Detective Annalise Storm of the HPD was not pleased to hear her Captain say that her new partner was Devlin Madoc! He was part of the reason her dear friend and servant/beast, Mavel, was on the run right now! And her “pureblood” political father further complicated things by encouraging Devlin to marry her to put an end to rumors of a secret relationship with the “lower class modded”, Mavel! But without a partner, she would not be allowed to work the case at her old school where an allegedly possessed basilisk “modded” had attacked a security officer who killed her in self-defense. So she grudgingly accepted Devlin as partner – besides, he knew the Falcon Group’s activities well and she could use him for information about what had happened recently.

As they questioned the security officer at the school, he said the possessed woman he killed had attacked him by running toward him. Yet the lethal shots were to her back. He described her eyes as bloodshot, yet a sign of possession was that the eyes rolled back in the head. Before they could continue, the Principal stopped the questioning. Conveniently the security camera in that hallway had been turned off. Are Annalise and Devlin going to be able to work together to solve this mystery? There is more going on than anyone knows. And where is the escaped Mavel hiding? Will he return to keep Devlin from making his claim on Annalise?

One of the things I love about this author’s writing is that she creates a magnificent picture of the world these characters live in and lets the reader understand the society’s class structure, comprised of color-named districts and the strict classification of each social group in the population. All things are very regimented in the society! Reading the Case: 0 prequel will help greatly in appreciating this environment. The story line continues to be strong and action-oriented from the outset! The characters are well developed and have distinct personalities the reader can relate to. This was a really excellent book and I highly recommend it!

Annalise Storm is back with more trouble. Mavel is on the run and Anna is heartbroken. So she throws herself into her work with another possession case. The problem is they won’t let her work the case without a partner. This is made worse by the fact that they assign Devlin Madoc as her partner. This is made worse by her pureblood father telling Devlin to convince Anna to marry him to stop the rumors about Mavel.

If that was not enough on her plate, Anna thinks that there is something wrong with this latest possession case. The security guard said the woman was running at her when he shoots her yet she was shot in the back. Also, possessions have the whites of their eyes showing and had blood filled eyes. Once again Anna has her hands filled with a simple case that has much more happening than what is initially seen.

I love this series. This could be a standalone book but reading Case: 0 will give you more background information. Anna is worried about Mavel and I love how we learn more about him while he is in hiding. Anna is such a strong character although I admit there were times I wanted to shake her. I felt for her with the whole Devlin and her father trying to convince her into marriage.

This is an action packed book that will easily draw you in and leave you not wanting it to end just because it is that good. I love this series and have placed May Freighter on my shelf of authors to keep. I can’t wait to read more about Annalise Storm.

I received Case:1 from Silver Dagger Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Case 0 was the proof-fire case of Annalise. But now her view of Divinity has changed and she lost her marks. Yet she still wants to do her best and cling to her morals. Anna seems stuck on spider web and the struggles she faces when she discovers the rules of a game of power make us wonder what we could do in her place. I was sometimes irritated with our heroine then admirative because she still stands in the Storm.
I was enchanted to meet Monique and her servant, Daniel. I'm wondering if Aaron will later have a bigger part in the series. We discover more of Mavel and I must admit he finds ways to get under one's skin. But Mavel still wins in more than physics (tell that to Monique).
The plot got thicker with each page and the possession phenomena is still a mystery. We can assume Anna cannot resolve the Falcon-HPD Case alone. Allies and foes start to gravitate around her and she is becoming the knot that will balance the order of Divinity. The future of modded and pure-blood alike could be decided with her next decision.

As usual, the author leads her readers on a roller coaster ride involving tons of suspense, action, and surprises with her twists and turns. May Freighter describes Anna and the rest of the characters in such detail that you feel like you have known them for ages. As readers, we can easily relate to the characters because they are so vivid. May's use of words gives life to the world that Anna is part of giving her readers a chance to actively engage in it as well. She always gives her readers a full-on understanding of what is going on throughout the book so no reader feels lost. The author did a fantastic job in presenting the plot in a way that the readers would not have the mind to put down her book. She also does a fantastic job of providing readers with just enough information to keep them hooked till the ending. As always May Freighter has outdone herself with another fabulous book, can't wait to actively engage in the next part of Anna's life.

Case 1 picks up right where Case 0 leaves off. Although this is a stand alone story, you really must read Case 0 first. Not everything is resolved so we will need to keep reading the series for total resolution. Case 1 is a great story that keeps you guessing right up to the end. I find myself really invested and engaged with the characters - caring what happens to them. They seem real and believable. Annalise Storm isn't some super cop who always gets it right the first time.

I discovered May Freighter quite by accident from her other series she has written. I've read everything she has released so far and have not been disappointed yet. If I had a complaint, it would be that I have to wait for her to write the next one! I really am looking forward to it to see where Ms. Freighter will take us next.

Another great work of this author May, and her main heroine Anna. She is full of suprises and secrets in her pockets as well. It keeps a human interested to read more and shows the plot has feelings to the tiniest details about Anna and her life, her future and the crimes happening there.

It keeps one interested to the point where you wish that day had more hours so you can finish it in one go. For me it was the opportunity to challenge the fast reading to the enjoyment of reading book. I kept the middle road. I can´t wait to see another book of this awesome adventure filled story about Annalise and her beast and fiancé.

I encourage you to read Case 0 first. This book really kept my interest with all the action and surprises. I am really enjoying the characters and looking forward to reading more books in the series. The author does a great job of creating this world and connecting you to the characters. I like that it keeps you guessing and the romance is really coming along too.

Annalise is hot headed, outspoken and jumps to conclusions. Devlin is her new unwanted partner and unwanted finacé. The author explains why Annalise is this way and thinks differently from most other pure bloods. It takes prejudice to a whole new level! As to the murder, as one question gets solved, a several different ones pops up. If that’s not bad enough, the author throws in a twist to the plot that threatens a lot of Annalise’s co-workers, and the twists continues.

It broke my heart the end of the first book with what happened to Annalise and her partner Marvel... But in the second book I surrendered to Devlin, the new partner of Annalise and their chemistry! It's almost impossible to decide who I want her to be with... Almost... :)

Captivating Storyline!

I'm not much for dystopian stories, but this series has changed my opinion. Mysterious characters, clandestine organizations, and a well plotted storyline makes for a fantastic read.

We are still following Annalise Storm in her getting settled in HPD/Human Possession Division. After closing her first case and the loss of her partner Mavel, Annalise is now being partnered with Devlin. She is resistant to the idea but she still is very much trying to prove herself to her chief and partially to herself so she accepts the new case and being given a new partner.

Annalise is hoping spending time with Devlin with help her understand why part of her is attracted to Devlin and finding out what hold he may have over her father. Plus since he has ties to the underworld she is hoping that his knowledge will give them a leg up on solving the new case.

The story has tightened up a bit and not as much extraneous factors have been introduced. However the constant angst that Annalise is having about Mavel seems to be more manufactured than genuine. Plus the timeline seems to be a bit wonky with things happening in the case that don’t seem to jive with Annalise’s angst about Mavel and the last time she saw him. There was for a brief moment some more info on Mavel and I hoped to learn more about him and why Annalise started having non-platonic feelings for him. The moment with him was so brief and fleeting that you are left wondering if the author is going to drag out this Romeo and Juliet type of relationship till Case 20. To be honest I am losing interest in the relationship and just want the big reveal that has been hinted at about Devlin to finally come out.

The story seems to be putting more effort into Annalise and Devlin’s relationship than in actually bringing Annalise and Mavel together. The constant angst is making Annalise seem more like a hormonal teenage girl and not an officer of the law trying to catch bad guys. There are some parts of this case that seem to be missing or at least not concluded altogether. There are some nice elements in the story and Annalise being very much sympathetic to the modded help keep the story going. So less angst more story and the series could continue to grow and mature into something really good.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the first book in the Annalise Storm series, and was excited to get started reading this edition as soon as I could. I just re-read it yesterday to get ready to prepare myself for book 3 in this series that should be releasing soon.

In this book, Annalise is trying to make things work without the assistance of her 'beast' - that she has always loved...and learns out of nowhere everyone assumes she is engaged to another. She then is forced to work with him as her new partner on the force, and finds it terribly frustrating and a bit suspicious that she can't seem to keep her eyes off of him.

This story starts out seemingly simple...the guy wants the girl and the girl tries to resist...but as you read, you learn there is more to the story. The Storm family trying to keep up appearances and thus maintaining their power in society and Annalise is simply trying to set herself apart from the stigma that surrounds her family name.

If you are a fan of futuristic sci-fi fantasies with detective work involved and a bit of romance, you will enjoy reading this series.

Great continuation of the previous book, stormy and intriguing.
Now that it is official Annalise would be partnered with Devlin, she is truly displeased. Yes, he might be charming and trying to be helpful, but the professional relationship is one thing, private life another. With her father engaged in encouraging Devlin to marry her, she really has all the reasons to be pissed off. But she cannot escape the fate to cooperate with Devlin - otherwise she would be forced to give up the job. He might prove himself useful, after all. Solving the mystery is now Anna's top priority.
I loved the plot development, a story full of mystery and action, emotional and adventurous alongside. I also very much appreciate how the author makes the world vividand realistic. The characters are also well built, strong and distinctive personalities easy to identify with.
I received an ARC of this book and provide my honest feedback.

Detective Annalise Storm is s gloriously fantastic, complex, cool character and she makes May Freighter‘s Annalise Storm Chronicles series rise above others. I adored Case: 0 and am delighted to see this wonderful sci-fi mystery series return in Case: 1 (series book 2). Perfect as a mystery. Perfect as s sci-fi tale. Fantastic plot that superbly written and populated with a cast of characters (my personal favorite this time being Devlin Madoc, second to Annalise, of course). But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

This second book in the Annalise Storm series by May Freighter picks up smoothly from the end of the first book, except it now involves a new case and several new starring characters. It is still a good detective murder mystery story, but now there is also a developing personal closeness between the main characters. I like how she plays with the emotional side of her players, giving them very high highs and very low lows as the case progresses. Of course, the ending is set to welcome a potential book 3 in the series, which I hope she releases in the very near future, so I can see how these characters end up. This is a rather late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout.

Can one person really make a difference?

Terrific! A world segregated by class and one woman's attempt to make things better by joining the police force. After an illicit night with her "servant" she is now left on her own to cope whilst he goes into hiding. Will her new partner be a help or a hindrance? A death at her old school is her next case. Was this a result of murder or defence? Mix in drugs, an evil corporation leader, an engagement, blackmail and a human who has gone off the deep end and you have a great read. This is fast paced action and the insight into a futuristic future split by class is engrossing. A great read not only for fantasy readers but also fans of SF.

As I came to across this book, I can´t say I could to stop an itch to get to read it. I did and I enjoyed it a lot. The whole scenery of great 3D displays of scenes of mixed emotions, fights and each character is unique.

Many tangled parts where you search for answer don´t give you it a right away those answers you await. Should I say some more? If you wish for book full of danger, love, darkness and such devotions of two souls as two main characters are I recommend this one.

I love it. Your style is in each book more defined, the whole book is awesome. As I indulge into story line, more and more I am excited to see another book.

OK! I can't think of a thing that I would let someone blackmail me for. I would go out with a blazing gun. I am to stubborn to let something like that go on. ( Well, now that I have that out of my system.) The story is very well done, it makes you want to jump in and help. And I get upset with all the injustice and double standers. It is a good book and it is hard to read because I get upset. I have to leave for a little while but I keep coming back for more. I received an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 2 of the Annalise Storm Chronicles and it’s even better than the 1st one. There is a case of possession at Annalise’s old school and she is told to either take Devlin as her partner or not work the case at all, Annalise isn’t happy about being partnered with Devlin but she has no choice, she will only use him for information. Things don’t add up with the case at the school and she wants to know why the security guard lied about the possession. Another great read by May Freighter and I highly recommend this book.

I really don’t have the right words to explain what I just went through while reading this book. The web of political intrigue that surrounds Annalise is pulling tighter, all while she’s trying to figure out how to carry on without Mavel. I don’t know what I feel about Devlin. I can’t make up my mind just how trustworthy to believe he is. Now I’m absolutely rabid to see how the next book turns out.

Great

It was really interesting story, but it did tend to seen to make the main character kind of stupid. Showed her being really slow on the uptake of thing. Seeing as she was make a detective . But overall it was a very good story and will probably read the future stories about her.

I was hoping for more of a crime novel with romantic elements. But it's kind of the opposite and while I don't mind that, it's just that everything seems to be filled with drama! I just hope the next story in the series fixes this because I'm never a fan of Edward/Jacob situations.
