From bestselling authors J. Thorn and Glynn James comes Dustfall, a new post-apocalyptic series chronicling one man’s challenge and his epic quest to save what remains of humanity.
GLYNN JAMES is an author of science fiction, post-apocalyptic, dark fantasy, horror, and dystopian fiction. His love of science fiction began when he was eight years old after discovering HP Lovecraft and Richard Matheson, and then later on Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, James Herbert, Clive Barker, and Stephen King.
In addition to being author of the “ALTERLIGHT” supernatural mystery thriller series, he is author of the dark sci-fi series "DIARY OF THE DISPLACED", the post-apocalyptic "THROWN AWAY" series, and co-author of the "ARISEN" series and the “DUSTFALL” series.
This story starts years after the destruction of the United States by nuclear attack.
It is thoughtfully written in such a way that that the reader is immersed in the the story as if they are a part of it. The biggest disapointemont was that the series was ended at five novels. It could easily could have gone for five more. Note to the Authors; Thank You
I really enjoyed what your talents produced. I am a musician and I appreciate fine art when I see it. Yours was exceptional in this genre and deserves to be known.
To all readers of this review: If you like this type of Mad Max/EMP CHAOS Futuristic/Survival type action type novels, then this is for you!
So many follow follow the same formula, the grid fails, grandpa was right, he prepared, but he is dead, we have to fight back to his cabin in the hills and his supplies. Blah, blah, blah.
This story is different and this story is better. That's all I am going to say. Read it. You will like it.
I really enjoyed this series but gave it 4/5 stars due to pacing of the plot. Character development was average. I would have enjoyed more development of Sasha, Judas, Seren, Declan, and even Jonah.
The series needs more descriptive narratives of the various regions. Each location felt the same—same description of ruins, black pavement, carts (rusted cars), and trees. While each fight to battle was well written, there were far too many battles compared to character development and setting descriptions. More clues of the Valkerie Project needed. More background of Galax is needed. Galax residents were the perfect opportunity to explain blight and taint. I had a hard time determining what might be radiation versus viral or bacterial threat. Even an explanation from Galax of the possible volcano and earthquakes.
More explanation of why the annual migration was necessary is definitely needed. Seren survived a winter. Why couldn’t the Elk clan? Other than hunting and scavenging forests along the migration, I didn’t understand the point of the migration when leaders knew their clan would be attacked along the migration. How different was that from staying put for the winter and clans attacking home base?
In all, I ended the series feeling like the story was lacking but I did enjoy the read. The ending is set up for future books.
I am a big fan of Dystopian, this is one and it is magnificent epic tale. Society as we know it is no more. The people who have survived live in clans and have gone back to foraging to survive for 20 years they have been successful. The main clan we follow are the Elk Clan who every year have to leave one village high up in the mountains to travel south for the winter months. They make the trek every year but this year will be impact their peaceful lives like never before. The other clans and the subterranean clan of Velk short for Valkyrie because the are cannibals, have been displaced because of the mass of earthquakes disrupting life as they know it.
This post apocalyptic series was amazing! Set hundreds of years after a nuckear war wiped out most of the population, it follows a clan doing what they've done year after year to avoid the cold weather.......but this time it's different. Follow Jonas and his clan to an ending that I definitely didn't see coming - but explains a lot! And is it the end? I certainly hope not!
Dustfall was not my usual choice of tale. It is much more graphic than I usually enjoy. However some of the characters wouldn't let me go. I spent every night for almost two weeks staying up too late reading the entire series. The story was engrossing and the only things preventing five stars were a few sections where the editing fell down. Annoying errors do detract from the flow, guys. Looking forward to something else from these authors.
The beginning was a little slow but picked up quickly the world falling into Barron land, safe and unsafe ground(blighted) nomadic life being lived since the world ended a cold to cold to live through and a hot to hot to stay clans rising and falling till a final battle would love to read more about seren and Declan or maybe The cagoa’s grandson and more likely than not another war?
I just finished this tale and I just feel drained. This is such an epic tale that I wish would just continue into more and more stories. The ending was perfect and kudos to the authors for holding the suspense right up to the last page. Well done!! A dystopian tale for the not faint of heart!
I liked a lot in this series of books. I don’t really like zombies if that is even what those living dead were. The mystery and clan parts were great. I see a lot of room for other stories with some of these characters. If you like after the end type of books I recommend this series of books.
The Elk clan were walkers. They walked the journey every year. They moved from North to South and then back. Only this time their leader was dead. His son now was the leader. And this time the walk would be like none ever before. His enemies were coming for him.
Well written, plausible story with the breaking of humanity into small cliques in different parts of the country. Nomads for the most part based on weather but then it starts to get interesting. The ending, while not totally not unexpected , carries a bit of a surprise.
This is quite an epic story, big cliffhanger at the end. Very enjoyable. I liked that the people seemed very real and that the main characters were not just perfect people . They made mistakes and suffered for them. You could imagine this all happening in real life.
Outstanding set of books, set years into the future after a world catastrophe, setting the world back into primitive clans. The narration of the story was captivating, and thoroughly enjoyable. I hope that a second series will follow and eagerly await it. Or even ones set earlier. A must read.
It was a book I don't really read but I some how couldn't put down. It takes place in the far future with different tribes and how they differ but come together. I don't want to give more information as it will spoil the series.
I have been reading dystopian fiction for years and this is one of the best series I have found. I was completely gobsmacked at the ending. Time well spent. To the authors; well played gentlemen, well played, indeed.
Two things: 1, the ending was abrupt and unsatisfying. 2, the editing was poor. Typos abounded and the incorrect use of it’s (for its) was maddeningly repeated. There was almost no denouement. It’s like the authors just got tired and said, “Done!”
This is a different take on a EOTWAWKI Series and I like it! Many, many generations later and much knowledge lost, presents a new take on survival and warring. Very good and captivating read. Well done!
This is an excellent series - the concept is really intriguing and I couldn’t put the book down, I hope that there is a follow up as I want to know more!
A long story with good characters and many events leading into a great human adventure. Dustfall maintained my interest so I rarely flipped pages. It held a few surprises for me towards the end making the novel a worthy read. Those interested in science fiction should enjoy the novel.
I give this book 5 stars because living a busy life, I was forced to put it down for days at a time, yet not once did I have to go back and refresh the story of characters for myself! This might be a first for me.
The story had multiple lines to be kept track of, yet I was able to to pick it up after almost a week and be right back into it. Not once was I confused about who a character was or their relationships to the story.
The plot was full of unexpected turns and was built slowly and upon firm foundation all around. I am left with some loose ends, but I'm hoping that means another book.
The story is well paced. I didn't skip a word nor did I have to re-read to unravel overly complex detail not necessary to the plot.
GJJT. have prepared an Ominubus of the five novels in the Dustfall series. The series is about life after a complete post apocalyptic occurrence which wipes out life on planet Earth as know it. The five novels show a leftover population divided into clans who finally get together to fight the enemy. Tis is an exceptional series for the genre. See additional comments on each individual novel.....DEHS
Good story, a long. History of a alternate world where the world was destroyed yet still survived. Earth better watch out. Thanks for a good long READ. NEXT PLEASE.
