I stumbled upon Lana Sky upon a whim and I’m so glad I decided to go into her War of Roses trilogy blindly. I can’t believe I have only just now discovered Lana, I know someone slap me. This series broke my heart, I can’t count the number of times I had to put my kindle down to wipe at my eyes. I was completely blown away by Lana’s writing and her characters. They were so intense and real. So many emotions punched me in the gut at once. I fell in love with these characters and I smiled, and laughed, and cried, and even now as I’m writing this review my eyes are watery **sniff**. But I have to say this The War of Roses Trilogy is BRUTAL, HORRIFIC and CRUEL. Be prepared to meet your maker!

From a young age Ellen Winthrop has been beaten, abused, raped and scarred by her husband who keeps her locked and caged. A bird without its wings. But one day she is mistakenly kidnapped for her half sister and Ellen finds herself between a long blood war and marked as the fifteenth martyr.

Mischa Stepanov, former Pakhan to the Russian Mafiya. Vengeance is the only thing on his mind when it comes to taking down the Winthrop family one by one. He does unspeakable things to Ellen without a blink of an eye. He’s cold and ruthless but beneath the surface we see glimpses of a broken man longing for love and acceptance.

The amount of trauma Ellen endures at not only Mischa’s hands but his enemies due to the fact they see he finally has a weakness. . . and in the world of the Mafiya having a weakness is a deadly weapon.

Ellen & Mischa’s relationship take root until book three. He has freed the bird from her cage and given her wings and let her fly. And to see him finally him actually admit he has fallen for her made my heart weep with joy.

This series is a must read. It’s just remarkable, exceptional, and completely extraordinary. Be prepared to feel. Be prepared to hurt, to cry, to be moved beyond belief, to have your heart stop and to be consumed by this gorgeous and enthralling story. It’s been days since I’ve read and my heart still feels for these two. It’s an unforgettable read that I loved from start to finish!

I read it a while back and have been scraping up enough energy to write a review. Suffice to say, I still haven't found the mystical well with that energy source.
So, keeping it short but not necessarily sweet:

-The writing style was truly beautiful....to the point I would want to write like this author. I fell in love with the way she portrayed conflicting stuff so stunningly with her words.

-It was good in the beginning, Mischa was a crazy and powerful, drunk on his power, having a sort of superior villain complex, mafia pakhan. His most favourite words tp utter were "Get up" (idk whether to laugh, cry or facepalm lol)

-Ellen, aka Little Rose, was a brainwashed victim of domestic abuse who loved her abuser ( her husband, the sad little fuck, but highly effective in villainous works....even more so than Mischa lol....I had more respect for him as a bad guy🙌😂). This author portrayed the effects of domestic abuse on a person much much better than any I've read till date.

-My main problem was that there was no fucking character development. Mischa remained the aloof but slightly pathetic in his villain complex, character, and Ellen remained the battered doormat victim during the whole of 3 books. They didn't change or evolve....or even fucking devolve at any point. Change damnit!

-As the plot progressed, upto the mid of book 2, I couldn't bear their unchanging personalities. Ellen appeared just a doormat to me and Mischa, just a guy on a power trip. Even their chemistry went dry af.

So I wouldn't rec this. But I would try other Lana Sky's book cuz I have some lingering hope lent by her beautiful writing style.

This one is dark. No true 'good guys' just morally challenged to true evil. I've marked this as romance since it contains an HEA, but there is a definite 'Stockholm syndrome' aspect to the 'love affair'.

It’s funny how tastes evolve. I really didn’t take to this book this read but somehow gave it 4 stars in 2020.

I hated Mischa. He kidnapped the wrong girl, Ellen, the FMC. He was angry and irrational and unappealing. He was willing to whore her out for money. He took what he wanted from her multiple times (I counted 8 and I’m barely halfway) and also hit her regularly. How NOT cool.

I didn’t understand Ellen’s self mutilation although I admit I was starting to skim by this point.

The only parts I liked were

-how smart she was with the money- knowing if something was counterfeit.

- and Robert- her sick husband who hurt her through his games but would kill and even trade his sister and kill his family to get her back. HIM, I liked.

I hated Ellen’s simpering with respect to her sister, Briar, who was a total bitch. She was the reason Ellen got kidnapped in the first place and treated Ellen like crap. Grow a backbone!

So completely done with this. Lana Sky is a hit or miss for me so might try another series by her that I’ve liked in the past. She does have some good ones- I’ve read at least 3 that I really enjoyed but who knows? I liked this one too.

Review for Book One:

This book has me feeling many different things. I could not put the book down and finished in 6 hours, now getting ready to dive into book 2. There is definitely no HEA, and I read reviews so I warned myself because I love my HEA’s! I have a feeling though that Ellen will get that, at least I can hope.

Let’s talk about our heroine Ellen. She reminds me of Cinderella but not with happing ending and a lot of abuse. Her mother is married to the mafia Robert Sr., who has an older son from a previous marriage, Robert. Ellen’s father is unknown and we don’t know the story of her Mother, Marnie and how she conceived Ellen. Ellen has an older half sister, Briar, who is Marnie’s and Robert Sr. daughter. Robert Sr. basically let Marnie keep Ellen but she’s more like an outcast, she’s kept where the servants live and her mother is not allowed to acknowledge her, she’s also basically her sisters keep, and companion but I feel that’s to nice of word to use. Marnie does die when the girls were young. Later we found out that Robert has a very dark side and physically marks Ellen. He was always protective of Ellen when she was a child, was that bc he was waiting until she became of age so he could keep her for himself?? There is a surprise twist there that I wasn’t expecting but I’m not going to give that away (wink). Ellen is kidnapped by Mischa and mistaken for her sister Briar. Our dear anti-hero Mischa is very abusive towards Ellen, but Ellen can take it. He wants information from her so his allowed her to live a little longer, but deep down he drawn to her, but I don’t think he understands why and it confuses him so he’ll lash out with her. But he has a story of his own and he had to suffer at the hands of the Winthrop’s, and he wants revenge and Ellen is his way out of the aggression he has deep inside.

Any-who I’m going to stop here and get started in book 2!

Review Book 2:

Little Rose

I have read book one and two in two days! I couldn’t put either book down and looking forward to reading the last book in the series. My review for book one is lengthy and I’ll leave this one short! I really hope that little Rose finds her Happy Ever After! She’s been through a lot that’s all I’m gonna say on this topic.

Review Book 3:

Our Little Rose 🌹finally got her well deserved HEA
I highly recommend this series. The story was very well written. I have to admit the first book was hard to read without you wanting to revenge of our poor Rose and how she was treated. All three books were packed with action and steamy romance. The series was definitely an attention grabber from beginning to end.

XV Review:

This is a very dark psychological drama that thrills with its deeply emotional look at revenge and family secrets. It reels you in immediately, and demands that you stay vigilant as these strongly written characters go head to head in a century old blood feud.

Ellen is one of the Winthrop daughters, hidden away from most of the world. She is kidnapped by the brutal Mischa, who thinks she's her sister Briar. And this is where the true fight begins. Mischa is unpredictable and violent...But he underestimates Ellen's strength. He tried hard to break her down, but fails. She has already been through her own hell, and Mischa can't penetrate that mindset. Ellen starts to compare the two monsters while trying to understand why it's all happening.

"Which is worse? To be used slowly and sparingly? Or to be chewed and swallowed alive?"

Ellen starts to find solace in Mischa's care, no matter how hard it is for her to comprehend it. This fuels a strange obsession between Ellen and Mischa.

"And I wake up knowing what true hell is. It’s not the measured cruelty Robert dished out. It’s not fearful memories or repulsive scars. It’s peace— being able to find it, even for a second, while in the arms of a monster. What a terrible power to lord over someone."

The story ramps up the tension until it finally pops. And it's a riveting journey to read about. I do wish there was more reveal during the first half, but the writing is excellent and anxiety inducing...exactly how this author undoubtedly wants. Now my anxiety demands more. Book two is coming soon.

VII Review:

This is a true psychological drama, where the dialogue is what matters the most in the story. We catch up with Ellen and Mischa, and Ellen is dragged even deeper into Mischa's mafia world. Mischa is an enigma...he keeps Ellen on her toes with information that may or may not be the truth.

I was riveted by the scenes between the two lovers...or are they enemies? It's not very clear for a while. What is clear is that Mischa has an agenda, and Ellen 's role may not be accidental. Perhaps the fact that Mischa kidnapped her instead of her sister was part of the plan? Reading the scenes is like watching a well oiled play on stage. Both Ellen and Mischa are using all they can in their mental warfare.

Ellen starts to discover secrets, and it helps her understand Mischa's unstable anger. She is slowly leaving her old violent life behind while she falls for Mischa's softer side. The problem is, can his softer side prevail over his monster side? How does Mischa reconcile his feelings with who Ellen is?

“Your eyes. You look at a man without the foolish hopes and dreams most women do. Or the greed.” He sighs: a harsh sound between a growl and a laugh. “You look at a man…and you tempt him, Rose. You’re naked and open, and you show him what he is back. Like a mirror. And some stupid men, like your husband… They believe that they can change that reflection. All they have to do is make you moan.”

“If he can make you cry, Rose. Scream his name. Whimper.” He speaks each word into me and my eyes flutter, threatening to roll. “Then he can… shape that reflection… He won’t be a monster. Not anymore.”

There's a lot of violence, but I don't consider it super dark. It's a drama that gets in your head and sticks there. Mischa is playing just as many games as he accused Ellen of playing. As the reader, you are kept anxious and wary as you try to discern what is truth and what is lie. It's a delicious way to engage with unique characters so abused that you truly wonder if they can withstand the war. There's a lot about these characters that is not clear yet. BuT what is clear is that Ellen and Mischa are obsessed and fascinated with each other. Let's see where this wild ride ends in book 3.

I Review:

As I mulled over this final book in the War of the Roses series, I couldn't help but think immediately of a super hero cliche: With great power comes great responsibility. This of course comes from Spiderman, and I can easily apply it here.

As Mischa and Ellen become closer, they become stronger. And the mafiya war intensifies, possibly including those close to home. So who do they trust? They turn to each other, and Mischa finally admits why he's so angry and distrustful of Ellen.

“He told me about a woman he knew.” He sounds distant, as if he’s relaying some sordid fairytale he hasn’t deciphered yet. “A woman who showed him what love was.” He laughs and I doubt it was a cherished lesson. “He said it was like a rose. Beautiful, but painful . The thorns dig deep. They cut through you, but a part of you still won’t let it go.”“Is that the real reason why you call me Rose?” I ask in a thready whisper. “To mock me?”“To warn myself,” he replies. “I always %&$# knew… You’d cut me into pieces.”“I want to trust you.”

These two damaged people are drawn to each other even through impossible odds. It's an intensity that's almost anxiety inducing. They hold onto each other as if helping each breathe. They both seem to have trouble naming what they have is love for a long time.

"War, violence, and death can cause untold pain, but one emotion above all delivers the truest form of agony. It slices you into pieces, but you can’t help but relish every gaping, bleeding wound. I once told Mischa I’d never felt love. But that was a lie. I’ve never stopped feeling it. And now? All I can do is watch its original source, oblivious to the passage of time."

It's a cruel, disabling love...suffocating and fierce. It's all these people understand. But can it actually work this time? Can they love while they wade through the secrets and lies and manipulations? For a long time Mischa was on high alert, lying when he deemed necessary to keep everyone, including Ellen, unbalanced. Trust interrupts the vicious cycle. Ellen discovers that Mischa has multiple sides to himself. It's as if Mischa decided it's too exhausting to keep up the angry facade.

Ellen is a ever changing character. She finds out answers and her role in the war. Her opinion starts to matter, and she takes a leap of faith in Mischa. The scenes with Mischa and the kids are beautifully structured. They showed a different side of him, yet keeping to his personality. The ending was satisfying and violent, but it also reminded the reader how the mafiya works: There's always someone there to take a missing boss' place. The war doesn't ever end. You just hope to get out relatively unscathed and finding worth in your life.

4.5 Holy hell stars.

What did I just read? There is way more suspense to this story than I was expecting. Life for Ellen has never been easy but it sure got worse if that is even possible. My heart broke for her from the beginning of this story where she was a little girl. I cannot imagine living in the shadows like she was forced to do.

There is a lot at play here, and I don't think that this book even really touched the surface. I still have so many questions. Even as dark as certain elements of this story was, I still was drawn to Mischa. Especially, toward the end when I understood what was motivating him. However, I am still trying to decide how everything connects. These two had history and I want to know more. I also want to know more about Briar because something isn't right there. Looking forward to the next book and getting more answers.

I read this as part of the boxset.

4.7 holy hell stars

I thought the first book was intense but as these secrets start coming out they are getting even more intense and mind-boggling. the author should be commended on her ability to create this dark and bewitching world that she created. There is nothing sugary and sweet in this story. It is dark and violent.

I liked that Ellen is finding her way in this story and making Micha open up. There is still a lot to unpack where he is concerned. Also, in regard to Ellen too. I will say that this author knows how to leave off on a cliffhanger. I am glad I read this as a boxset knowing the last book is already included.

This author and her wicked mind is slowly turning into one of my favorites because I adore how she can get me so invested in the dark underbelly of monsters. I cannot wait for the next book.

I
4.4 stars

This book was a lot tamer than previous books. There seemed to be gentleness to Mischa that was not there before. I liked watching him interact with Eli and Mouse. Even with Ellen, he wasn't as harsh or violent. Ellen took off in this book. She took all of her years of hell and utilized them in the fight for her life, literally.

Towards the end, a pivotal scene that spelled out the entire backstory and how this war came to be. I definitely was surprised. Even though I got my answers, I still felt that something was missing from the ending.I wanted more of a resolution with all the characters, especially the ones that had been missing or that felt incomplete from the beginning (Looking at you, Briar, and Ama(She was a HUGE loose end taht I wanted to know more about). Still, this was a great ending to an epic trilogy.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

Wow!! This series/boxset is AMAZING 💙🖤 It’s dark, brutal, mysterious, full of many twists and turns that really pack that punch!! I read each book individually, so my reviews for each book are below!! This was one of the best series I’ve ever read, and I was very sad to see it end, after book 3!! I highly recommend this boxset!! It was nearly impossible to put down ♥️

XV (Fifteen):
Whoa 😲 This is another AMAZING book by Lana Sky!! From the very first page, it started with a bang, and was ahead to the finish line for the rest of the book!! It was impossible for me to put down!! Your heart truly breaks for Ellen 💔 She is basically tossed aside in favor of her half sister, until she is completely sacrificed, after being mistaken for her half sister. She is taken captive, due to a vicious mafia blood feud. Mischa, whose job it is to “break“ Ellen, is very complex, dark and mysterious 🖤 Can Ellen see to the heart of this “monster??” This story is dark, brutal, mysterious and fantastic 💙🖤 Plus, the surprise ending has a twist that packs a punch!!! I highly recommend this book!!!

VII (Seven):
Please keep your hands inside the rollercoaster, at all times, while you go on this wild ride!!! This is book 2, in the War of the Roses trilogy, and picks up right where book 1 leaves off......And boy does it 🖤 There are more secrets, you have no idea who to trust, action, brutality, mystery.....I couldn’t quit reading this book 🖤 After being brutalized by Mischa, Ellen, has to rely on him for protection. It doesn’t come without the price of still being brutalized by Mischa. Mischa is struggling internally with trying to love, and being the “mafia monster” he was trained to be 🖤 This trilogy just keeps getting better and better!! I highly recommend this book, after reading book 1, and I most DEFINITELY can’t wait for book 3!!!!!!

I (One):
This is the conclusion to the War of Roses Series. It was a fantastic conclusion to a phenomenal series!! I definitely don’t want to give away any spoilers, but just know this series is amazing from beginning to end 🖤 It definitely didn’t take me long to read the entire series!! It’s so full of mystery, action, betrayal, secrets, lies and twists and turns!! If you’re looking for a dark mafia romance, you’ve definitely found the right series!! I highly recommend this book, after reading books 1 and 2!! I’m sorry to see this series come to an end 🖤

I loved the War of Roses trilogy. This is my first time reading any works by Lana Sky and it definitely
won’t be the last. I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time. It makes you think, question who you can trust, what people are willing to sacrifice for those they love, people’s motivations, and more. I love that is it written in first person. In XV (15) we meet Ellen (Rose) and right off the bat the drama starts. It instantly pulls you in. XV is mostly about Ellen and learning about her life and how she plays a role in this criminal war. You think you’re starting to understand the role she plays, but things aren’t always what they seem. In VII (7) we get more insight into Mischa. He’s definitely an enigma. In I (1), we learn a lot more about Ellen’s mother Marnie and her life and influence. I found all the characters to be very interesting and wanted to know every single detail about the major and minor characters. I really wish there were more books in this series. The ending was a little quick for me and I felt there’s a lot more story to tell. I wanted to know more about Somodorov and how everything all went down in the end. I loved the first person POV, but I would’ve loved reading I from both Ellen’s and Mischa’s POV. I do wish Ellen would’ve been able to fight more in the end. Maybe not be a killer like Mischa, Sergei, and the others, but I wish she would’ve learned to defend herself better. She had dealt with years of psychological and physical abuse and continued to do so throughout the trilogy. It is A LOT to overcome, but I do wish we got to see her stronger and more confident in the end. I don’t think Ellen is weak. I think she is very strong to put up with and survive all the abuse she dealt. But when it came to the final battle I wanted more for her. I wanted Ellen, at the very least, to punch Briar one good time. Briar got off way too easy. I also feel like Mischa deserved more retribution from Ellen for what he did to her. Robert did too of course, but I understand why she was never able to give that to Robert. Mischa, however, could’ve definitely been given a piece of her mind especially towards the end.

There definitely could be more books in this series. There’s a lot left to explore with Ellen and Mischa and this new chapter they are stepping into for their lives. So much more to learn about Vanya, Anna, Eli, and Mouse. Overall this trilogy was a very entertaining read that had me sacrificing sleep to find out what was going to happen next. I love mafia dark romances and if you do too, you should definitely add this to your TBR list.

This dark psychological story is very dark and emotional Ellen has been kidnapped by Mischa, a misunderstanding but still it happens and Mischa is a very unpredictable and violent guy, he will try to break her down, she is already in her own hell and now she will find the unexpected. The whole story is original, refreshing, the whole series in a box set is a great way to get them, I got the audiobook set narrated by Caitlin Allgood Knight, I really liked her voice, the pacing was well done, and didn't struggle with it even though it was a very long audiobook.

I bought the whole series in one book, so the book was a solid 600 pages but it was cheaper than buying them all individually so I'd recommend that.

Now the actual story was relatively interesting, very on par for Lana Sky. Mafia family's fighting, a women getting caught in the cross fires, the enemy of her family falling in love with her but ya know mentally torturing her a little bit first.

This wasn't my favorite Lana Sky story hut I did really enjoy it. I did like the story between Ellen and Mischa. I did like their connection to each other and the very aggressive back and forth till they eventually realize they need each other on an emotional level and would protect each other to all ends of the earth. I also love that Mischa has a gentle side which we don't always see in Dark Heros, but tne way Mischa is around children is so cute. You forget that you're supposed to think he's a monster for a moment.

Ultimately I really did enjoy it. Read through the whole book in one complete sitting cause i just couldn't put it down. Wow. Would definitely recommend.

Ellen has been used and lied to her whole life. When she is taken by Mischa by mistake, she slowly finds out all the secrets. Who can she trust and who she can't. Who is still lying to her and who's telling the truth. Through the 3 books she fights to figure out who she really is and her attraction to Mischa. Dark romance. Well written and edited as always from this author. This is my voluntary review for receiving an ARC.

Dark and Gritty

Enjoyed this story completely. The characters in this story were well developed. The main characters each evolves throughout the book. Ellen evolves the most. This book is not for the faint of heart. Ellen goes through a lot. This was my first time reading a book by this author. I recommend it.

So emotional. So painful. So raw. So gritty. The perfect blend.
I felt like the ending was incomplete but complete at the same time. All their problems were not resolved, they were in danger, yet they felt safe when they were together.

PLEASE READ THE TW BEFORE READING THIS SERIES.

I read all three of these books when they were first released individually. Each one blew me away and kept me on the edge of my seat. If you are a fan of dark romance and have not read anything by this author, this is a fantastic place to start. Below are the reviews I left for each book when I originally read them.

XV: Fifteen
XV: Fifteen left me absolutely breathless. It was a dark and brutal story with scenes of unthinkable violence. It was so well written, with many secrets and twists, I couldn't put it down. It does end in one heck of a cliffhanger and has me anxiously waiting for book two.

Ellen was the ultimate underdog, she had been all her life. From a young age she was hidden away, a dirty little secret, and never measured up to her half-sister. Then she became the wife of an abuser, someone who only wanted candy on his arm and someone he could control and possess. Despite all that, Ellen was a fighter. She was never going to let Mischa win without putting up a fight. My heart broke for her though. She had definitely been conditioned by her husband. Her undying loyalty for him was tough to take.

Mischa had an ax to grind and a hatred of the Winthorp family that stemmed from a terrible injustice over two decades ago. It didn't matter to him how a person was related to the Winthorps, he just wanted revenge. He did unspeakable things to Ellen. He was cold and relentless. However, there were glimpses that eluded that maybe he was different with Ellen than any of his victims in the past.

Despite the events that took place between these two, you can't help but wonder where they're going to end up. Mischa made Ellen feel in a way she never had before. I also got the impression Ellen did the same for Mischa. It will be an interesting and twisted ride, that's for sure.

VII: Seven
I thought book one left me breathless. It did, but wow, book two took my breath away more than I ever imagined it could. Book two picks up where book one left off so you do need to read them in order.

Ellen and Mischa's "relationship" is more than messed up. Ellen endures even more trauma in book two, you wonder how she's managed to stay alive to this point. Mischa is just plain cruel, or is he? He physically and emotionally abuses Ellen. However, we are given glimpses into a man who may care more than he's comfortable with.

In real life, I'd never root for them to develop an actual relationship, no matter how gentle he can be at times. However, in my fantasy world, I'm cheering for them. The way Mischa takes care of Ellen after her altercation with Nicklaus, and his treatment of the young girl, makes it hard for me to completely hate him. I also get the sense Ellen feels more free to be her true self around him, or at least stand up for herself if nothing else. I also get the impression Mischa wants to be different with Ellen. He's just struggling with years of molding of his role and how he should act as leader of the mafiya.

The writing, once again, is excellent. I was glued to the story and didn't want to have to put it down. There were even more secrets revealed, as well as twists and turns. We don't know who to trust and it seems neither do Ellen or Mischa. I thought book one ended in a heck of a cliffhanger. That was nothing compared to the cliffhanger we are left with in book two. Book three can't be released fast enough. I have to know what happens next!!

I: One
Just when you think there couldn't possibly be any more deception, secrets, lies, backstabbing, and betrayal in Ellen/Rose and Mischa's lives Ms. Sky proves you wrong.

Oh. My. Goodness!! This third book in the War of Roses series pulled me in and wouldn't let go. I couldn't put it down. I think I was holding my breath most of the time I was reading. With all that Ellen has had to endure her whole life it's really amazing she hasn't given up and just let death claim her before now. That's what I love about her though. In the two previous books, we saw glimpses of the fighter she is deep down, even if she didn't believe it about herself. In book three, I love that we get to see Ellen gain her confidence and find her strength.

Mischa has been crueler than cruel when it comes to Ellen. Like her though, in the previous two books, we got to see glimpses of the man behind the wall of paranoia he puts up with Ellen. I love the transformation we get to see of him as a man and as a lover.

Lastly, I love the development of Mouse and how she grows to trust Ellen. This book is supposed to be the last in the trilogy. However, I'm hoping there will be more to Mouse's story and her future.

There were a few new characters introduced in this book, but I'm not going to give away any spoilers as to who they are. You'll just have to read this for yourself to find out.

The War of Roses series is not for the faint of heart. There are scenes of unimaginable violence. However, if you enjoy these types of storylines, this series will not disappoint. I highly recommend reading all three books, but you need to read them in order.

This book lived up to it’s dark mafia romance genre! The characters of Mischa and Ellen were perfect foils for each other. I went through so many levels of love and hate, anger and relief from beginning to end. It was suspenseful and had many surprise twists.

This series/boxset is amazing🖤 It’s dark, brutal, mysterious, full of many twists and turns. I was hooked the entire time. I read each book individually, so I have all my reviews below.

XV (Fifteen):
This story was suspenseful and action-packed! No lovey-dovey book, it was dark, twisted, brutal, crazy, and mysterious.

Mischa and Ellen are 2 characters so complex, and the journey they are on is just mind-blowing. From the beginning, I was on the edge of my seat, turning page after page.
Mischa is driven by revenge in a war that started 24 years ago, he is disturbed and cruel, one could say he is an impetuous monster, he knows how to play mind games, and he is not afraid to do that with Ellen, one second he can make you believe he is evil then the next he is sweet and caring.

Ellen was hidden away from a young age, a dirty little secret, and never measured up to her half-sister; she was raised in a world by monsters, to eventually become a monster's plaything and obsession, she knows nothing else but pain, abuse, horror, and neglect, she is afraid of the changes that Mischa brings because he could just as easily ruin her, just like her "family" did.

Lana Sky has me captivated from the first chapter; I was dragged into a world that was so dark and mysterious, with secrets that will have your mind whirling with all sorts of possibilities, as this is book one; prepare for the cliff-hanger and the desperate need for more that it will leave you with.

VII (Seven):
Where do I start? VII is the perfect continuation of XV. I'm addicted to this series, and like with all of Lana's stories, I was hooked from the beginning.

The second book in the series is an explosive ride that will leave you with more questions than answers. Ellen was given a choice at the end of the last book, the choice being: death or survival with a monster and Ellen chose the monster; there is a constant push and pull between Mischa and Ellen that is addicting because you never know what to expect from them, I was reading page after page.

There are so many secrets that come to light. Mischa's story is complex and complicated; he is a contradiction, he acts like a cold and heartless monster, but the next minute he is different. He physically and emotionally abuses Ellen, but we are also given glimpses into a man who may care more than he will like to admit and he's comfortable with.

Ellen decides that it's finally time to start taking more control of her life and no longer allow herself to be a pawn in the game between the Mafiya families and the Winthorps. Ellen starts discovering more secrets, and she's finally got some answers. All of this helps her in some way to understand Mischa's unstable anger.

During the book, we see development in the relationship between Mischa and Ellen, you can feel that Mischa wants to be different for Ellen, but he struggles with years of molding for the role as a leader of the Mafiya and how he should act.

Lana did an amazing job with the plot, the twists, the secrets, and the development between Ellen and Mischa was written perfectly. I cant wait to see what happens in the final installment.
This series is a must-read if you love dark and twisted romances 🖤🔥

I (One):
This was an incredible series! Lana Sky created an outstanding story.

The third book in the War of Roses series pulled me in and wouldn't let go; it was dark, twisted, intense, edgy; it was just perfect with so much suspense, secrets, and intrigue. Their story will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire series.

It so amazing how Ellen hasn't given up after everything she had to go through her entire life. We finally got to see her growing into her own with so much strength and confidence. Mischa intended to break her, but by doing that, he transformed her, he showed Ellen her potential and true powers; not only that, but he also transformed himself along the way; during the book, we learn more about Ellen's history and the other events that brought everyone to where they are now.

We knew the cruel and evil Mischa, but in this book, we get to see more of him and his new side; we see how he acknowledged his protective and caring side that he kept hidden under all that thirst for violence and vengeance. His relationship with Ellen has evolved so much since the first book, and all the questions from the previous books are finally answered. We get some new characters, more secrets are revealed, and true emotions are finally shown.

I love how Mischa and Ellen grew individually and also together. They finally learned to communicate and trust each other; their development was truly amazing, as well as the development we see with other characters.
The War of Roses series is not for the faint of heart. However, if you enjoy these types of storylines, this series will not disappoint

𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒑𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆-𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆

If you’re looking for a traditional mafia book, this is not it. Although there are elements of a mafiya, it is more of a backdrop in this story. I find this story to read more like a dark romance. It is 𝒕𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌 and 𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒂𝒍, these are the types of things in a story that my little black heart rejoices amongst.

The thing that I admire and appreciate about Lana Sky is that she has an aptitude to cultivate a story that is alluring and she writes without trepidation. She brings you the story barring any reservation. Her characters are always powerful and reinforce the plot foundation of her stories.

Mischa Stepanov is a cruel, impetuous monster that is driven by revenge in a blood feud that originated 24 years ago by Ellen’s family. He captures Ellen thinking she is her half sister, and because of her family’s transgressions he tortures her regardless that she is not the prima princess Briar Winthrop. Misha seeks to ruin Ellen with pain, brutality and bloodthirstiness.

Ellen Winthrop is marked as the fifteenth martyr in the blood feud. You empathize with Ellen Winthrop. She is downtrodden, but she has a strength within her that burns through and allows her to endure the castigations and cruelty she receives from both her husband as well as her captor. She petitions Misha to show mercy, but her fate is beyond any compassion he can offer.

There are secrets aplenty that will have your mind whirling with all sorts of possibilities, twists and turns that will have you unsure of the direction the story is heading and a cliff that will have you hanging by your fingernails.

𝐀 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫. 𝐀 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐫. 𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫.

Mischa Stepanov is one hot blooded mercurial, volatile and broody dude. He has my head spinning so fast I don’t know if I want to bang him like a screen door in a hurricane or put him down like the rabid dog he is. But beneath that temperamental spasmodic demeanor is a gentleness, a benevolence that peaks through every so often.

Ellen Winthrop is put through a blender and battered physically and mentally since her captivity. She is a survivor, she has endured her husband Robert’s abuse and mistreatment, and she will survive Mischa’s torture. Or will she? Mischa has found something that could break her, something that she is not familiar or comfortable with; 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨.

VII is a quick paced, action packed read. Just as your blood is racing, and your mind is whirling and twisting, Ms. Sky detonates an explosive bomb that has you jumping up and down and screaming obscenities you didn’t think you knew the meaning of! Be prepared readers……I am still pissed at her for that cliff she left me on!!

What a conclusion to an outstanding and remarkable series. It is dramatic, theatrical and completely unexpected. 𝐀 𝟓* 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫, 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚!! Lana Sky has presented a sumptuous serving of dark romance with her War of Roses trilogy. This story will keep you on your toes and begging for more. I have yet to pick up a book written by this author where I have not gotten completely wrapped up in her writing and the characters. Each story more captivating than the previous one. Stories that I didn’t want to put down until I had devoured every last word, and that I was left still thinking about long after I did. Lana’s distinctive writing style is refreshing and sets her apart from so many other authors and is fast becoming one of my favorites.

Mischa and Ellen’s story has gone from 𝙃𝘼𝙏𝙀 to 𝙊𝘽𝙎𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙄𝙊𝙉 to 𝘿𝙀𝙎𝙄𝙍𝙀 to 𝘿𝙀𝙑𝙊𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉. She has gone from a pawn to a queen and he from a captor to a king. The game is in check, and in most formal games the king is never captured, but in this game there are more players who would like to maneuver the king into a stalemated position. Is there a way to remove the threat before endgame? 𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙳 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝚂𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙴𝚂 𝚃𝙾 𝙵𝙸𝙽𝙳 𝙾𝚄𝚃!!

Now this is one box set I'd wanted to share all my reviews. Thank you Lana for bringing us Misha and Ellen
#justbreathe

Ellen Winthrop is marked as the fifteenth martyr in the blood feud. You empathize with Ellen Winthrop. She is broken but she has a strength within her that burns through and allows her to endure the cruelty she receives from both her husband as well as her captor. She is now in Mischa's clutches.

Mischa Stepanov has been locked in a mafia blood feud with the Winthrop family for years. Each side taking a victim and now its his turn and he will mark them as XV.

Ellen is one of the Winthrop daughters, hidden away from most of the world. She is kidnapped by the brutal Mischa, who thinks she's her sister Briar. And this is where the true fight begins. Mischa is unpredictable and violent, but he underestimates Ellen's strength. He is trying hard to break her down, but fails. Ellen shows him she has the strength the take what he gives. She after all is Robert's wife. (Briar's brother) Robert has kept her broken and ignorant. What she does know from Robert though is a secret arsenal of information that Mischa would love to have. He slowly starts getting information from Ellen. After all she complies or dies. Ellen believes Mischa is the blonde boy who had showed her mercy all those years ago they broke into her house.

Will she be shown the same mercy now?

Holy Hell!!! I am really not one for long reviews but this by far is my favorite read of 2019. I have read Lana Sky books and she never disappoints. This story is Dark, Twisted and Raw. So well written I literally did not stop until I finished the book. Trust me by the end of the story you will be asking yourself what the hell did I just read all while you're dying of anticipation to know more. Can not wait for book 2. Thank you Lana Sky for my new favorite book. PS I've already started to re read the book, it's that good!

Now that I can catch my breath, it was intense. And the ending aaahhh your killing me!!!! Now that Mischa has given Ellen (little rose) the choice to kill her old self we see her start to bloom into the person she is ment to be. There are so many secrets that come to light. Like who is Rose's father? I understand why Mischa is the way he is about his sister when Rose questions him, but still want to reach in the pages and choke the man. He is so mean to Rose. But she surprised me how well she is coming into her own. You see the feelings are getting more and more intense the deeper we go. Now that we learn the truth about her baby it truly makes me hate Robert even more. I'm pretty sure Rose has fallen for Mischa otherwise when offering her body to him her request for what she wanted in return from him is "him"
Robert is desperate to get her back that is for sure the war is getting thick and bloody. I'm dying from that cliffhanger. I will anxiously be waiting for book 3. Lana you are seriously my most favorite author. Don't ever stop! 🔥🖤🖤🖤
I didn't want Ellen and Mischa story to end!! This is the 3rd book of the series War of the Roses by Lana Sky. I highly recommend you read XV and VII if you haven't yet. Ellen is still coming into her role. Mischa is still learning to trust. This story brings out more twisted truths buried beneath lies. Every character has their role and place in the story. Ellen has completely come into her own, the sheep has become the wolf. Mischa's hard edges seem to soften a little. New characters are introduced into the story. You see were Sergi and other characters fall into the story. I loved the interaction between mouse and Mischa it made it all the better when Rose told him news. Was totally shocked. This book was amazing the perfect ending ending. All your questions that have built up in the last two books are answered in 1 (one). The plot was so good I literally had to read in one sitting. Lana Sky has gave me everything I wanted in this series. Her work is phenomenal and reccomend all her writing. I wish their would be another book to see Mischa and Rose working together and what their life is like a year or two later, hey I can dream. Lol. Thank you Lana for the perfect ending to a perfect series. I anxiously await your next story.

The Complete War of Roses Trilogy: XV, VII and I

Ellen Winthrop has always grown up in the background in her home. Her sister Briar preferred the attention and material things. As sisters, Ellen is pretty, but Briar has always been considered beautiful.
Mischa Stepanov has been locked in a mafia blood feud with the Winthrop family for years. Each side taking a victim and now it’s his turn and he will mark them as XV.
XV - When Ellen was a child a boy with a knife broke into her room but instead of hurting her, he makes her get under her bed. He tells her, “Don’t think, don’t move, just breathe.” That becomes Ellen’s mantra through her life and helps to keep her sane. As a child, Ellen had been afraid of monsters but what happens when there is something or someone scarier? The monsters are real, and they have come for her. Mischa decided to kidnap Briar Winthrop as the next victim of the blood feud but instead mistook Ellen for her. Mischa will use any means necessary to get what he wants whether it’s his fists or a knife. Either way, he is going to send her back in pieces so what’s a little blood spilt anyhow?
I loved this beautiful book so much! Lana Sky has such a way with words, and it floors me that each book is even better than the last. This book hooks you from the very first page and takes you on a high-speed ride that never lets you go until the final page.
VII - Ellen Winthrop has been pulled into a blood feud between the Winthrops and the Mafia that has been going on longer than she has been alive. Stuck between a man that saw her more as a trophy and man who is slowly building her into someone or something, she barely recognizes. With Robert she was meek and quiet but with Mischa she has a voice that is heard and a reason to speak. Mischa knows answers to the secrets that elude Ellen, but some things are better left long dead in the past.
This book crushed me and then built me back up again to crush me yet again. Mischa is strong but at times he lets Ellen in to see that small part that still belongs to the boy that told her to get under the bed and just breath. He has saved her so many times physically as well as emotionally. He is slowly making her stronger while she is tearing down the walls that he has built around that heart that he thought was black.
I - Ellen has been given information about her past that makes her question her loyalty to both men in her life. One that used her to make himself seem sane and the other that doesn’t question his. Both want her body, mind and soul but which one will she choose? One kept her in a gilded cage of lies and the other wants to teach her to be strong on her own. There is a lot at stake, but can she fill the role, or will she go down in flames and bring Mischa down with her?
This book belonged to Ellen and her day of reckoning. She came into her own and she made me so proud. You find out where everything began and the repercussions that followed. Nothing is what it seems, and the secrets keep circling around the same person, her mother. It’s where everything started but it will end with Ellen. I fell in love with Mischa even more in this book. You delve deeper into his mind and how his past intermingles with Ellen. It’s almost as if fate already had them in mind.

Left me breathless. Truly moving and captivating story. - Perfectly perfect!

I read every book from this set separately and I envy you that you can just binge on that trilogy. It's worth every penny and every minute of the time spend reading it.

XV
I'm speechless... I don't know where to start with my review, so I will start at the end. In truly master-like style the cliffhanger left me wondering, thinking, conjuring up possible scenarios. Like in the best psychological thriller movies, you watch for the whole time with pounding heart, trembling hands, sometimes you want to close your eyes so no to see those horrible scenes and you think you are closer and closer to solve the mystery... and suddenly... - 'Bang! THE END!'.
Dirty, raw, almost horrible - but so mesmerizing in the ugliness that I couldn't stop reading. Perfect psychological study of victim being held captive, of victim suffering from years of physical and psychological abuse. And the beast, the monster just pictured perfectly. All emotions presented on pages are raw, almost animalistic. Two broken souls trying to survive in the cruel world that took from them everything that could bring them joy, happiness, peace and love. In this world there is no place for this kind of feelings. There's only cruelty, abuse, lies, vengeance, betrayal, anger and searing pain.
The plot flows just in a right pace, full of angst, mystery and suspense. I loved that as a reader I don't know everything, it added to the mystery and suspense. Made me guess, made me wonder, made me think. All the characters and their qualities presented in the book are thought through perfectly. Reading this book gave me feeling like watching really good movie. Great, fantastic read! Kept me captivated from the first to the last page. Now, I can't wait to read the next part. I just need to breathe...

VII
Is there anyone to trust in this cruel and twisted world?

Devoured it in one sitting. I couldn't wait to put my hands on this part and read it. And oh boy! Author doesn't disappoint. There's everything dark what I crave in a perfectly written dark romance. The hero is so mysterious and so twisted that it is hard to imagine what are his thoughts and what would be his next move.
Lies, hidden truths, suspense, danger, cruelty and great passion for revenge. His desire to posses Little Rose is almost palpable and this all thanks to the way author weaves the story and builds tension. Don't start me on the cliffhanger... Phew, this part was extra intense.

I
When started with this series I wouldn't dream of such a great conclusion. Full of suspense, unpredictable events, made me tremble with anticipation as to what awaits me and characters on the next pages.
In this world you never know who to trust and you need to play the game to outsmart your enemies.
Not always people who present them as allies are what they seem to be. More lies, more deception, enough twisted events and action that bring full range of emotions that made my heart to beat faster while reading this fantastic story. I love how this author is able so easily build such a twisted environment and bring to life characters that develop with the story line, that transform, are strong and resilient. I feel like I need more. Would gladly read another book where Rose and Misha play the main part.

War of Roses trilogy by Lana Sky is a mafia dark romance trilogy that is more dark than romantic. It was an odd read for me. There was chemistry between Mischa and Ellen but the roughness in Mischa’s behaviour did not change throughout. He was a bad man through and through and the author did not try to change the behaviour in any way. Dark Romances usually show a change in the darkness of the male protagonist that it excludes the female protagonist. Lana Sky does not give her female protagonist a break. It is like saying, ‘Learn to like what I gave you.’

XV:
So I first read XV when it was first published as a rough draft on Watt-pad and I’m so so happy with the changes that Lana has made to the series. The new published version has more suspense in terms of Ellen’s past and more meaning behind her relation with Mischa. Based on Mischa’s dialogue you can tell that, even with all his power and wealth, he’s just a lonely guy who doesn’t want to trust Ellen’s motives. Ellen, on the other hand, is afraid of the changes that Mischa brings because he could just as easily ruin her. All in all, this book IS AMAZING! Another great dark romance by Lana Sky packed with intensity and a captivating storyline!

VII: So if I loved XV, I’m obsessed with VII! The character development for Ellen was amazing. You see her transform into someone much more self-assured and strong in the face of danger and when dealing with Mischa’s insecurities. I also really really like that we got to see a whole new side of Mischa that wasn’t really present in the first book. I noticed that this book has significantly less steamy scenes between the MC’s and I love that Lana did this because I was able to gain more insight into how their relationship worked without the component of sex. I seriously read this book in a day and i. Can’t. Wait. For. The. Next. One. While the ending was somewhat foreshadowed, it makes for the perfect turning point in the series! Absolutely 5/5!

I: I’ve read almost all of Lana’s Sky stories and this has got to be my favorite series!! It was THE PERFECT ENDING. I honestly loved how you can actually compare the main characters to the first novel and see just how much they’ve developed. Misha’s and Rose’s relationship has evolved so much from the beginning that despite the curveballs they’re thrown they manage to survive together and stick that way. Honestly, Lana did an excellent job (as always) in portraying a thrilling mafia romance with all the dark elements needed! Love it so so much I’m definitely rereading the series as soon as I can.

XV #1 Wow!!! This was heart pounding and overload intense with so many twists and turns you have no idea what is coming next and oh boy let me tell you it keeps your full attention with the secrets , whos bad whos good and what happened between the families. Mischa is fierce and scary and he does not hold back anything he is out for blood and Ellen is captured in his web and oh my god what this woman endures is truly horrific and all you can do is just breathe with her, what strong characters that will take you on a wild ride. This is truly a phenomenal masterpiece.

VII SEVEN This is INCREDIBLE there are no words good enough for this epic powerful story that is full of so many twists and secrets, it is down right brutal and dangerous filled with so much pain that goes along with the ultimate revenge as Mischa and Ellen play the game a whole lot deeper as we find out a lot more information of the past. Mischa is some kind of intense and he will dominate your every thought right down to your soul even a bit scary and I love him hard, Ellen suffers so much and you have to wonder does she deserve any of this but the tension and attraction they have is out of this world and they are fiercely hot together. I am in love with these characters and you become so addicted theres no way your putting it down.

I(ONE) What an amazing story couldn't ask for anything more it was so addictive I couldn't put it down, we get it all dark, twisted filled with lies and what to believe and who with a whole lot of deceit that takes you on an intensity of emotion as Mischa and Ellen become entangled on so many different levels as confused feeling arise these two are so intense you never know whats coming next as they challenge each other at every single thing and it makes them stronger and I loved their private discussions and banter and most loved Mischa with Mouse it melted my heart at the interaction of her training. The writing is superb and so perfect and detailed you get lost in Mischas world and you don't want to leave.

Absolutely 5+Stars, Outstanding!!!
XV Book One
What an unbelievable book! Lana Sky is a master at telling a story. It will grab you from the beginning to the last page. It is fast paced, full of anger, grief, sex, brutal and horrific. He's insane and she is caught in the middle of a Mafiya war. Hold on for a book that you will not be able to put down. What an ending!!! I can't wait for Book 2

VII (Seven) Book Two
5+Stars for another phenomenal hit by Lana Sky...
This merciless saga continues with Mischa and Elle or Rose as Mischa calls her. Mischa, Leader of the Mafiya, maintains his brutal aggression towards Ellen. I keep waiting for things to ease up between these two, but so far it hasn't happened. There is plenty of sex between them and when Ellen is injured Mischa takes care of her with a degree of gentleness. But then he continues on with his ruthless verbal assault. I didn't put the book down reading each page with eagerness waiting to see a change between these two people and then another surprise ending. Lana Sky is an extraordinary author to be able to create a storyline like this. Here I go again on pins and needles waiting for the next book. READ this book today!!!

I (One) (War of Roses Book 3)
This is an incredible series...5+Stars!
I was mesmerized by this book, there is so much emotions in each of the characters. I could not put the book down from the first word to the last page. Lana has written a phenomenal series about a "Twisted game of Men and Money", intrigue, suspense, and so many secrets. A love story that has so many facets, I was trying to figure how who were the evil ones and who were the good ones. You must read Book 1 and 2 before reading this book. You will not be disappointed. I never am with this author.

War of Roses is a really exceptional series. The kind of books that leave you thinking about them for days and you find yourself trying to relive all these different scenarios in your head just to calm yourself.
I read and reviewed these books as individual copies but since they’ve got me all twisted up inside, I can’t not review the boxed set.

XV: Fifteen
This was amazing. I love strong females and for me that’s what Ellen is. I really want to see her grow and become who she really is without being influenced to be someone or something by the powerful men around her . So excited to know all of these secrets and to see what becomes of Rose.

VII: Seven
Secrets! Secrets! Secrets!
Lies! Lies! Lies!

Honestly when I read this, it left me shook.
It’s really hard to imagine that a person can have so much deception and drama around them.
I loved this because Ellen grew so much and decided to be a queen instead of a pawn.
I love that Ellen chose to overcome all the obstacles around her instead of being a damsel in distress.
With Mischa’s rather ‘strange’(this doesn’t even begin to describe it) methods of encouragement she grows and becomes so much more than I could have imagined.

I: One

When so much threatens to destroy her progress, Ellen still decides to keep her chin up and not go back to where she was (a pawn).
Here she discovers the truth that so many, except herself, seem to know. She encounters people that she never thought she would. And she finds support and love where she never thought she would.

These books are incredibly fast paced and thrilling.
It’s a wild ride. ;)
