In the days that followed her desperate act, Anna’s life turned upside down. Strange things began to happen, and she wondered if she was losing her mind. Alone in the world, who could she trust to help her sort out her newly discovered powers?
Scott says he has answers, but will she believe what he has to say?
The deeper she digs, the more she suspects the people helping her have their own agenda. Can she learn to control her powers, or will the AbGen Corporation betray her?
You’ll love this Urban Paranormal Fantasy, because of the twists and turns.
I'd say this was OK, not great but not horrid either. It's fairly predictable, without any deviations from a pretty linear plot. The romance comes out of nowhere (except that you know it's coming), it isn't particularly well developed or anything. Then again, neither is anything else either.
But the book is an enjoyable enough read and the writing is perfectly readable. Though I thought it an odd muddle of UK and American English/culture. It's obviously set in England, but every once in a while there would be an oddity in the language/plot—the waitress dependent on tips to make rent, for example, or referring to secondary school as high school, etc. I don't know where the author is from, and maybe as an American married to an Englishman I'm extra sensitive to it, but it pulled me out of the story more than once.
This is book one of the TalentBorn series and concentrates on the main character Anna, who works as a waitress for minimum wage and is struggling to make her next rent payment. Normally, she tries to be law abiding, but getting knocked into on the street by two mums who don’t even notice her and are talking about how one of them is going to string along two blokes at the same time and is expecting an engagement ring from one of them. Anna follows them into a busy jewellery shop and sees a display left open by an assistant serving a wealthy woman, and paying no attention. Just as she has her hand on a rind, thinking no one will notice if she just takes one ring, two policeman on the other side of the shop notice her.
Anna panics and runs out of the shop, quickly followed by the police. She is cornered and panicking more and more, when ……. She comes to with a splitting headache in her flat. She can’t remember how she got away from the police, or even how she got home and still has the ring tightly gripped in the palm of her hand! She’s hit rock bottom and can’t believe she has had to go to this extent to try and pay her rent! In the following days, she has more of these ‘episodes’, disappearing into thin air in front of a man who comes to her door, who she thinks has come to arrest her.
What is happening to her? She thinks she is going mad or has something seriously wrong with herself medically, but can’t work out what it might be. Ending up in the next town, in less time than it should have taken her to get there, and then being helped by another strange man, certainly isn’t helping. The first man ends up at her flat and says he can explain everything, but she doesn’t know who she can trust! Scott says he has answers to what is happening to her and eventually she accompanies him to a hidden building, to find out more.
The man in charge of this hidden organization, AbGen, immediately puts her back up and she gets a bad feeling about him. Scott however, does his best to show her what is happening and how others there can help her understand what is happening to her and maybe help to alleviate her headaches and blackouts. The scientists there do lots of tests on her, leaving it a long and tiring day. She gets to meet a couple other people like her, but with different abilities, even learning that Scott is also like her and that was how he found her.
She agrees to join this organization, but still has her doubts about the main man’s reasons for wanting her to join. It seems he wants to weaponise her skills, but she doesn’t want to have to use weapons or be treated as one herself. She is shown around and one of the first things she learns is that it could take her months to learn to control her power. At least what the scientists come up with ends up helping her and she starts to learn some self-defence skills. She no longer has to work at the restaurant, but can’t exactly explain what she is doing, to the only friend she had there.
Sometimes, your first opinion of someone turns out to be the real one. You just get a feeling! You have to trust your gut and that is something that Anna learns almost too late. Some of the staff at the organization, are obviously hiding some things from the others. There is a secret location hidden within the AbGen building she is now working at, and it is certainly not somewhere that Anna wants to end up! The more she digs, the deeper into danger she is placing herself. The only person she trusts is Scott, but she doesn’t believe he knows everything about what his boss wants. They will soon find out what his plans are and matters will turn into chaos.
A great start to this new series. A mix of different powers attributed to different characters in the storyline give you a slight look at what can be developing. The AbGen organisation seems to be there to help those who suddenly discover they have a strange power, which often manifests in surprising ways. They try to keep this from the general public, but use their operatives to carry out tasks and jobs around the world. These are less dangerous than they could be when their powers can be used, but they are armed and well trained, so things can and may go wrong. Those born with an unusual talent, now awakened, may lose the life they lived and possibly their freedom. An enjoyable and quick read from an author to watch. We have a little action and suspense. Anna needs to pay rate and don't know how. On impulse she decides to steal and then bam. Now the polie is after her and this guy Scott shows up. Scott what's her to join AbGen. Will she join? Will they force her? Can she control her shift? Can she really trust Scott?

ONE TANTALIZING WHIRLWIND!!! Ah hell! Churton stacks the layers, gathers the parcels and masters the passage, forging ahead, busting this baby wide open. Divvying out incredible, well rounded scenario's, revving up the anticipation and adrenaline, with such intensity and precision, blazing this bad boy to life beautifully. Bumbling through the trials and tribulations, along with sharp twists and sleek turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. Sparks fly as chemistry sizzles while drama, intrigue and suspense ensues in epic proportions. The personalities are well matched and balanced with enough flaws for diversity. The scenes are strikingly sharp with such colorful descriptions it gives you a full understanding and realism that flow smoothly. Awesome job Churton, thanks for sharing this incredible jewel with us.
Such an unique PNR story! Anna finds herself in a desperate situation and needs to escape quickly….and then does. She wakes up in her apartment not remembering how she managed to get there undetected and a killer head ache to boot. She is being traced by and agent of a secret corporation, told she has a special ability to teleport from one location to another AND she is not sure who she can trust. This was a great start to a new adventure and definitely curious to see where it leads.

I enjoyed the fact that this story was unique and wasn’t the run of the mill paranormal/fantasy romance. It was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I loved the females sassy personality and watching the character dynamics evolve and develop. The story had suspense, intrigue, emotion and clean romance. There was plenty of action and twists and turns. I’d highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in the series!!

Not a bad cliffhanger, but definitely a continuation of the story. I dislike books that end in the middle. This book was awesome: fabulous characters, interesting plot, well fleshed-out; if the series was one book it would’ve been 10 out of 10 if the rest of the series is as good. My recommendation? Wait for the series to be finished and then read it sequentially.
A great Urban Fantasy told by an author who gives her characters a strong voice. When I was reading from Anna's perspective I felt like I was truly in her mind. This is a sweet love story, with a suspenseful twist as the main character learns about what is happening to her. I can't wait to dive into the rest of this series and find out what happens next.
This is a fab Urban Paranormal Fantasy full of the twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat! With a kick ass female mc full of sass and a storyline full of action, suspense, mystery and clean romance this is off to a great start!
What happens when you rob a jewellery store and are chased by cops. You ⏰ wake up in your apartment with a blinding headache. What happens next is what surprises you the most
To echo what I've said in other reviews, I admire the willingness of authors to put their content out there for other people to read. I thought that the Author wrote really well. The dialog flowed smoothly and I felt the main characters had good character development. However, I think the author quickly into standard steriotypes. Evil government organizations, etc. Also, the female MC who seemed to be vey strong ended up being totally dependent on the male MC. This kind of killed the book for me and I DNF'd after maybe 1/3 of the book.
