I was born in Hamilton New Zealand. My passion had always been writing. Yet life just seemed to get in the way. Somehow career choices always came first. I met a man who I was to spend the next 34 years of my life with. Sadly I lost my husband to cancer last year. It was the reality of now being on my own that I decided the time has come to write. The funny thing is I can't write directly onto my computer. Every time I log on I seem to waste such a lot of time. I surf the internet, check on Facebook, play chess anything but write. The answer to my problem was close at hand. I simply open an exercise book and armed with a pencil the words come. I love it because I can sit outside in my garden or go to the beach my story is always with me. I love the fact that a crisp blank page is suddenly filled with characters taking a journey of discovery. My husband and I moved to Whanganui six years ago. A beautiful city on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It was here that we found out my husband was terminally ill. I now live alone with three cats, and my German Shepherd dog Rosie. My life is full of adventures, mayhem, and mischief but when you get to my age, anything is possible. I enjoy reading, fishing and sipping cocktails on the beach with my girlfriends. Whanganui is a vibrant city. Fantastic and friendly people live here. I am lucky to live near the sea. The majestic Whanganui river gently flows past my door. One hour’s drive from Whanganui are three beautiful snowy mountains all volcanic. Yikes!!!

This is third book in the series. I think they are better read in order. Emmerson is happily married to her husband Denver. They own a pawn shop. They aren’t well off but they aren’t struggling either. Then everything starts to change. She worries that her husband has gotten himself involved with some shady people. Turns out she was right. Now her husband is dead and those people have come to her for her part of the shop. She signs it over as she wants nothing to with them. Now she has money but nothing else really. She must figure out what to do next. About a year later she meets Sully. He is retired from the business. They like each other and get along well. So, she agrees to go out with him. She is once again thrown a curve ball when they are attacked and she is told to flee the city and not look back. So, she does. She finds herself in Birch Harbor with nothing and no one. But the fun doesn’t stop there. There is one more surprise for her. I think this story had more back story for her and that is why she is my favorite woman so far. The book was still on the short side but I felt more connected to the character in this book. I felt like even though her story is the most complicated it is still the best so far. I am loving these women and can’t wait to meet the next widow. Great job Nancy.

Emmerson is my favorite widow in this series to date, because it seemed to me that their was more backstory before she had to start over, which is what I was dying for in the previous books. It started out with a suspenseful bang, and it just didn't seem rushed, though I would absolutely LOVE more to be honest here. Emmerson has been satisfied in her marriage to Denver, and they own their own business which afforded them with a comfortable life, but when Denver took on partners, she trusted him enough to go along with it, until he dies. Afterwards, she's experiencing some big red flags after she selling her share to those who her husband picked. So Emmerson was becoming more & more certain they were involved with illegal shenanigans but what could she really do about it, so for the next year, she finds herself sitting at home at odds with her life, which morphed into a whole new makeover for everything in her life. Next up, she runs into Sully, who has retired from the so called business so at that point she & Sully begin a relationship, and tragedy enters her life a second time, which scares her badly because she realizes she's in grave danger. That leads to a 3rd time of starting over, only this time she finds herself in Birch Harbor, where she makes friends with Tatum (Book 1), in the quest for a more quiet, normal life. And even after all of this, there's still a HUGE twist that has me dropping loud f-bombs by the end, so yeah, what an exciting book which kept me on the edge of my seat, and at this point, all I can do is encourage everyone to one click this bad boy so you find out what happened! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Danger echoes from start to finish.

Emmerson was satisfied in her marriage to husband Denver, a pawn broker. They had a comfortable life, paid their bills, enjoyed their lives. Business takes a sudden turn, and Denver has more money to spend and seems happier.

Although she wonders at the changes, Emmerson hesitates to ask what is behind these changes. Then she finds herself in front of a funeral director- with services already paid. She is smart enough to remove herself from the partnership Emmerson never knew Denver was a part of, and she mourns in shock.

Finally surfacing from her grief encircled existence, Emmerson encounters Sully and an intense romance. More horror leaves her once again grief stricken and in fear for her life.

Moving to Birch Harbor, she settles down. No happy romance ahead here, as she discovers a cold and manipulative daughter to her lover. Some situations are not worth the trouble.

More strange twists lead to links with other Birch Harbor friends, and not all are happy, fond memories.

Birch Harbor is a strong KU village of women who are damaged, yet remarkable.

All I can say is give me the next one please - I can barely wait!

Emmerson was a devoted wife to Denver. When he suddenly took on partners, she didn't question him. But when he dies, she accepted their offer and sold her share of the business - they were creepy, and she was certain that they were involved in illegal dealings. For a year, she sits home by herself, until she decides that she needs a makeover - for herself, for her hair, for her life. Soon after, she runs into Sully, who's retired from the "business" now, and they begin a relationship, although she questions herself every step of the way. When he's murdered in front of her, she realizes that she's not safe, and leaves for Birch Harbor. She tries to have a normal life there, and eventually becomes friends with Tatum (from the first book). I really loved this book - short enough to read in an afternoon, and the story moves right along. There's a huge plot twist near the end that I never expected. I like Emmerson's character, and how she transformed herself when she had no other choice. I'm really looking foward to the rest of this series.

The stories are all very, very short (and I enjoy short stories). But in this case the backstory which covers years is a few sentences and you are left to fill in the rest yourself which means it is hard to empathise with a character since you have not had any sort of journey with them. I loved the idea behind the series but the execution is very poor, they are more like author notes for books than an actual full book.

This is the third book in the series and each one is less believable than the one before. I will not be reading anymore of the set. This story covers Emmerson whose husband becomes involved with some shady characters or so the write up says. However, while the story does also suggest this it then goes on to a complete u turn with no explanation. Emmerson was shallow and poorly written and there seemed little point to the digression into Simon and his daughter. The worst book of the 3.

In my mind I’ve named Nancy George’s Widows of Birch Harbor series “quickie romances”; they take 20-30 minutes to read, they contain the fundamentals of a romance book and they come with satisfying happy-ever-after endings.

Well, this tale certainly held some unexpected twist and turns! Not only does Emmerson Patrick's husband die in suspicious circumstances but the next man to catch her eye has her involved in an incident that both shocks and scares her so much that she flees to a small town to hide out - in this case, Birch Harbor. Even in Birch Harbor, life is not as quiet as Emmerson had hoped, and a final revelation means Emmerson needs to make choices about the direction her life will take.

My advice is just to jump in and start reading. Writing any more will likely result in spoilers, and that would ruin your reading experience.

Hiding out in Birch Harbor may open up a whole new life

Emmerson if is a woman who has tried to start again after losing her happy life with a loving husband that she was more than content with. But her reboot does not go quite as planned and when her new boyfriend is killed in front of her she decides to relocate and start over once again. She relocates to Birch Harbor and becomes friends with Tatum, from the first book in the series, along with some other people who are not as nice and caring. Will Emmerson be able to find happiness and contentment with a new life in Birch Harbor or will things follow her her too? In the end Emmerson will have to make choices about what she truly wants.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This is book three in the Widows of Burch Harbor series. Emmerson feels like her life is good, her and her husband, Denver live comfortably with his pawn shop business and they are happy. But things start changing and so does her husband. Their lifestyle becomes richer and then one day, Denver is dead. This is the beginning of the twist that Emmerson's life takes as she moves on after her husband passes away. A great shorter length story that makes for a great escape. Enjoy!

If you enjoy short, HEA reads, then this series will definitely be up your alley. Emmerson is a wonderful short read with a storyline that brings you from the death of her husband to the death of a new lover, right into the small town of Birch Harbor where she finds a possible new love. But a selfish daughter and a ghost from her past have her heading down a new path to love.

Wonderful characters will capture you attention and hold it through to the end.

I am so loving this series! I highly recommend this book and this series.

Short, quick read. I enjoyed the story but would have loved a little more detail. Emmerson was a woman whose life had been turned upside down and took a while to settle down. The attraction she felt with Sully made her life better, and I was happy for her. Danger kept the excitement going, and I liked the ending. Birch Harbor sounded like a nice small town, and I look forward to reading more in this series.

OMG! I can't even come up with the right words to describe this incredibly suspenseful story. Drama, romance, and twists and turns you didn't see coming. Highly highly recommend! A very quick read, I finished it in less than 3 hours but such a detailed story. Written so well there's not a dull or boring spot in the story.

Each one of these books pulls you in a totally different way and I love that.
Emmerson and her husband Denver had a pawn ship and lived comfortably then he starts bringing more money in and of course she worries then he is gone and she sees someone else and that ends badly also.
Then she goes to Birch Harbor and finding women she has at least one thing in common with.
I am so ready for the next book!!!

A place you can call home. A place that heartache and love for hand in hand. This place is both a HEA town, and a town of heartbreak. These women are so strong and resilient and never give up no matter what happens. I love these widows so much!!

Emerson is living the life. Then it takes a turn for the worst and secrets are unveiled. A great story with heartbreak and redemption for this widow, with the past widows making appearances.

“So far, Emmerson has become my favorite widow of this series. It was an extremely short story but the backstory was simply marvelous. As expected, Emerson life turns upside down and it took her some time to finally settle down. She deserved to be happy, I’m glad she got to know someone like Sully. I couldn’t have ask for a different ending.

A wonderful story with great characters. I recommend you this story”

Emmerson is the third book in the wonderful The Widows of Birch Harbor series. This short story brings Emmerson from the death of her husband to the death of the new man in her life and then to Birch Harbor. This is a great story that has death, suspense, and unexpected twists that will alter Emmerson's life as she knows it.
