Filthy Beautiful

Rate this book
It’s forbidden... but that just makes it hotter.

Courteney Clarke is the kind of girl who rock stars like me write songs about.

She’s beautiful, but she's totally off-limits.
Because she’s my best friend’s little sister.

Now she tells me she’s a virgin—and she wants me to be her first.
But she’s just f*cking with me. I know she is.
She just hates me that much.

She knows her brother would freak if I touched her.

And if she plans to keep putting it in my face so I’ll give in… we’re both in a world of trouble.
This is cold war, but I’m not giving in.
Problem is, neither is she.

I know I need to do the right thing here…
But the wrong thing might just be way too filthy to resist.

Filthy Beautiful is the second full-length novel in the Players rockstar romance series, and the tenth book in the Dirty/Players series world.

I never do this but it's so glaringly problematic that I'm still angry about it.

No means no. Period. The end. Authors have a responsibility to promote consent. (edited because I wasn't very eloquent the first time I posted this.)

When Xander said, If you were the guy and I were the girl, and I was saying no-- and Courtney says, we'll we're not so-- I had to stop reading. Just because the genders are reversed doesn't mean that it's not rape. I'm so disappointed that this was romanticized into being okay. It was gross.

Beyond the obvious, the maturity level of our heroine is appalling, and I found myself more curious about Cary than anything that the main characters were up to.

I expected more from this book because the other books by Ms. Diamond have been so good. :(

Oh, man, I had such high hopes for this book. I love Jaine Diamond’s other books because they combine drama with genuine attraction and superb sex.

This one? I just didn’t feel it. My head was spinning with the back-and-forth between Xander and Courteney, to the point where her being 18 and him being 30 wasn’t even the biggest issue of the book — it was Courteney being an immature, ungrateful, self-absorbed girl with equally immature, self-absorbed friends, who were wholly unnecessary to the story.

He pisses her off. She walks out. She pisses him off. He walks out. I never even got the impression that they cared for each other, let alone were attracted. His caveman routine is sexist and borderline abusive.

I was far more interested in poor Cary than any other character in the book, and I really hope his story comes soon.

I get that these books are ultimately meant to be a good time, nothing to take too seriously, but this one was another let down in the dirty/players series.

18 year old Courteney acted just like an 18 year old would, so I can’t fault her character for that. A 12 year age gap at that time in your life is a huge deal and I’m not judging relationships with age gaps or making generalizations but in no way was I buying that she and Xander could make it work.

Also can we not with the forbidden fruit 18 year old virginal white angel thing? So cringe.

The pacing was all off in this book too, so when our characters finally admitted their love for each other it felt off and I wasn’t invested at all. Courteney was so childish throughout most all of the book and I’m supposed to believe that a grown ass man just deeply loved that?!

I did like Xander but we didn’t get to go deep enough with him which is a bummer because the bones were there. He made me laugh, JD is good at injecting humour into these rock gods, but I feel like I still know nothing about him.

I recieved this book as part of the ARC team.

I wish there was a ten star. I really didn't know what to expect after the snippets of Xander. He didn't seem like a character I would fall for and become invested in his story but my god was I wrong. He is probably my favourite now topping my affection for Brody and Ash.

This book has hidden depths and an undercurrent of tradegdy I was not expecting from it and not the classic rockstar tradegdy. It looks at grief and hope and love and connections and to top it off is a forbidden brothers best friend story. OMG!

It is so well planned and I'm hoping it has leads to the other stories Jaine will write later on I would love books for Carey, Dean and Jo and we know Summers book is coming and I cannot wait.

Well done this is another amazing book that I could no put down. Time for a Reread!!!

Ms. Diamond has done it again ... another great read of the second book in this off shoot series. Good story line that flowed smoothly, was easy to read and captured this reader's attention. I started this novel last night and finished it off this evening. There were enticing characters that made it difficult to leave the book alone and go to bed at a reasonable hour. The characterizations are many, varied and the key characters had life challenges that were relatable.

Great read. Highly recommended for romance reader's who have a fondness for musicians.

I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel from the author and am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to this author.

Filthy Beautiful is the second book in the Players series which is a spin-off of the Dirty series. It can be read as standalone but I do recommend reading Hot Mess since it’s Ash’s story and well, I love him. It also around the same timeline. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will make this fast. Maybe.

Courteney wanted to be seen. She wants to fit. She hasn’t really been seen by anyone since she was fourteen. Since tragedy struck. And now, she was eighteen, a high school graduate and new assistant to her music producer brother, Cary. She was trying to find her way and right now it was towards Cary’s poolhouse, her new home. That was until he walked in. Xander Rush. Rock star drummer. Brother’s best friend. She hated him. She hated his manwhoring ways. What she hated the most? She wanted to be seen by him. Only him.

Xander needed to stay clear of Courteney Clarke. She looked like an angel but she was trouble. He was at Cary’s for Cary not for his little sister even if she wasn’t so little anymore. She was beautiful. And she was so off-limits it wasn’t even funny. Her brother told him to stay out of her way but it seems she didn’t get the same speech about him. She hated him. She told him so anytime they were in the same room but actions speak louder than words. And when she tells him she is a virgin and she wants him to be her first?

Yep! He was so fucked.

Damn...this book was awesome!! I loved the characters. Courteney might only be eighteen but she was a very mature eighteen. She had to grow up fast and didn’t even hang out with friends her own age. Xander is older but not by much and at times he definitely acted younger. Men. Together, their story is full of sexual tension, angst, banter and all the feels. I can’t wait for the next book!

Quotes:

“I’m not afraid of you,” I repeated, breaking the silence.
“Maybe you should be.” His voice was low and dark, and there was a warning in his words.

“I know you think you’re doing the right thing,” she said softly, looking up into my eyes. “But it doesn’t feel right. Does it?”

“You are such a fucking child.”
“You are such a fucking pig!”

I definitely have mixed feelings about this book. If a guy had treated a girl the way Courteney treats Xander in this book, it would be forced s*xual coercion, he would be a low life and a predator. When a woman does it, she exerts her s*xuality, she is a strong and powerful woman, she is to be held up. Wrong is wrong. No is no. No matter the gender of the person saying it.

Xander knows it is wrong. She is barely 18 he is in his 30s. He watched her grow up. She is his best friend's little sister. He does everything to resist. She does everything to pursue.

60% of this book is Courteney actively trying to lose her virginity to Xander. She sends him photos, climbs half naked into his bed at night, and shows up at his house begging him to F her when she should be sleeping yelling dirty things into his speaker till he buzzes her in so his neighbors don't think he's a deviant.

They do end up together. I guess it was a HEA. He lost his best friend through all of it. Not sue how I feel about this read.

After reading Dirty Like Me I was ready to dive back into the rock star world Jaine Diamond created.

Other than mentioning the band and practicing his drums, the rock star scene was completely missing from this story. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was not a super immature spoiled brat trying to seduce a 30 year old man after he repeatedly turned her down. I have no issue with age gaps, but when the younger of the two acts like a 16 year old child and the older one is emotionally immature himself... it doesn't make for a great read.

There was never any real substance to this story. It basically consists of them hanging around the reclusive brothers house and playing cat and mouse, and occasionally at a club where he drags her out and takes her home. It was a really long and drawn out book for such a bland story. You could probably cut out half the inner dialogue from both main characters and be done with the book faster without missing anything.

After loving Dirty Like Me, this one was really disappointing.

Love love this book! Did I say I loved it! Because I did! This is the next book in the players series after Ashley’s book hot mess and is about Xander. After reading the small snippet at the end of Ashley’s book I couldn’t wait for this story and it did not disappoint, so so so many feels. Loved Courtney and Xanders connection and the pull and push of their feelings. Loved getting to hear about all our beloved characters from dirty! This book is a must read! Jaine never disappoints, now we have to wait patiently for Summers book! ❤️❤️

Xander Rush and Courteney Clarke give a whole new definition to the word anticipation.
Jaine Diamond does it again! Enraptured your mind and heart with two amazing characters and a great, relatable plot!
The Players Series has a lot to live up to compared to The Dirty Series, and Jaine Diamond delivers in 'Filthy Beautiful'.
This book is one I didn't want to put down, and I didn't! I read this book well into the night and barely put it down to eat. It's an enthralling story about a rockstar you kinda know, and you'll definitely fall in love with!

Jaine never disappoints. Another spectacular read. I love the strong women in these books and the men they love. It takes Xander a while to understand sometimes the right thing to do is love who you love and know it’s ok to be loved in return. It’s also understood by both that Cary has to fix Cary and until he is ready to fix himself, no one will be able to help. So many feels from this book. Great work! So excited for Summer’s story.

Hmmmm

I'm confused about this one. I'll be honest, Courtney came across as childish, I know more mature 18 year olds. Her constant whining to her friends was irritating. Also, the constant back and forth and rehashing of the same old issue ad-nauseam got old really fast. Like one of the other reviewers, I too wondered if J. Diamond actually wrote this one. It didn't have her vibe and came across as juvenile.

It was another decadent read! Jaine knows how to tell a story that pulls you right in. Forbidden love is oh so sweet. The Dirty series and all the characters were amazing... This next chapter featuring The Players is even juicier! I wasn’t able to put it down. I am excited for the next book already!!!

Jaine Diamond swept me into her 'Dirty' rockstar series world from the very beginning. I've devoured all her books and loved those rocking hero's like the stars they are...unforgettable!

So now, she's spun us into a new connected, exciting rockstar series, Players, beginning with Hot Mess (if you want to read that one, I absolutely loved it). This book, Filthy Beautiful, book 2, could stand alone and you might even spot a few familiar faces along the way...don't you love when that happens!!!

This gorgeous cover grabbed me the moment I saw it, but the story inside melted my heart. Courtney Clarke has worshipped her older brothers friend and former bandmate, sexy drummer, Xander Rush, from afar for so many years of her young life, it's almost embarrassing. She thinks he doesn't 'see' her the way she wishes he would but...wrong! He sees too much, confused by his attraction to her, his best friend, Cary's baby sister who is 12 years younger but sure is grown up now! Courtney is wiser than her years in one way and exactly the 18 year old young woman she actually is in others. Xander is a playboy rockstar with women falling at his feet, so why then does he just keep seeing Courtney in his head? He doesn't have a clue on how to act around a young innocent woman like her, but those thoughts and dreams keep messing with his mind and heart.

Courtney's brother Cary (I'm so curious about him!) isn't really present and hasn't been for 4 years. A tragic accident has him still hiding away from the outside world, leaving Courtney bewildered, living in his home but feeling so alone. Zander, now back from his tour, is living in the pool house, trying to be there for his friend while being so temptingly close to Courtney, contemplating a future with a newly forming band.

Watching Courtney and Xander circling around each other was exciting, frustrating and wildly sexy. They had the hate/love thing perfected. She had plans for him and what fun it was to watch Xander squirm as she attempts to implement them.

Do you love a hot rockstar romance as much as I do? Jaine has this genre perfected and this book had everything you could want in a forbidden, angst and temptation riddled romance! The supporting characters cracked me up much of the time, adding some spicey fun to the story here and there.

Towards the end, a glimpse of what's to come next is revealed...bring on those Players, Jaine, the sooner the better! I highly recommend this author, these connected series and this book.

My thanks to the author for this advanced copy to read, enjoy and love. This is my unbiased review of it.

I *thought* I could read this book in chunks in between work. I was wrong. As with all of Jaine's books, I couldn't put this one down.

I absolutely LOVE a broken hero. The moment when the hero realizes he’s broken and that the heroine is what will fix him is my favorite part of any story, and this one might be my favorite since Deeper. Xander’s transformation is funny and sweet and emotional and amazing.

And let’s not forget Courteney. She’s figuring things out, too. And they do a sort of role reversal that had me fist-pumping the air! I love a girl who knows what she wants and goes for it. I wish I had more of that in me.

Courteney’s friends - I hope we see a lot more of them! I can’t wait until we actually get on tour and everyone is together!!!

And the underlying story. Not at all what I was expecting. This isn’t your standard rock star romance. This is the underbelly. This is the broken side of rock stars that you don’t hear about. It was touching, heart-breaking, beautiful.

And the epilogue with Summer!!! Eeek! I cannot WAIT for her book, and am SO excited for who her hero is!!!!!!!!!

“He makes me feel electric. There’s this electricity between us… Like everything in me comes awake when he’s there. It’s automatic and chemical and totally unstoppable.” This pretty much sums it up. OH, also, HOTTEST s e x y times ever!

Jaine Diamond’s back with the second book from her Players series, giving us readers an insight into these gorgeous rockstars and their life’s, in this case it’s the turn of sexy Xander Rush with his filthy mouth, he’s being led down the road of temptation by his best friends little sister Courteney Clarke, she’s always loved Xander from afar however she’s now making it her mission to seduce him into taking her virginity. As much as Xander tries to resist his little temptress he can’t keep away from her and the pair dance around one another, talk about anticipation, never mind them I was on edge but the wait was worth it, when these two finally come 😉 together it’s truly ℱ𝒾𝓁𝓉𝒽𝓎 ℬℯ𝒶𝓊𝓉𝒾𝒻𝓊𝓁.

This was not only about forbidden love, there was loss and grief, not only for the dead the living were just as affected to. I honestly can’t remember much of Xander before this book but I guarantee you I won’t be forgetting him anytime soon, damn that man was Hot, Hot, Hot.

I absolutely loved The Dirty series and all of its characters, The Players is shaping up to be just as amazing and judging by the wee teaser we got from Summer’s Story it’s going to keep getting better and better.

Breaking the Bro Code

Cary Clark had warned his best friend and ex bandmate Xander away from his sister Courteney but Courteney had other ideas. She had just turned eighteen and Xander had just come off from touring with Steel Trapt and the temptation was right in his face because he was living in Cary’s mansion and Courteney had just moved in as well to help keep an eye on her brother who had become anti-social since his friend and bandmate, Gabe died.

The stage is set for one hot little, heavily anticipated romance rock star read. Yes, Xander was the manwhore of the bunch and after not seeing Courteney for a few years was shocked at how much of a beautiful woman she had become but new he couldn’t touch that. Courteney wasn’t sure how to get Xander to take her attraction to him seriously. It was a real power struggle within him to see if Xander could really fight what he felt for Courteney.

As with all of Ms. Diamond’s books this one pulled me in, and kept me on the edge wondering if and when someone was going to break all the while fanning myself. Lol I can’t wait for Summer’s book next!!

This book just wasn’t my cup of tea. “Best friends virgin 18 yr old sister, barely of age trope” is a tough one to hit the mark on. All of Jaines books are fun reads and not taken too literally and typically have some depth to keep you intrigued.

But I almost didn’t finish this book because it missed the mark on everything including the personalities of her main characters and made it insufferable at moments.

Also “no means no.” Man or woman. You have an immature 18yr old trying to seduce a 31yr old who repeatedly turns her down….ick.

Hopefully summers book redeems this one

DNF.... went to about 70%, right when I thought it would get good, it went waaaayyyyy south for me. This is when they finally have sex. (That was fine) The next morning was a train wreck. WHY, WHY make the female character into some whiny 13 year old girl. It was so annoying to read. I was yelling in my head for the male character to run so far away from this girl and never look back.

*I received this book free from the author.*

Courteney is outspoken when she wants something, she's super over protective when it comes to her brother, and she's hopelessly in love with Xander. She's only eighteen, but I loved her character. I liked how she was the one who acted more adult than he did.

"There was something...undone between the two of us. Something unfinished. Something that could never be done or finished, because it couldn't be."

Xander is a drummer. He's been in a few bands that have had good runs, but now he's joined the Players and he's getting ready for something new. But he has a few months of absolutely nothing and for some reason he wants to spend that time with his best friend, who is a recluse and who he hardly ever actually sees. However, his best friends baby sister....she sure catches his eye. He hasn't been able to get her off his mind since he saw her a couple years prior at a party and didn't recognize her. Now she's temptation wrapped in itty bitty bikinis.

"I stared at the little triangle of white fabric covering her a**. Make that barely covering her a**. I may have drooled a little bit."

Filthy Beautiful takes the risque scenario of older man, younger best friend's sister, and turns it into exactly what the title says...filthy beautiful. The characters leapt from the pages and I thoroughly enjoyed reading every single page.

I would like for Courteney's brother to find someone to bring him back into reality, but not sure that'll be in this series. Maybe a little novella...hint...hint. Until then it looks like DJ Summer in book three, Sweet Temptation, may just find herself a little extra security.

So far the Players series is just as wonderful as its predecessor the Dirty series. Oh, and just as HOT! I'm looking forward to many more amazing books from Jaine.

4.5 Stars - SLOW SLOW SLOW BURN!!

I have wanted to get to the bottom of what is Xander after we got a taste of him in Ashley Player's book. I will warn you this this book is a very SLOW, SLOW, SLOW BURN and that it will leave you reading chapter after chapter. Jamie Diamond gives us the chance to see the burn from the perspective of both Xander and Courtney which is a favorite of mine. It becomes evident pretty quickly that the heat level between these two if off the charts, but can they overcome the obstacles around them?? Xander knows he needs to head the warning his best friend Cary set, but when Courtney is no longer the little sister it becomes evident that is a serious challenge. Courtney knows she will always be the little sister, but Xander is the only one that really sees her.

I thought we would have more of the actually Players band, but this was really about the personal growth of Xander. This story really makes you realize how everyone reacts differently to the lose of a close friend. The loss of Gabe really aligns the connection for both Xander and Courtney. They both knew they needed to pull Cary from the depth of his sorrow after losing Gabe, but it becomes as the years pass that they have honestly lost Cary too. This really impacts Xander and Courtney in different ways and also drives them towards one another. Watching Xander struggle with his feelings for Courtney made me want to push him in the balls a few times. It was also really a struggle to see how isolated Cary kept himself from both his sister and best friend. I would love to know more about him even if he isn't a member of The Players. I want so much more from this entire cast of characters........and I know that Summer is going to deliver quite the adventure!!

Yet again another amazing story writing by Jaine. This love story is not your typical Older man/younger woman (Xander 30, Courtney 18) nor the usual best friend's sister writing formula that we are use to reading. I feel like this story deals with some pretty deep issues of loss and self worth. Xander and Courtney are dealing with the loss of a 2 close love ones (one in death, one to depression) at the same time struggling with their own feelings of abandonment, self worth and overall their perception of how they feel their peers see them to be. Through all of this they have this undeniable attraction, chemistry that keeps pulling them together despite everything. Their journey to finally accepting themselves and their love for each other is something that will wrap you up and leave you not wanting to put down this book because you are just waiting for the come to Jesus moment when they finally give in and stop fighting.

Coming off of the successful Dirty series and jumping right into the Players series I wasn't sure if I could love my book boyfriends as much as the Dirty men but boy I was wrong. This series is just continuing Jaine's line up of unbelievalby sexy men with a hard exterior and a heart of gold. Also in true Jaine fashion she leaves us with a quick looksie into Summer's story, teasing us with what's to come in the next book of the series. To say I'm anxiously awaiting this next story is an understatement. Again another grand slam out of the ball park. It's a must read. You won't be disappointed.

Left with more questions then answers

This is my first time reading a book by this author. I appreciated the little note at the beginning that talked about it being a part of a series but also a standalone. Normally, I would have started at the beginning but I was enthralled by an excerpt I had read and pushed forward.

I really liked Xander and Courteney and their back and forth made sense to me due to their age gap and his relationship with her brother.

What I did not like was a lot of the story not being fleshed out or resolved. How did Gabe die? Why did it make Cary a recluse? Did Cary & Courteney's resolve any of their issues? Etc. Then I figured okay, Cary's book must be next to resolve all these issues...nope, it's Summer's. So, then I figured okay maybe a lot of these questions were answered in previous books and I should go back to the beginning. After reading a few reviews I find out that's not the case and Xander is a new character to this series. Now I'm frustrated and irritated because I feel like I'm missing so much to this story that would have pulled it all together.

As a side note I have read series out of order before but usually it makes me want to go back and read the entire series because I love the world and all the characters. This was not the case this time. There are a lot do characters in this (too many, if you ask me) but not one of them kept off the pages and screamed "you have to read my book!!" so I think I'm going to pass on going back and starting at the beginning.

It breaks my heart to give any book from the “Dirty” world less than 5 stars, every other book has been exceptional but this one just didn’t sit comfortably with me... to the point that it has taken me over 3 months to push through till the end.
It’s not so much her age, (I’m in the uk and the age of consent is 16 and the legal drinking age is 18) or even their age gap, it’s the constant referral to her being ‘illegal’ reference to her drinking age but mixed in with sex and the fact that she has fantasised over him since she was 14 and felt shunned by her parents and brother - she pretty much admits that later in the book which makes me feel like her obsession with him is more about her switching that craving for her parents to want her over to the only other caring adult that has been in her life since she was young. Then there is her constant refusal to accept him saying no, she forces herself on him several times, like it’s perfectly acceptable because she’s a young woman and he’s an older man... it’s not ok, ever!!!! It’s just all a bit too messed up and left me feeling, no pun intended, a little bit dirty.
However as always, the writing is excellent, the introduction of new characters thorough and it does become a less uncomfortable read towards the end of the book.
