Hi - my name is Peet and I am one of the Three Whisketeers. My Mom - Choate - ask me to introduce her. You may know us as Peet (aka Peet Den on facebook) or Peetsden (at live journal). We are avid readers of fanfiction - I like J7 but my Mom is really focused on Mirandy. She is a beta-reader for a number of wonderful authors and a member of a multitude of ff communities.
Having read and edited and enjoyed all those amazing stories, she decided to dip her toe into the author pool and write her own original story. She’s writing a science-fiction trilogy and is now a member of the Desert Palm Press family! Starbuck, Aonie and I are really excited about it. There are some really great furkids in her new book.
My Mom is a scientist by vocation and avocation but she hasn’t limited her life to science. Right now she is totally focused on road cycling (much to the amusement of my siblings and I). Why anyone would sit on a stationary trainer and ride hundreds of miles in their living room is beyond us?!
We live in the Rocky Mountains and love watching the wildlife outside our windows, reading about scientific discoveries, photography, trekking and road trips, and cooking. Mom says I’m not that big a help in the kitchen.

Ya'all know those cooking show competitions where the judges base their overall grade based on their apps, mains, deserts? That's what I'm doing here for book 3. Because if I were to take book 3 on it's own legs, it would be decidedly lower than what I'm rating it. This is because for the majority of this massive length book (7,000+ kindle units) the MC's are not in the same airspace. To which, I *massively* don't appreciate/like.

It seems common in trilogies to break up the mains for a significant portion. Don't ask me why. I have no idea. Ok I'll try. I think it has something to do with the fact that the author wants to prove to us the readers that they deserve to stay together. Against all odds trope and all that business. But in this series that is locked down in book 1 so I don't see the need to prove anything beyond that. Shrug. The author didn't ask me, lol.... I'd have made my opinion really clear on this point. Anyway moving on.

What I found most interesting throughout this series was that Alex is presented as this badass Queen of a world of semi-nomaldic tribes. Yet she takes second seat and doesn't give us much in that regard. Where in actuality it's her love interest Lauren who does all the badassary. I thought that was really well done overall.

The science of this series may cause some readers to side-eye, or eye-roll, forehead squinch, insert random consternation here. Personally, I found it thrilling. Having taken college level physics as a sophomore in HS this is definitely my bailiwick. The concepts of extremely high level theoretics that the author explains in a way that a layperson can understand is NOT an easy task. What's super cool about this is that it's all possible. Theoretically of course. At no time did I think, awe hell I just need to hit the 'I believe' button that you so often have to do in sci-fi.

So overall this three book series is one of my fav sci-fi's out there. You've got some of my favorite things, soulmates, sci-fi, intricate and well thought out world building, brilliant secondary characters, etc. But there is also one thing that tweaks my (insert random body part here) in the MC seperation.

I'd say that if you don't like heavy science that you try it anyway. I really enjoyed the series as a whole.

Intriguing ending

This book had some technical formulas and quantum physics. But was a lot of fun to read and try and digest. Such fantastic characters in this series.
