The author does an excellent job demonstrating how the person and work of Jesus brings an end to all forms of self-justification before God. The author tells his own story well about how we wandered through inquiry, addiction, and faith. Particularly notable is how long the author had to spend within the Christian tradition before really comprehending the freedom of the Gospel, that Christianity is not just another system of behavior management and working to get into God's good graces.
I found other aspects of this work underdeveloped, however. The author's discussion of the atonement, other religions, and the place of works in the Christian life in particular I found to be at best underdeveloped.
I'm also not a fan of saying that the Christian faith is not a religion merely because it is fundamentally different from other world religions. That being said, the author defined what he means by "religion" very clearly, so this ended up not being much of an issue for me.
