As much as I loved the first book, this book really frustrates me to no end. 🤦‍♀️ I think it was overly dramatic and unnaturally angsty. Seriously, Vell has been through a lot. And I really feel like the author was putting him into one obstacle after another. 😒 And my god, what a shocker it was to find out about his past. 😧 I’m really not a fan of offsprings from past relationships so I can’t say I was satisfied with the unfolding of twists and turns. I also wanted more Vell and David action and romance. *sigh* 😶 Anyways, I’m quite invested in those two so I gotta read the next book. Also, please know that this book finished with a MAJOR cliffhanger without any warning. 😕

Genius

A plot so wrapped in mythology. I mean at first I was getting Loki and Thor vibes. Two brothers with such respect and love. The twist was finding out what Vell did. An action so unimaginable that the king would sentence his son to slavery. Until the day Vell drew his last breath. Apparently this race can live for a very long time. All one had to do was give up two gifts and roam the universe as a slave unable to have progeny of his own.

Really is a messed up asgarden story. Well done!

Wow, this book frustrated me as much as I enjoyed it.

First, this book was basically determined to undo all that David and Vell had accomplished relationship wise and I wonder how the author can get them to the great place they were at in the beginning of this, especially with Vell's Ranger showing up at the end.

I honestly felt love from Vell to David at the same time I didn't feel enough. Mainly because he was still holding back so much, still not 100% trusting of David, and especially near the end when things got complicated and crazy. I just wanted more from him and it does make me worry if he will be tempted by the Ranger next book - probably nothing would happen, but just for the ~angst of it all and to make David jealous, of course.

And while I get while Vell holds back, after all he's been through, it's just frustrating to read, especially when like page after page seemed to be undoing their bond and tentative trust - or growing trust - and I'm just like...how can it be built up again???

David isn't perfect by any means, he messes up, and he does something that does break Vell's trust, or seriously damages it at the very least, but I do have to say that it in part has to do with Vell not communicating with David.

So still, the biggest obstacle between them is Vell's lack of trust in David.

I feel the love coming from David all the time, and he adores Vell, he really does, and I think like the book says, Vell might love David, but trust is another thing...and I think trust is vitally important to keep love going. Honestly, I want a seen where David kind of comes to a breaking point and tells Vell he doesn't understand what they're doing together if Vell won't let him in, ever.

Overall this was still so good and intriguing and exciting, and Vell and David were still great together even as they were seemingly falling apart, but Vell's trust issues are making it hard for them to be a solid couple. I hope the next (and maybe last? idk) book in the series gets Vell to that point so that they can be stronger together to get Vell free, truly free, and him and David living a HEA tother.

Ahhh.... boo

This was an unexpected sequel in that it held none of the appeal from the original book. Bummer 😞 I loved the first book for the clever plot line. This was almost a sloppy and unnecessary sequel. I was tempted to drop it so many times but ultimately didn’t because... I don’t know... I felt like I owed it to myself to finish and see where it went. It definitely wasn’t as clever as the first book. There were quite a few plot holes and scenarios where I wish I could bang my head on the wall or something 🤦🏻‍♀️

So yeah..... the author should have stopped at book one. It would have been perfect. There’s a book three for this but I think imma skip it 🙈

Okay. Two things for this one.
1) the mpreg (previous & current + monster spawn) was a surprise
2) is anyone else getting Thor/Loki vibes from these aliens. I feel shame that it took me until this novel to make that connection.
JK 3 things.
3) I hope the next book we get hella jealousy with the Ranger & David (b/c deep in my heart I love this problematic af trope)

Just haaaad to go there, didn't ya?

Makes me think of this funny (and trying not to be a little weirded out and eck) scene where this shifter who had this unique enough gift was... yup, you got it, pregnant (is it me or is that weird just saying that) and he was dating a shifter and he was like Super Pregnant except it was accelerated BUT the interesting thing was when he was running from someone and he dove for... cover? On his bed and he transformed (for the first time) into a wolf and BAM! a wolf pup appears right beside him!

That's what I call an efficient reproductory method. Not pushing out a whole miniature being out of... *gulp* that scary space that looks like it's not supposed to be big enough for a phone but hey, if I ever felt like of course, some things are just TOO big, you just have to realize...

You know what, never mind, I just wanted to get this on shelf since I am going for the third book.

3 stars cuz the awful cliffy. I need book 3 if there's ever one. But I might forget to keep an eye out. Hopefully not but I tend to forget books that end on cliffys. Id rather have an open ending. That would inspire me to keep a look out for the next book.

This book was adopted from a fanfiction and the adaptation strengthened it a lot. It was interesting both in itself and in seeing what changes the author made to scrub off the serial numbers.

I do find giving zygotes personalities a bit squicky.

David Thomen & Vell. (M/s)

At the end of the first book Prince for Sale, David finds a way to free Vell from the command collar. They establish a new relationship with Vell still happily submitting in the bedroom, but a more equitable relationship in the lab, Vell with his magic and David with his technology. Neither Vell nor David stray far from home, as Vell’s father the king still thinks he is David’s slave.

When Vell’s brother Lonn must travel for an extended period, Vell and David seek to strengthen the shields which protect their home. Unfortunately, mid-upgrade, the shields come down and they are abducted. David is ostensibly treated as an honored guest, while Vell is marked with a magical slave tattoo and thrown in the dungeon.

Before their abduction, Vell revealed his deepest secrets. He is elskan, capable of conceiving a child. He is pregnant with David’s child and that child is not his first. His daughter was killed in utero by his own father. But he was able to rescue her snake like spirit form before it was reabsorbed by the universe. And he sent her to live with her father, Vell’s forest ranger.

Vell’s punishment, the reason he wore the collar in the first place, was that he protected his daughter against his father's wishes. Vell’s father knows he is once again with child, and if the king cannot bargain Vell back from David, he will bargain for the life of Vell’s unborn child. The king’s offer: an elixir which will match their lifespans so that Vell won’t be passed around and abused as a slave once David dies.

***

I’m not typically a fan of mpreg, but Vell isn’t human and is an innately magical creature, so the biological limitations feel less … limiting.

Some authors write amazing plot, some authors write amazing sex. Caroline is master of both in this fantastic addition to the series. While the horror of Vell’s slavery may be over, his fate and that of his lover David still remain in the balance. The power dynamic that was once Vell’s sanctuary turned personal hell is once again a joy, shared between two equals. Living in the protection of David’s penthouse, it seems as though their happily-ever-after is within reach. And when Vell reveals the impossible to David - that he is expecting their child - all the more.

This is where the plot thickens, as we learn more about Vell’s past and how threats may come from closer to home than either of them realize. This sequel does a great job of continuing the moral conflicts from the first book, while adding many more layers of complexity. Getting to learn and see more about Vell’s home-world was fascinating, and I look forward to reading more about Lonn in book three! We are introduced to new characters in this story that are fantastic to root for (or against), and once again Caroline does a great job of balancing humor, passion, and tension.

In The Prince’s Fate, The stakes are even higher, the climactic moments of sex even hotter, the action scenes more intense, and the emotional rollercoaster has even greater highs and lows. There were several moments when I couldn’t control a gasp aloud! And just like the first book, this series has FANTASTIC audiobooks that I would highly recommend.

Life, love, and Vell’s freedom may all be short-lived. Find out what fate lies ahead for Vell and David in The Prince’s Fate!

Yeah compared to book one i rather wished i skipped this one.
I did like the page and shield brother on the otarn planet that came to their aid. i liked their caracters a lot. I couldnt realy be bothered to hate the witch and parents enough but the advisor he was obnoxious enough to hate so that and the cats ( she was a great addition ) those earned the 2 stars based on sone of the new characters. The magic wasnt explained just there which kinda sucked. And the bs that they still have to keep up the slave act didnt make sence not even in the end. It created drama for drama sake. He just as easily could be a freed slave but still an outcast based on his biology and his "misdeeds" i do want to know what happend.. so i will read the next book! but after that, even tough I'm in a slutty smutty mood... i need something better then published fanfic

honestly, i was kind of disappointed that this book turned out the way it did. not that i didn't like actually learning more about vell's past lover, but, it didn't have the appeal that the first one had, i don't know why. and then leave it open for a next book but never do it? i feel robbed from something.

vell was great, as always, he kept pushing through, and actually wanted to save his children, but then david doesn't trust him enough and fvcks everything up. I was kinda bored reading this one, didn't have the oomph I loved from the first one. I think the difference was that the first book was about them and exploring their relationship with the collar and how to take it off, that in this book, with it being the rune and not being mentioned as much, and focusing on the parents and the children... like, i wanted more david and vell, not this :,(

The ending kind of ruined for me.

First, it's a cliffhanger. Second, I don't like the fact that this ranger past lover of Vell is not so past at all. I love David and I love that he tries hard. I don't want him to be with someone who's not going to put him first. Call me a cynic, but the whole child thing puts a damper into the tone. I do love seeing them being domestic in the beginning of the book, but I dislike that Vell cannot seem to trust David yet requires David to trust him blindly. Only to be later on ready to throw him under the bus for the sake of the child. I hate the turn Vell takes here. To be honest at this point I hope Vell just stays in the forest with the ranger have some more kids I don't care lmao I just want better things for David. Bye.

Things keep getting better and better!

David and Vell have been through the wringer, but it's not over yet. Lonn, Crown Prince of Otharn, stops in to let them know that he will be gone and to be careful since their parents know where Vell is. They, together, will fight a kidnapping, abusive mages, corrupt officials, a ruthless King and an uncaring Queen. With the help of Lonn's closest friend, Darrin, and Erla, Vell's previous paige, they will fight to keep Vell safe. This does end on a cliff hanger, but the next book is already out so no waiting. If you like Sci Fi with magic sprinkled liberally throught you may enjoy this book. I sure did!

This is an awesome sequel

Book two doesn't disappoint. David and Vell are in even more trouble than before , and now with more lives on the line to protect. Book two keeps you on the edge of
your seat almost all the way through it. Though the ending leaves a lot out and way to many questions with no answers.

Even though I liked the story and the emotions between David and Vell, it again ended abruptly and the 3rd book in the series is not continuation of this story. I don't like it when authors do not stick to the chain of sequels. Arrghh!! We now have to wait god knows how long to get to a closure on David-Vell's story.

I enjoyed the book but I don't like the fact it ended on such a cliffhanger with no end in sight. I think the things Bell went through were a bit unnecessary in this book. He has all this power that he sometimes uses sometimes doesn't. The whole I love you but I don't trust you cant protect me so I don't trust you because I was a slave but I need you to protect me mentality gets frustrating

better than expected

I’m not into more but this story was more about loyalty than the actual pregnancy so I was able to really get invested in it. I’d recommend this even if more isn’t your thing. It’s more about trust and the sub/dom aspects are hot but also consensual so I liked every aspect of how the relationship evolved in this book.

I've read both these books as Tony Stark and Loki fanfiction. Pretty sure it was a few years ago. Anyone else read that one? In the fanfic I had to stop reading because they turned into a threesome which isn't my thing.
