Jagger’s the son of a bookmaker and fixer. Now, he’s the owner of an exclusive, underground club…and he’s also been put in charge of the family business.

Preston’s the son of a wealthy, powerful, blue-blood Boston family…or he was, until he was disowned for choosing his friendship with Jagger over his family. Ten years later, he’s a Special Forces Operator—and he’s still best friends with Jagger.

But things are about to change, for both men. Because after a long year of no contact, Preston’s coming home to Jagger for the first time since they shared a surprising kiss.

One night, one poker game, and one hand finds Jagger lucky—and skilled enough—to win a chance to fix things with Preston. But what’s at stake is far more than their friendship—it's everything…and both men are all in to fight for what's theirs.

This book was one big strugglefest for me. I shouldn't be surprised because I didn't care for S.E. Jakes' earlier work, and not much has changed. I still feel like her work is all filler, no substance. The plot is busy but nonsensical if you really stop and think.

For example, why did Preston's family hate Jagger's family so much? Why did Preston have to join the military? What exactly did Jagger's family do?

The author offers surface explanations, but for such a short story, there was too much info dumping and not enough real interactions between the MCs that didn't involve them fighting and talking about fucking other people.

Did Preston need to tell Jagger that he'd screwed every woman along the Western seaboard? Did the scene where Preston is dominated by a female Dom need to be included?

I didn't find this story sexy at all, maybe because the MCs didn't feel like real people to me. The ending was super predictable, and I was seriously rolling my eyes during the last chapter. The set-up, the fight, Jagger knowing what he knew ... SO MUCH FUCKING DRAMA.

No more S.E. Jakes for me.

Wow! This series is off to the best start and I couldn’t be happier 🥳

This story really just did it for me and I just love it so damn much. I guess the best friends to lovers is def a trope that fills me with the feels. The only beef I have with this...is that it was so damn short 😢 because I would have enjoyed reading about these two for another hundred pages.

I finally read SE Jakes after owning the authors older works for quite a number of years now, I am def very much gonna get them read.

NOPE. Let me tell you about this book - a boy, who keeps getting kicked out of schools, why? Who knows !! Another boy, who turns out is technically his step brother, offers him "protection". Yeah ok, fast forward who knows how many years. Preston is still having issues with the parents that disowned him - clearly the author didn't use this term correctly since the parents are apparently still very much a part of his life. They call him, he answers, because clearly he doesn't know how to either hit decline or use the number block feature on his phone. (I'm rolling my eyes here people). Now if you're wondering, well why are the parents calling him - simple - because they don't want him to be friends with Jag anymore. Aaaaaaand now my eyes are stuck to the back of my head because I rolled them THAT hard.

Moving on. Jag is into the BDSM scene. That could have been written better. It just felt disconnected from the story, like it served no purpose when it came to their relationship. The dynamic between Jag and Preston is so weird, like I just couldn't picture them together, mostly because outside of knowing Jag has tattoos, we're not really given a true description of the characters. One second Preston is this self assured green beret, the next he's acting like a scared little bunny. They seem to go around in circles when they talk about their relationship. Holy shit I just wanted to slap them. I didn't get it, I didn't get them.

Lastly - a personal pet peeve. You can not suckle a man's tits. A man, does not have a p**sy. I seriously hate when this is written into books. Is it to help you pretend you're not gay and screwing a man? I mean, ugh.

The whole conflict in this book was a hot mess, it was all over the place. The characters had no real depth. There were typos even though this books was allegedly edited and I'm assuming proofread. It wasn't a good read. My first book by this author and I can honestly say I disliked the style so much, I won't be reading any more.

This was the second book in the Ace's Wild series and so far both authors have done great. I enjoyed book 1 and enjoyed this too.

One thing? Get your fans out because this book was heat personified. I loved the steam but also the friends to lovers tale it detailed. I found Preston to be a bit annoying at times but Jagger more than made up for it.

The baddie was a bit obvious but since this was set up not to be a serious suspense/investigative/thriller novel, I wasn't bothered by that. What I WAS bothered by was the length of this book. It was too short and due to that, it deprived me of page time of Preston and Jagger just being a couple and doing lovey dove stuff. *sigh*

Nonetheless, as you can tell by my review, I loved this book and will be looking out for more from this author.

I've been known to have "emotional ties" to SE Jakes stories.
(Might make me "blind-ish" to some things)

I enjoyed this one cause I'm starved for it after Prophet and Tommy.
I like how she writes strong stubborn characters.
So sue me.

Short, yes but I still had a good time.
(PS. This could have made a really great full lengthor even maybe series)

This series is not endearing itself to me so far!

This was just trying to be too many things in not enough pages but weirdly it felt both rushed and dragged out at the same time!

The couple actually felt more solid than the one from the first book, but this was like a knock off of Law and Order combined with literally the least dominant Dom I think I've read!

Nuts was something of a mixed bag for me. I liked the short format and the focus on the repressed attraction between Jagger and Preston. Within the novella format, there is plenty of heat. The bulk of the action takes place in the present day, but we start off with a flashback to how Jagger and Preston meet—an inauspicious day when new-kid-at-school Preston gets caught alone by some local bullies. The way that Jagger comes to the rescue sets up the conflicted relationship these two share. On the one hand, Jagger is only too willing to do the right thing, especially for Preston’s sake. On the other hand, Jagger’s help thrusts Preston into the role of what is called “Jagger’s Whore” in the book. In short, the two have a solid (if somewhat grudging) connection. Personally, I think the way Jakes eschews a detailed flashback to The Kiss That Changed Everything spoils a bit of the complicated relationship these two men share. For such a pivotal event—it sent Preston to the armed services for something like a decade, after all—I felt like it was not well framed to really help me understand Preston’s conflicted emotions or Jagger’s seemingly undying devotion.

I really enjoyed the dynamic here between Preston and Jagger. They meet as teens and forge a friendship that’s solid and unbreakable. They’re family. But Preston’s blood family don’t have his back, they disown him over his friendship with Jagger. The book follows Preston and Jagger over the years; Preston going into the military and Jagger, taking over the family business and these two are as close as ever, but something happens, and their relationship begins to change. There’s also the secrets and the simmering heat bubbling between the MCs which made this a really enjoyable read. I adore a story where the protagonists are both tough and strong characters who take no prisoners but have a ton of heart and Preston and Jagger were the perfects examples of this. A great addition to the Ace’s Wild series!

Turn on the fan as SE Jakes cranks up the heat between two best friends turning into lovers. Jagger's family is in the business of "fixing" things for organized crime. If we look at the work Jagger's father actually performs for his company, it is not too different than private own companies. Due to several socio-economical and political reasons, Jagger's family is on the "wrong side" of the law. Yet in this romanticized world, Jagger's family is the one with ethics, loyalty, honour and a value to family. This is revealed with each memory Preston and Jagger share of their childhood together.

Reading about how parents can abuse their child, it makes me sick and angry. The constant humiliation, degradation and abuse heaped upon Preston is horrible and unacceptable. That cops and those in authority not only turn a blind eye but add to it, makes me incensed. The only reason why Preston survives is because of his friendship with Jagger. What Preston should have had with his family - love, comfort and protection only comes with the family chosen by his heart - Jagger's family.

What Preston doesn't know is that this is not the first time Jagger's family has tangled with Preston's father. When that secret is finally revealed, it all makes a terrible sick sense. As Preston is constantly persecuted by his parents, he's grappling with his newly found attraction to Jagger. Preston isn't gay yet he fantasizes about Jagger. The yearning for Jagger and vice versa adds to the sexual tension.

The BDSM club which is exclusive (hence the glitterkink categorization) is where Preston finally makes a move on his feelings. The kinky scenes in this story are delicious. From the Domme flogging Preston to Jagger topping Preston, it is explosive. SE Jakes does a fabulous job arousing the senses.

This story is more than worthless parents and best friends turning into lovers. It is about redemption, righting wrongs and growing up. This m/m erotica is recommended to kinky romance readers who love their happily ever afters.

I wanted to like this one better than I did.
I liked Jagger and Preston. I love the friends to lovers trope especially when they have been friends as kids. I enjoyed the start of the book and the ending but once they got to together in the middle it went down a little bit.

There was one scene where Preston has a scene with the female Domme and she used the words P@ssy and Clit to describe Preston’s parts and what she was doing and it took me right out of book as I was wondering what book was I reading and when I had changed to an M/F book. They shouldn't be use to describe male parts ever in any scene. Sorry did not work for me.

I also still had questions regarding Prestons family and the connection to Jaggers. It made me do a quick mental check to work out who was who and wether I should be icked out (has happened before), but if Jagger was a bastard then Preston should have been one too, but that wasn't mentioned.

All in all it started off good and finished good but the middle let it down.

Eh. Not my jam. It was a lot of info and character and plot details that were tried to shove into a 130 pages novella. It was messy and muddled and not great. There nothing inherently wrong or problematic but it's not one I'd read again or recommend.

For a short read this had some great scenes and characters with lots of chemistry, however it tried to create way too much conflict in a variety of areas.

Which for a novella meant a lot was just not given proper time to build, it seemed random and out of place. I didn't really understand why the mcs were so back and forth with each other too, as obviously had feelings for each other and aware but they went in circles.

Just made no sense considering they're supposedly close and had this friendship for 14 years, lived together and care for one another so much. Yet their communication is awful and found both of them very frustrating, also theres an mf scene and again seemed there just for another bit of drama.

I will admit to enjoying the first part and their original meeting, their moments together are full of tension and soft vibes. Preston and Jagger have wonderful chemistry, only wish they had figured out sooner.

Overall it was enjoyable for a quick read, but could have lost a lot of random drama and focused more upon the romance. There is a sweet happy ending 💕

There was just too much story here for the small number of pages provided.

Jakes tried to tell an organized crime story, a fractured and feuding families story, a bdsm story, a best friends-FINALLY-to-lovers with a GFY twist story, a military/PTSD story, and a revenge story all in 120 pages. Unfortunately, the result was that almost none of it worked.

I found Jakes' attempt to wrap up all of her trailing storylines and justify her villain's (extremely thin) motivations in a handful of pages at the very end especially egregious.

I'm also pretty sure that there was a faulty timeline at play here considering

Sometimes I think books like this get published because an author's editor and beta readers become their friends and stop doing their job of trying to help said author put out the best story possible (and they're just too afraid to hurt feelings when it's crap and needs a major overhaul).

Better luck next time, Jakes.

“So what am I?” “Just mine, Jagger. All fucking mine.”

I really wanted to love this one. I've never read this author but the cover and blurb definitely caught my eye.

I liked it enough. And yet not enough. I was pretty excited to read this so it sucks that I didn't love it.

For me, it just got a little messy.
I totally get that the books in this series are novellas. Totally get it and respect it but I think there was a lot to this story that it would've worked much better as a longer book.
There was a lot of emotion and journey to capture but what end up happening was a whole lot happening almost at once. I think the story needed to focus on one aspect of it rather than everything. Like I said, would've worked much better as a longer book.

Also, I don't know if I buy Preston being into BDSM. And why he done it, I get it was the thing that kickstarted Jagger and Preston actually communicating.

I do like them together and they do have an unconditional love for one another. They work together and have a love for one another that was born from friendship.

I really enjoyed the guys from the poker game and would love to see more of them!

Sucked me in and took me on a ride!!! This series is hawt folks, and this book didn’t let me down. These two were great together. Friends to more. Now y’all know I’m a sucker for those. Great book, writing on point. My only complaint, is that it was over so soon. Well these characters are. I would love love love to see a spin off of this club, and to read other stories with this club involved. Maybe explore Jag’s poker buddies a little more? Starting with Doc... oooo an MC story would be great too. Endless possibilities just saying.
Uber excited for the next book. Another great one in the bag

4.5. Man, that was awesome. That's the S.E. Jakes I know and love. I got everything here. Hurt/comfort, HAWT, light BDSM, bit of danger, childhood friends to lovers, gay for you/out for you, Irish mafia, military...all without being overdone and hokey, or each part overpowering the other. A perfect balance. Definitely one I will read again.

This was...not good for me. After my 5-star to Christina and Riley's first book in this series, I had high hopes. This was all over the place though, and I just didn't believe any of it. It was jumbled and confusing in some places, and I wasn't impressed. Hoping for better things from the future authors contributing to Ace's Wild.

My favourite so far. No students in this one. A soldier and a club owner amongst other things. Dual POV. I liked both Jagger and Preston. Light with threats all around. Felt sorry for Preston with the visit to Ace’s Wild but not really. Ace and Wilder are adorable. This one is in a bdsm club so a bit more than spanking in this one.

"You've never met anyone like me." From anyone else, it would've sounded like boasting, but Jagger was so goddamned sincere. And still, Preston rolled his eyes and muttered, "Asshole with an ego."
"And it only took you an hour to figure that out."

I've really been enjoying these trips into the Ace's Wild universe. The style of this installment was interesting - Jagger's family business, Jagger 'adopting' Preston as a teenager, and then the years passing into more. I liked how hard Preston resisted - it made the eventual spiral into darkness and handcuffs that much tastier!

"Let's sweeten the pot... with Preston." Preston continued wiring, his fingers instinctively knowing what to do while his mind froze, and he pretended he didn't hear a goddamn word. As seconds of silence ticked by, he waited for Jagger to tell Doctor to fuck off. Until it became apparent he'd be waiting forever.

Let me tell you - I had to pause reading at the scene where and I nearly died. I also liked how the poker guys basically set things up for Jagger - though I always believed that if one of them had won, they would've taken the prize for themselves. They didn't seem like the type to roll over and say 'just kidding'.

By the time he'd left, Preston had an open invitation to dinner at their house and two bags full of toys - "One for now and one for later," as Ace had put it.

Ace and Wilder are my favorite sex shop owners - fun, friendly and welcoming to the new and seasoned shoppers! I'm always anticipating their scene in each of the books in this series.

I'll definitely continue Ace's Wild with Rushing In.

I’m liking this series. I love the push and pull between these friends. The constant angst of circling each other. Knowing they each love the other, but one needing time. And the constant trouble around each other from family and police. It adds to the pull of these two. The need to protect and more. But what this even funnier for me, was meeting Ace & Wilder. That was a hoot and a half.
Preston had pushed and pushed his parents to the point they finally took him out of private school and into a public, where he met the best friend who would change his life forever. Jagger. Preston’s parents were no spring picnic. He often thought they were into some stuff a little shady as well. But it all got worse when he made friends with Jagger. For years, they tried to separate the two, one way or another. From bullies beating on Preston and so much more. But it wasn’t until Preston came back from the military that he found out how deep and far his parents were willing to go. And who all was involved in the betrayals. Unfortunately, it all dealt with secrets being kept and old, old vows of revenge and more. But as they deal with the cops and what all is going on, Preston has finally come to a breaking point. After one session with a Dominatrix, he knew what he really wanted and from who. And it was time to stop running. But someone has set Preston up to be the fall guy in this scheme to get him away from Jagger. Will Jagger believe it and end them or will he believe that Preston would ever turn on him?
I hate parents like Preston’s. Those rich ass snots who think they can buy the world with their money and for anyone to look away from what shady dealings they are doing themselves. Which is exactly what they did to Preston and Jagger. But what I love about these two, is when Jagger claimed Preston as his friend to protect him, they formed a bond no one could break apart. No matter how hard they tried. The only problem that they had, was that Preston was running from what he was really feeling. He was always straight in his mind. But the power of attraction to Jagger was overwhelming. There was no way he could stay around Jagger and not want to do anything and everything with him. So he ran. Right into the military. But coming back, he couldn’t ignore anymore what was between them, no matter how hard they tried. But what made this even better, was Jagger knew. He just also knew he had to be patient and wait for Preston to make up his mind and come to him.
This seems like it’s going to be one hell of a series. I haven’t read book 1, but after meeting Ace and Wilder, I’m sure it’s a hoot. Start on book 1 and have a ball.

I really liked Jagger and Preston. I loved that they were friends, who since their first meeting, have always been their for each other. Friends-to-lovers will get me every time, and these guys were no different. You could tell how much they cared about each other, but neither really seemed willing to be the first to make the move. Particularly on Preston's side, as he's always identified as straight, so having feelings for a man, even his best friend, was something new for him.

The story was interesting, but I just felt there was a little something missing. Even with this being a novella, I wish their story had been fleshed out more, especially when it came to what led them to where they were today. We didn't get a lot of backstory on Preston's family, which I think would have helped towards the end, when things came to a head.

All in all, though, it was an entertaining read. I'm enjoying seeing Ace and Wilder in each of these stories, they always bring a little comic relief, Wilder in particular!
As always, you don't have to read any of the books in the Ace's Wild series in any particular order- Ace and Wilder are the only characters who crossover!

Pretty typical S.E. Jakes. Hyper-macho characters, kink, fluid dynamic, so-so writing that jumps around and doesn't always make total sense, to the point where you feel like maybe you missed a page or some key development... I always get the feeling that this author forgets that the reader doesn't live in her head with the story, and then leaves out some key plot or emotional developmental scenes to bring the reader up to speed, so the result is something that doesn't always seem to flow smoothly. There also has to be some suspension of belief when reading her stuff, as it's never even close to realistic. That being said, I did enjoy the characters and the dynamic, and overall like it for what it was.

I love how different authors write stories for the same series and they intertwine. This is second novella in the Ace’s Wild series and it can be read is a total standalone. Jagger and Preston had a complicated relationship from the beginning and it got even if more concluded/blurred when Preston kissed Jagger when he was on leave. Their bond and chemistry is extremely solid and I pity anyone that tries to hurt the other. Buckle up because it’s a wild ride. Will Preston finally given to his feelings for Jagger? I can’t wait for more of the series!!

So I can’t really put my finger on what I didn’t like about this story, just that it didn’t feel like enough. And this was not because it was short, but rather as another reviewer said, that everything was just surface level. I also was constantly confused as to why they were fighting being together. They both wanted to be, they both knew they wanted to be, but they didn’t? The poker scene also turned me off of this one. I’m not sure Preston really consented to be the bet? Maybe he did, I guess I was just lost for most of this one.

I liked what was there. The story is a bit imbalanced though, starting with the promise of suspense and cloak and dagger stuff, but then leaning heavily into the kinky sex part before a quick finishing up showdown. So basically this was too short for all those secrets, insecurities, family issues and conspiracies. A lot of it went unexplained or just left at vague insinuations.
I do love suspense plot elements, but I really think this book would have turned out better as a simple friends to lovers story spiked up by Preston coming to terms with his kinkier desires.

LOVED!

This books packed a punch for being so short! It was just flawless! SE is such a talented writer, all the back stories always flow effortlessly, making you feel like you’ve known the characters forever. Jagger and Pres were AMAZING, I just adored them! And Jagger was so freaking sexy! Is it crazy that I want books for all the other poker buddies? Specially Doc.

Loved this. The 2nd half was super emotional and incredibly touching. What a great MC Jagger turned out to be. Smart as a whip and his sexiness and gruff came out of the pages so well.

I have to add that Ace and Wilder are adorable. And I love how they carry through exactly the same from book one.
