Arcane daggers. Mysterious Scrolls. A vengeful dark god determined to end the world.

The soldiers of the shadow army are on the rise. The ancient deity Kashmeru has the Lotus empress under his control. It’s up to the elite mages of the Empire of the Lotus to put an end to the dark god’s course of death and destruction.

But mage powers have been outlawed, and not all mages are free. As Mayhara evades the Imperial Police on her quest to gather the elite mages, Shiro must do what is necessary to escape the prison camp he’s been trapped in for years.

The collapse of the universe is at hand, and the pieces of the puzzle must be put together before it’s too late.

After I finished reading the first book in this series I bought the box set so I could continue this series. When I was in the mood for a fast paced fantasy book I picked up Copper Mage. Copper Mage has the same fast paced exciting vibe as the first book. The story is well paced with not a dull moment and it makes for a great read.

I think I enjoyed this one even more than the first book. Now that we are introduced to the world characters and their quest the story moves even smoother. I enjoyed following Mayhara and Jae as they try to find the other elite mages as well as the daggers. They also have the help of their guru who serves a bit of a leader for the group. I liked how the plot progresses and I like this type of plot where they have to find a certain amount of people/ items. They make some good progress in this book and there are some interesting developments as well as some nice action scenes. I liked seeing more of the different mage powers and getting a better understanding of what some of the mages could do and what the different types of magic are like.

In this book it switched to multiple point of view, which worked well. We get to meet the copper mage and follow his point of view till he meets up with the rest. I liked how the different perspectives gave us additional insight into other characters, while still having plenty of Mayhara's point of view as well. There are some chapters form the point of view of the Lotus Empress as well, which are always pretty short, but do give some good insight into her situation as well as what the enemy is up to.

To summarize: This was a great sequel, it's a fast paced entertaining read with not a dull moment. I enjoyed this sequel and seeing how the plot progressed. The characters are searing for the other elite mages and the daggers and I liked seeing how they handled this. There are some well done action scenes too and I liked seeing more of the mage powers. The multiple points of view worked well here and helped to give some insight in other characters. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one!

So I thought book one was good but this one is wow, it’s soooo awesome! Carrying on from book one you get to learn more about the prophecy! There’s tons of action and adventure, the storyline continues to develop and the characters continue to grow and the drama and suspense will have you on the edge of your seat! Totally epic!

Shiro is a copper mage escaping the camps. He has been there since The Eradication and formed bonds with other mages who are now fleeing. They become separated as they reach their last goal and Shiro is not sure if he was betrayed but hopes he wasn’t. He is later rescued with the guru informing him that he is now the copper elite and needed in the coming battles. Jae and Mayhara are working together to find more elite mages and keys before Naree and the forces aligned with Kashmeru find them. Jae is able to decipher a list of possible places of key people needed for the prophecy and they split up to find them first. Both run into trouble but they are able to secure more mages along with the golden elite. However, the group is discovered before they can reach their safe house. They also realize they are missing key pieces of information and make plans to find out more.
I am trying to give plot away without spoiling too much, I hope I did a decent job. I can appreciate the undertones of the romance between Jae and Mayhara, that they have a bigger goal but they are definitely noticing each other and not letting that sidetrack from the main plot. The new faces we meet are going to be interesting to watch as they form a group and work together. I am eager to start the next one.

Held in a prison camp like many other mages, Shiro has no clue he has become the elite copper mage; but what he knows is the threat to his life is becoming real, and he has to pull the escape attempt now or never. Injured, he is saved by a swamp witch and found by his former guru Darshana to be reunited with other elite mages and to join the quest to save the Lotus Empress from Kashmeru - and from herself under his influence.
While Mayhara and Jae's story continues, we get to know more characters on the way that are joining them, and are uncovering more secrets about the legend, as well as revealing more background facts on the Pishacha and the shadow army. It's pitiful to watch young Naree being caught in the middle, innocent as she was and hopelessly manipulated, but the mages out there to save her come out all very strong and capable, well-trained to use their magic wisely and precisely. The closer the comet approaches, the closer the fated moment comes, and time is running out..

This is the 2nd in the Empire of the Lotus series. I absolutely LOVED book one, but this one was friggin epic!! In this one we get an inside look into the camps, up-close-and-personal. And we see just how far the other side is willing to go to keep the Lotus Empress out of the hands of the Mages, as well as to try to stop the mages from using their magic. We get to see how some of the powers work on different levels and which colors correspond to which abilities. There is love, hate, battles, war, blood, magic, death, betrayal, loyalty, and so much more. I am completely invested in the characters in this story. They've got me on the edge of my seat and dying to know what happens next. I can't wait to find out!!

Summary: A mix of many fantasy and SF themes. Doesn't quite work for me, but lots of action and the plot moves along quickly. Refreshingly short (except of course the next book follows on, so not really)
Second book very similar to first.

Plotline: Underlying plot seems unlikely, but having said that it all moves on very quickly

Premise: No. It just doesn't work

Writing: The reader is right there in the action and an interesting set of characters

Ending: Next book. Poor.

Pace: Never a dull moment!

Well this story just keeps getting better and better. We continue we’re book one stopped and we are seeing more and more action throughout the story. We are learning so much about the prophecy. The story is extremely well written and the characters are beautifully developed. Their personalities can be felt throughout the story. It is packed full of drama and suspense. We meet new characters in the second story that will be vital in the story. This is a must read!!!!

Copper Mage by Dorothy Dreyer is the second in her Empire of the Lotus Series. Mayhara is back, working with her friends to find the remaining Elite Mages and try to find a way to rescue Lakshmi from Kashmeru before he ends the world.

Again, you feel a part of this world, feel you know these characters and are fighting with them throughout their battles. I can’t get enough of this Series! 5 full stars.

Book 2 sprang to life even more than book one. More details are given about the prophesies, plus the characters truly carried their roles much more deeply. I found more of my emotions lining up with the suspense and intrigue. I enjoyed book one, but book two grabbed at me, and I found myself in sync with the frustrations and fears of the characters. Magic is at play, and I believe the pages are infused with it.

Second in its series and we are meeting soooo many new people. Mayhara & Jae are on their quest to find the Seven Keys & Daggers to prevent the prophecy of old to come true; world damnation. This book came to life more than book one. Arcane daggers, mysterious scrolls, hidden prophecy information and oh the magic! I seriously love how each character has its own roll in this series and have already continued to book 3. Im addicted and they’re quick!

If I thought book 1 was fast-paced and brilliant, then I better come up with a better vocabulary to describe the second book. Wow! The magical system, the suspense, the inside look at those camps - everything is heightened the second time around, which only made the reading experience more enjoyable. Bravo, Ms. Dreyer!

“Empire of the Lotus” by Dorothy Dreyer, is a series that blends epic and urban fantasy with and Asian themed apocalyptic world into one of the most original stories of the moment. “Copper Mage”, the second installment on the series is even better than its processor, surely it profits from the thoroughly world building of book one and thus it can focus deeply in the story.

Kashmeru still has the actual incarnation of the Lotus Empress under its control, forcing the best mages of the empire to joint the fight against the ancient god. Unfortunately, the mages have been outlawed by the New Asian Administration, even Mayhara (MC), the strongest of them, who pledged her alliance to the New Order, now she has to dodge the Imperial police to join the quest to find and free the Empress. Shiro, who has been trapped in prison for year, attempts a break to join the quest, because the mages need all the help they can gather. This book offers a wonderful in deep look at the camps and the daily life into the governmental facilities, expanding the Lotus-world along with the action. Warning cliffhanger ahead 😊

Dorothy Dreyer has crafted a beautiful, multidimensional world, populated by a great variety of characters, filled with description and detail and a mix of Indian, and East Asian mythology. A clear recommendation for fans of dystopian/fantasy stories with an Asian background.
