The town has been whispering about my mysterious new neighbors and the means behind their extravagant lifestyle. Some have even been accusing him of being a cult leader. So when I receive an impromptu invite to Joe Collins’ sixtieth birthday party, you’d better believe I’m there. But in the days leading up to the party, someone starts sending menacing threats and assassinating Joe’s character in very public ways. With my boyfriend and local police sergeant, Wolf Harper, as my date, we attend what’s shaping up to be the most talked about party of the century. Especially when someone makes sure the birthday boy’s sixtieth will be his last.
Misty Bane is the author of Paranormal Cozy Mysteries filled with witches, shapeshifters, snarky ghosts, and a talking animal or two.
Misty is a Pacific Northwest native currently living between the mountains and the beach with her husband, three children, and golden retriever, Lou. She sometimes fantasizes about living in a world where she could clean the house and whip up a four-course meal with just a twirl of her finger.
There’s a couple of new neighbours in Dru’s area, but before she can really get to know them, one of them ends up dead. It’s not a simple case though, he had more than one person who wanted him dead... Harper, Dru’s boyfriend, is obviously on the case, so it’s no surprise that he might ask Dru for some help. And then there are the other witches in Blackwood Bay, and Dru’s ghostly grandmother. This quick, cozy mystery, is a fun installment in the series, just try not to be eating as you read 😉. An enjoyable book, recommended for fans of paranormal cozy mysteries.
Another rollicking adventure for Dru & crew. New next door neighbours Joe & Laura Collins have glammed up their mansion. Joe leads a mega-church in nearby Cherry Hills but Dru pegs him as a sleazeball. Still, when she & her Guardian/cop boyfriend are invited to Joe’s 60th birthday party, curiousity gets the best of them. Dru learns Joe is very allergic to tree nuts so when she stumbles over Joe’s corpse on the way to the ladies room, poisoning seems evident. But three different poisons found in his body really is overkill.
I really enjoyed this episode of the Blackwood Bay witches. Granny was a hoot as usual. I guessed why she had put Dru's lessons on hold. The murder mystery was a good one. There were so many suspects they weren't sure how they would nail it down. Dru and Wolf get closer and start to date more. We meet lots of new characters. The plot really kept you guessing. Even Maui gets a chance to help. I have enjoyed her series very much and look forward to a new book soon I hope! Kathy
Dru and Harper are officially a couple and she is learning how to control her magic! Neighbor dies at his birthday party--- Joe was a despicable pastor of a mega church so there is a plethora of suspects! Fun adventure as Dru gets into trouble, of course, but Granny is " helping" her --- no problem!
This book is just one of this series and let me tell you, I couldn't put it down between the loveable characters with plenty of sass, a world that I would love to go and visit and a keep you in suspense plot. I highly recommend it
Again Misty has basically hit it out of the Park again. Dru and all her friends work together to solve the murder of the Book. It is hard to put the book down once you start it.
I really enjoyed the books in this series. There is magic, murder with twists and turns throughout. There is even love blossoming between a couple of couples. Will read more.
This book was a fun, creative read. It kept me guessing to the end. Looking forward to the 6th book in this series. I love finding a series to read because the story is ongoing and the characters have a chance to become more real.
I'm so sad to see it go!!! This was a great series with exceptional characters and beautiful and witty storyline. Thank you for writing this wonderful and funny stories.💖💖💖💖
Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. Drew inherits her grandmothers little shop in the Northwest. She moves up takes over the store learns that she is actually a witch and then her grandmothers ghost shows up to help teach her how to use her powers. She tends to stumble upon dead bodies and other mysteries. Follow along as her and her friends solve the mystery. Check it out
Dru's new neighbours, Joe and Laura Collins, appear to be providing plenty of entertainment as they move in. Flaunting his wealth, and some rather sexist views, soon to be 60 Joe has a rather dubious position as head of his own church which appears to be conning it's parishioners out of all their worldly goods.
With plans to open a new place of worship in Blackwood Bay he's happily inviting new acquaintances to his birthday party. But things are not going well for Joe and a spate of unpleasant occurrences only serve to ensure that Dru's inquisitive mind is wondering who hasn't got it in for him and just how far are they prepared to go!
She's also got a couple of family issues to sort out.. letting her father, Byron, know that she's in a relationship with Harper and trying to find out what is going on with granny..
Will she have time though? When Joe turns up dead and there's three different causes! It's hard enough to track down one killer but this time they're looking for 3!!
A good read. Nice plot that was well thought out but that struggled in the end. Not sure why because you had a terrific list of suspects, three different poisons used and a whole heap of motive. The characters had their moments but they too struggled in places. They didn't quite come up to the standards set in the previous books. New neighbours are normally a treat but the more she comes to know the couple the more she doesn't like them. But an invitation to a birthday party can't be missed - she gets to see the inside! An effigy burning on the lawn, bugs in the donuts and murder. The surprise is that there three different used. Is this a case of overkill or are they looking for three different people that want the man dead? Yes he was a conman, a liar, a thief and had multiple affairs. But who actually carried out the murder? Then there is the problem of her father and granny, can she resolve them?
A broom with a 'tude, a snarky cat, a living impaired grandmother, and a not-so-secret romance are just a part of Dru's juggling act. A murder mystery is barely a challenge...unless the victim is so despicable he finds himself murdered three different ways! Dru might even make a new friend if she survives! I really enjoy these characters, and the plot offers enough twists to hold the reader's attention.
I enjoyed the story. The characters are slowly developing and the interactions between Dru, Granny, and Maui are fun. Harper's a bit of a disappointment as Dru's love interest. He may be a great looking guy, but he's kind of boring so far.
My big complaint is that the writing is sloppy. Aside from some grammatical mistakes, the author has a had habit of repeating actions. Therefore, Dru ends up driving out of the same parking lot in two sequential paragraphs. There are also issues with keeping the charters straight. In one case, Peaches us referred to as Chelsea, well before Chelsea's character is introduced. I. Any there, Destiny is referred to as Chelsea.
Please Me Babe, you have a decent story here. Slow down and take the time to double-check your work so these annoying errors don't detract from it.
Joe Collins Dru's new neighbor is not making friends but is causing quite the scandle one things for sure he's planned his last birthday. Everyone has and opinion on Joe so when Dru gets and invite to his sixtieth birthday party Dru cant wait to find out what's really going on she and Harper are on there way the stage is set and murder is about to happen. There will be multiple poisons multiple suspects all on account of him being a con man a thief a liar and a man who liked to step out on his wife it all leads to a bitter end. But the murder is not all that Dru has to deal with she still has to tell her Dad about Harper and that there dating. These books are full of laughter and snark from a very opinionated cat Maui will have something to say about all this for sure.
Misty Bane has done it again giving us a delightful book about the death of Dru’s new next door neighbor but hold the horses because it turns out that he had three things in his system that could have caused his demise. Does that mean three people tried to bump him off or one person or two? Misty lets the readers guess along as the clues are revealed.
This series is just a lot of fun as Dru is still learning the ropes of being a witch.
I heartily recommend this book and series to all those who love a good mystery. With ghosts as well as a talking cat how can you go wrong?
