Evelyn Lewis' secret dream of marrying her brother’s best friend is shattered when he leaves their home town to seek his fortune elsewhere. For six long years, she’s waited and wondered if he would return. After the shocking murder of her parents, her brother is the only family she has left. Refusing to accept a betrothal to a man she doesn’t love, she decides to take control of her destiny and confront her parents’ killer.

Growing up, Alexander Walker has known only violence at the hands of his cruel father. After the death of his mother, he embarks on a journey into the uncharted wilderness to test his resolve as a fur trapper and mountain man. When an impulsive decision leads him back to his childhood home, he finds more than he bargained for.

Amid the rugged Teton wilderness, fate suddenly throws Alex and Evelyn together. The quiet protective boy she remembers is now as strange to her as the world she’s been forced into. Wary of the hardened man he has become, Evelyn must put her trust in him in order to survive. Alex’s memories of Evelyn are of a pesky little girl, but he can’t deny his growing feelings for the beautiful and spirited woman she is now. His biggest obstacle in winning her heart may not be her uncertainty of him, but a fear that has haunted him all his life.

In a primitive and brutal world, can Alex and Evelyn forge a love as solid as the mountains, or will the past come back to haunt them both?

I never thought I'd be a writer, much less publish a book some day. I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I guess life just had other plans for me. When my husband and I decided to start a family, vet school pretty much went out the window. I used to work with a vet who had three children while going through vet school. To this day, she is my hero.

I live with my husband and two teenage sons in southern California. I have a Welsh pony and a miniature horse (down-sized from a barn of six horses). A crazy Labrador retriever who is a food vacuum, three cats, two parakeets, four bearded dragons (my compromise with my sons when they wanted a snake), and a small flock of chickens complete our menagerie of critters. I can’t imagine my life without my animals. My dream is to live in Montana some day.

Four years ago, I began writing a story that, for whatever reason, was stuck in my head for almost a year. I have been an avid romance reader for a long time, and the idea took hold to - why not? - write my own! What a simple idea, right?
It has been a long and difficult journey from my first sentence to a completed, and hopefully polished, manuscript. Today, I have a completed series of 5 books and a novella in what I called The Yellowstone Romance Series, two books in my new Second Chances Time Travel Romance Series, and I am currently working on the final book in a trilogy set in the Grand Tetons.

Wonderful Hero

This was the first book for me to read by the author. The story started off great, and there were some things I loved overall - such as the hero. However, the last half had one too many adventures and twists.

The story is alright. The "I love you" came out of nowhere. I didn't feel that the buildup warranted deep feelings. But it's a short story, about 170 pages? Alex was the better character. Nothing extraordinary in this story. But it was readable.

I have a bone to pick with the epilogue. It was not about the main characters but was used to set up the next book in the series. I didn't like that.

DNF at 8%

Wow, I have become an ultra-cranky reader. At only 8%, I quit wasting my time on this book, because the one thing I cannot abide is a heroine who's terminally stupid. Yes, she shows complete idiocy that soon in the book. Sorry, Ms. Henderson, but that's as far as I go.

Adventure and Love on the American Frontier

June is Western and American set romances and I am starting with a great story of love in the American wilderness of the early 19th century.

Set in 1828, this is the story of Evelyn Lewis, who follows her brother into the wilderness to capture the man they believe killed their parents, a man Evelyn has loved since she was a young girl.

Alexander Walker had a cruel father who abused Alex’s mother. After his mother died, he became a fur trapper and mountain man, known for his stealth (“Shadow Walker”) and his ability to fight the Blackfeet. In the Teton wilderness, circumstances lead to a frontier marriage between Alex and Evie and she must now trust him to survive. Alex’s memories of her are of his best friend’s young sister but now he finds he has growing feelings for the grown woman, his new wife.

The story is well written with some exciting scenes and will definitely take you into the American frontier. A worthy hero and heroine come together for a touching love story and Alex learns he is (thankfully) not his father.

This was a very good story. I liked Alex and Evelyn and enjoyed their story. This is the first story I've read y this author and I liked it well enough that I's be willing to read more of her work in the future. That said, if I were you, I'd stop before reading the epilogue. The epilogue is just a short chapter about a different couple that is inconsequential to the story of Alex and Evelyn. It isn't a happy chapter though...ending rather horribly and in a cliffy (so be warned).

Evelyn is a 19 year old that was raised in St. Charles, MO. Evelyn's parent owned a farm and she lived there with her parents and her brother. Not long before this story begins, Evelyn's parents are killed and she's left with just her brother.

Alex grew up in St. Charles, MO, not far from Evelyn's farm and he was best friends with her brother. His father was abusive and Alex often showed up at Evelyn's farm beat up because he tried to protect his mother. When his mother died, Alex left to take a job with a fur trading company and would probably be gone for years.

Evelyn was 13 when Alex left and her brother, Henry, wanted to go with him but had to stay to help run the farm. They didn't hear from Alex and then when their parents were killed a neighbor said that Alex was the one who'd killed them. Evelyn didn't know what to think but couldn't dispute it and had to accept it as truth. She used to be infatuated with Alex and now she had to hate him, even if it was hard sometimes. When Henry decides to do something drastic, Evelyn gets caught in the middle and ends up in danger.

Thankfully, Evelyn's danger is ended by Alex rescuing her, even if she thinks she's been rescued by the devil at first. Alex has to take Evelyn as his woman to safeguard her but he's not willing to push himself on her and agrees to a temporary arrangement for her safety until he can take her back to St. Charles. With some time, Alex is able to convince her that he wasn't responsible for her parent's deaths and eventually, their arrangement becomes more. There's a twist in the end and Evelyn is in danger that makes Alex go to great lengths to save her but he does and they're able to start towards a HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story (if you don't count the epilogue). I liked Evelyn very much. She did act in a stupid manner a couple times but she wasn't really given much choice in some respects and she wasn't a TSTL heroine (I hate those). Alex was a good hero and had his own demons to deal with but thankfully, any issues they caused were dealt with. Overall, I liked the story and characters and fond the story to be very engaging. I'd recommend this story (but not the epilogue). :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story. The narrator did an alright job but he was rather slow and I had to hike up the playing speed a bit.

It was really quite good. This is 173 pages, a novella in my book. It does not seem to be necessary to continue with the series but some may want to find out what happens to Little Raven. I personally do not wish to continue at this time but may consider it later on.

I put this in my "Virgin Hero" category even though it is not blatently said that he is or not, but because he was a loner, tormented, had reservations about being with a woman because he didn't want to be like his abusive father, and there was no mention of OW in his past it seemed to me he probably was one.

I liked the characters which seemed well developed, and there was good conflict especially at the end. There were some twists I didn't see coming and I was on the edge of my seat frantic about what was going to happen. All good stuff.

I liked the romance but wish there were more sexy times and more description. But all in all it was pretty good and I will consider reading more by this author in the future.

YOU CAN ALMOST SMELL THE MOUNTAIN MEN, WHEW..

I have this a 3 STAR Rating because the beginning from the farm to the riverboat was not clear and just seemed very cruel or uncaring. The information about the fur trade, the Fur Trading Companies, and description of the mountain men is spot on. I could almost smell them myself from the informative description. The premise of this story is a great one that I looked forward to reading, unfortunately Evie seemed to be a bit ungrateful after a time, maybe unfeeling but she didn't seem to realize it was the wrong place to play simpering miss. Then, Alex big bad Mountain Man that he was in fighting his own inner demons, didn't try to pull Evie on through her silly actions. It is the 1st in a Trilogy about romance in the Teton Mountains, and yes even with the few annoying things I still recommend grabbing this one for a read. 16 yr up Clean

Evelyn Lewis' raised in St. Charles, MO. Evelyn's parent owned a farm and she lived there with her parents & brother Henry. Alex Walker was Henry's childhood friend & didn't live far from the Lewis farm. Unfortunately Alex's only knew one thing in his home life. Violence from the hands of his father's abuse while trying to protect his mother.
Which is why most of the time Alex would sneak to Henry's farm. Where he witnessed a loving hard working family. When he was beaten Mrs. Lewis would take care of his injures, feed him & let him stay over. During that time Evelyn was a brat who happened to have a crush on her brother's BFF. Her dream to marry Alex Walker when she grew up.
Things changed for Alex after his mother died he decided it was time to be on his own. Head to embark on a journey into the uncharted wilderness to test his skills as a fur trapper. When an impulsive decision leads him back to his childhood home, he finds more than he bargained for.

He shows up after the murder of his surrogate family Lewis' he panicked & ran where a neighbor witness him leaving. Which gave the impression to Evelyn that Alex killed her parents. Evelyn didn't know what to think but couldn't dispute what she was told & accepted it as truth. When Henry decides to do something drastic, sell the farm & give Evelyn as part of the contract. Instead she is caught in the middle & ends up in danger when she runs away from the betrothal that Henry committed her too.
She wants to find her parents killer. This is the boy she had a crush on & now the man who killed her parents. So she thinks? But Henry has alternate motives. Which is where the lies start while roaming the wilderness.
Teton wilderness, suddenly throws Alex & Evelyn together. The quiet protective boy she remembers is now as stranger to her since she is forced into the rugged mountain life that Alex has endured to make his fortune for the past 6 yrs. Wary of the hardened man he has become, Evelyn must put her trust in him in order to survive.
Alex’s memories of Evelyn were as a pre teen pest of his best friend. Though now he can’t deny his feelings changing for this beautiful & spirited woman. His biggest obstacle in winning her heart may not be her uncertainty of him, but a fear that has haunted him all his life.

Henry put his sister in danger, lied by having her think his best friend murdered their parents, when he refused to be a farmer. he made a deal sell the farm for fast cash & his sister hand in marriage. Which lead Henry to be a cold, conniving, greedy man who would use his sister to get what he wants.
In a primitive and brutal world, can Alex and Evelyn forge a love as solid as the mountains, or will the past come back to haunt them both?

A lot of action

I read the Wilderness Brides series and enjoyed the books so much that I decided to read all of the author’s books, starting with the first story. I was a little disappointed in the first book of the Teton Romance Trilogy. I wasn’t impressed with how the main characters interacted. While I liked Alex, I didn’t especially like Evelyn, the female lead in the story. She seemed to always e disgusted, annoyed, angry, n whiny and thinking about herself over the other characters in the book. The story did have a surprise ending that I didn’t see coming and brought a new dimension to the story. Also. I don’t want to give the e ding away so I will say. He scene was set
for the next book in three Teton Romance Trilogy Books. In her later books the author cleaned up
some of her language, removing words that took God’s name in vain, something I really hate to read. In this series she used this type of swearing. I also noticed
that her love scenes did it leave much to the imagination,
another aspect of her writing that she cleaned up
in her newer books. I enjoy reading a clean romance and try to seek out authors that are able to tell a good story without resorting to swearing or to love scenes that leave nothing to the imagination. Having said that, this story was not liberally sprinkled with all kinds of swearing; what there was appeared few and far between.
There was only one love scene and it didn’t go on forever,
but it did give you a vivid idea of what was happening. If none of that bothers you, I think you might enjoy reading this action-fillled story.

I really enjoyed this book. I have read a number of Peggy Henderson's book recently and I haven't read one yet that I didn't thoroughly enjoyed and this one is no exception. Love it. And so well written. It had so many twists and turns and one would have never guessed the who it was the actually killed Evie's parents. I will not say who the culprit is; but you will not be able to guess. And there is a number of bad dudes in this book. I enjoyed the characters in this book. The main characters are Evie Lewis and Alex Walker.

Walker grew up with an abusive Father and he left home to be in the wilderness mainly to get away from himself. He is afraid that he might be like his Father; but he is not like his Father. Nothing like him; but it take some doing to convince himself that he is different.

And I love Evie. I like how strong and independent she is, even when she is scared and held prisoner. She maintains her dignity and does her best to stay true to herself. I also enjoy meeting up with characters from this author's previous books.

I also like the bits of history she includes in her story and shares some of the background and research she has done in preparation for her books. She is a magnificent writer. I look forward to reading Teton Splendor.

Evelyn was a naive young woman who cherished her brother and had dreams of a future with his best friend. When she was 19 her brother sold the farm and basically her to someone she didn’t love or want. She followed her brother to the docks dressed as a boy to try and get revenge for the death of her parents. The man she thought had killed them was the one she had hoped to marry as a child. Alex had become one of many fur trappers that the Native Americans had given a special name to. He was content with his life in the mountains and was looking forward to building a cabin at the base of the Teton mountains. When his friend showed up with the girl from his childhood he wanted to throttle him. He didn’t realize she wanted his hide cause she thought he killed her parents. Once he realized this he succinctly told her the facts of the matter and duly told her she needed to go back home. What he didn’t realize is that she loved him as much as he loved her and things went rolling from there.

Teton Sunrise

A brilliantly written story that actually draws you in following the characters, this story pulls you along with it and makes you feel like your there with them. Alex and Evelyn or ( Evie as she was known ) are fated from the beginning to find true love, but then have to fight to be with each other, the trappers in those days lives were always in danger as they had to fight off animals and Indians in the wilderness of the mountains so it would take really strong men to survive the conditions, so how hard would it be for a women, it would take a certain particular one and Alex finds that in Evie. However there is a twist at the end that I never expected. This story touches on the trappers trade rendezvous and fur companies of those days a wonderful tale that I recommend for all to read who love historical romances from the 1800 . I am going to read the next book of this series as I loved it that much.

Evelyn has loved her brother's best friend since she was a little girl but then he goes off to make his way as a fur trader in the west. She doesn't see him for years but when her parents are brutally murdered he is accused of the crime. Her brother sells off the family farm leaving her with no place to go but he has promised her in marriage to a man she doesn't want. Her brother takes off to find his friend and bring him to justice but Evelyn follows him and travels up river on a boat with him and the rough men he hired. Things don't go as she planned. Her brother is killed and she's dragged along to be sold off to other trappers. Terrified she ends up in the hands of her parent's murderer. This is the first book in the trilogy and is the foundation for the other three. A good read.

I enjoyed the audio version of this trilogy!

These three books were incredible! They're descriptions of the rugged terrain, the native Americans, the cities of Boston and St. Louis, and the steamboat trip were spot on! The growing love of the different couples and trials they endured are the kind of stories that lead to legends! There were a few mild sex scenes, but even in the audio version, they're easy to skip if you feel the need! The narrator did a beautiful job portraying the Native Americans, the French trappers, the children, the city folk and the Mountain Men! A difficult task in my opinion! I was extremely impressed and completely absorbed into this series! I'm so glad they were combined into one audiobook!!

All the secrets come out in this thrilling adventure romance!

This story was unlike any I've read. Alex and Evelyn think they know each other, but there are quite a few secrets between them, and even more being kept from them both. Adversaries at first, they quickly learn that they have to work together if either of them is going to survive. I was absolutely glued to my Kindle, from start to finish, until the book was done. Surprises twists, intense chemistry, nail-biting action, this story has it all. Highly recommended.

Teton Sunrise

Alex grew up with Evie and her brother. His father was abusing his wife and often hurt Alex. He would go over to Evie’s parents and they would doctor him up and feed him. When he became older he went to become a trapper. For six years Evie hasn’t sen him. When her parents are killed her brother tells her that Alex was the one who did it. He tells her he sold the farm and she is to wed Charles. She refuses and sneaks on a boat where her brother is.

I enjoyed reading this story

Evelyn Lewis wants to find the killer of her parents and enlists the help of Alexander Walker to help find the killer. Evelyn and Alex knew each other when they were younger until Alex left on a journey to become a fur trapper and mountain man in the Teton wilderness. Alex knew Evelyn as a bratty girl and Evelyn remembered Alex as a shy boy who was abused by his father. Evelyn has grown into a strong spirited woman and Alex has grown into a strong rugged man. I really enjoyed this wonderful historical romance fiction novel.

This was a nice 'clean' historical romance. No one got down and dirty, unfortunately. Lots of action, well developed characters and an ending I hadn't expected. Not saying that was a good ending, just unexpected. The story had some good moments and the plot served up a few twists that you don't see coming. But all in all, it's just a nice easy romance with a little suspense and action thrown in to keep it moving in the right direction.

I think I would have liked this more had the relationships been fleshed out a bit more. I thought it moved at a good clip but I didn’t feel invested in the main characters like I would have liked especially by the time the happily ever after came about. I continued on out of curiousity. The ending with the brother was rather far-fetched and disappointing when I realized this was how the author was going to wrap up the story. I’d be interested to read the next in the series as it has potential.

Evie’s parents were killed. But her brothers best friend Alex could not have been their killer. When her brother announces that he has sold the farm and that she was to marry the man who bought it and he was off to kill Alex she disobeyed and followed him. She was almost sure that Alex couldn’t have done this. From the moment she stepped on board the boat to follow her brother her life got complicated. This is an intriguing and interesting book.

Captivating story =)

Captivating story though some of the plot twists made me feel slightly whiplashed. Don't want to spoil for any future readers so I will not discuss it here. I don't particularly enjoy extreme personality changes in characters. The romance is believable between Evie and Alex.

Great read

Being a native of Wyoming, I choose this book to read immediately when I saw "Teton" in the title. I felt it was very factual for that time in history and the story line was excellent. I am "following" Ms. Henderson as I believe she is an excellent story teller and writer. I can't wait to read more of this Teton series as well as the Yellowstone series....

Evelyn(Evie) Lewis has always cared for her brothers best friend Alexander Walker. Alex has only seen Evelyn as a pesky sister of his friend Henry. Alex's life was rough growing up with an abusive father. That life lead him to want to leave and after the loss of his Mother Alex left to become a fur trapper/trader. Intriguing story with lots of twists and turns on this wild west romance.

After being left parent-less, Evelyn's brother sells the farm and promises her to the buyer. Attempting to follow-him into the fur trader wilderness leads her into a misadventure despite being rescued by her childhood crush. A story with many twists and turns will maintain your attention throughout with a surprising ending. For those who enjoy a different genre and plot.....

Interesting

It was a history lesson to learn how it was for the trappers and the women who loved them. They lived by the land. Slept on hard grounds for months on end. And tells the story of a love found.
Very good story. Just wish the next book didn't cost so much money to buy.

This book was a shaky 3 stars until the ending. The absolute moronic ending dropped it to a 2.

Too much coincidental shit happening. Too much shit coming completely out of left field. Too much stupidity on many characters' parts.

Good book!

I liked how the author tried ok the time to tell the couple’s love story. She painted each scene, and I could imagine the setting in my mind, while reading the book. This was a good romance novel!

One of best trapper \mountain man stories I have read in ages!

A book this good should get five stars! I really enjoyed the description of the country and even the smell of the trappers!
My favorite part was when his horse ran away with him!
