A graphic-novel series for emerging readers about the simple magic of true friendship
Easy-going Fox and anxious Rabbit seem like total opposites. But, somehow, they make the perfect pair! Whether searching for hidden treasure or planting a garden in their own backyard, Fox and Rabbit find everyday magic at every turn. On this first adventure, the pair will discover some new favorite things like sunsets, dandelions, and cotton candy. And they’ll face new fears like heights, swimming, and (poisonous!) frogs. Thankfully, there’s nothing Fox and Rabbit can’t do together!
Beth Ferry is the author of the picture books Stick and Stone and Land Shark. Her family has cared for myriad pets, including two land sharks, a hedgehog, a blue-tongued skink, and a heap of hamsters, but her absolutely perfect pet is an English bulldog named Winston. She lives in New Jersey.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is an adorable graphic novel about two unlikely friends - Fox and Rabbit. I love their adventures together and their friendship is just adorable. I look forward to reading more about these two in future novels.
This was a really cute young reader graphic novel. The characters were sweet and their adventures were adorable. The art was well done. I really liked that it was a series of connecting stories instead of one big story. I can’t wait to share this one with my nephew. I definitely will be keeping an eye out for the future collections. Fox and Rabbit may not be the most likely friends but they are excellent at taking care of and supporting each other.
Fox & Rabbit is such an adorable celebration of friendship and the small things in life that I just want to read it again and again.
The five chapters in the book are five stories about a little adventure that Fox and Rabbit go on together, and the sense of whimsy is infectious. Watching Fox and Rabbit go with the flow and explore whatever each new day brings them actually made me really sad I have a job and can't simply head off to the beach or to set up a lemonade stand because the mood struck me or something in the universe seemed to be suggesting I do it.
However, the book did bring back to me a feeling of childlike wonder and feeling that each new day could bring something fun and unexpected, even if that something is small.
I also loved watching Fox and Rabbit go on their trips together. From the very first page, the reader can tell they're best friends and just get each other. Even if they disagree or don't see eye-to-eye, that always have each other's backs. They know when to push each other to try new things and when to just sit and wait.
The artwork is also incredibly adorable. Fox, Rabbit, and their other friends are so expressive, and one can read so much more into the story by looking at their faces. The artist also does some creative work with the use of frames, which I think visual readers and fans of graphic novels will appreciate.
This may be a series intended for "emerging readers," but it brought a little sunshine to my soul, and I think anyone would enjoy it.
I super-trooper adored this fun and light-hearted children’s graphic novel. I would be delighted to read more by this author or have it in my library for my preschoolers and kinders. Thank you to Abrams Kids and NetGalley for this advanced copy.
The adorable illustrations and witty dialogue make this a perfect addition to any library for the preschool and kindergarten set. I’ll be buying this as a gift for several kids. Highly recommended!

I love the adventures Fox and Rabbit have. They are such great friends that enjoy having fun together. This book had a few stories.
The first story they both go to a fair. Fox has a swell time winning, while Rabbit cannot win anything. At the end they enjoy the fireworks and the time at the fair.
The second story they go to the beach. Fox can't wait to go swimming, while Rabbit found every excuse to do anything to avoid the water. He is super scared of the water. Rabbit decides to dig the deepest hole. Fox finally gets him in the water and he loved it. They enjoyed the sunset and find a message in a bottle.
Their next adventure is the map they found inside the bottle. They are supposed to find a secret island, but they need to cross high mountains and creepy smelly waters. They were both brave and made it to the island, but didn't find what was so fantastic about this place. They enjoy their company and nature.
The last story Sparrow teaches them how to garden. They worked so hard to see their plants grow to find them all eaten. Rabbit just couldn't help himself.
I love Fox and Rabbit's adventure, because they always play together and go on adventures together. There are times where one is having a happier time but at the end they work together to make each other happy. The illustrations are so cute. I love the turtle arriving at the end of each chapter asking if he missed anything. That is super funny.
Is this a book for clinic and not for me? Yes. Do I still laugh at the end of every chapter when the turtle shows up miserably late and asks what he’s missed? Yes.
Fox and rabbit are an unlikely pair of best friends, but also the cutest. Rabbit has a rather anxious nature and Fox is heavily invested in words that begin with the letter F. Both are fond of sandwiches, adventures, and good surprises. But not zingers, those are bad surprises. The book is made up of five stories, all following on from the other, all filled with hilarious scenarios and more than a pinch of sarcasm from our two wonderfully quirky characters.
Fox and Rabbit is by far my favourite children's book of the year so far, it's very, very funny (some might say it's super trooper funny), the illustrations are just beautiful and more important than anything, it's all about friendship. This will be read time and time again, an instant classic.
Fox and Rabbit enjoy doing many things together, such as looking at cloud shapes. When one of those shapes turns out to be a chunk of cotton candy, it leads them to the local fair. This begins a series of adventures involving playing at the beach, treasure hunting, and gardening. Along the way they have their share of ups and downs, with arguments, fears, and hurt feelings occurring. But as in all good friendships, they work things out and manage to have plenty of fun along the way. The book is broken up into five stories, but each story leads into the next, connecting the whole book. Fox and Rabbit make for a cute pair in their friendship ups and downs. The graphic panels are easy to follow, with bright, fun illustrations, making this a great book for young readers. I also enjoyed the humorous touches, such as the bird who is always talking about food, and the turtle who keeps showing up after everything ends and asks what he missed. A fun new graphic novel series for early chapter book readers.
This was a nice choice to introduce kids to graphic novels. It also helps that it’s a reading level for those getting used to chapter books and working on improving reading comprehension skills.
Originally, the kids I teach were going to read a story a day since there are 5 stories. That can work but all the stories are tied to each other so we ended up reading it all in one day. The art was really well done but I thought the dialogue and stories could have been better. The kids enjoyed it but weren’t dying to continue reading the series. Glad we gave it a try though.
A very cute little book on the power of friendship. Rabbit is a bit afraid of everything. Fox is always getting into a new adventure. Together, they grow in their patience, problem solving skills, and new friendships. There are five different stories in the book and all of them tackle a unique set of problems and answers! Endearing and worth a look through.
Simplistic and adorable graphic novel about two best friends and life's little adventures. I love the dialogue and interaction between Fox and Rabbit, as they remind me of my own friendships. I eagerly await more adventures from this super-trooper duo!
This is so adorable. I love the adventures that Fox and Rabbit have, especially after Fred the Lion joins them. Sparrow is always eating and so funny when Sparrow is fighting the seagull for the french fry! And turtle at the end of each chapter so cute. Fox and rabbit really compliment each other and push each other which is just lovely. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Recomendo a todas as idades.
Follow along as friends Fox and Rabbit embark on five summer adventures, from an evening at the fair to a day at the beach. Each story continues the narrative thread from the previous adventure, while also managing to teach subtle lessons about friendship and provide plenty of comic relief. Hand this book to young readers who are looking for something a bit more challenging than first readers.
Fox: I see a whale. Rabbit: Me too. Fox: I see a carrot. Rabbit: Me too. Fox: Now I see a crab. Rabbit: Me too. Fox: I just made that up. I didn't really see a crab. Stop copying me. Rabbit: I wasn't copying you. I was just being nice. Fox: Humph.
Premise/plot: Fox and Rabbit are best friends who star in Beth Ferry's graphic novel for young readers. There are five stories in this early chapter/graphic novel:
Each story gently leads to the next. The first story starts off with some cloud gazing, one cloud reminds them of COTTON CANDY which leads them to notice the fair that just happens to be close by. The two have a day of it--enjoying themselves more often than not. But the pair can't help noticing the fair is the UN-FAIR fair. It isn't easy to WIN a game and get a prize. FRED (who will go on to star alongside Fox and Rabbit on all their subsequent adventures) is a stuffed lion that is eventually won by the end of the day. A beach ball is another prize...
The second story occurs at a beach. Remember the two just won a beach ball! Fox and Rabbit share another day of fun--mostly. Sometimes a friend has to coax the other along a bit. In this case, Fox has to coax Rabbit into the water.
Rabbit: I feel a crab! Fox: There are no crabs. Rabbit: I see a whale! Fox: There are no whales. Rabbit: I hear a shark! Fox: How can you hear a shark? Rabbit: It's a singing shark. Fox: There's no such thing. That's just Sparrow fighting with some sea gulls.
At the end of a very long day, they discover a message in a bottle...
The third story is the adventure of following a treasure map to Surprise Island....this time the two are doing a friendly bicker about whether it will be a good surprise or a bad surprise (bad surprises are zingers.)
The fourth story is about the two planting the seeds that were the surprise on surprise island. This story actually has a bit of a surprise at the very end....poor Rabbit!
The fifth and final story (in this collection) features a seedling. Turns out that one of the seeds planted is a LEMON. And when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade for a lemonade stand naturally!
My thoughts: I love, love, love, love, love Fox and Rabbit. A few weeks ago I reviewed the second book in the series. I thought it was adorable and practically perfect in every way. This first book did not disappoint. I am excited to read the third book of the series soon--it is newly published.
I love the humor. I love the friendship. I love the give and take between two friends who are close to one another. I love how they each make the other a better person. I love the dialogue. I love the illustrations.
Fox and Rabbit are best friends. In this collection of 5 stories, they visit the fair where Rabbit learns about disappointment and Fox gets some help being brave; on a day trip to the beach, Rabbit finds lots of ways to avoid swimming; they spend a fun day at Surprise Island, where they learn that great surprises can be small things; when the friends grow a garden together, they discover that self control is a problem; and what happens when your tree grows lemons? You sell Lemonade!
There is so much to love about Fox & Rabbit! The story is engaging and funny and full of lessons about friendship and supporting each other. Gergely Dudas' illustrations are marvelous! A mostly 2 character graphic novel is great for an early reader and it lends itself perfectly for a shared read. I loved the on-going gag with Turtle showing up at the end of every chapter asking "What did I miss?" Oh, my grandson is going to love this!
