Our couple finds a fresh spark in their relationship !

Simply fantastic story of our established couple of thirteen years, Malcolm/Mal and Emory/Em, who are traveling for Thanksgiving to see Emory’s unloving parents. They have vehicle trouble, and need to stay in a quaint, friendly town. When Em calls to tell his folks of their misfortune, his Mom is anything but understanding. Our men make the best of their trouble, and end up at Ace’s Wild sex toy shop. Mal has some ideas of what he can do to help relieve Em’s OCD controlling ways. Em needs relief from his stress. So, Mal takes control in bed and does try something new, and it works out gloriously.
The Inn owner invites them to Thanksgiving dinner, and a huge surprise comes to them. It causes issues, and a showdown of sorts.
Heartwarming, terrific characters all around, with more surprises, too.
Highly recommended.
Enjoy !

I hated all the homophobia spewed by Embry's parents, but loved how Malcolm and Embry handled it. Other than that, it was actually a beautiful story, even if it was a bit sad. I felt so sorry for Embry. Every aspect of his life had always been controlled by his parents...especially his mother. She has always disapproved of everything that didn't include her or her opinion. You can imagine what happened when he let her know that he was going to marry Malcolm, his long-time boyfriend. To say that it didn't go over well would be the understatement of the year, and she, if anything only became worse. Of course, he was stressed but Malcolm, who was his complete opposite let him know that it just didn't matter, and he was always there for him. After all, for thirteen years, they'd laughed, cried and loved....and that was not going to change for anybody. Five years go by, and Embry is finally invited by his parents for Thanksgiving, but he knew it wasn't going to be good because they were again excluding his Malcolm. Malcome and Embry agreed that this was not going to happen... they were going to soon be married and this was going to be the last chance they were going to give Embry's parents to accept his and Malcom's relationship. Then, on their way to Emby's parents in Florida, the car breaks down. Embry’s stress level is now in overdrive and Malcolm decided he needed some new tricks to help him out...so they stop at Ace’s Wild, while waiting for the car to be repaired. Life started to have new meaning to Embry, and it was time for some major things to shake up. The entire little town was accepting of Malcom and Embry's relationship and since they guys obviously weren't going to Florida since the car needed a part that had to be ordered, they were invited to Thanksgiving dinner by the lady and her husband that owned the little hotel in town. As they sat down for dinner, who should show up unannounced...but Embry's parents. Things went from bad to worse to even much, much worse, as Embry's mother let everyone, complete strangers to her, know...in no uncertain terms, just how she felt about her son and his husband to be. I loved Malcolm. He never let anything that Embry's mother said or thought bother him in the least, nor did he ever say anything derogatory back to her. All he wanted to do was make Embry feel safe and happy. I loved Malcolm that much more for having so much patience and love for his special man that he wasn’t deterred by anything as trivial some homophobe's hate...and strived that much more to help Embry finally realized how free and happy he deserved to be.

I really enjoyed this book. It is about a couple, who has been together for 12 years. I really liked the storytelling about the growths in the relationship. It's been nice reading a story not about falling but about staying in love.

Before we get started, I do want to warn you there is a bit of homophobia in this one. From parents. And talk of a hate crime from another set of parents in reference to their son. It’s not real descriptive, but it’s enough I just want to give a warning. Other than that, it’s actually a beautiful and yet a bit sad of a story. And I loved it. I was sad a few times but then so proud and happy at how it turned out.
For Embry, life has to be controlled and just so. It comes from constantly having disapproval from his parents. So when he chose that he was going to marry Malcolm, when that didn’t go over well, his control became worse. Not in a bad way. But just that he was stressed a lot. And Malcolm was his complete opposite. But for thirteen years, they’ve laughed, cried and loved. After 5 years of not speaking to his parents, Embry was finally invited to his parents for Thanksgiving, but he knew it was going to be bad because they were already excluding Malcolm, like they always do. So when the car broke down, Embry’s stress levels went in overdrive and Malcolm finally decided he needed some new tricks to help him. After visiting Ace’s Wild, they had new tricks and things began to change. Life started to have new meaning to Embry, and it was time for some major things to shake up. Which turned out to be the best Thanksgiving he ever had. Now if he can get past his nervousness to make it even better.
You know, it’s funny because I just had a conversation like this with my mother. Who I love dearly, but growing up in a Christian household, sometimes acceptance is a rare thing. And I told her it shouldn’t matter if I was gay, purple or whatever. Parents should love their children no matter what. It doesn’t mean we won’t disappoint them, but a parent’s love should never be conditional. So for me, that was the sad part of this story and made me want to hug Embry so bad. And then hearing another story of homophobia, made my heart break. We were all made to be different so it breaks my heart when it’s not accepted. Who cares what someone wants to do in their bedroom or church or whatever. That’s what makes us all different. If we weren’t all different, this world would be a very boring place.
But what I loved even more about this book, is Malcolm. Knowing he wasn’t accepted by Embry’s parents never even was a blip on his radar. He loved the man no matter what. No matter how structured or in order he had to be. No matter his parents. No matter what. Embry was it for him. All he wanted to do was take the man’s pain away. And he found a way to do so. He never gave up, he just tried something new and it worked. It strengthened their bond and made the love between them that much stronger. And I loved Malcolm for having that much patience and love for his man, that he wasn’t deterred by something trival. And for Embry, he finally realized how freeing he could be.

Long term relationship goals

I approached the story with trepidation as too often stories about relationships on the rocks tend to go south. This, fortunately, was not one of those! The MCs clearly were meant for each other and it was heartwarming to read their willingness to put in some work to keep it going strong. The hot sexy times worked too lol. Great read.

I've read three books in this series and this one is my favorite. Maybe I'm biased because I loved Davidson Kong's writing. But this book was great, the opposites attract vibe Mal and Em had was great. Highly recommended this one!

It was lovely to read a story about an established couple and not from a perspective of things have gone stale, but as a sign that you can still be madly in love and grow together after all those years.

I love this author’s writing and when she had a story in the Ace’s Wild series I jumped in to reading it! Vintage Ridge is such a magical place where new couples find each other or the case of Malcom and Embry rediscover their passion with help of the Ace and Wilder’s adult store in town. Mal keeps Em from getting inside his head and spiraling and Em keeps Mal on schedule. They are just perfect for each other and they balance each other out. On their trip to Florida to see Em’s estranged parents for Thanksgiving they break down in Vintage Ridge. Will Embry spiral leaving Mal to figure it out on his own? Will Thanksgiving be ruined? I highly recommend this book!!

This story ruled. It was recommended on a Facebook book group to me. The author also said it was great in the same group. Which I've had that happen before and the book wasn't that great. This time the book was excellence it was what I needed in somewhat what I was looking for.

Emory and Malcolm have been together for 13 years this is the first year in five years they're going to visit Emory's parents in Florida who do not approve of his life. they want him to marry a woman and he didn't get married or officially engaged to Malcolm after the blow up last time.

Things do not go as planned and they actually break down in a small town. While they're there they go to this shop Ace's Wild. They get a few things and Malcolm explores more in the bedroom with Emory finding out that he doesn't really need to be in control all the time like he thought he did. It was wonderful I loved every moment of them together during those parts it was definitely what Emery needed to be taken care of and let everything go for a while.

There was a little bit of angst when Emory's parents showed up. They were missing Thanksgiving instead of them going to Florida his parents came there thanks to someone getting them two tickets on a plane however it was not a warm welcome. They made Emery feel horrible and they were not nice to the people that Emery and Malcolm was having Thanksgiving with hey. I wasn't sure if there would be a turnaround 4 and Emory's parents and where is that it wasn't.

I was so glad that his mom at least came to a revelation after Emery propose to Malcolm. That was the most beautiful moment of this entire book and I was so happy that it also had their wedding at the end. Helen and Barry were wonderful people I like Birdie also their daughter and her wife Jennifer. Ace and Wilder we're all so cool.

Emory definitely opened up more by the end and enjoyed what Malcolm was doing by letting him take all the control in their sex life and by him I mean Malcolm. What Emery did at their wedding was definitely awesome and I wish it had more of that moment but this was a perfect book and I highly recommend it.

Malcolm and Embry’s visit to Ace’s Wild takes place while traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. The couple of thirteen years find themselves stuck in Vintage Ridge after their vehicle breaks down. I enjoyed reading about an established, opposites-attract couple that continually put the effort in to make a long-term relationship work. Initially, I was a little worried the story would be filled with excessive relationship drama, but it isn’t. The romance is sweet and endearing. It was great to see these guys grow even stronger as a couple while exploring some very mild kink.

The external relationships, specifically Emory’s family, are where all the drama comes into play. Note, there is homophobia from one set of parents and another character shares the story of a hate crime against their son. These instances are not overly graphic but detailed enough to make your heart hurt over the continued ignorant bigotry in our world.

This book is everything I’d hope to get in a novella—a short but complete story with an array of interesting characters and a happily-ever-after ending.

This is set at Thanksgiving but you can read it anytime. It was a sweet story about long-established couple who are on a road trip to go back to see Embry's parents for the first time in 5 years. They haven't spoken (have spoken but not seen each other) in that long since they refused to accept that Embry and Malcolm announced they want to get married. Their car breaks down in a small town (this is part of a series of interconnecting books but you can read as stand-alone) and when Malcolm sees an adult store he starts to think maybe there is a way to get Embry out of his stressed out "I must control everything" head.

I loved that Malcolm and Embry were complete opposites but they both loved each other to death and were willing not to get annoyed when one wanted control or was too fly by the seat of their pants for comfort. Total acceptance was nice and the testing of toys was nice to see in a "you can teach an old dog new tricks". Just because you've been together 13 years doesn't mean you can't discover new things about yourselves.

The hotel owners family who welcome them into their home for Thanksgiving was sweet and cute and I was glad that Embry was able to confront his parents and be at peace with the situation. So overall, a cute story with a feel-good ending.

It’s not Thanksgiving without a few flying mashed potatoes and family drama!

Mal and Embry are on their way to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with Em’s homophobic hyper critical parents, but mechanical issues results in their best Thanksgiving yet. While waiting for the car to be repaired, they discover Ace’s Wild.

The guys have been together for thirteen years, but a trip to Ace’s Wild results in them learning new things about themselves and each other. Also, the love and trust the share doubles.

While mild kink does play a role in this book, it is more about family. Family who should love you unconditionally (Mal’s), strangers who open their hearts and home in welcome (hotel owner), and family who you cut ties with because their love comes with conditions (Em’s).

Ahh. Last but not least, a memorable Thanksgiving that includes flying potatoes, tears, laughter, and love.

This novella packs everything: character development, relationship development, a sticky situation that needs to be dealt with, sexy times, love, great secondary characters, new friends, and basically all the feels you could want. I even cried when I read the Thanksgiving scene and I didn't mind one bit.
The kink is very light and very sweet. It is basically about one MC needing to practice giving up control. I feel you, Em. If you can learn it in the bedroom, it helps you to need less control in the rest of your life.

It was refreshing to read about an established couple (they have been together for 13 years) that wasn't too perfect together. They were real. They had learned to cope with irritations, when to leave the other be and when not to, and they continued to try to be the best for each other. It was very sweet and relatable.

One of the best novellas I've read so far.

Such a sweet book.
Embry is a bit of a control freak and Max, his partner is very laid back, so things going awry on their trip to visit Embry's parents throw him into a tailspin.
He's already dreading the reunion because of their treatment of him and also their opposition to Max.
Their finding the toy shop seems perfect for Max to help Embry relinquish that control and relax.
The holiday setting was the perfect vehicle for the emotional turmoil Embry was subjected to by his parents because it's a time of gathering with family and friends to celebrate love and Embry's parents were sorely lacking in the parental department.

I really loved this story. It was sweet with a tiny bit of angst. It had a couple I would love to know with one slightly anxiety ridden MC that I wanted to hug the stuffing out of. There were a few tiny things that made me pause but nothing I couldn't overlook. I'd love to say I want more but really this story is complete.

TAGS
-- sweet -- tiny bit of angst -- very low level kink -- made me chuckle -- warmed my heart -- parents that need a stern talking to -- thank god, finally a mother that came to her senses -- a very loving couple of MCs... Mal and Em, loved them both -- sigh worthy -- recommend

I really wanted to give this 5 stars because I just love everything Davidson King writes. It was such a great story and she managed pack a lot into the plot. It was sweet and steamy and I loved it. At the beginning though there were a few editing errors and I have a weird reviewers code about not giving 5 stars to books with typos/grammatical errors. I will say that they didn’t really distract from the story and it was just a few spots in the beginning. It in no way should discourage someone from reading the book.

This story had me steaming mad...but definitely not at the writing...but on the behalf of the main characters. Malcolm and Embry have been together a very long time. It's unfortunate that Embry's family can't seem to accept it. A trip south to try and rectify their relationship turns into a reason for Malcolm to try and bring Embry outside of himself. The town and it's inhabitants finally show Embry what it means to be and have family that truly loves you for who you are and not for what they THINK you should be.

Another great add to the series. Malcolm and Embry are epic! I love when I read a story about a couple years later discovering something new about themselves; growing closer together. Sexy, kinky and sweet are the perfect mix. Mal and Em are different but that was my favorite part because I couldn't choose who I loved more. With everything you expect from Davidson King and some hilarious moments make this the best thanksgiving read. Can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.

Trust, Tears and Tolerance

Mal and Em have been together for 13 years, but it took a detoured Thanksgiving vacation for them to see their relationship on another level. With help from Ace and Wilder and the charms of Vintage Ridge they confront the past and soar into a better future. There will be tears; frustrated tears, angry tears, forgiving tears and loving tears. Grab the tissues.

I loved this story. What I really loved was, this was about an established couple. Malcolm and Embry have been a couple for 13 years and through an adventure on the way to Embry's parents for Thanksgiving, they learn new things about each other. This story packs so much into its 100 pages, from laughter to tears and a little kink and angst for good measure. Another five star story from Davidson King.

Great Ace's Wild story

I really enjoyed this book. I was a little worried when I read that this was an established couple that I wasn't familiar with. But I shouldn't have because Davidson King wrote it so that I didn't feel lost.
It's a beautifully written story with yummy sexy times. I am so glad I read it.

Malcolm and Embry!

These two were definitely a favorite so far for me in this series. The love they already had for one another after being together for thirteen years only grew more as they were left stranded in Vintage Ride for the Thanksgiving holiday. A sweetly, hot story by a new author for me.

Enjoyable story, though at times I found it was telling me the story rather my being immersed in it.
Bit of a road trip, unexpected stop that brings new friends.
Bit of a nightmare parental problem for Embrey, which escalates and resolves with some progress.
The link in the series is the sex shop, so a bit of humour injected there and a mild venture into kink for the boys.

Such a a fantastic book. Shows that the people that really want to be in our lifes will do what it takes to be there. Embry deserved the love from his family more than anything and Malcolm was there for him when he didn't get it. These couple was so supportive of each other and their love was everything

This is my first Davidson King book

But I promise it won’t be the last. This story was fantastic. So many don’t realize the healing powers BDSM holds for some. It’s about trust and letting go which was exactly what these two needed.

Absolutely loved it!
