Full disclosure, I read this as an e-book. I came across multiple spelling and grammatical errors that distracted me from some of the content of this book and ultimately undermined the validity of some of the information. I am unfamiliar with the authors, so I cannot vouch for them, and I also don’t want to be unfair, as the errors could be a result of converting the book to an e-book.

That being said, I found this book after looking for books on “thoughts on thoughts” or critical thinking about thinking.

Overall, this book had some good information as well as did a good job framing some of the ideas around critical thinking. It was also peppered with some practical applications, some of which I fully intend to implement into my daily life.

However, I felt as though the structure of the book hindered its maximum effectiveness. Each chapter was short while still being riddled with subsections. I felt as though I was getting shallow information about a lot of subtopics under the umbrella of critical thinking with an occasional golden nugget.

I have yet to find a great book on critical thinking, or one that meets my expectations of what I am looking for. I am unsure if my desired book on critical thinking exists, as it is a very abstract topic, but I will continue my pursuit as this book was not it.

When they say "beginner", they are underselling it. I only made it three chapters in, and I kept waiting for some information I didn't already know, a deeper insight, anything that wasn't incredibly superficial. Alas, I was treated to such self-evident statements such as "Critical thinkers are good at problem-solving because they follow problem-solving steps" and "As long as you are alive, you will have thoughts and make decisions each day of your life." I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was... not great. The tone was reminiscent of a 1970s element school educational film.
Anyway, after three chapters I decided life is too short for awful books. If it gets less insipid after that, I couldn't say.

I was hoping for more depth on topics such as cognitive biases, logical reasoning and the scientific method. Instead this book was very broad, general and vague. There was very little value to the content here.
