Born to play second fiddle, Sefu knows he’ll never be good enough to be king. When the kingdom is threatened, he puts his life on the line to protect it and earns the moniker ‘Scar’. However, he is betrayed, and his heart hardens. He becomes fixated on claiming the throne, even if it means eliminating his ungrateful brother.
First, he has to go through the tempting siren, Pacca, who is determined to save him. The pretty wildcat doesn’t realise he’s a lost cause. But they’re going to have fun on this crazy ride to the top. There’s nothing left to lose.
As a lover of romance novels, Kiru wanted to read stories about Africans falling in love. When she couldn’t find those books, she decided to write the stories she wanted to read.
Kiru writes sensual stories featuring African characters whether on the continent or in the Diaspora. When she's not writing you can find her either immersed in a good book or catching up with friends and family. She currently lives in the South of England with her husband and three children.
Kiru is a founding member of Romance Writers of West Africa. In 2011, her debut romance novella, His Treasure, won the Book of the Year at the Love Romances Café Awards. She is the 2015 Romance Writer of the Year at the Nigerian Writers Awards and 2017 Author of the Year at the Ufere Awards.
What a start to the Black Warriors series. Well worth the wait!
Scar and Pacca’s story is a wonderful introduction into a new world of super heroes. The blend of the present and ancient times provided a solid background for the characters and the storyline.
The characters are all unique and they all balanced each other. I cannot wait for each of them to get their individual stories and meet their soulmates.
My favorite character (apart from Scar) has to be Day; I love his easy, mischievous, carefree attitude and devotion to Pacca. His character gave a lovely balance to all the seriousness and nastiness surrounding Scar and Pacca; and added a fun element to the storyline.
Overall, a fab read and a strong beginning to the series. Thumbs up Kiru 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Fighting Elements (don’t like using gods not even lower case) what more could I ask for!!!???? Reclamation of knowledge of self and reunification of lost love and WARRIORS. Loved everything thing about it. If I said more I would give away nuggets. Kiru this has me wanting more
This series has the potential to be one of the best ones out. I went between 3 and 4 stars. I went with 4 stars because the Male MC was amazing! perfect. everything you could ask for in a hero and the Female MC was decent too. I love a strong female lead. I also could not put the book down I finished it in hours.
I wish the author spent a little more time on details. This is one of the few love stories set in Africa which i was really excited about. tell us about! give us some background on the culture, the buildings. These characters we supposed to be based on Africa deities. give us some history on that. He built a kingdom but i honestly couldn't tell you what the kingdom looked like outside the fact that it was a desert. I would have also loved more of an explanation of thier powers.
I'm excited that it's a series. I want more of these characters and this world. hopefully some of the details will be more ironed out in books to come. I'm sat! I can't wait for more.
3.5 stars for me! I loved the intensity and love between Pacca and Scar and I enjoyed learning about their back story. I think the fantasy portion of this book isn’t fully fleshed out but overall I enjoyed reading.
