Once bitten, twice shy. Vanessa knows what aliens want—babies— and she’s not having it. She’ll change her name, change her ID chip, and hunker down on a miserable moon on the far side of the galaxy before she gets matched to a Mahdfel brute.
Again.
Jaxar knows that Vanessa is the one for him but he needs time to convince her. With the clock ticking, he’ll do anything to claim her reluctant heart.
Nancey writes fun, fast and flirty scifi romances featuring feisty heroines and out-of-this-world heros. Nancey lives in an old house with her husband and two cats who have complaints with management. When she’s not writing, she enjoys video games, horror movies and anything involving time travel.
The quality of the plotting, world building, character development, etc was inconsistent. I finished it. But lost interest with much of it as it went on. I had been enjoying it but it doesn’t hold up. For whatever reason, the intimate scenes skeeved me out.
I wouldn’t recommend and won’t put the energy into a more detailed review. I had thought I found a new author with a lot of audiobooks but sadly, I won’t be seeking these books out.

This is a very sweet and emotional ADULT story of Vanessa💃💋, a woman with severe health issues who is afraid to allow herself to love💘 Jaxar🐺🍆⛲, even though his love💘 is unconditional and for all of time...
A sci-fi romance that doesn’t focus on making babies? There aren’t nearly enough of them. I loved that while Van had wanted a baby, she didn’t let her infertility define her. She still loved herself and didn’t feel broken.
Jaxar is funny, sweet, protective, and just amazing all around. The ways he shows Van what she means to him, and so easily accepted any family they might have would mean adopting, made him perfect for her. All he needed was his mate, and he was determined to win her.
Definitely a five star read! Couldn’t put it down.
I enjoyed the story of Jaxar finding his female, the story flowed quite nicely with Jaxar trying to convince his fated mate that she was everything to him even if she cant have any children due to a heart condition. Throw in an ex husband who wants her back..the story does carry on in the next book which was a bit disappointing ,but still a good book.
Well, I am still reading these... part of the reason is that I am still hoping that Paax will leave the Judgement and get on with the life that he was living ( obvs with Mercy too ) before his brother forced him to return...
I do like most of the tone of these tales, but I just don't feel that the world created has been decorated enough.
📚Jaxar: Warlord Brides Warriors of Sangrin (Book 8)📚 By Nancey Cummings | Starr Huntress Format:📱📚eBook (Kobo Plus) POV: Dual Setting: Earth | Moon of Vel Mori | Judgment Warship | Sangrin Tropes: Second Chance Mate Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Review: Vanessa (FMC) and Jaxar (MMC) navigate a challenging journey toward happiness. Having faced heartbreak in her past, Vanessa followed The Draft protocol—a genetic matching program mandated by the treaty between Earth and the Mahdfel Aliens. Matched with a mate, she invested a year into the relationship, only to be discarded when her mate’s father declared her unworthy due to her inability to have children. Cast back to Earth and divorced, she took control of her life and secured a contract to work on the Moon of Vel Mori.
When their camp came under attack, Jaxar’s clan responded to the distress call, and he heroically rescued Vanessa after she was injured by a bomb. Jaxar confidently asked Vanessa to be his three times, but each time she declined. Determined to be near her, Jaxar maneuvered behind the scenes to ensure Vanessa was transferred to work at The Judgment. His actions have clear consequences, intensifying the rift between him and Vanessa. However, Vanessa, still wary from her past experiences, has no interest in mating with Jaxar. The fear of rejection looms large, especially given her circumstances.
Despite the struggles they face, Vanessa gradually finds the courage to express her feelings for Jaxar. It takes persistent assurance from him for her to realize that his feelings remain steadfast, regardless of her inability to have children. Their journey is a testament to resilience, love, and the strength of connection.
Nancey Cummings has done an outstanding job tackling sensitive issues in her book. The way she crafted a female character dealing with infertility, who refuses to see herself as broken or inadequate, is nothing short of remarkable. Infertility is a significant and difficult topic, but Cummings addresses it head-on, making it clear that her character is not defined by her struggles. Instead, she is a strong, empowered woman who embraces life to the fullest and doesn’t let anyone undermine her worth. This is a powerful representation that readers can connect with.

These are strong words to live by and the slogan of this book.
Van cannot have children. If she does, the process could kill her. After she is confronted by a member of the Federal Bureau of Intergalatic Affairs and requests she 'volunteer' for the Mahdfel Brides Program, Van hightails it halfway across the galaxy to a mining moon. During an attack by the Suhlik, she is rescued from her bombed vehicle by Jaxar.
Jaxar is an engineer and the moment he meets Van, he knows that she is the one for him and he will do anything to ensure that. Even buy out her contract and force her to work on his ship.
Van is furious with Jaxar for lying to her but is even more afraid that one day he will decide that the fact that she cannot have children will cause him to find her unsuitable. Being infertile is not something to be ashamed of and should not be swept under the rug; it is very real and something that women have to deal with. It is important to understand that Van is not a victim and that being infertile does not make her weak or useless. She is able to hold her own.
And Jaxar proves himself a valuable mate when he loves her as she is.
I highly recommend this book. If you love a badass and a woman who can hold her own, then this is the book for you.
4.5🌟stars🚀💞 Author Nancey Cummings has outdone herself in building her fantasy outer space backdrop for this romantic action adventure about suffers-no-fools Van(essa) and Mahdfel engineer Jaxar. Although the technical aspects sometimes went over my head, I really appreciate the detail of her vision of the moon base and spaceships particularly. She used alot of humor, particularly around Jaxar and his attempts to win over Van, and made their adventure both dramatic and playful at times. Yes, there is steam but it's judiciously used and not the be all and end all of the story; that's a plus in my book. Who says fond touches and cuddling are not romantic enough in the building of a relationship?!
Van is a fully fleshed out, complex and driven Earth women who's had mostly knocks in her life, including a badly failed pregnancy, and wants some control over her future. Despite his recognition of her as his forever mate, Jaxar is a brawny, sensitive softie when it comes to going along with whatever Van needs. I loved his eagerness to please mixed with his protective instincts and his constant efforts to woo her with food!
The afterward of this book is revealing and touching. If you get the chance to read the book, don't skip it.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Second chance at love and happiness. Vanessa had already been forced to be a bride to an alien and it didn’t go well. Her pregnancy damaged her heart, her child died and her health was compromised for the rest of her life. If she becomes pregnant again she will die. Her alien husband Havek divorced her and sent her back to Earth. Two years later she is finally getting her dream, an education in botony and never having to be a forced bride again because she is “damaged”. But a recruiter comes to her door threatening to send her as a bride to another alien, so she escapes to an alien Moon and changes her name to Van.For a year she lives on the moon and has a crappy job but it is better than being forced to become pregnant again and die. But when the moon is attacked and the Mahdfel save them, she meets Jaxar who recognizes she is his mate and wants her whether she can give him a child or not. But Vanessa is wary and doesn’t believe him so she rejects him. But true love will not be dismissed and he will find a way to make her his mate. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story of human woman Van, aka Vanessa and Jaxar the Mahdfel who really wants Van for a mate, but faces resistance from Van who has been an alien bride and refuses to make that mistake again. The Aliens want to have babies but that isn't for her, been there, done that. Van grows fungi, she's an almost botanist who prefers to do her job and hopefully finish school to get her degree. Jaxar has been looking for his mate for so long and feels he's found her with Van. The things Jaxar does to try to win over Van are sweet, very thoughtful and really funny at times. He does fail sometimes, but even his failures are funny and sincere. With this being book 8 of the Warriors of Sangrin I hope there are more to be had, I have enjoyed every single warrior and their stories of finding their mates.
Great story about a woman, Vanessa, who was matched in the Mahdfel Brides program and then sent home when she lost a baby and was told not to get pregnant again. She is spooked when a guy shows up at her door insinuating that she will have to be rematched. She finds a job off planet where she can use a man's name, Van, and escape notice. When the planet is attacked the Mahdfel eventually show up to defend it and she finds herself in the sights of a gorgeous Mahdfel male who is determined that she is his mate.
Find out how Jaxar manages to finagle Vanessa onto his ship, giving him a chance to convince her she is his. If he can get her to talk to him.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
I loved this story. Jaxar isn't a young warrior, and he's a bit melancholy as his adopted Sangrin family members grow older while he, a Sangrin Mahdfel, continues in his prime. He's withdrawn and self-protective. Van, short for Vanessa, is still young, but her short stint as a Rolusdreus Mahdfel mate has made her world-weary, and wary. She wants nothing to do with Mahdfel or men, knowing that mating is about bearing children, and that a pregnancy will kill her. A depressed alien and an angry woman - how's that ever gonna work? Read Nancey Cummings surprisingly touching, tender, and steamy story and learn how love can flourish even in the most guarded hearts.
The book gets off to sort of a slow start but once Vanessa and Jaxar meet, it moves along at a good pace. This sweetly charming alien romance has interesting characters and a heartwarming, smile inducing story. Let down by people who were supposed to care for her, feisty Vanessa is attracted to Jaxar but has no intention of mating with him. Jaxar had almost resigned himself to never finding his mate but he knows she is the one the moment he sees her and will do anything to convince her they belong together. I loved Vanessa and there is something so endearing about Jaxar I couldn't help but love him too. It's a great story and very enjoyable. 4.5 stars.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
Jaxar doesn’t think he will ever find a mate so he just does his job. When a moon comes under attack he is send to the surface to get thing back on line or working. But his friend Rohn’s mate has been kidnapped and now he is out searching for her when he comes upon a human female working on a breathing machine. She asks him if he has come to fix it but he is stunned because after a sniff he knows she’s his mate. Can’t fix the machine so they are heading back to base when a missal hits a her and her vehicle end up in a Crater he saves her and that starts their journey. But things in her past cause problems. So enjoy another good read!!
I really liked this story. I loved the fact that Van was not interested in getting married again and thought the reason why was handled very well and did not distract form the story. They were great characters and this made for some funny scenes. Others from the series popped in and put where they did the most to entertain me. Just a fun story that I had to read in one sitting to see how it would end and how they would end up together (as you know there is a happy ending somehow). A good addiction to the series with some sexy scenes too.
Jaxar wants what all his fellow Mahdfel warriors have - a mate. When he meets Vanessa, he knows she is his fated mate but the situation is complex. Vanessa was divorced from her previous Mahdfel mate and doesn't want anything to do with them or to become a baby factory and, in fact, she can't have children. She fights her attraction to Jaxar and his working so much when she was first ordered to go to his ship for a project makes it challenging for her to know how to feel. The characters are well developed and you get the feel of them as they come together.
This is the second of Nancey Cummings books I've read - then I learned I read it out of order. But I was still able to figure out most world building and character background stuff. I love how blunt and literal the alien males are with their language. Every time Jaxar opened his mouth I was laughing. I would have liked the ending to have a bit more action to it - I mean, they get captured and just walk out of there because Vanessa house trains the guard pet thing. But overall, I really enjoyed the story and plan on reading the others.
Jaxar and Van....they just are perfect for each other. No matter the obstacles placed in their respective paths, they persevere. I loved how the worries Van carried about not giving an heir to her prospective mate, were lovingly put to rest by Jaxar. He proved with actions, not just words, that SHE was all he needed in the world. They were a family together. Great read!
What a enjoyable and entertaining read plus I'm a total sucker for second chance at love story. Plenty of intrigue, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. I especially liked the chemistry between Van and Jaxar. Overall a great read looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.
I love the characters and how they come together. Jaxar is adorable and sweet, but isn't good at picking up on Vanessa's moods. Vanessa is strong willed and won't take anything from anyone.... even a handsome alien. This book made me laugh and melts my heart. *I was gifted a copy for my honest opinion.*
I loved the Warlord series,(this is one too) but these books were on another platform that I worked hard on to read, (purchased by $ and time with stupid long ads) and now, I can't read them there anymore but have to BUY them to be able to read again on kindle. It why 2 stars. I've reread several repeatedly, but now I have to start from scratch? Great author, but I'm not sure I like how she does business. There's nothing like giving your loyal readers the bird. I wouldn't mind buying them on Kindle in addition to having them on the other platform, but I think this is crap.
This book, is entertaining, action packed and thoroughly enjoyable. The chemistry between the characters of Vanessa (Van) and Jaxar is wonderful. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Great addition to this series. I love that Jaxar wants Van no matter what it just show that these warriors are not always about having babies with their brides. Van is an awesome heroine with a smart mouth and lots of heart.
Love the character Vanessa! To my feeling she moved in from one nasty situation to another heroically working through them and living her life. Jaxar is a well meaning lovestruck alien who finds Vanessa enthralling.
I chose4 stars because the story was interesting, action pack, Romantic. Van is a earth woman who is hiding from the Sangrin. Jaxar is alien who is interested in Van. The storyline is great.
This story touched on sensitive issues, but also had so much humour thrown in. The fmc was sassy and strong, and he was a fun and committed even if a little clueless at times. The story was twisty and fun, with action, adventure, steam and sweetness.
I’m a bit torn on this one. On one hand I liked that Vanessa didn’t immediately jump into a relationship with Jaxar but on the other hand, they spent most of the book apart and it was quite boring until the end.
Enjoyed this story. Written in such a way it could be a Never Ending series of stories. There is humor, love, hate, a bully, bad guys, slavers, ex lover, kind roommate, a warlord, explosions, and HEA. Each element could be a book.
