Last Dance

This book left me gasping, like how do I review that!
It is definitely not for the weak of stomach!
But there is no denying James has climbed into the mind of a psycho and explored and depicted it perfectly.
This book is so well written you could stop reading once you started you had to find out what was going to happen next.
Would love to see James write a prelude to this book!

I read this short novella within Stealing Virtue: A Dark Anthology, and oh my, I am glad it was included!

There was a time when I just didn’t care for, or wasn’t able to rate shorts & novellas highly because I didn’t really enjoy them, or feel they were comparable to novels. Later, I realized, they are not supposed to be compared. There is a place for shorts and novellas, and they should be rewarded as such. Not everyone likes them, and that’s ok. I didn’t for a long time.

Now, I actually love them. Having said that, I’ve found a system that works, for me. I’ve discovered in the past year, as opposed to the nine or so before, I *really* enjoy a good short story in between longer, or super heavy erotic or dark books. They are great when you have a 30 minute wait for an appointment, just don’t have the time or mental capacity to jump into another novel, or when you have a huge book hangover.

🌟5 ‘Tits in a Jar’ Stars 🌟 for “Last Dance”

A sinister murderer with a penchant for keeping random body parts in jars as trophies, has taught his seven sons the trade he so loves. Killing. Killing in the most horrific and unique ways. Dubbed by the police and in the press as the “The Smartest Monster on the Planet”, this just feeds his sick ego into wanting one final “dance” with a certain man . In his crosshairs is a retiring cop that’s been close on his heels, Sheriff Greenacre , that he lovingly refers to as “Cop Piggy”. What happens when the he catches up with the Sheriff and his family, who think they are headed to Disneyland?... A serious mindfuck if there ever was one!

Unapologetically sinister and highly entertaining to those that crave the darkest of the dark.

The Ultimate Mind F@&k

You want it dark and depraved? Well this one is darker then the depths of a black hole. I knew James Crow was a brilliant author, but he is a wicked and depraved evil genius. Pops will hold a special place in heart as the most vile and evil character ever dreamed up. This story starts off like a dark mystery and gets darker and crazier as you go on. Never would I have ever imagined such a dark and depraved story. I was left aghast and speechless, but thoroughly entertained. Brilliantly written Mr.Crow just BRILLIANT! 5 very dark and depraved stars.

Totally twisted

It's gory and basically I would call it a horror. The man and his kids are all sick in the head to do what they did to the cop and his family.

There's dark and then there is pitch black and this short story is the latter one. I'm officially going to hell for enjoying this book much more than a human being should, but hey what the hell. It is depraved reading at it's best and honestly I was hoping for more, yep I could have gone on with this sicko story all night; it was right up my street and in my opinion. this is James at his very best.

Half way through I was thinking that this would make the perfect horror film, it had all the right components; scary unthinkable things you only dream about in nightmares, with warped crazy arse characters and more gore than your stomach can handle. This is a dark lovers deepest darkest wish, all wrapped up in a big black box ready to be served on a platter but only if you are strong enough to handle it. This is NOT for the fainthearted, be warned !!!

Another brilliant short story from James Crow, he never ceases to amaze and shock me. Long may he reign !!!

I received it with great joy! Perfectly gruesome -this is deliciously twisted, that fed my dark heart! And, I’m now in torment with myself, questioning my own sanity because I found it a thrilling, gripping read that I didn’t want to end.

Just when you think our darling twisted James couldn't get any darker...
He brings us Pops...
This is a brutally twisted mind fu#k , literally.
Only an evil genius could come up with the storyline in this latest creation of our demented twisted leader.
Well done Sir.

When two dark authors you adore says this book blew their minds you stop everything and go read it. I’ve read James Crow before and knew he pushed limits but THIS one was something else.

So you know how you see a plane crash, multi-car pile up, or train wreck and absolutely cannot look away from the scene in front of you? Yup. That’s what this book felt like. Even when I was queasy and questions my reading choices I was captivated by the depravity in front of me. I needed to know what ‘Pops’ was going to do next. I needed to see how his sons reacted. I simply needed to know!

And now that I do, I never want to see the term ‘mindfk’ again. And since I’m such a sucker for back stories I’m definitely going onto ‘Pops’ next story…wish me luck.

There's sick, twisted, dark, and then there's this! I'm reviewing for The Last Dance by James Crow and I'm left speechless. Never would I have imagined that James could get darker than Hope, but, he did not disappoint. Think of the most hideous thing you've ever read...think of the most hideous movie you've ever watched...I guarantee it doesn't compare. I could not stop reading this no matter how unbelievably sick this is. I was totally engrossed in this read and needed to know what happened. A family of four...perfect, happy, with so much love for one another is the pawn in a sick fuck's game of torturous, sadistic play. Unfeeling, uncaring, and no heart. This is why I can call this brilliant! I've read James Crow's work several times, so I know that his writing is unorthodox and like nothing I've ever read. It takes a genius to be an Author and write stories of love and then write stories that will make your stomach turn. I know this is perplexing, but, in all of it's depravity, this story is solid, well written, and addictive. What do you do when you wake up in unfamiliar surroundings, your family is nowhere to be seen, and there's nothing you can do? What do you do when you're forced to play a game that makes you lose the contents of your stomach? What do you do when no matter how much you cooperate, you know the outcome will be a literal mind fuck? How can I say I loved something like this? Well....read it and thank me later! A 5 Star Short Read!

No words. No words.

Last dance is one of those books that you question what made you want to read it in the first place but you also can't put it down.

Evil has a name and his seven equally depraved sons call him "Pops". Merciless and methodical, he is the ringleader of this psychotic band of miscreants that are quite literally the monsters that go bump in the night. If you are alone on the highway and hear a truck approaching you are already as good as dead.

But what happens if your the towns police chief that pushes a little too hard and asks too many questions? Your fate and the fate of the ones you hold dear will already be sealed with the most Savage punishment of them all.

How far would someone go for revenge? How dark does their soul have to be violently torture and humiliate their prey and get off on their pain and suffering?

Twisted, disturbing, and sadistic; it's a thing that nightmares are made of and will haunt your dreams. Intense and gruesome, Crow drags you into his wicked game of manipulation until the point that you have to play leaving you thoroughly mind fuxked!

Wow, just wow , where do I start. This was certainly dark, like pitch black, but I so loved it . We meet Pops and his screwed up sons in this wonderfully gut twisting story, and find out the little games they like to play. I found myself not really believing what I was reading but not able to put it down either. This is a masterpiece in dark writing and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Five devilishly, delightful dark stars.

I don't know how Mr. Crow can conjure this stuff up. I have to say this is probably his most disturbing book yet. And yes, I absolutely loved it. I did cringe alot but couldn't put it down. If you are into some gore, definitely buy this book!

Pops bills himself as “The Smartest Monster on the Planet”, with his specimen jars filled with human body parts so that he and his seven demented sons could relish in these souvenirs. But Police Chief Gregory Greenacre knows of Pops’ deviant activities and wants to bring him and his corrupted sons to justice and Pops can’t have that. So he devises a plan and calls it “The Ultimate Mind F*ck” and f*cking the mind it does.

I could barely get through this book, but I ‘bore’ through hoping. Talk about perversion, immorality, humiliation—it is all in this book. The author’s analogies and wordplay are clever and twisted. The writing so compelling that the words jump out at the reader and we see scenes that are mortifying and demeaning. There is no love in these scenes of kink and sex done by a warped and bizarre mind. And the description of bodily fluids is almost too much to glaze over. What happens to Chief Greenacre and his family is beyond what a normal person would consider punishing someone.

There are hundreds of horrific ways to taunt and torture your enemy, but “Last Dance” is dark and disturbing. It is well-written telling us how hate can lead to degradation. If you expect the good guys to win, you are wrong. In the end, Pops is thinking of a Super “Ultimate Mind F*ck”. Oh, God! I hope that is not a lead-in to another book. I don’t think my sympathetic heart can take it!

So this was a different read for me. I'm almost ashamed to say that I loved it. When the perfect plan for revenge comes all together perfectly... you end up with this!

I kinda... but not really... feel bad for rooting for the villain in this story. But he was just so wickedly dark and twisted that I couldn't help it. I love a truly good villain in a story and this guy was that in spades! I'm not sure I have read a more twisted villain before.

This story is dark and depraved. Its not for everybody. If you like things dark and depraved with horror mixed in.. Give it a try because this will be right up your alley. If evil guys doing evil things gets your little black heart pumping.. give it a try.. you won't regret it!

Loved it but not for the faint of heart!

What did I just read? Last Dance took me down a dark path of depravity with graphic scenes that will live rent free in my mind for a very long time. For such a short novella, it packed all the punch and gore of a dark horror movie as Pops and his sons exacted revenge against the police chief. Their tactics are beyond demented, torturous, and not meant for squeamish readers. I loved every uncomfortable minute of it but please, if you have any triggers at all, you might want to reconsider this one.

Whoa!!

Definitely not for the weak!! This book takes you inside the mind of a psychopath and what a h3ll of a ride it was! Pops is dubbed by the police and “chief piggy” as “the smartest monster on the planet”. This leaves him craving one Last Dance with the chief. He has taught his sons his techniques and together they give chief piggy the ultimate mindf*ck!!

Short novella perfect for spooky season! It was wild!!
