She needed the story. She didn’t expect to run for her life in a world where vampires and werewolves are real...

The homeless are going missing, and reporter Max Harvey can just smell the story. None of her usual contacts will talk to her. They’re scared, which sets her reportery senses tingling. Deciding to go undercover is a stroke of genius...

Until she’s snatched with the others and thrown into a world she never expected. A world of government conspiracies and genetic experiments where supernatural creatures exist and the real monsters are the humans trying to kill her.

In a desperate race through the forest, she must trust a dangerous man who is more than he seems. A broken hero who isn’t strictly human but who makes her heart sing like no other...

No one walks away from the Project. They run...

Major Dean Steele didn’t run quick enough and now he’s in a cage. Again. Only instead of expecting him to fight and kill like the monster they turned him into, now they expect him to run and die in a hunt with the odds stacked against him. But there’s one thing they don’t know... the beautiful little human woman they’ve put him with is his mate. And that changes everything.

In a hunt with everything on the line, there’s no monster more dangerous than a man fighting for redemption... and love.

Oh I love these genetically generated monsters and their rebellion against the PROJECT. They are elemental in their actions and empathic in their reactions, somehow always at the end of the scale of freezing cold and boiling hot.

Great storytelling, eloquent, rousing and so sensitively written - entertainment, suspense, action, all top!

I've been curious about Steel since book 2 and he didn't disappoint. Nevertheless I miss a sign of life from Team Alpha 3 and since book 1 I want to know if there is a silver lining for Sanders.

Will our good monsters be able to find each other, to pull together and organize themselves, combine information and skills and successfully complete the project REBELLION in several frightening actions/books?

I sincerely hope that the muse kisses the author incessantly, so that the waiting time never reaches old lengths again. 😊

A let down from the previous three gripping reads.
Loved Dean, thought Max was an idiot.
As much as I was thrilled to get a next book in this series, I am so disappointed.
Though I loved having another book about these tortured, special ops soldiers changed by The Project and though I enjoyed reading it, I feel as if I am done.
After three greatly impressive and useful heroines in the last three books, we now get Max, the idiot heroine.
I cannot say enough negatives about her stupidity and actions. The only good thing she did was attack Landon.
Even the wonderful Dean as the hero did not make me feel like I enjoyed this. I would have preferred Dean to end up mated to the alpha female Lycan he set loose.
Especially when Max, the heroine, a supposedly tough and smart reporter, does the obligatory TSTL act. Had she not understood they were being hunted. Did she not understand when Dean said, TRUST NO ONE. Max doesn’t even apologise for not listening and being captured.
Jesus, why do authors make women so stupid, they don’t deserve to live. Do THEY want to read about idiots?
The actual storyline was just too depressing. Might be my mood but more than likely I am tired of this plotline. Scientists playing god, depraved humans going on hunts to rape, kill and prove themselves to be real men. Of course, they are only brave with a gun in their hands. Even worse in this book, they have sniper backup so they are not even really big brave hunters, but one must keep the big money suppliers protected.
There are enough sickos on the news in real life, that I don’t want to read about them too.
The amount of pain, death and pure inhumanity shown by humans and all for the almighty dollar, just made me feel sick.
I was saddened by the amount of death in this book. I don’t need or want to feel that when reading.
Wrapped up very quickly with a HEA that was so contrived and a reporter who doesn’t report the truth.
These books were great, interesting and a totally different directionally new material plot-line wise when they started out 8 years ago. The last book was 6 years ago and unfortunately this theme has now been done to death by too many other authors.
If Ms Carter had kept the series going instead of having such a long gap, I would still be a huge fan. It could be ages until the next book too.
This is my honest review of this book.

Man or monster

I think this might be my favorite book of the series so far. I love how the struggle is real for these two characters. The author puts them in an impossible situation and they manage to find their perfect HEA in the midst of it all. The author really kept me biting my nails throughout the entire story and I was never so happy to read the epilogue of a book. This book was just an amazing experience from beginning to end. I can’t wait to read where the author takes this series next.

3.5 out of 5

I would give this book 3.5 out 5 stars, so round up. There is great world building in this series and like seeing previous characters get their stories. However there were loose ends and unanswered questions. As well as the couple didnt dig as deep as previous books, the closeness wasnt there. Will still read the next book, if its released

Sanders happy ending... wasn't. Now we're left with the question: what happens to Sanders, Richards, and the other SARAs?

Max is a young reporter looking to garner recognition from her boss at a small, local newspaper by wowing him with her investigative reporting skills. Members of the local homeless population have begun to go missing and Max decides to go undercover to discover the truth behind the disappearances. Within a matter of hours her life is changed irrecoverably and her path is aligned with Steele's. Steele (otherwise known as Dean) believes himself to be a reject of "the Project", a secret government enterprise stealing the lives of skilled soldiers and exposing them to experimental treatments used to create new breeds of super soldier. Finding themselves caged, then thrown together and hunted, leads to an almost instantaneous bond between the two. I've read a couple of other books in the Project Rebellion series and found this one to be sort of in the middle ground for me; not stellar but not bad either. As is typical for me when I find myself in middle ground with a particular book it is usually because I like the hero and his qualities, but find the heroine a bit lacking for some reason. Such is the case here as well. Steele makes a great hero; he is strong, attractive, sexy, willing to go to great lengths to protect the heroine, dedicated to her almost entirely from the start. All good things. Max, the heroine, though she was quirky and resilient, fell into some traps that just tend to reduce my ability to enjoy the story as much as I could have. Though I realize she is supposed to be an investigative reporter, prone to putting herself at risk to get a good story, the author falls into the pitfall of creating a TSTL decision for Max on more than one occasion to drive the story forward and that lowers my estimation of Max as a strong heroine. The ending was just a little abrupt as well, but I won't divulge spoilers to explain why I felt that way. Overall, an interesting story, that would actually make a pretty cool Sci-Fi Netflix plot, with a strong hero but room for improvement with the heroine. I voluntarily reviewed this book for the author.

ENJOYED THIS ONE, EXCEPT WHILE IT HELD SEXUAL UNDERTONES, THERE WAS BARELY ANY SEX SCENE AND I FOR ONE AM SURPRISED BECAUSE IT'S A MINA CARTER BOOK...HOW COULD IT BE ALMOST CLEAN?! 😱😱😱

STEELE was hot. Hands down. It's not just his looks, but the powerful virile hybrid male he represented as a whole. Once a soldier, a major in the military, he was killed and then brought back to life with an experimental serum that turned him into half lycan, half vampire, making him one of the specials, a stronger breed than the others. Of course, not all humans make the conversion and Steele carries the guilt of allowing his men to be victims who died, while he survived. One day, a curvy reporter gets thrown into the cage next to his, and immediately he's attracted to her. I'll admit I don't like insta-love stories, but here it started with attraction so it's still fine. But, I loved how protective and slightly possessive Steel was with Max. When they were both thrown into the jungle as bait for a hunting game paid by sadistic hunters, Steele will protect her with his life.

MAX was a too nosy reporter, honest to God I don't like people like her BUT I'm glad she's not annoying as a person. When Max found out that homeless people have been disappearing from the streets, she makes an attempt to dig out the truth by disguising as a hobo and then she got abducted instead. From then on, life is chaotic when she gets bombarded by the truth of what the government or private sector people are experimenting with down in their labs and now she's being paired with them (except she doesn't know) and thrown in for a hunt. I gotta say Max was a good sport because she was literally flying blind in a way when she got in the middle of all this.

OVERALL it was short and sweet, but too bad it lacked more intimately sexual scenes described in vivid details.

My true rating is 4.4 stars.

This tale centers on Steele and Max Harvey, who are ensnared in a lethal predicament together. It features a host of characters, both new and returning, each with distinct personalities.

She sought the story, never anticipating a flight for survival in a realm where vampires and werewolves are tangible...

Reporter Max Harvey senses a big story when the homeless start disappearing. Her usual sources are silent, and frightened, which piques her journalistic instincts. Her decision to go undercover seems brilliant...

Until she's abducted along with others and plunged into an unforeseen world, a world rife with government plots and genetic tampering, where supernatural beings are real, and humans are the true monsters seeking her demise.

In a frantic dash through the woods, she must rely on a man who's more than he appears. He is a damaged hero, not entirely human, yet he stirs her heart uniquely...

No one casually leaves the Project. They flee...

Major Dean Steele didn't escape swiftly enough and found himself caged once more. This time, instead of being forced to fight as the beast they made him, he's expected to run and perish in a skewed hunt. But they're ignorant of one detail... the petite human woman paired with him is his mate, altering the stakes entirely.

In a hunt where everything is at risk, there's no fiend more formidable than a man contending for redemption... and love.

I relished this series so much that I lamented its limitation to four books. Characters like Sanders remained undeveloped, their fates unknown. Perhaps someday, additional books or even a novella might emerge to resolve these lingering threads.

Broken Mate is the fourth book in the Project Rebellion series, but could be read as a stand-alone. Max is a reporter, trying to figure out what’s happening to the missing homeless, and decides to go undercover. When she becomes part of the missing, she’s thrown into a world of monsters, chaos, and danger at every turn, with the only comfort being a man in the cage next to her. Steele feels drawn to Max, but will he be able to keep her safe from the real monsters and his own inner demon?

Wow! This book completely blew me away! I haven’t had the chance to read the previous books in this series, and while I was left curious about certain aspects in this book (and which I’ll go back and read the early books to get more answers), I never felt like I was missing something crucial to get through this book! Steele and Max were an amazing couple! I loved their strength, their courage, their connection, and how they trusted one another in this craziness. Steele has had so much happen to him and believes himself to be broken, but I loved the lengths he was willing to go to in order to keep Max safe. Max was amazing to me, because she had some serious freak out moments, but she never let her fear overcome her. She was wicked smart, determined, cared a lot about those who couldn’t help themselves, and I loved her bravery. The connection between both characters felt true and I liked both their passion and their bonding. I loved that this book made you think about the depravity of humans and who the true monsters were and how one could ever survive against them. I super enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more in this series!

Steele was a Major in the Military before they sent him and his fellow soldiers to the Project for experimentation, torture and for some of them death. He may have survived the experiments but he not anywhere human. He had escaped them only to be recaptured by another organization who it appears is just as bad if not worse than the people running the Project. He is back in a cage but he is not alone there seems to be other non humans and humans in cages next to him. Max a reporter has been taken by armed men when out trying to do a story on how many homeless people are going missing. She knows her life expectancy is very low, these men do not value human life at all. She has witness first hand what happens to the homeless people who do not do as they are told. There is a man in the cage next to her and he is so large and good looking. He has been helping her stay out of trouble and she knows by his tatoo, he was once in the military. Steele knows his attraction to Max will be dangerous to for their survival. Humans are fragile. Now he will be hard pressed to keep both of them alive as they are to be released into the forests to be hunted down like prey and Max is not aware yet that not everyone is human there are Bloods, Lycans and Hybrids among them. Thank you to Mina Carter for the exciting review copy. I am also a verified purchase.

The Project is still the villain of this series but now we have a new nemesis. The rich don't have enough desire to waste their millions on; now they hunt the Project's victims: werewolves, vampires, hybrids and even humans. This is where Max Harvey comes into the picture. See, she's a reporter researching the many cases of missing homeless people from around her small town of Milford. Unfortunately, she's in the cross hairs of so called soldiers that abduct these homeless victims to haul them off to cages so they can be forced to run a gauntlet in the forest for these so-called hunters who hunt them out along with The Project's conversions and kill all in the hideous name of sport. Max is thrown into a cage next to the Hybrid but she sees in him the human he once was. Dean fights his attraction for fear of killing Max with his deadly bite. To read this story you have to hang onto every word of emotion, danger, death, and sympathy for all the victims living and dead. This is a military based series so be forewarned and expect graphic violence. War is not clean with only heroes doing in the bad ones. Sometimes heroes do bad things to survive and safe the innocent and their brothers in arms. That being said this is a great addition to Ms. Carter's series.

great series

When I first began reading this series I wasn’t sure I’d like it. It because clear early on I wasn’t sure wrong. The story sucked me in and I wasn’t hooked. A secret military base that takes their military personnel and experiments on them. First they fall into three categories, bloods which are vampires, Lycans which are werewolves, and reanimated which are basically zombies. As the story unfolds they introduce hybrids a mixture of breeds which are stronger and almost immortal. The next version of RAs is the SARAs, or sentient aware reanimated people or zombies that can actually function as normal.
The series ends with unfinished business and bad guys still alive. I would love one more book to close out the dangling storyline. One particular nasty bad guy who is a Colonel in charge of the secret military base is particularly nasty and truly needs to suffer. Call me blood thirsty but my sense of ohhhh man he’s gotta be blown up needs to be satisfied. Anyway, lots of action and strange things but also tender HEA….well sort of. Overall good read.

The fourth in the Project Rebellion series carries on from the previous books. It was the first one I read, so proves the series can be read as stand-alones.
This series has mad scientists in the military experimenting on soldiers and turning them into Bloods (vamps) Lycans (werewolf) or BDs (Re-animates or zombies)
The first squad is injected with the Lycan strand.
However, once we get to book four, there are now hybrids, who combine various strands and powers.
We know Dan Steele from a cameo in an earlier book.
Since then and the experiences with Julia and Brett, homeless people are going missing and reporter Max goes undercover as one, only to be kidnapped and thrown in a cage with Steele.
Steele has accepted his fate, cares about very little, and would die if he could - until he scents Max and knows she’s his mate - something he’d heard of but never believed in.
His sole goal now is to protect her, rescue them all and get the hell out of dodge.
It’s PNR so you know what you’re getting, but refreshingly the damsels aren’t damsels in distress for long; they kick arse.
There’s romance, intrigue, fighting, lots of blood and great characters.
Max is annoying and inquisitive, but won’t take any crap and will fight for her freedom.
There’s sizzling chemistry, and also cute moments as big, bulky Steele learns there’s a lot to live for.
I love this series.

Max is a talented journalist but she is sick of all the "fluff" pieces her editor makes her do. It may be an Ezine but that doesn't mean it shouldn't do well researched, in-depth investigations. She is aware of a number of homeless people going missing in the last few months. Smelling a story, she goes undercover and within minutes is kidnapped!

She wakes up and is soon partnered with Steele. He is a Project reject and they've decided to make a money-spinner. Big game hunting - shifter/blood/reanimate edition! Now paired together this hybrid and human pairing need to elude capture, and for Max probable rape.

Whilst Max is far from a simpering, damsel in distress, she is also not exactly the most badass female and I quite liked her. Sure she freaks out occasionally but who wouldn't when thrust into the deep end of the supernatural world!

Loving this series and excited to see what happens next (hopefully not a reanimate/zombie cos I'm waaaaaaay scared of them!)

Max was just hunting for a break. She never expected an investigation into missing homeless to lead to Steele.
Broken Mate is the latest in Mina Carter's Project Rebellion series. While I had no problem keeping up I think the back story of previous stories would look d be helpful.
I enjoyed meeting Max and Steele. The circumstances were less than ideal but Ms. Carter made the connection feel real and believable. Max's entrance into the world of other was abrupt to say the least but I loved seeing her pull her big girl panties up and roll with it. There were times when I wanted to pop her upside the head but allowances can be made when the world as you know it ends.
I adored Steele. He didn't see that he is more than what science has made him. I loved seeing him through Max's eyes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait to see where Ms. Carter will take us next.

Oh poor Max and Steele.

This book is Max and Steele's story. Max is a reporter who is looking for her next story. Nobody takes her seriously about the missing homeless she decides to go undercover. Max didn't realize the nightmare she was going into. Steele is a hybrid thanks to the Project scientists, and they've got him again. Poor Steele has had it rough all he wants to do is die until he sees Max. When they put them out to hunt them can Steele get her out? Can Max find the strength to keep fighting? When she finds out what Steele really is will she stay or run from him? Omg this book was off the charts good. I can't wait for the next one in the series.

The Project created these super humans from soldiers but cannot control them and Dean Steele is one of them. Max is a reporter who is trying to find out where the homeless are going. Little does she know her story is going to change her life forever.

Mina did an amazing job creating this series. Max and Steele are thrown together after each being abducted separately. They have no clue what is going on and want to escape with their lives. Steele knows that Max is the one for him but she doesn't know what he is and his revelation might drive her away. I love the comedy and suspense in this story. You didn't know what was coming next.

Dean was given multiple viruses by the Project. Could he still find love?

Max was a reporter and staying true to her current story, she was undercover add a homeless person. She had no idea what that wield was about. A truck with armed men came and took her! Why would this be happening. They thought her into an animal cage! This was so not good. Next to her, a gorgeous man also in a cage. What was going on? Major Dean Steele thought his life was over after he was subjected with multiple viruses. From cage fighting to the death to this next occurrence. Why was the Project still going. Too what extent now?

Bravo Delta Three Five Seven

With each new book in this series, things just get more twisted. In this story we find that the Project isn't the only "evil" out there. Max and Steele find themselves the hunted in a really warped "big game hunt". I won't give a way any spoilers but will say that this one will make you question humanity a little. I will also say that I want to know what happened to Sanders. Hopefully Ms. Carter will let us know soon...please?!?

Dean Steele may be battered but he is not broken...

Max just needs to convince him of that. A continuation of the Project Rebellion overarching storyline, this tale again has an ex-soldier fighting for his freedom and protecting others. When he is thrown together with Max an investigative reporter he has to take care of her, even though he’s not sure why. Their escape from more evil humans is action packed as well as poignant and witty. Max and Dean grab your heartstrings while going through all of the “feels”. A fast paced read it was over before I was ready but it was a fun ride.

Packed full with action from the start to the end, this newest release did not disappoint! This is only the second book I have read in the series but I don’t feel that you are missing anything as each characters has a standalone story. I loved Max and Dean they had chemistry and the heat level just rises between them as danger surrounds them. Defiantly recommend if you enjoy reading paranormal romance read that has a protective alpha male and a strong spunky reporter. Can’t wait to see what happens next in this exciting series.

Absolutely loved this story! This was another great installment into this series! I would recommend reading the previous books before this one. The characters are fantastic and the story is written really well. It pulls you in from beginning to end and tugs on your heartstrings. There is plenty of action and intrigue to grab and hold you attention. I loved the interactions between the characters. They have to figure out how to survive and get out of this hunt with both of them alive and intact.

Max cares too much and Steele thinks he's a monster with no feelings. Until their worlds collide. The homeless are going missing and no one seems to care so Max decides to investigate only to become one of the missing. Steele has been changed by the people he trusted and feels dead inside until he sees Max. The action goes from their and we find out the supposed good guys are evil and the monster not only has feelings, but is one of the good guys. I can't wait to read more in this series

I loved this book. He thinks he's too broken, She thinks he is her savior.
What a great dynamic. This book is full of action and people that just need to be dead.
I do wish I had read the previous books first although this was a great standalone, I never
felt lost. I think the story would have been richer with all the backstory.
If you love strong, protective, alpha males and clever, spunky heroines you will love this.

Steele is a hybrid who thinks he is just dead inside until he meets Max. She’s undercover trying to prove herself and get a story and ends up getting more than she bargained for. I inhaled these Project rebellion books! Mina Carter is a awesome writer who captures your attention right from the start and doesn’t let go until the end. Than she leaves you jonesing for the next story! ❤️

I haven't read the previous books of this series but it's fine, I got the story line.
I was entertained on a lazy Sunday afternoon diving into this world. I was wondering how it could possibly end well but the author tied up the ends seamlessly.
These former soldiers are not human anymore...well not quite. This is some kind of government conspiracy. Great characters and interesting and intriguing story, I really enjoyed it.

Intense action. Thrilling

Great action as always, story that flows nicely, fresh new situations within the world Carter has created. Steele, the hybrid introduced in book 2, gets his story. Curvy journalist gets in over her head and she and Steele have to survive. Lots of blood and guts, intense and thrilling. This can be read as a stand alone, but to get the full experience, read the series! You won’t regret it.

Huntingbothers and humans

I think the story could have used some editing of scenes and some removed.
Premise is good. Do not belive the reporter would not have turned info over to animal rights groups, big newspaperx news groups and others to expose issue.
Also wish that the others lead characters and other sane others had a internet network with info to share with others on safe haven, and money pools for their survival
