Disclaimer: I received this book as part of GoodReads' First Reads program.

The Missing Son is a story about a fisherman and his family who find an alien egg for some reason in the ocean, take it home, figure out what it likes to eat and raise it to be part of their family, hiding its existence from everyone else in the area. This book seems to aimed at an elementary school aged demographic, which is definitely not me. It is poorly written, uses terrible grammar and consistently uses the wrong words. For example, the author constantly uses the word "smirk" when he means "smile", apparently not having bothered to consult a dictionary to find out what kind of smile a smirk is. In addition, the story is not even finished, but leaves you hanging with a "to be continued" ending. I usually enjoy reading the books I get from GoodReads, but this one was excruciatingly difficult to finish. I cannot recommend it.
