After the mysterious death of her boyfriend, Abby Cox swore off men. She's held true to that promise for the past eight years, but then, Nik happened. A stranger in the right place, at the right time, he not only rescues Abby from a destructive tornado, but also stokes her long-buried desires. For Nik's safety, she can never act on those feelings. Pieces of a peculiar puzzle start falling into place, throwing Abby's entire life into an upheaval, thrusting her into a world she never knew existed. Nik is a Storm Thief, and what's more, she is a Sky Sorcerer. This explains her ability to alter the weather, and even the strange lattice work of scars that tattoo her skin. With the God of the Underworld wanting her dead, Abby must battle for her life.
I work full-time as a zoo curator, so when I'm not running a zoo, I'm trying to tame the one I live in! I have two kids, and a husband who sometimes acts their age. I can usually be found jamming to Elvis Presley tunes, or diligently chipping away at my never-ending 'to be read' pile. I tend to gravitate toward anything paranormal. I love creatures who fly and characters who sprout fur or fangs. Sprinkle some romance and magic into the mix, and I'm a happy girl!
'Am I capable of building something that can withstand the mighty storm that is Nik?'
'Struck' has a unique storyline with lots of interesting interwoven stories, full of characters that are both relatable and otherworldly.
'Your body is mine for the taking. You just don't know it yet.'
The romance is one that you become immersed within so much so that I sadly found myself wishing for more. I craved additional swoon worthy moments between the pair so I could fall just as in love... But perhaps, that is just me being greedy!
'To protect is to put someone's else's life above all else. That to me, is love.'
The author presents a new paranormal romance world unlike that of any I have read before. It was interesting to see an elemental like theme with that of mythology.
'Rainbows only exist because of the storm. They are purely at their mercy. Indulging the whims of the storms, they remain submissive.'
I find myself coming back to the pair who embrace at the centre of the novel. One who is entrapped by the dark poison of their sire and the other a spark of light that can expel the gloom. They both posses powers that compliment each other and in the words of our leading woman, Abby: 'I will continue to create the madness, and Nik will continue to be the beauty that comes after the storm'
I would recommend this book to lovers of the paranormal romance genre as it was an enjoyable and interesting read. Despite it leaving me feeling like I have been slightly deprived of some of the pair's courtship I feel that that is part of its charm - you are left wanting but not dissatisfied.

It took me a long time to get into this story. There was a lot of story in the beginning and I thought that it would get better. If I can’t get into the book in the beginning I usually won’t finish. I persevered through the beginning and found the heart of the story was much better than I expected.
Abby was pretty much a basket case with the mysterious death of her boyfriend and later with the death of her best friend’s husband who was an abuser and drunk. She didn’t know what to think about her actions but she stayed away from dating. Her cousin tries to fix her up on a date and she goes along with it only to find out blank has paid the guy to try and kiss her. She is furious with Mo, but eventually forgives him because he is only looking out for her.
When her emotions start to turn wild, she notices the weather turns crazy and a tornado appears and it seems like it is following her. Her hero, Nik appears and helps keep the tornado calm and makes sure she is safe.
Abby has many questions to ask Nik but he isn’t anywhere around. She can feel and smell him in her back yard and wonders if he is stalking her. When Nik appears again to her, Abby’s whole body thrums with desire. She knows she wants him but she can’t kiss him because she believes her kiss is deadly.
Nik has many answers for Abby and tries to explain them to her. She doesn’t believe him at first but after a while discovers he knows what he is talking about.
She isn’t ready to take the chance to love Nik and asks him to go away and he does. She finds out that his father is no other than the king of the underworld and she has to go there to find Nik. She has to apology and let him know how she feels. His father has another idea; he wants to keep Abby away from Nik. This will keep Nik under his control.
I enjoyed this story once I got into the story. I felt that there was too much at the beginning that had me wondering if the story was going to go anywhere. I don’t think as much was needed at the beginning. I enjoyed the interaction between Abby and her cousin Mo. They really cared about each other even though they got on each other’s nerves constantly. I also like the idea of soulmates. Abby and Nik both deserve to be happy.
Abby Cox, a librarian, swore off men after the strange death of her boyfriend, till one fateful night. That night she lives through near-death misses, one of them involving a tornado, and is rescued by a man with stunning blue eyes. The man turns out to be named Nick, and along with an electric touch that sparks cravings, she has long held dormant, he has strange news to tell her. He is not human and neither is she. Nick, a storm thief, had his life forever changed the night he came upon Abby and rescued her. Noticing she is a storm sorcerer, he offers to help her with her powers. The electric touch they felt at first contact is a sign they are Polar Mates, fated to be the balance of each other. It explains the intense desire they start to feel, but an interrupted kiss and Nick misconstruing the reason why causes them both anguish when he leaves. Being a storm sorcerer explains Abby’s ability to alter the weather and the reasoning behind her tracery of scars. Since her emotions are linked to the weather, her heartbreak translates into a steady rain, which gains the notice of the god of the Underworld, who wants her dead. She is forced to become a quick study, using what Nick taught her to harness her powers to fight for her life and ultimately to fight for his heart and her chance at love. The world and mythology the author created was refreshingly imaginative, but at times I felt that I might be missing something. Word usage to describe characters and actions were highly expressive, but bordered on being too much at times. Abby easily accepted being introduced to the paranormal world, but her reactions for other events had either too much emotion or not enough. Despite this I relished reading this book and would suggest it to someone looking for a quick and easy read that offers something different from other paranormal offerings.
I love JM Davis’s work! She sprinkles in a bit of paranormal but in such a way, it makes you think that maybe this could be true!
Struck is a truly unique story with paranormal and romance beautifully entwined throughout. The characters were brought to life through their backstories, thoughts and conversations. They were all very different and brought out different emotions from me as I read.
This story was heart pounding, funny, sweet, touching, nerve-wracking, and heartbreaking all mixed together. It is fantastic! I have a list of authors that I will read every book they write without even finding out what it is about. JM is one of those authors and has never let me down. I highly recommend this book and every other book by JM Davis!

Really great. Abby believes she is destined to be alone due to her kiss of death. Nik comes along, moody and demanding. Such a great story about love, acceptance, terrible experiences and true friendship. I cant give this book enough praise. Loved loved loved it.
