Kate Stempel knows firsthand the importance of caring for others, having volunteered with Citymeals on Wheels, delivering food to homebound elderly and actively volunteering at local animal shelters. Through those experiences, she learned that “nourishment” is not always about food, but also about companionship.

Growing up in the suburbs of New York, Kate wrote her first story (Just Being Emily) at the age of nine, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. She graduated from University of New Hampshire and lived in New York City for many years working in the online advertising sales world before settling down with her husband to raise their family.

Kate has always loved to write and has written many short stories for herself and her kids. She was inspired to write Sprinkles by witnessing many unlikely friendships between elderly and young children. A bond can be formed spanning generations, and shared joy can sometimes be a reason a person finds hope and purpose in everyday life. She based the character of Sky on her daughter, and previewed early drafts of Sprinkles to her children. After an enthusiastic response, Kate thought it was time to share the story of Sprinkles for all to read.

Kate lives in New York with her husband, two children, and two Siberian huskies, Ridley and Bella Blue. She graduated from the Institute for Integrated Nutrition and is an Integrated Health Coach, a soccer coach for both of her kids, and an avid athlete.

This book combined three of my favorite things: dogs, plants, and baking! It was easy to follow (for myself and the kids I babysit), and it was a cute story about how to enjoy even the smallest sprinkles in life.
