The Myth of Coincidence a Modern Day Missionary Adventure

Rate this book
Is there such a thing as coincidence? As you read through the Bible you see how a power, sovereign God intervenes daily in the lives of His people in very supernatural ways. What the world would consider luck, chance, or coincidence is nothing short of God Himself working behind the scenes in, and through, the lives of His followers. This book presents many Biblical examples of divine providence as the author's own testimony is intertwined with over forty years of accumulated ministry on the mission field in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.

What others are saying about the book:

“I love reading the stories of missionaries and others who have dedicated their lives to bringing the gospel and the love of Jesus to those who have not yet met the Savior. This book is one of those stories and I could hardly put it down. I walked away knowing the ways of God better, wanting to love and serve the Lord more, and reminded of the truth that faithfulness leads to fruitfulness. If you’re interested in seeing what a life of faith looks like in the 21st century The Myth of Coincidence is for you.”
Brian Brodersen
Pastor, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, CA
President, Calvary Chapel Bible College

“What a well-written and inspiring testimony of the grace and power of God in a life. This is going to be a textbook for many missionaries. I am going to read it again!”
Juan Domingo

“John Bonner set out as a surrendered servant of God, expecting one thing, but God often showing him another. Sometimes God behaves like a faulty GPS, but we learn that we are the ones with a shoddy sense of direction, and that every mountain or dark valley we pass through was by God’s design, that He would mold us, make us and use us. This is John’s story. Rather, God’s story in John. And he understands that he is not the only Christian with a story, thereby wrapping up each chapter with an opportunity for the reader to consider his own story. Yes, God is writing His story in me and you as well. May we all be willing servants, able to recognize the Lord’s work in us, and all around us. It is no coincidence that you hold this book in your hands.”
Pastor Kevin Green
Calvary Chapel of Fort Bragg, CA

“I have known John for years, but I didn’t know all these wonderful works God has done through him and his family. This book is blessing so many people!”
Felice Ip Nation
Assistant, Missions Office

“This is genuine Christianity. John is living out Acts 29. So blessed to read.”
Pastor Quint Betts

“I am inspired and challenged. Get it!”

I love that Calvary Chapel is a movement full of testimony books, from Chuck Smith’s biography, to Harvest, to the Reproducers, to Jesus Revolution, to Gullible’s Travels to the Myth of Coincidence and many more. We are a movement stunned and amazed by the things God is doing and excited to record them.

The Myth of Coincidence takes its place among the mounting testimonies of the work the Holy Spirit is doing through the Calvary Chapel movement and it is no less amazing than the stories coming before it, and ones to come long into the future.

John Bonner and his family have some amazing stories to tell and fantastic journeys they have been on with the Lord. It’s so encouraging to read.

The only reason I took a star off is the layout of the book jumps around the timeline a bit and can be a small bit confusing and the last chapter outlining the Gospel (it’s a perfect Gospel presentation) feels a bit like a standalone add on and not part of the story.
