**'All the best stories are epistemological journeys from ignorance or curiosity to knowledge and whatever...Also a book worth reading is an education of the heart. It's a creator of inwardness..'

Exciting and entertaining might not be the first words that comes to mind when chronicling 'OUT OF PRACTICE' to interested readers --- enlightening and indulgence are, i think. But, somehow, each word is ingrained in my exact description of it's overall premise.
For me being an avid fan of many of this author's previous books that always has that legal edge to her storytelling well, for this book #2 -- of her ongoing series, Ms.Taite's fan base will not be disappointed then will notice how persuasive she can be with the effectiveness of her storytelling and her keen awareness by just centering this entire storyline on Abby and her love interest. Who is one part of the 3 amigos from their law firm and her (Ms.Taite) still having time to include everyone else even her mom, with their own side stories --- also each giving encouragement, sound advise, relationship precaution and assisting on cases.
Falling in Love is so hard and can be difficult. But if both are willing to forgive, trust, sacrifice and admit all flaws & faults only then will it leads to that genuine commitment each wants.
Overall, this nicely woven story is a highly digestible and even enjoyable read from beginning to that exhilarating ending for any interested readers -- especially those legal junkies and relationship buffs.

Attorney Abby Keane goes on vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she meets wedding blogger Roxanne Daly. After a brief affair at their holiday resort, they go separate ways without exchanging contact information. But when Abby’s biggest client, a chain of bridal stores, suddenly closes leaving hundreds of brides without dresses, Abby and Roxanne meet again at the opposite sides of a legal and media conflict. But neither Abby nor Roxanne can forget their time together in paradise… will they be able to get back what they left in Mexico?

This is book two of the ‘Legal Affairs’ series by this author which follows the love life of three lawyer friends who are partners in their own law firm. Each book tells the romantic story of one of them and can be read as standalone. Ms. Taite is well known for her legal thrillers but this series is more oriented to the romance rather than any legal dispute. I have to admit that I prefer Ms. Taite’s legal thrillers as she can throw all her experience as a former criminal defense attorney into a story. That is, in my opinion, what makes her books original. In ‘Out of Practice’ the legal aspects of the plot are only touched briefly and superficially and there isn’t much thriller either.

Regarding the romance, both characters are well written and have good chemistry together. Nothing off the charts, but enough to get the reader invested in their relationship. The plot is a bit predictable, but it allows for an entertaining story. There is a third book left in the series which I’m planning on reading and hopefully, it will give a good conclusion to the full story.

Overall, a good lesbian romance book with a small legal subplot. 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this one-night stand (or three) vacation fling turns into forever. “Out of Practice” is the second installment of the ‘Legal Affairs’ series. I referred to it as Abby’s reluctant turn at love. Abby is going on her first vacation in years. While on the plane, a beautiful blond, Roxanne, literally falls into her lap. Coincidentally they’re going to the same resort where they decide a vacation fling isn’t a bad idea.

This is also a nice opposites-attract romance. Abby is happy being single. Watching her mother go through multiple marriages has turned her off the idea of love and wedded bliss. Roxanne, on the other hand, runs a blog about weddings. She also writes for bridal magazines on the side.

I really enjoyed this a lot. The pace was fun. In the beginning it was all insta-lust and fun while on vacation. Then real life kicked in they had to navigate their mixed-up feelings about each other. On top of that, Roxanne is thrust into the middle of Abby’s client’s legal issues by way of her job.

My only real complaint of “Out of Practice”, is that the conflict and resolution from this and Practice Makes Perfect were basically the same thing. There were slight changes for each individual story, but overall, they were the same. I guess it’s one of the bad things of reading the books back-to-back is that you notice things like that.

Overall, this was a fun romance with a bit of a legal drama on the side. And like Pam said, with the friend group and all the talk of donuts and cakes, it almost felt like I was reading a Melissa Brayden book.

I started this one on Audible, but got through about 6 chapters before getting too fed up with the narrator giving both MCs Schmarmy Samantha inflections straight out of Sex in the City. Could...not....do it. So I bought the book and started again, but still wasn't super taken this this book.

I liked it, clearly with the 3/5 rating. Ms. Taite can undoubtedly write. But I felt that the two MCs, Abby and Roxanne, had a whiplash-inducing relationship. One moment they are suspicious of the other and in the next breath they are flirting. They end up in bed, sex is great, then a whole lot of miscommunication happens, and it feels the drama will start, only for them to wind up out on a date, then more quick flirting back and forth and back to the sex. The pace felt off for me and interrupted the flow.

I also don't love wedding details, so the main content of the story was somewhat lost on me.

Never the bride...

Abby flies off to her vacation destination completely prepared to relax and enjoy her time of seclusion from others. But when Roxanne falls into her lap, her personal itinerary falls by the wayside. Their no-strings/no personal information fling becomes more than they agreed to but end up going their separate ways anyway. Once back home, their jobs bring them back together as adversaries.

This is the second book in the 'Legal Affair' Series by Carsen Taite. I enjoyed the first book, 'Practice Makes Perfect,' but this one was even better. The three best friends are still working hard at lawyering. Campbell and Wynne, from book one, are still together and make appearances throughout.

I liked the contrast between the main characters. Abby has an aversion to relationships. She is jaded and doesn't believe in marriage. Her mother hasn't been the best role model and continues to marry men in hopes of finding 'the one.' On the other hand, Roxanne is a romantic and has a wedding blog. She wants the real thing even though she is unsure if she'll ever find it.

I enjoyed the ruse of a casual relationship between Abby and Roxanne when it was so clearly anything but. The conflict between them seemed as if it was going to be easy to navigate until evil TV got in the way. The ending was super campy with grand gesture and dramatics. Something you would see at the end of a romantic movie and I loved every second of it. It really appealed to my sappy heart.

Overall, this was a quick read romance that gave me all the good feelings.

I recommend to people who like to read about romance, vacations, flings, lawyers, blogging, weddings, friends, fighting the feelings, grand gestures, protesters, and wedding veils.

Ms Taite seems to enjoy making her characters literally fall in love. A carpet incident threw Campbell in Wynne’s arms in Practice Makes Perfect. In Out of Practice, boarding a plane drops Roxanne in Abby’s lap.

Abby Keane is one of Campbell’s best friends and partners in the new law firm. A few months after they – with Grace – left their jobs to be their own bosses, the firm is doing well, and Abby is the first of the three partners to take advantage of the fact and go on holidays. A week in paradise awaits, in an exclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta. Abby plans to read, relax and drink fruity drinks with tiny umbrellas. The plan doesn’t include falling in lust with the first woman she meets on the way there. Yet, even in paradise, life is full of surprises. Roxane Daly is an up-and-coming blogger, known as the BBF – the Bride’s Best Friend –, on a business tour of couples resorts. Having fabulous sex wasn’t in her job description, but acting like part of a couple can only help her do her job, right?

The first part of the book is all instalust and perfect fun. It’s light and playful and very enjoyable. Then real life reasserts itself, misunderstandings abound and duty calls when both women find themselves on opposite sides of a bridal clash. One of Abby’s clients (and childhood friend) is fighting to stay in the wedding dress business, despite unhelpful siblings who shut all the family stores. Roxane, on her way to TV stardom, finds herself leading hordes of disappointed brides-to-be.

It doesn’t help that Abby is not the marrying kind and has made it very clear from the beginning that she doesn’t believe in forever. Roxane isn’t looking to get married either but she’s not a one-night-stand kind of gal and she does believe in all things wedding.

I really enjoyed reading about Abby and Roxane as they tried to navigate falling in love with the wrong person at the wrong time as well as doing their job to the best of their ability. Roxane’s work conundrum and Abby’s annoyance with her serial-bride mother were my favourite parts. There were a few inconsistencies, though, and it seemed a bit strange to have Roxane and Abby act like they were adversaries when they both (or at least the brides-to-be Roxane’s championing and Abby’s client) want the same outcome: the reopening of the stores so the BTBs can get their dream wedding dresses. And at times I wanted to shake those two lovely but stubborn women and remind them that talking isn’t enough, there needs to be some listening too.

While Carsen Taite writes decent romance, I miss the legal aspect at which she excels. It’s the same with Radclyffe’s novels, my favourites are the ones with doctors and plenty of action in hospitals. With Taite, I want law and courts. Everything else is fine, but I miss the thrill that comes from a complex legal puzzle, and she’s the best in that area.

I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Carsen Taite is best known for her legal thrillers, but with Out of Practice, she has created a beautiful, fun, and lovely romance with just a bit of legal drama. This is the second book in the Legal Affairs Series about three lawyers who have started their own practice together.

This book tells the story of lawyer Abby Keane and Roxanne Daly who works as a wedding blogger. The two meet on the way to a vacation resort and fall almost instantly in lust. They make a pact to leave their work lives behind while they are at the resort together, so neither knows what the other one does for a living, or even their last names. This works well at the resort, but becomes a major problem when they return to real life, and their work lives suddenly collide big time.

This is really a sweet romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The story has a good pace. All of the characters are well developed, and it was easy to see the attraction the two main characters had for each other. I liked the way they fell in lust from the beginning and slowly realized over time that they were in love. In fact, the two seemed to fight the emotion within themselves which added to the drama. This is definitely a character driven tale, so it was great seeing such well-developed main characters. The legal part of the book is really secondary to the romance, but does cause most of the angst that Abby and Roxanne go through. It also provides the reader with a few really funny moments.
Even though this is the second novel in a series, I can assure you that this book can be read as a stand-alone story. I know that because I missed the first book in the series (though I plan to read it as soon as I can), and I had no problems reading this one. I will also be looking for the next book in the series.

If you love a good, solid, and well written romance from an excellent author, then make sure you read Out of Practice.

This is the second book in Taite's Legal Affairs series, which follows three friends breaking away from their high strung lives to open their own private law practice. There's no need to read the first in the series in order to enjoy this one. This one follows Abby, who thanks to her new job, is able to go on her first vacation in years. It's there that she meet Roxanne, and the two women give into their attraction for a few blissful days at the beach. Once back home though, wedding blogger Roxanne uses her new TV spot to face off against Abby, who is in a legal battle when her client closes the doors of a large chain of wedding dress shops, angering thousands of brides. Outside of paradise, the attraction still burns hot, but will their jobs keep them from knowing if what they had could have been something real?

I enjoyed this book even more than the first. I think Taite really got into the groove of these lighter books, and this fun and quirky series. This book was so vibrant, the chemistry between all the characters really jumped off the page. Getting to know all the characters a little more in this book, really let me get lost in the story and root for Abby, Grace and Campbell all the more! Taite is an incredible writer, I love the way the romance flows while still giving enough attention to the legal cases. It was a fun and enjoyable read, and definitely different from the usual fast paced thrillers Taite writes. It just goes to show Taite can really do it all!

An enjoyable read with femme MCs, Abby & Roxanne; with the former not a fan of marriage, romance or HEA, while the latter a blogger on anything wedding, brides and HEA. Would have been a great read for me except for the ending which, was really sweet but was kind of abrupt. A few more pages would have earn another star from me 🙂

2/5 stars

I was a bit disappointed with this one. I really enjoyed the first half of the book, but my enjoyment started to fall away towards the middle. The vacation setting between Roxanne and Abby was sweet, flirty and the perfect beginning to the romance. I also loved the premise of a vacation fling turned into a forbidden or conflict-of-interest romance when they got back home. I think the foundations of the romance and chemistry was great, but from there I really didn’t feel like the relationship developed much at all. The plot felt quite messy, I didn’t feel connected to any of the side characters and I never felt any deeper love develop between the main characters.

This might be a ‘it’s me not you’ kind of thing, but this wasn’t the romance book for me. I know Carsen Taite has quite a few other books that I might give a try, but in the end I was a bit disappointed with this one.

As some other readers of this author pointed out, this story was unexpected and different which in my opinion was refreshing. Not much "lawyering" going on. Different is just different; not less than; not bad; just different. The focus was on the characters and their feelings about each other, relationships and, commitment. Roxanne Daly, blogger, "Bride's Best Friend". Abby Keane, attorney, in partnership with her two friends. Neither women is looking for love or "the one". It is during times of not looking that "the one" may fall into your lap. The chemistry between Roxanne and Abby is flirty and hot. Because this is the second read in a three read series, I liked how the author informed the reader about previous mentioned characters. For example, Wynne and Campbell.

Generally, I really enjoy this author's books, although some have disappointed me a bit lately. I like the way she combines action and romance, most of the time involving legal issues. And the first book in this series, Practice Makes Perfect, was one of the less interesting for me, so I didn't know what I was going to find in this one. To my surprise, happy surprise, this new episode is really fun and enjoyable, both from the point of view of action and romance.

It was unlikely that the two main characters could get to know each other, unless fate surprised them by traveling on the same plane, making them collide literally and coincidentally staying in a resort on a paradisiacal beach, in which they are going to have to spend a few days, for very different reasons. The author does not make them waste time, since they meet for the first time, they feel this attraction, and being in such a heavenly place, why doubt? And that would be perfect if it lasted, although they take it as a holiday fling, with no future or pretensions. And they do not exchange much personal information and then when they must return to real life, of course they will meet again.

I liked the pace of the story, the funny moments and especially the main couple. I love how they can't help feeling what they feel for each other, despite the mess they are in. And you can read this without having read the previous one, the main couple appears here but without much role.

As I said, this is definitely much better than the previous chapter. I highly recommend it.

This was a fun read. If you like legal stories woven through with a nice romance, this is exactly the book for you. It leans more towards romance than legal elements of the story. I have now read all but one or two of Taite's books, and I'm feeling a little sad about that. I've tried to go slow and not gobble them up all at once. But, just like delicious snacks, I find myself devouring them one-after-the-other much faster than I had planned.

Book 2 in the Legal Affairs series by Carsen Taite. Luckily for me, this can be read as a standalone. This series deals with 3 friends who opened their own law firm in order to be their own bosses. This book focuses on Abby, who is commitment-phobic, we can say. She went on vacation at a luxury resort and meets Roxanne. Roxanne is a wedding blogger who is there to review the amenities of the resort for honeymooners. Sparks fly and they hook up. Back from vacation, they find themselves on opposite sides of a controversy where a chain of bridal stores have closed suddenly. Hundreds of brides are left stranded without wedding dresses. The company is represented by Abby and her firm. Roxanne of course, is on the side of the brides-to-be. Add to that she gets a chance to have her own TV show, and the network wants her to exploit this situation for ratings. Even though, their careers put them at odds, they are still crazily attracted to each other. Anyways, I love the characters and the writing. While the story might not be that unusual, I love the chemistry between Abby and Roxanne. It is insta-lust, which I tend to be skeptical about, but the setting and the story-line do make sense. Finally, reading this book makes me want to pick up book 1 and look forward to book 3.

The second installment in Carsen Taite's Legal Affairs series

This was another enjoyable romance from Carsen Taite. I particularly liked the setup and pace of the book. The protagonists fall into bed together first, running with their astounding attraction to each other, and then the rest of the romance follows from there, and I think this was just the kind of easy low angst book I was looking for.

I'm looking forward to the third book in The Legal Affairs Series. I have a feeling Grace is going to be my favourite out of these three legal powerhouses.

I wasn't a fan of the character in this one as I had been in Practice Makes Perfect (book 1). I also found at time there was too much info on the events surrounding the couple instead of focusing on them.

I think book one was still my favourite but I still thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace with this book.

I love books when main characters meet by accident and accident leads to something more, where something more leads to happy ever after.
This is what I love about Taite, she gets it right. I loved Abby’s character. The I don’t give a damn person, who knows what she wants and what she doesn’t.
However, who the heck can stop themselves from falling for Roxanne. The chemistry for sure was there and something else?
This book brakes your heart and rebuilds it within couple of chapters. Absolutely awesome!!

Finally able to complete the "Legal Affairs" series. I've read #1 and #3. This is the romance of law partner Abby and Roxanne a wedding blogger. They meet while Abby takes her first vacation at an all inclusive Mexican resort. Roxanne is there to write a review for a bridal magazine. Returning home to Austin, Abby's client has just closed the doors on his bridal ware shops leaving hundreds of brides stranded without their dresses. The magazine hires Roxanne to cover the brides complaints putting the couple together again.

I was happy to revisit the partners and their law firm. The legal work is spot on (the author is a lawyer) and the romance is good. After reading all of the books I still find I know the least about Abby but I really like Roxanne. I wish there was another partner because I would happily visit their world again.

Abby is an attorney that was introduced in the author's previous book "Practice makes perfect". She and her best friends are partners in a law firm. Overworked and tired of never doing something fun for herself she goes on vacation to Puerto Vallarta where she meets wedding blogger Roxanne Daly.

They have an insta-lust and basically they agree to pass their holidays together without having to talk about their daily lives or their work. After a few days in paradise Roxanne has to leave but she can't say to Abby that she is basically working and her job is to review resorts for her blog. After a few days Abby sees her casually at the PV airport and she thinks that Roxanne left her to go have the time of her life in another resort with other women.
When they both go back to Austin they think of each other but they don't have a way to communicate. But when Abby’s biggest client and one of her oldest friends who owns a chain of bridal stores, suddenly closes leaving hundreds of brides without their already ordered dresses, Abby and Roxanne meet at the doorsteps of Abby's firm.

I was really surprised from this book mainly because it's a romance!
Carsen Taite is known for her stories filled with legal drama but this book is more focused to the romance .
Both characters have good chemistry together and are very interesting as personalities. I got invested in this story but a weak point in my opinion are the brief sex scenes and that the plot is a bit predictable.

Overall, I would totally recommend it and as I'm a big Taite fan, I can't wait for the third book of this series.

Carsen Taite is the only romantic suspense author I read religiously, so you can imagine my surprise when I heard she was doing a contemporary trilogy. And friends, this one is excellent! If you read my review for Practice Makes Perfect, you know I had a couple of niggles with that book. That was not at all the case this time.

Out of Practice is a perfect beach read because it’s sexy and breezy. There’s something effortless about Abby and Roxanne’s relationship, even with its occasional challenges, and I loved that I never doubted that they were right for each other.

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. I highly recommend that the first book in this series is read before you begin this one. This starts right where the last book left off. I loved how we got to see Abby out of the lawyer setting first and in vacation mode. Her and Rosanne were amazing and it brought a lot of interest as Roxanne became connected in Abby's case. This was another great read from Taite!

Out of Practice is book 2 in the Legal Affairs. When I decided to read this, I forgot how disappointed I was after reading book 1. I think that is why I signed up to read this one. First let me say that you don't need to read book 1 to read this one, but I would still recommend you read 1. Out of Practice was really good and I am glad I took a chance on this one.

Abby meets Roxanne at the start of her week long vacation to an exclusive resort in Mexico. They have that instant attraction and Taite does a really good job showing that chemistry on paper. Turns out they are going to the same resort and end really enjoying each others company. Things sort of fall apart once they return home and have to put things on hold when they meet up because they end up on the other side of the aisle on a case Abby is working on.

So why is this one better than book 1 for me. The story flows better, the chemistry is fresh and exciting and I just seem to like the MCs more in this one. I would not say the angst is heavy in the one so that makes for a better story for me. This story just really gelled well for me. I do wish it had a little more detail on the sex.

I give this one 4.25 stars

I wasn’t sure what to expect but Carsen Taite is usually reliable. I enjoyed this a lot. Not having read the other books in this series, I was concerned I might miss something that happened in another book, but Taite did a great job of re-introducing the characters in this story. I liked the way they met, the humor, the push and pull, the angst, and the grand finale. It has the usual problem that arises but it was still an enjoyable book.

This is the second book in the ‘Legal Affairs” series, so I was just waiting to see who’s romance we’d be covering this time around. And it’s…..
Abby Keane has been working on getting the law firm she’d started with her two best friends up and running. Since it’s been going so well, friends and partners, Grace and Campbell insist she take a real vacation, something the three never enjoyed at their old jobs but had promised to do so now that they were their own bosses. So off she goes, by herself, to Puerto Vallarta to spend some time relaxing at the resort ‘Azure’. She didn’t know the resort specialized in couples celebrating their honeymoons. Marriage wasn’t high on her list of things to do, it actually wasn’t on her list at all. Oh well, she’d was here to relax so, while others were enjoying the activities around her she would do exactly that.
Roxanne Daly was also planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta but her trip was to do some research on the many resorts that specialized in honeymoons. Not only for her own blog, ‘Brides Best Friends’ but for the magazine ‘Best Day Ever’. She didn’t have any one special in her life but she still hoped her turn would come, she’d meet that someone special and tie the knot herself. She’d just be spending a few days but it was going to be hard really experiencing the activities offered at the resorts which were all set up for couples. Oh well here she was at Azure, so she’d just have to make the best of it.
When they discover each other it’s sparks everywhere but not wanting the outside world to infer with their fun they decide not to talk about work or their lives before this moment in time. And enjoying each other is exactly what they’d do. Neither expected to see each other when they got back to their real world but when they did indeed run into each other, it wasn’t as they’d hoped. It seemed their work did get in the way and the idea of trying to be together was just not going to happen.
In Ms Taite’s first book in the series, we got to read about Campbell Clark, Wynne Garrity’s romance, this time, Abby and Roxanne, so I’m thinking it will be Grace Maldonado’s turn in her third book in the series. At least I along with other fans certainly hope there will be a third. Another very nice read by Ms Taite. Very enjoyable.

This book is unusual because it’s about a sharp lawyer and her clients, but manages to also deliver a rather sweet romance. Sweet in a good way, not in a cloying way. Partly this is due to the plot, which is a different sort of case than you usually read about in a book about a lawyer, but also due to the sharpness of the writing. Ms Taite is of course one of the masters in this genre. I liked all the wedding details, although I’m not convinced the cake is that crucial! The supporting cast of friends were nicely balanced, there but not an over focus. Good build up after the initial meeting, with the right amount of antagonism and clues about how they might get back together in the end. Overall an enjoyable read.

It was a good read, no more, no less. Out of Practice is book two in The Legal Affairs which is difficult for me to love. Plot too simple, immature characters, in short, it was not, for me, very interesting, and I never had a click, notably with the characters. I have read many books by Ms Taite, and this one does not fit in the top 10.

The story of a “single-for-life” ice queen lawyer, Abby, and a a romantic wedding blogger, Roxanne. I guess if one would have summed up for me like that I might have skipped this one. The writing style of the author is nice and easy going as always, but the characters seem lacklustre and just a bit boring to be honest.
I liked how they met and how you they both seem to struggle with feelings, one for not wanting to scare the other and one because she is insecure about all of it. The storyline that brings them back together again after they leave paradise is not entertaining at all. I honestly couldn’t find anything I liked about it.

I like Roxanne and I also like one of Abby’s best friends/partners Grace. They seem like the two most real characters and I find them the most relatable.
