this book? Not one character, and there was a cast of thousands, was likable. The stereotypical high school jocks, “elite” girls and others were all there as the story jumped from current to past to present again to past before past...with the only consistency being that none of the characters matured and were as annoying in the last chapters as in the first. As a side note the editing was lacking...reunion at country club on one page and at a hotel a couple pages later; timing of events inconsistent in the narrative in multiple places. Never read this duo before and not sure I’ll try again.

Coming from a longtime Lisa Jackson/Nancy Bush fan, this was one of my least favorite of their novels. There was far too much high school/soap opera-y drama and crass language that you don’t usually get with their books. I didn’t guess the killer, but only because it was a weak connection that didn’t really add up. Furthermore, I didn’t buy the “romance” and felt like everything wrapped up a little too neatly.

OMG wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is one of the best thrillers I have read all year and I've read ALOT!!!!!!!!!!! This is a total standalone book and trust me....... you will NOT guess the who did it in this story of corrupt group of people!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked and like "WTF??????!!!!!!" when it got revealed. This is a story of a group of teenagers first.....the" first fives" and the boys that they hung around with. These kids are tight while they're teens but grow apart as they all become adults but when members start dying shit gets real!!!!!!!! Are these deaths a coincidence or is someone slowly murdering the members of this group??? Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington/Zebra Publishing

4.5 Stars

I noticed that a lot of reviewers of this book are giving it a bad star rating. I think I know why. They apparently didn’t read the story all the way till the end.

This book is broken up in three distinct sections. Section one features the time when they were in high school. And most significantly, the party they had near the river that caused the death of their friend, Carmen.

This section was not my favorite part of the book. I wish the authors had made certain scenes more like a flashback instead of a huge hunk of the book. The writing voice of this section was very young adult and it did give me a headache while reading it. It was kinda repetitive and annoying. I mean, isn’t that how we all were back then?

Then we jumped for a hot minute to the present day. Then before we could acclimate, we jumped to their ten year class reunion which was five years earlier. This sort of confused me but I understand why the authors did it. The Reunion section was much shorter than the high school section and we are basically learning about who is who and who they are at that point in their lives. But we also get another murder in this section, the police chief’s daughter who is also on the force, plus another man.

Then we jump back to present day. Thank goodness. I think this book would have been fine if they had started at the ten year reunion, flashed back to their youth and then hashed it all out in present time. Having all that high school drama in the front of the book is just asking for people to DNF the book. I did get a little tired of it. I mean, come on, there is like a hundred and one people playing a part here and I needed a score card to keep up with everyone. Too many characters for my taste. But when I finally got to the more modern sections, I was breathing a sigh of relief. It was more what I would expect from Jackson and Bush.

This book definitely has its issues but it turned out really well. Great mystery whodunit plot line. I would totally read another book with Detective Chris in it.

If you are looking for a good mystery/thriller, definitely check this one out.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

3.5 stars. Fifteen years earlier, a group of teen girls formed a clique called the Five Firsts -- Amanda, Bailey, Carmen, Delta, and Zora with Ellie wanting to be a part of the group. One of them drowned at the end of their senior year and maybe that wasn't an accident.

At their 10 year reunion, another one of the group dies. The deaths continue in current time. Way too much of a coincidence.

The first third of the book describes teen girls in hormonal lust for a guy, Tanner. I found it difficult to keep the teens straight. They all got on my nerves. I didn't like the classmates as teens and not much better as adults. My favorite character was classmate McCabe who became a police officer. The last third of the book saved it for me. I did not know who the killer was until the end and I prefer books that way.

I found this mostly agonizing. I hate giving up on a book, but I probably should have in this case. The story is set around high school girls, their cliques, and a tragedy. Fast forward 15 years and there is little character development. The pettiness and immaturity is still present. I would like to give the human race more credit. Please tell me most people don't hang on to their high school years. I know of the angst, but don't most folks work through it? I listened to this on a CD and I do think the narrator did an excellent job with the various voices/characters. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

Last Girl Standing is a thriller mystery. One night changes everything for a set of high school senior girls and their cohorts. One death leads to several more with unanswered questions. Fast forward fifteen years and reckoning has arrived. As more bodies pile up, Delta, Ellie, and McRae race to find the answers. It's a twisty, fast paced read with many surprises. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the early copy.

Dnf'd at 52%. Jeez, what a bunch of detestable characters. I have no idea who's the good guy and the authors spent waaaaay too much time on the loathsome man, who btw is also the murder victim. I'm not the least bit interested in finding out who killed him...

Also, all the characters are such unoriginal caricatures, the evil lawyer, the sleeping-her-way-to-the-top tv weather girl, the obsessed cop, the staying-with-her-cheating-husband-because-baby unhappy wife. Ugh, hard pass on all of them.

Standalone romantic suspense. An elite clique of girls known as the Five Firsts is marked by a tragedy that continues to haunt them decades later. First there were five, then they were four. Who will be killed next? A very intense suspenseful read. Kept me interested until the very end. Great writing from Lisa Jackson and her sister, Nancy Bush! Recommended for those who love romantic suspense.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book

there are a confusing amount of people but then again we are based at an academy and its the final year before they graduate

and before they leave one of their group will be dead....

once i got my head around the array of characters i started to get to grips with the storyline...and boy were there some characters that i didnt like...which is always good....

so as the years go by and our main group have class reunions and budding gripes still hold true...another murder occurs but its ruled as a suicide....

but what grips you is the apparent attack on tanner the golden boy the one who was most to succeed...who get stabbed numerous times and his wife delta who was in the clique is suspected...

not a bad storyline once you get your head around all the characters and was surprised who it was...would read another book by these two authors

I don’t know where to start with this book. If you’re a fan of high school drama and mess well this book is for you!

First off, there were too many characters in this book. Off the top of my head I remember 10 people (and that’s not all of them!)

It was so much hatred, fake friends, secrets, and competition in this book. It was extremely messy for me. I only wanted to know who was behind all of this mess, and when I found out I rolled my eyes.

and some stuff didn’t make sense to me. People actually knew what was going on, but decided to keep their mouth shut. This isn’t a riddle. If you know something then say something.

Read it if you want.

Last Girl Standing grips you immediately. It opens with the stabbing of a popular young doctor and we see him struggling for life in the Intensive Care Unit surrounded by three ex-lovers, who are all his former class mates, and all “best friends” of his sweetheart wife.

Should be a juicy, gripping mystery, right? Ummm...no. Long on exposition, and told from the multiple POV of its annoying cast, we quickly learn that these shallow, self-serving, disloyal snobs were obsessed with popularity, superficial appearances, and money status in high school. And they never really grew up or became better people. Fifteen years later, they remain as distasteful as ever. Oh, how difficult it can be to escape the wounds of childhood! A challenge made more difficult by the tragic events of their graduation BBQ party haunting the class of West Knoll School.

I was eager to know what “really” happened at that high school graduation party, something so malicious that classmates start dying under suspect circumstances. A very juicy mystery indeed. The stakes end up being highest fifteen years later for the young wife of the stabbed doctor, as she predictably becomes the prime suspect. If she didn’t try to murder her husband, then who did?

The story feels really, really long. Part of the reason is the nastiness of the primary characters. The “ick” factor may be entirely intentional and designed to manipulate our emotional responses to these people. But it’s effect leaves a bad taste even after the mystery comes to its satisfying conclusion.

(My thanks to Kensington for the ARC via NetGalley.)

This was an "okay" read. Did it have a good storyline? Somewhat. Someone is killing off people, and the first possible death was almost 15 years ago. All of a sudden, the past is racing to catch up with the present.
"The First Five" as a group of high school girls call themselves, have been "friends" since their school days. In HS there are some issues between 2 of the group. One girl is on the make of another group members boyfriend. A tear has been created in this close knit group. At the center of their attention is the young man named Tanner. He is not an innocent in this riff by any means.
As the years go by, and each surviving group member has started living their adult lives, the past surfaces again. After the 10 year HS reunion, things start to unravel.
The reader follows as new issues crop up and is left to wonder who will be next and who is at the bottom of all this.
Guess you will have to read for yourself to see who is The Last Girl Standing.

There is definitely a difference in the writing of two sisters credited with this novel. One is slower pace detail oriented while the other has twists that race to the finish which made rating this difficult.

A high school graduation BBQ sets off a series of deaths over the next fifteen years. Are they accidents or murder?

There are a lot of characters to keep track of and bouncing between past and present made this story bog down in places - though that might be a false impression as I unexpectedly had a lot going on while reading this book.

The ending was intense and put everything together.

Another hit by sisters Lisa Jackson & Nancy Bush.

A fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing from beginning to end.

What an amazing puzzle this book is and no one knows who is what but the author leads you in different ways so that you think you might just get it and bam! Another direction. Brilliant characters, a maze so suspenseful you'll wonder if there'll be anyone left alive by the end. With one shock after another I felt like Carmen by the end on the book.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great read

Excellent! excellent! this was a wonderful read! Definitely not disappointed with this book! Lisa Jackson, and Nancy Bush have come to give us a level of writing that we expect to not be disappointed! Once again, they do not disappoint! The first five. It all starts with the first five. Once we get to know these five young ladies, then we get to know them as five women. Everything that happens revolves around, the first five! The last one standing, will not be who you expect it to be. There are definite major twists along the way!

this book just wasn't good. the ending made no sense. the murderer was such a twist that it just made no damn sense whatsoever. I appreciate a good twist, but, it needs to make sense, and this one did not.

spoilers: A former teacher got caught (by another student) giving an 18 year old student a blow job 15 years ago so she goes on to murder like 10+ people. what?? shes worried giving an adult student a blowie 15 years ago will ruin her career, but not that murdering a bunch of people will???

why did i spend 400 pages focuses on characters that had nothing to do with the actual murders when it sounds like it woukd have been real interesting to have ANY KIND of glimpse of the murderers perspective, mindset, etc??

I just, no, no, don't read this book.

There was a lot going on with this book. It’s a lot of secrets, lies, hateful fake friends, and drama. The obsession around Tanner with literally every girl mentioned in the book was a little weird for me. Definitely didn’t see the end coming, but now knowing is even more sickening.

After a rather slow start, I found this to be an enjoyable mystery. As is typical of the sisters Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush, this mystery had plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. My only complaint was the beginning set in the high school years, I thought that could have been done more as flashbacks rather than spending so much of the story in the past.
