Alastor is a standalone novel within the Harbinger Series and can be read separately.

Alastor has been known for many things throughout his incredibly long life. He’s the keeper of the fires of Hell, the proprietor of The Firehouse, Hell’s most nefarious bar (also the only bar). For the right price, there isn’t much he wouldn’t do. But where Rasha has been concerned, he’s always been more friend than fiend.
He knew every curve of her body, every delicate line of her face. He had stared into Rasha’s eyes a thousand times throughout her life. Then when he no longer saw the girl, he had sworn to protect, but the woman he was destined to love, he had to turn away. He had sworn to protect her, even if that meant protecting her from himself.
It’s been nearly two decades that he’s been avoiding her, but the moment she walks into his bar he knows there is no avoiding the inevitable; he needs to tell her that his heart and what’s left of his soul belongs to her.
There’s only one problem she’s demanding answers from him, she needs to know why everyone in her life has turned their back on her. As an infant, it was her coven having sacrificed her to the fires of Hell. As a young woman, it had been Alastor, her only friend and now as an adult, even her father has turned his back on her.
When she decides to seek out the coven that had tossed her into the fires of the river Phlegethon at three days old; Alastor can’t sit idly by and let her walk headlong into the dangers of a coven he doesn’t trust.
Will Alastor find his way back into Rasha’s life as her protector and lover, or prove to her once again that everyone she loves abandons her?

As a BONUS at the end of Alastor, there is a Harbinger Series Short Story - The fall of Gabriel.
This short bonus story will only ever be available at the end of Alastor as a BONUS.

First book by Jennifer Field and it was a good read. I loved seeing the chemistry between Roth and Rasha and his devotion to her. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This story was told by an outside narrator which gave a good perspective of all the characters in the book. Something that I think was helpful since it was kind of a short story. I like the description of this Underworld and see how the writer really set this up for more stories in stand-alone romances. Her writing is elegant yet clear to understand.
It did have a little sizzle in it like promised but I would have liked a little more of a challenge with the two main characters coming together. I would have liked to have seen them but heads a little more. Still, the ending was great and I liked the added extra at the end of the book. I am looking forward to reading another and believe this series is going to get better.
