Lore is an Ancient and is just what his name describes - Lore. The lore of a thousand peoples and places, their magics and their beliefs all evolved over the passage of time and now walking the Earth as this male — Lore. He’s wandered this realm and the next for eons in search of his beloved mate. She was taken from him as punishment for his deviant behavior, and as retribution for betraying his own brother. He’s searched for so long he is near insanity — some even think he has crossed that line.

Evangeline is a true innocent, lured from the safety of her brethren by a beautiful, sensual male filled with promises and magics as old as time. She’s locked away from everything she loves. She has no idea why — she has no memories. They’ve all been stolen from her. All she does know is that she has to remain hidden. Those who tend her tell her that her love wants to kill her, and they keep her imprisoned for her own good. Now if she could only remember her love, maybe she’d know who she should be hiding from.

Lore refuses to cease his search for the female that holds not only his heart, but his soul. He’s long ago stopped believing that she’ll ever love him again — she doesn’t even remember him. But she’s locked away, treated as a prisoner in a place no innocent should ever be held, simply because she once loved him, she trusted him. And for that she suffers. He won’t stop until she can dance in the sunshine to her heart’s content, and he can hear her musical laughter on the winds. If it costs him his very existence, he’s willing to give it. Will he be able to find her this time, before his brother spirits her away from him again? He’s tired. He’s ready to give in to the insanity and nothingness that berate his mind on a daily basis. This is his last chance at saving her.

Warning: Intended for mature audiences. This book contains intimate love scenes, some violence, and possibly some abuse both real and inferred that may be disturbing for some readers. If you are offended by these subjects, please do not buy this book.

I write Paranormal, SciFi and Fantasy Romance. Why, you may ask? Romance, because who doesn’t love a good romance, and the lack of reality in the story lines - because, well, normal is highly overrated. I’m 55, I have two kids, one 32 and one 12 (yes, God does have a sense of humor), one grandchild, one husband, and a menagerie of animals. Literally, too damn many things that eat wandering around our property. I love to cook, and I am a voracious reader, though since I started writing I don’t get as much time to read as I once did. I am a homebody and prefer my writing/reading time to a crowd. I have had stories and fictional characters wandering around in my head for as long as I can remember. I started letting them out into the real world and surprisingly, people have loved them. I am a Self-Published Author, and I like it that way because I can decide what and when to write. I am by no means a formal, polished, properly structured individual and neither are my stories. But people seem to love the easy emotion and passion that naturally flow from them. A bit of a warning though, there are some “triggers” in them that certain people should avoid. I’m a firm believer that you cannot have light without the dark. You cannot fully embrace the joy and elation that my people eventually find if you do not bear witness to their darkest hours as well. So please be sure to read the warnings supplied with each of the synopses about my books before you buy them. I've got three series published at this time, Avaleigh's Boys - PNR, Whispers From the Bayou - Fantasy PNR, Haven - a SciFi, and three more in process. I’m a bit sarcastic, scathing actually, and a smartass to boot, so if I offend you, it is most likely not intentional. But be prepared because it probably won’t be the last time. I’m always glad to hear from readers; those who have followed me from the beginning, and those who have just found my people. So feel free to look me up and say hello, or just follow along; either way, I’m glad to have you.

Deep in the bayou is a place called the whispers were all kinds of paranormal live from vampires to gargoyles to sirens and witches and all kinds of creatures that call it home. But evil is getting closer and the ancient lore is becoming more insane as time goes by. THE search for his true love has drove him mad,but finally he has found his Evangeline ! He will need to go to the pits of hell and rescue her from the dark one. I always knew that lore was a dark being, always making deals with everyone and in this book we see his past and how he lost his mate. His purgatory is to watch the ones he loves the most suffer for his sins. I did a lot of crying when reading his story for many reasons, but I also laughed a lot too. This was a fabulous book and so much happened!!! I love so many of these characters and the way they care about each other is beautiful. I won't lie the goyles destroy, murder and my favorite gargoyle of all time carnage are my favorites and they were a large part of lore's story. Of course theirs the women of the whispers that I adore too ,such strong females worthy of their mates. And Lily carnage and carolena's daughter is growing into her powers and has become very powerful and will be what helps save all from the evil twisted Acaleo hell bent on destroying everyone lore holds dear. also new to this group are lore's sister luci and his brother terrus two very powerful anients. And murder may have found his mate while he was captive in hell,Phrygia is one of the dark ones guards and she may or may not be a demon!!! Can't wait to find out her story ! So many questions answered, but a few news ones to figure out! This series is one of my all time favorites!I wish I could tell you about everything that went on because lots of shit went down!!! Now I will have to wait patiently(not) for book 5!!! I friggin adore you Sandra R Neeley, you so rock!! Until next time luv's💖💋

Another fabulous addition to the series! Lore finally finds his mate but now he has to rescue her and everything that can go wrong, does. And of course his family runs to help. Gargoyles to the rescue!

I really love this series and Sandra R. Neeley keeps adding and expanding the world and I really loved the new additions. I'm also hoping we'll get books for them and in general see more of their side. Here, we got to find out more about Lore and why he is the way he is. We also find out what his relationship with Lily is exactly. I'm also hoping that Lily and Carrick will have an easier time of it in their book. My stupid book funk kept me from reading this sooner but thankfully I enjoyed it a lot. I will say that I have picked up and read the first few pages of dozens of books lately and just closed them exasperated. This is the first one in a while that I didn't close almost immediately and stuck with it till the end. Book funk is not cured but it abated for a while. These are the times I wish I wasn't a mood reader.

A special place in Hell!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌏
Character development: 🤒😌🙃😍😘

The heroine: Evangeline - She is imprisoned in Hell and has retreated into her mind. She has been told that she is in a tower in a castle for her own good being protected from her mate who wants to murder her.

The Hero: Lore - Lore is an ancient and has many powers. He eats the souls of evil people and for a long time the supernaturals at Whispers thought he was evil too. However, through the first three books in this series he has become family to many of the residence of the Whispers community. Especially Lily, the young daughter of Carnage and Carolena, whom he has some sort of connection to.

The Story: we have gotten some glimpses into Lore’s past in the prior books, but don’t know much about it at the start of this one. I knew he did something in his past that he (and others) are being punished for. I also knew the dragon (that is now a tree) is someone from Lore’s past that he may have done wrong in a way, but we don’t know much more about that at the start of this book, other than he has been trying to make up for it by mentoring and protecting Lily.

I have been loving this entire series. The characters are so endearing and the Whispers community of supernaturals, hidden deep in the Louisiana bayou is such a wonderful and whimsical setting. I just love Carnage and the fact that he can’t speak sentences, just a few words here and there, yet Carolena and Lily can both understand him perfectly. I love how Murder is such a good friend to everyone and a protector to all. I love how Destroy is like a huge child and how Enthrall is so giving and caring.

I just love who deeply connected the books on the series is and it has heavy themes of a found family. Whole each book is about on specific couple, a lot of characters show up in each book. I was glad I've read a lot about Lore getting into it as it gave a lot of substance to his less that kind past. The heroine do feel kinda like each other and a lot of similar themes in the couples. But the deep connections between all the characters and the overall plot growing witch each book is great. Excited to read the next.

GREAT ADDITION TO THE SERIES!!!
Title: Lore
Series: Whispers From The Bayou
Author: Sandra R. Neeley
Designation: Book 4 of Series, Not Recommended As A Standalone, Full-Length Novel, No Cliffhanger #paranormal #fantasy #romance
My Rating: Three Rising Stars***
**Although Lore could probably be read as a standalone and does NOT end with a cliffhanger, this reviewer recommends reading the books of the series sequentially to enrich your reading experience and avoid possible spoilers. Also, this book does contain references to sexual violence and, though skillfully written, may serve as triggers for some readers.

Earlier this year, I received a recommendation via newsletter for a recently released science fiction romance entitled Haven 1: Ascend by Sandra R. Neeley. Having never read any of Neeley’s work, I was somewhat hesitant to make the purchase, but I’m totally addicted to science fiction and have been for almost 60 years, plus the endorsement came from a trusted author I follow. I’m always on the lookout for talented new writers, so after reading the blurb and short sample on Amazon, I made my purchase and dove in. Best decision ever! Despite a few problems, particularly the third person omniscient narrative, I enjoyed the story immensely and decided to try more of Neeley’s work and purchased her ongoing Whispers of the Bayou Series. The world, characters, and story arc created by Neeley for this series are imaginative, original, captivating, and quite simply extraordinary, but her execution and style definitely need work. Sandra Neeley has gathered quite a loyal following for her work in a relatively short period of time, and that definitely includes me. I’ve become quite a fan of Whispers, a secret settlement located deep in the Bayou of Louisiana, as well as its diverse group of quirky residents. I especially love the characters Neeley created to populate this small community of unusual paranormal/supernatural beings. But as much as I hate to be a ‘Negative Nellie (please, don’t shoot the messenger), I must be honest, which I strive to do in all of reviews, and state that Lore is one of the worst examples/executions of a third person omniscient perspective narrative I’ve ever encountered, and I've read thousands upon thousands of books. The nonstop head hopping and changing points of view, frequently multiple times in one paragraph, was enough to cause reader whiplash. It was beyond distracting and, even worse, caused a severe disconnect between me and the characters. Quite often, it’s difficult to actually discern the identity of the protagonist but, thankfully, the name of the primary character is the title of the book. Yet, I couldn't stop reading. I felt compelled to keep turning the pages. In her official bio, Neeley states: ‘I am by no means a formal, polished, properly structured individual and neither are my stories. But people seem to love the easy emotion and passion that flow from them.' And make no mistake, her stories are brimming with raw emotion, soulful passion, heartbreaking angst, edge of your seat action, adventure and suspense, and so much more. But why waste so much potential talent and be mediocre when, with a little work and effort, Neeley could be a truly exceptional writer? Neeley's writing certainly has its merits, like powerful character development, richly detailed world building, vibrant scene depictions, intriguing conflicts, easy to follow plot progressions, and good overall syntax. but again, her choice of narrative style needs to be refined. The suspense surrounding Lore’s character has been building throughout the first three books and, no doubt, has been the most highly anticipated book of the series thus far, but I was somewhat disappointed by the split focus of the story. There was too much attention given to the secondary characters, their thoughts, and their feelings, dividing the reader’s attention and distracting us from Lore and Evangeline’s love story, which brings me to another point and the reason I would not recommend this book as a standalone. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, some new and others from previous books. Granted, they’re all intriguing, but readers new to the series may find themselves a little lost. However, we did get long awaited answers to many of the questions surrounding Lore, his origins, and backstory. So, in conclusion, did I like this book? Yes, very much. Will I read this author again? Most definitely. Neeley set the hook for next story in the final chapter of this book, which will feature gargoyle Murder and his former captor, supposed demon guard Phrygia. Yeah, Neeley totally reeled me in with that little plot bunny. Would I recommend this book? Yes, but conditionally. Only for adults and readers who don’t mind a questionable version of a third person omniscient narrative with unstructured, somewhat confusing, sometimes indiscernible, and constantly changing perspectives. And finally, was I entertained? Completely!

So far I love this series. Let me just say the world created is pretty amazing although I'm not a fan of Louisiana I do love the whole swamp atmosphere she creates and it makes the perfect hideaway from humans. The Seminole Natives used it exactly that way though mostly in Florida. Her characters are well defined and she always brings in previous characters and their stories. It is best to read this series in sequence so that the world building and characters all jive and continue to build. I can't wait to continue these stories. I'm sad that the last is the Christmas book......Two Thumbs UP! This will be on all the items as I don't like to give away story lines or plots, you can read that in the blurb, why rewrite it? I've always wondered why reviewers do that. Instead, I want to know exactly how the reader feels. I have and will stay up at night to finish one of these. LOL

A twisted yet romantic tale

This is book four of the series and the focus is on Lore and his angelic Evangeline. Lore was not always happy or good, really her was an entitled jerk. Lore was selfish and childish. He has a chaotic past and made a few awful choices. His mate Evangeline, his brother Murder, his Lily and his powers are all on the line. He has to go up against his corrupted family members to make things right but Lore will not be able to do it alone. Book four really provided a good history for Lore and his family. In the storyline there are triggers for kidnapping, abuse, torture, etc. All the babies seem to happen off page, but I really wished that the author would have written some of those experiences with the Whispers family. It’s a beautiful story with a thoughtful ending. Read On!

Um, wow!

Lore was a jerk to Evangaline. But luckily he learned his lesson. I do question whether she was manipulated slightly by Lore's sister.

Review

This has been a very memorable series so well written and just plain fun to read. The characters are full and likeable and I'll miss them, I can only hope that their is more to come but this author didn't feel the need to give me any info on future works. I didn't like that part.

I’m sorry to have to write this review as I love Sandra’s books but this was really unsatisfactory for me.

I had such huge expectations for Lore, he was such an interesting character but this book made him so much more dull and one dimensional. He felt like a completely different person.

It’s 3 strikes and you are out as they say in baseball but this crossed that so long ago I stopped even counting. To share a few :

- The whole book was retold to us rather than experiencing what was happening which kills the opportunity for the reader to get immersed into the story.

- The story itself was not long at all. What I mean was, Lore shared with Murder what brought on the current situation in a couple of pages and that was it. The rest of the books was just a longer recap of this memory ... I’m sorry but this could have easily been a side story in another book. It did not need a full book for this.

Some spoilers ahead!!!

You were warned!

But then again, you deserve to know what you are getting into so .... go on !

- we did not see any start or even development of a relationship for the main H and h. They saw each other , said “you are mine” and then went onto a blurry recollection of events and lots of lost memories.. that was it .. I have no idea how they fell in love or why.. I did not feel as if they actually loved each other . I was told they are in love .. I was told he was her love .. but that was it ! Absolutely no relationship development... nothing -_-

- I heard about all other couples much more than about the main H and h.. they did not have any time together in the book.. they were both missing 90% of the book and even when they were not , we were reading about the other couples and not about them.

This is not such a big deal but still a disappointment
- we did not get any sexy times... we got a couple of kisses, I think but I can’t really remember that clearly because they were brief and boring, and we got a memory of a little sexy time from long ago and this was while current Lore was watching that memory so I can’t even consider that this was him as he was more of a bystander

- I read the whole book and I still don’t know anything about the main girl.. I know her name and what she was and that’s it .. there was absolutely no personality developed for me .. she was just ... meh?! She had basically less than 10 lines for the whole book.. ( don’t quote me on the exact number, haven’t actually counted them) if that’s not ridiculous I don’t know what is. I read a review that said she was strong female character - ‘I’m sorry , how did you guess that ? she was just a boring side note that I don’t understand why he even fell for her.

Only thing good I can say was that we got lots of time with the rest of the family from the bayou and there was an interesting development with Murder. I really hope this leads to an interesting book because I cannot take another book where I could care less about the main couple. Sandra is generally a good writer and it would not put me off or reading other books from her and I’ll consider that this was just a one off slip.

*WARNING* for readers ages 18+ due sexual content and language
Lore is an ancient who is slightly unhinged. Lore has been searching the realms for many years, searching for his true mate, only to have her snatched away again.
She has been in this awful place for what feels like forever. She has no memories. She doesn't know her own name. She only sees a purple mist sometimes and it talks to her so she's not afraid.
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. This story answers so many of the nagging questions about Lore that the prior books of this series left unanswered. Even some about precious Lily! I have loved the Lore character from the very first book, and for me, this is the best of them all. I have been having some personal problems and this book was so powerful, it took me out of my own head and fully into the very emotionally charge story of my favorite character. This story has totally gutted me. I don't know how Ms. Neeley comes up with such amazing ideas, how she puts so much feeling these pages, this book alone would make you a faithful reader.
This PNR sets a very high bar for the writing world. I would highly recommend this to all adults who read this genre.

Wow!! I am speechless after reading Lore! What an amazing book! Ms Neeley has yet to let me down her Whisper in the Bayou series is amazing. I waited a long time to read about Lore. It is intense, captivating and nail biting suspense. My emotions were all over the place with all the twist and turns that ends with a WTH ending.
Lore suffered so much after being punish for his sins of the past, searching for his mate. Finding her to loose her again.
Evangeline is on the verge of insanity, her only saving grace is to be rescued! Will Lore save Evangeline on time? Lore is disappearing a little at a time. Will he be strong enough to save his mate. Will Lore hold his sanity when he finds out that Evangeline is being tortured! Omg!!! Come find out. Join Sandra Neeley and experience this journey with Lore and Evangeline. We also meet some wonderful characters from the bayou, Carnage a gargoyle with a heart, Destroy the warrior gargoyle, Enthrall the vampire and yes we can’t forget Murder! This series is amazing!!! I would definitely recommend book if you love paranormal romance

Loved Lore and Evangeline

Finally we get more from Lore. He has always intrigued me from the beginning of this series. You could never be sure of his intentions whenever he misted into Whispers.

It's impossible not to be fascinated by the Ancient, he has an air of mystery surrounding him that makes You want to know all his secrets.

I fell in love with Lore and Evangalines slow buring romance, these two have more than a shared history. Soul Mates fated to be apart because of Lores deviant ways. It was his punishment to loose everyone he loves.

My heart actually broke for the Ancient I could feel his sorrow as he searched for Evangeline.
Lore might of done wrong but I really felt he suffered enough and I wanted him to get his HEA.

I adored Evangeline she was such a pure sweet soul who hated the suffering of others. But I loved the way she went after what she wanted by the end, it made me smile.

This is a fantastic series and Whispers is one fictional place I'd love to visit.
I can't wait for Murders book.

Sandra did not disappoint with the next installation of this series. I love how everything is playing out. This one was probably one of the harder ones to relate to cause let's be honest. Lore was kind of a jackwagon in his youth. I'm glad he has changed his ways in his older years. There were so many hardships in this book, but also so many wonderful things that happened. I cannot wait to read the next book! This has become one of my favourite series to read! I just love how you have a complete story in each book, but it also leads you into the next in a effortless way. Even though it kind of leaves off on a cliff hanger, it also, doesn't. I know that's weird. It's just the way she sets up the next book, kind of like a sneak peak that doesn't make you angry because you don't have that book to read right now. I just love them all!

What can I say about Lore? Holy cow! The Whispers in the Bayou is one; if not my favorite, PNR series. From the first page of each book, I am hooked like a druggie wanting the next fix. Lore reminds us to never give up on love and always keep fighting for what we love. There are moments of tears and moments of celebration. Along with love it tells us about friendship. The author’s intent most likely wasn’t to have readers pondering the questions and dedications of friendship, it worked for me. Even though it is a PNR, I love the fact that many aspects are real. Thank you for a book series I love to read and re-read. Cannot wait for the next book. Do not miss out on a great series, a definite must read.

Another awesome chapter in this storyline.

I loved, loved ,loved learning more about Lore. From the others books I was happy to finally hear what happened to him and his true mate. You can feel his pain and remorse about what he did and let happen to Evangeline. I was so surprised to find out what Evangeline was. No wonder she was so disoriented being literal held in Hell itself. The guard that was kind to her and Murder. I can't wait to find out who she is in the next book. All in all I really enjoyed getting to understand why Lore was off his rocker have the time. Plus learning more about Lily's powers and purpose. On to the next book.

Not for me.

I tried to give it a shot but it was just a little too similar to the other stories in this set: helpless damsel in distress, check. Overbearing dominant male, check. I didn't make it a quarter of the way through before I realized it was pretty much the same storyline with new names. I tried to give this author another shot after forcing myself to finish the 3rd book, but I just couldn't do it. I'm not sure if it was the reheated dialog and plot, the weak females, the overbearing males, or the premise that being controlling is ok as long as you can pass it off as just being protective. Either way, this series just wasn't for me.

Unfortunately, though I have enjoyed all the previous books in this series, I just cannot get into this one enough to finish it. Lore was cool, but in this installment he seems...well...whiny? And also a huge asshole. But an angst filled asshole who feels bad about his actions after he realizes he screwed himself over.

Meh, not for me. Plus...hearing the guys referred to as “males” all the time gets distracting and irritating.

I still like this author and her ideas are original and interesting, but I just don’t care for Lore.

Good but not my fave .

I liked Lores story but I wasn't thrilled with Lores " walking down memory lane ". I enjoyed bringing all the series characters together though . There are still a few characters left (so far ) that we the reader can ( more than likely ) expect a book from . Something to look forward to !

Lots of lost loves

The lore of this world is getting epically complex. Lore himself went through an epic journey of penance and reconciliation. The one drawback to this now large cast of characters is that it feels a little like we don't get enough "happy" time with the main couple. Maybe it's just my personal opinion, but I'm blaming it on purgatory.

😱 So tortured 😞

I really loved that Lore got a book. I had to read the book twice because it was a bit confusing, for me at least. We got to find out more about Lily and their connection. Didn’t like reading about the old Lore, poor Evangeline couldn’t help loving him and paid the price. Not only with the selfish Lore but his crazy brother too. So amazing Murder has a book!!!

This story is incredible. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. Sandra Neely is one heck of a writer. Yes this is the 4th book in a PNR, but it reads like a wonderful mystery. I'm looking forward to Murders story.
