Alan Woods is a Trotskyist political theorist. He is one of the leading members of the British group Socialist Appeal as well as its parent group, the International Marxist Tendency (IMT). He is political editor of the IMT's In Defence of Marxism website.
Woods supported the Militant tendency within the UK Labour Party until the early 1990s, when he and Ted Grant were expelled from the tendency and founded the Committee for a Marxist International (soon renamed International Marxist Tendency) in 1992. They continued with the policy of entryism into the Labour Party.
Woods has been particularly vocal in his support for the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, and has repeatedly met with the socialist Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, leading to speculation he was a close political adviser.
Not only a polemic of great importance, but also an essential act of historical recovery. Would of course recommend this to anyone with interest in the subject, but especially to those with Stalinist leanings.
An excellent and concise clarification of the genuine ideas of the two greatest revolutionaries of the 20th century. The book places the debates between the two into their historical context, showing how they always stood side by side on fundamental questions and how they in the decisive moment of the revolution they were in complete accord. In fact, it was oftentimes against Stalin and his followers, who would later try to draw an imaginary line between them, that Lenin and Trotsky had to defend the basic ideas of Marxism and explain the role of the revolutionary party to. As a result, the book also serves as a great introduction to the ideas of Internationalism, the theory of permanent revolution and the Russian revolution.
Es un libro que da bastante pena. En vez de ayudar a la reflexión teórica del marxismo, intenta sentar cátedra de una manera muy burda. Una ortodoxia muy propia del estalinismo, por cierto.
