The Dutch Table is a sampler of 17th century Dutch art and recipes, a fun hybrid art- and cook book. There are many full-color images of Dutch paintings of food, still lifes and kitchen scenes and picnics. The author explains the paintings and their meanings and gives corresponding recipes adapted from 17th century Dutch sources.
(The recipes have to be adapted because, as fans of historic food know, old cookbooks are nothing like modern ones, leaving out things like amount of ingredients and cooking time.).
It's not a very big cookbook, but the recipes are good and the art history is made the more vivid for them.
