Abel LeBlanc, better known to his brothers as Riggs - President for The Kings of Retribution MC, Louisiana Chapter. As a former Green Beret, he runs the club with the same amount of precision and grit he did serving his country. Dedicating years of his life to mercenary missions, and to his club left no time or desire to settle down and start a family of his own. What good could come of loving a woman if he could never promise her forever when he willingly puts his life on the line every day. No one has ever come close to making him want more. No one until Luna. A call from Jake; President and founder of The Kings of Retribution has Riggs and his men on the road toward Montana. Their objective - protect a woman from falling into the hands of another MC. Little did he know when his eyes fell upon the striking woman with violet eyes, she would alter his life forever.
Growing up in the system is hard enough for any kid. For Luna Novak, not being able to hear the world around her made surviving in it the most terrifying and isolating experience of her life. Though she doesn't have much, Luna feels she has finally gotten to a point in her life where her future doesn't look so grim. That is until she makes the mistake of putting her trust in the hands of the wrong man - almost costing Luna her life. For Luna to protect herself and survive, she must leave Arizona behind for a new life in Polson. When her past follows her, threatening the lives of those around her, Luna soon finds herself under the protection of the local MC. Leaving with Riggs and going back to Louisiana with him becomes her only choice. Her heart tells her Riggs will keep her safe, yet fear screams for her to run. The pull she feels toward Riggs is stronger than any feeling she has felt before, but can she put her trust and her life in the hands of another man so quickly?
I finished this book and I gave 3* which is I feel more than generous. Despite the fact that it’s not well written (to the point where it drove me nearly crazy at times). The plot has holes and it’s predictable. Despite all that I actually quite enjoyed this at times.
There’s a good book here trying to get out. Including some very likeable characters. Including both Riggs and Luna.
In my opinion (for what it’s worth) the plot needs tightening up, the writing needs to be sharper and it needs editing. It could be so much better. Getting the characters right is a main thing and that’s done. The story is good enough it just needs a little more. The potential is there.
I had Demetri marked to read but now I’m not sure.
#### When I posted this review on Amazon (UK) I noticed it had 14 reviews. Every single one of them was 5* 😳 WOW it’s not often you see that. I’m definitely swimming against the tide here. I thought my 3* was incredibly generous 🤷🏻♀️
If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I’ve got some stuff highlighted just in case, but, in a nutshell, it’s just poorly written. I don’t mean typos or grammatical errors, I mean the story is ridiculous.
So here we go : do we need to know the exact location of every piece of furniture in someone’s house ? No. Do we need to know every single thing a person does after waking up in the morning ? No. It’s not at all relevant to the story, to me, it’s purely for word count.
Here is this guy, who is a cold blooded murderer, shoots someone in the head all execution style. When he gets his hands on the F MC, with the intention of killing her, does he use a gun ? No. He dumps her body, does he check for a pulse ? No. What the hell kind of murderer is he ? How about this ? This murderer AND his brother are the ones who dump her body in the dessert right ? But only one gets arrested ??? Ummm, what ??? This whole part of the book could have been written soooo much better, because as it is, even though it’s fiction, it comes off as just absolutely dumb. Ok, moving on from that.
She goes into hiding correct ? Good. Now, that implies that oh I don’t know, she actually HIDES ?!? But nope, not in this book. People around her give her “proud looks” when she says she’s going out of the secure clubhouse. So of course, she gets attacked. Well duh !!! What were you expecting ? Again, another part of the book that could have been better written and STILL serve a purpose. Because as it stands, it just shows that she’s an idiot.
Here’s where I just had to stop the madness. I could not go on. There are so many well written MC books out there, that are not riddled with useless information - like the actual full code, all the numbers, to the security system. Yes, the author actually included that. With the insignificant details of where the M MC hangs his keys. Where the women are not complete morons. There is a way to have your book work around what you want to have happen and make it SMART. You need to form a situation that leads the F MC to go with the M MC ? Fine, how about an attack on the club because she’s being watched, as opposed to an attack on her because she’s an idiot and doesn’t understand the concept of hiding out ? What a change to have an intelligent female lead as opposed to one with no brains.
I really can’t imagine reading anything else by this author if this is her usual writing style. Common sense please.
Riggs was the first book in Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez’s The Kings of Retribution MC Louisiana, the spin off from their original Kings series.
We met Riggs and Luna previously in The Kings of Retribution MC series. Riggs was the President of the Louisiana chapter, former military, fierce, protective, loyal and had helped the original chapter out on numerous occasions. We met Luna in book seven, Prospect. She was deaf and was taken to a women’s shelter in Polson Montana to hide out while awaiting the trial of her ex boyfriend, where she witnessed a murder. The shelter was run by one of the MC’s Old Ladies so she fell under the protection of the MC where she met Riggs.
All of the above was part of the plot in Prospect; however, the authors did a great job recapping the details from the beginning and filling in gaps while providing the perspective from both Riggs and Luna. The authors then picked up where the last book left off taking us through the suspenseful plot and relationship development while also setting the stage for the new series by introducing the key players within the MC.
All in all, aside from the editing errors, it was a quick and enjoyable read. The secondary cast was diverse, humorous and entertaining and I can’t wait to see whose story is next.
What a great start to a new series of The Kings of Retribution MC-Louisiana! New setting, president and MC members so when The King's original founder, Jake from Polson, Montana needs helps protecting Luna Novak, he calls on Riggs with a quid pro quo of sorts. Abel LeBlanc road name, Riggs heading to Polson on a long, thirty-two hour motorcycle ride with a few of his loyal brothers and it's love at first sight for Riggs with a few commands that Luna doesn't like not one bit! When she runs and lands herself in more trouble with Sofia, Luna will do anything to protect her new friends so off she goes to hot and humid Cancun country. Sadly, Luna's ex, Rex whose President of Savage Outlaws MC is relentless and will stop at nothing until he has Luna back...even kill those in the line of fire!
"A storm is brewing, and it's not mother nature." -Abe
So, if you like The Kings of Retribution MC of Polson, Montana then you will most definitely enjoy Riggs and Luna's memorable story!
Whose story is next? Ladies man, Cain aka Nova (Rigg's twin brother), Kiwi, Fender or Wick? Tequila and Wick maybe????
Abel "Riggs" LeBlanc has been called in as a favor to the Kings of Retribution MC main chapter to help protect Luna Novak. Luna is a woman in hiding from her ex who she witnessed killing a man. When Riggs sees Luna, he knows he will do everything in his power to keep her safe. Luna finds herself falling for Riggs but the guilt she has for putting them in danger makes her anxious. Riggs though wants her to trust him and she quickly becomes the most important thing in his life.
Excellent, terrific kick off for a new series. I think this one was a bit grittier then the Montana series. Riggs is wowza, compliments Luna perfectly. Highly entertaining.
Riggs is book 1 in The Kings of Retribution MC Louisiana Chapter and it was a really enjoyable start. Luna and Riggs were awesome together, their chemistry was hot and I felt their connection from the start. I loved how protective Riggs was of Luna and although it was definitely love at first sight it didn't bother me at all how quickly their relationship escalated. I really enjoyed meeting a whole new set of guys and I'm looking forward to their stories.
So much suspense. So much more than their previous books. These authors have done it again and I couldn’t be happier. Loved this book. My grandma was full blooded Cajun so I felt at home at times. Can’t wait to see what’s to come. This was the first book any serious has died and it broke my heart. I’m on pins and needles waiting for the next release!!
DNF 30%—- this book was too detailed. It reads like an Instruction manual. The story was lost… and boring af. The premise was good if I could have found the characters in the haystack of useless drivel About the exact specifications of every room etc.
Due to the spelling, grammar, and scene continuation errors, I am glad that this book was free when I got it.. I now see that this book is also $4.99 regular price again. So if you're charging that price, then there needs to be a serious revamp/update on this book. If I had paid that price for this book, I would have been highly upset about it and returned it upon completion.. There's no excuse for this type of laziness in writing. Especially when you have TWO AUTHORS writing this story.
Had I purchased this book, my review would have been a 2🌟 rating for these issues alone, because it knocks you out of the flow of the story a bit.
Now, that being said, I really loved this story and the characters on these pages.. I cared about their plight, their love and their lives.
Riggs and Luna are just delicious together. And the dangers, especially how this story begins, really had my attention, and kept me here. I truly loved how this one turned out, especially, with how intense the last two chapters were.
What I wanted was some more happy joy grown folk cuddles, between Luna and Riggs though, at the end.. but oh well..
As far as overall spice here? I give this one 🌶🌶🌶 out of 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
And the very 1st sentence in this story had me laughing 😂 for 10 minutes. 🤣🤣🤣
With all the things I have mentioned above, I would still recommend this read.
I am still on the fence about if I want to read book 2, Wick's story.. I'm curious about him, just not the choice of his heroine and their history. But we'll see. Maybe I'll give it a go another time..🤔
I am no longer going to struggle through books poorly written in first person present tense. I'm only 10% into the book and have already noticed multiple verb tense errors, as well as a verb agreement error.
Then there was this gem of a paragraph:
"Standing, I stride across the room. I walk out of my bedroom door, into my living room and head for the kitchen. Dragging a mug from the cabinet, I power on the coffee maker, pop a coffee pod into the machine and push the button. While I wait for my coffee to brew, I fill a glass with water. Twisting the top off the medicine bottle sitting on the counter, I pop a pill in my mouth, then wash it down."
This got ridiculous fast. It took well into the book, over 25% before the H, Abel and h, even met! I was hoping this would be another new MC series, but I don’t have any real interest in watching for the rest of this series. It just didn’t have the magic. But, I did try another Mc by these authors just for the benefit of the doubt, and I didn’t feel any magic coming off of it either. For those who just boredom read and aren’t picky, you might like this okay. You should try it for yourself. I’m super picky. The heroine was a foster kid. She is dead and signs. Then the book picks up and she’s 26 and only been with one man as of three months ago, the other MC prez and bad guy. She has to move multiple times for safety since she witnessed his crimes. He beat her up along with his brother Pike. But let her live. Cause let’s face it, if he wanted her dead he would have shot her. Honestly, over the course of the book even though the bad guy was following her and even though the authors tried to make him sound like the villain, heck I was more interested wanting to hear about THEIR romance. It seemed like he wanted her more then the H even though it was made out like he wanted to hurt her. She meets hero, Abel, the president of this Mc who protects her. They fall in love. Heck, a ton of the beginning of the book is a scene with Abel in some other country saving trafficking victims with Wick, another club member. This wasn’t needed. A brief line or two that he did this sometimes would have been sufficient.
Riggs is such a hottie and a sweetheart but don't let anyone else besides Luna say that to him. This is is the spin off from Kings of Retribution original series. This is the Louisiana chapter so if you haven't already read the original series you might be a little lost here at first. You can read it even if you haven't read the others but it's better to read in order. Riggs is the president of this Chapter. He met Luna in the last series when the president called him in and asked him if he would hide her out with them. She is hiding from her ex and he has found her. There is a lot more to it besides him being her ex but not going to spoil it for you. She is deaf so that makes it even harder for her to know if she is in danger. Riggs fell for her at first sight. His mother was also deaf so he knows sign language which helps her feel better about him. After having one psycho MC President as a boyfriend who now wants her dead can she risk her heart with another MC President? I really enjoyed the first series and the start of the second. Guess that means I'm going on to the next book.
As always for what I read this book is for adults only
Five stars. Five hearts. Five fire flames. Five everything for Riggs and Luna! I am blown away by this story. Crystal and Sandy bring all the emotions to the table in this beautiful story filled with romance, action, suspense, steam, and a whole new batch of smoking hot bikers. Riggs in the President of The Kings of Retribution Louisiana Chapter and he steps up to the plate to help out Jake and the Kings from Polson. Riggs takes one look at Luna and falls hard and fast for her. Luna is facing a scary situation, but she stands strong and when push comes to shove, she proves to be a perfect Queen for this King. I cannot freaking wait for the next book!!
This is my first time reading this author duo so I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed some parts of it. It was interesting having a deaf h. I'm not familiar enough with this to know if it was done with accuracy. She was likable I expected her to have more insecurities because of said deafness, it was refreshing that she didn't. She seemed strong, I don't remember any eye rolling moments with her. The H was typical for a MC book, he wasn't a jerk monkey, he managed the balance between sweet/sincere and alpha. It was definitely an insta love kinda thing, which is ok. Good secondary characters, there were a few times I got a bit confused with all the people. It was obvious most of these characters would be known by readers familiar with the previous series, which was expected. There was one part of the plot I didn't see coming, the rest was fairly predictable which again is ok if done right. The writing seemed almost choppy at times, the flow just seemed off. There were editing, punctuation and for example, walking barefoot then having shoes on and formatting issues. Sentences stop and continue indented like it's the beginning of a new paragraph. (I think I got this book for free so I overlooked that part) . I mentioned this because I know for some those things are definite issues. It wasn't a bad book, like I said I did enjoy it, I will try more books from these authors. This is the first book in a new series. I'm not sure how many books are in this series or any previous series.
I thought the authors did a great job on this first in a series novel. It’s a solid 4 stars, but there were a few chapters/scenarios that were predictable that I was hoping they weren’t going to go there but they did. I appreciated the back story of Riggs and the Kings of Retribution MC group however the first 25% of the book dealt with his cause and her dilemma. I thought their initial reaction and chemistry was on point. I liked Riggs protective nature in general and towards Luna. She is a strong character despite her disability. I thought they worked together as partners. The ancillary storylines and characters were just as entertaining. They added to the story without taking over. I’m interested in reading about the others Kings.
This was so poorly written it was painful. I don’t mind the fact that it was predictable but as I’m reading it on my phone I find it ridiculous that I was 100 pages into the book and the main couple hadn’t even met yet. She’d often get attacked out of seemingly nowhere with zero build up and her insistence of not going along with what the people trying to protect her were saying in the name of independence pissed me off. Like YOU’RE IN DANGER. It got really annoying.
It’s really disappointing because I don’t see many books in this genre with main characters what disabilities like this (please give me recs of you have) so I had some high hopes.
Growing up in the system was difficult - even more so being deaf. But Luna is made of steel and has made the best of a bad situation. After she witnesses a murder and is then also murdered herself, she’s sent to stay with another MC for protection. Riggs agreed to help a friend but never expected her...
So cute! Luna is so sweet and caring considering how alone she has been her whole life. I love that shes able to connect with a family member and learn her story. Riggs makes so much possible for Luna. And he protects her with his life. Swoon.
A bit of this one is covered in Prospect, but it was interesting to get a deeper view of things and from Luna's point of view. You could tell that at first she wasn't happy to be exiled to NOLA, but by the time they made it from MT to LA, things had changed a bit. Riggs did a great job of introducing Luna to the club, letting them know how important she was to him, the same with his family. I also loved that all of Rigg's family knew how to sign, it made communication with Luna easier and a way for her to feel more welcomed and at home.
I didn't see Rex and his club finding Luna so quickly and for them to be so brutal in going after Luna. I was glad that Riggs and the guys were able to take care of business and the threat eliminated. Luna definitely deserves to have a happy life and she will do that with her growing family all around her!
I loved this first story in this new series by these authors... Riggs was amazing... I loved him and Luna together😍
Luna got involved with the wrong MC, the Savage Outlaws and then she saw something she shouldn't have. Her boyfriend, the president of the MC beat her and left her for dead along the road. But she survived and somehow ended up with the Kings of Retribution. But Jake called his fellow chapter in Louisiana to help them take. Are of her. And well when Riggs got a look at Luna he was a goner and from then she was totally protected😊😍
This book had action, drama, suspense and everything you would want in an awesome MC story. Luna even though she was deaf didn't let that stop her from being sassy and resilient😊 She definitely kept Riggs on his toes. I can't wait to read the next book in this new chapter 💖💖💖
What I liked: I liked how Luna(h) didn’t let her hearing loss or being shuffled from one foster home to another stop her from doing anything. She truly was a strong, kind hearted heroine. I also liked how Riggs(H) knew ASL.
What I didn’t like: It annoyed me how Riggs dropped Luna at his dad to keep her safe with just his dad and niece …. Wouldn’t she be the safest at the club where there is a safe room and all the brothers there. So of course guess what happens…..the bad guy gets her (big eye roll). I also wished we got to read what happened to the ow.
***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: h has a genetic disorder that caused hearing loss at the age of 4, h was physically abuse by the ex, sex trafficking mentioned. h sees her boyfriend (who is the president of a bad MC) murder a guy. When she runs, he gets her and beats her badly. He leaves her for dead on the side of the road. h is found and taken to the hospital where the cops are called. h is placed into a safe house while they wait for a court date. When h is found they place her in a different state at a different safe house. One of the ladies at the safe house is dating a guy that is part of a MC. When the bad guy finds her there, she goes to the MC club house. They call the H who just got back from a mission helping girls out that were kidnapped and being sold into sex trafficking. H is the president of a MC in a different state. H shows up and there is instant attraction. h is surprised when H starts communicating in ASL. H’s grandma also had hearing loss and that is how he knows ASL. h doesn’t want anyone else getting hurt and decides to go on her own. The bad guy’s brother kidnaps her and her friend. H and the other MC get them back. H takes h to his MC. When ow (ow has been waiting for the H to make her his old lady even though H has never been with her) causes some issues by telling the h to leave the H alone, ow is kicked out of the club. H and h start a relationship and he introduces her to his grandad. When H calls his old commander for help, they find out that he is actually the h’s father. h was put into foster care when she was a baby. Her dad didn’t know about her until he sees her with the H. When one of the brothers of the MC is killed they know that the bad guy found where the h is. H takes h to his grandfather’s house with his niece for safety. H finds out that the ow told the bad guy where the h was. The bad guy finds the h and beats up the grandfather. H and his club come when they are notified that the alarm was tripped at the grandfather’s house. H gets shot but kills the bad guy and his men. HEA with h pregnant and engaged.
Descriptive Sex: Yes
Final thoughts: This was just an ok read for me. I haven’t decided if I’m going to read more in this series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Just when I think I can’t love the Kings anymore Sandy and Crystal go and give us the Louisiana chapter. I think Riggs just may be one of my favorite books from these two ladies to date. There’s the deep familial connections, that bond of brotherhood, grit and sweetness in equal amounts, heat, action...the list goes on and on when it comes to everything contained in this book. I swear this had me so hooked I probably didn’t so much as blink while I was reading. Riggs like most Kings men is a magnificent mix of swoony sexiness and bad@#$ biker. The instant attraction he has to Luna is made all the more beautiful by his gentleness when it comes to her. I love how he fully recognizes her strength but still handles her with just the right amount of care as she learns to trust him. All the heat between them was amazing, but that is what really stood out to me and made me absolutely adore Riggs. Luna is someone I already had a soft spot for before I started reading this. We kind of see the beginnings of her and Riggs’ story in Prospect so I knew going in I was going to love her and those feelings never changed. She’s been through so much in her life yet continues on with a quiet strength and a loving heart. I don’t think there’s been a character I’ve ever been more happy to see get their well deserved HEA than her. These two obviously stole my heart and their story has left me both happy sighing and completely desperate for more from the Louisiana bikers!
this story line has been written over and over again. I enjoyed reading it but same old story. One problem I did come across is the authors can't do math very well. In Chapter 12, Neil is telling the story of Amelia, she was 20 when they got together for a couple months, he left and came back 18 months later and she was dead - died from complications of childbirth - 26 years ago, but in Chapter 14, Luna is only 22 years old.... you do the math.....
Explanation of how Rex found her in Montana - but how did he find her in Louisiana? The Kings were the only ones who knew where she was....
too many inconsistencies in the story. Wish the authors would pay attention to what they publish before asking readers to pay for it...
DNF 25% I’m sure the story itself was ok but the writing style was poor.
Is it possible for a book to go too fast and too slow at the same time? I swear there were several irrelevant scenes which included pointless detail such as moment by moment detail about the characters irrelevant movements in the morning. Get to the story already.
That’s the slow part, the fast part is the short irrelevant scenes that jump from place to place.
At 25% the character hadn’t met yet, in fact it felt like the story started at the 25% mark and I was already bored and annoyed.
The author also does a lot of telling instead of showing. Eg. ‘I’m afraid’ vs my body shakes, my eyes blur with water.
This was really amazing! I adored how this had such a detailed past and plot. It wasn't just about Riggs and Luna's romance; it was also about how they developed as a couple and helped one another out. By the way, despite the fact that I despise Rex so much, I adore how protective Riggs was of Luna. I cried a lot over the last two chapters, but overall, it was fantastic. I can guarantee you that this book is a terrific read and will elicit a wide range of positive emotions in you.
3.5 STARS This is a NEW to me author and books, what got me interested was the blurb, and the fact that I love MC Romance, was one of the very first genres I read. That said, unfortunately I could not connect with this one. I had a little bit of a hard start, the hero an heroine do not meet until almost 30% and to me it got a little slow waiting for that. When they do meet it's a sweet altercation but then right off the bat it jumps into an action scene that ends with the hero and heroine having so much familiarity towards one another and affection, when they met once and for a brief time. It kind of went downhill from me, I felt a little thrown here there in the theme of the story. In the end I just could not connect with anything and that is where my conclusion of the stars came from. I was very excited to read like I said because MC Romance is a top top favorite. Best of luck to the author!
Poorly Written! 30% unessecary background before characters even meet
Boring! Way too much tedious filler and scenes that had nothing to di wurg the story. Like the huge scene where the hero is a solider helping save human trafficked victims. But then we get the heroine's story where she meets several biker members all 9f whom aren't the hero, before they actually, finally met at 30%. That's way too much unnecessary background.
The writing style was basic, just a lot of lists of actions, "I did this, I did that, then I did this". Here's an example taken from the book, "I stride across the room, I walk out of my bedroom door, I walk into my living room and head for the kitchen, dragging a mug from the cabinet, I power on the coffee maker, pop a coffee pod into the machine and push the button. While I wait I fill a glass of water..."
I don't want to waste my time having to read a list of daily task the character does. Especially when the important things aren't even mentioned. Including no character depth or detail to the romance. He calls her his woman after seeing her fir a minute, literally a minute after seeing her. I was also ready to throw my kindle away at all the 'brother this' and 'brother that' and 'brother, brother, brother', grrr! I get it, they're mc brothers! There's no need to hit us over the head with the word every second.
There are so many plot holes, inconsistencies and mistakes. Like in chapter 14, Luna's mother was twenty when she got pregnant yet she died in child birth having Luna when she was twenty six?! Yeah that math doesn't work, it would mean she was pregnant with Luna for six years?! Hate when authors can't get their own basic facts right over just pages.
The story itself was too contrived and too much of the same thing happening over and over. She was attacked by her biker boyfriend and hunted by his biker MC, she had to be moved from the hospital to a safe house, then she's attacked there, so moved to another safe house with a biker mc protecting her, then she is attacked there, again, and has to be moved on yet again to a different safe house, with a different biker MC protecting her. Again. Where she finally, finally, meets the hero. Just seriously lacking, boring and cliche. A tedious repeat of a story that's been told hundreds of times already. I dint mind cliche, but it needs to be better written.
I really tried to push through because it had so much potential. The suspense that could have been jusy wasn’t there for me. The two MC don’t actually meet until 30%. I honestly though it’d never happen.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when there’s almost no contractions (I am- I’m). I don’t mind it every so often but it was close to every time they talked. I feel like people don’t talk like that in real life.
Not too keen on the style of writing plus it needs better editing. Parts of the story doesn't flow and you need to re-read to understand what's happening. The storyline is a bit predictable and there isn't a lot of depth to the characters, who also seem to be a bit dim.
