Other than Fe having two elemental magics, I don't get why she's so powerful... or should I say more powerful than others. I need to see more of her power or her doing more with her power to get it. Hopefully that will happen in further installments.

So here I am, reading a cozy mystery...la la la cozy cozy...la la la awww look at the cute romance...last 20 pages...what the?! No more cozy and went dark quick. Like, in an ick kinda way. I was no longer cozy. Don't get me wrong, I love a dark romance it was just unexpected, or maybe I just haven't read enough cozy mysteries to know the difference. Will I continue to read the next book in the series? Yeah, probably. I really liked all the fun cocktail recipes at the end and the paranormal parts.

Such a fun story. I definitely want to read the next one. The characters are witty and charming and most importantly are running around doing really dumb things. The story is definitely believable.

August 1, 2022Okay so the cutesy cover definitely threw me off. This book was not cute and not a cozy mystery. There was dark magic, serial killers, sociopaths add just dark dripping all over it.
It was a good read and a good book. I like the family dynamic even if the book has literally no other positive female characters except the lead. I hope that gets remedied.

Good
This was a fairly good sequel it's clear Sully and Fe are falling hard and fast, but more bodies gets in the way of Sully even being able to ask He in their first date. Screams draw them both to the empty space next to Ophelia (Fe) 's bar where the new owner had found a body, and she's not alone.
Who, or what is killing girls and discarding them. Sully and Fe will investigate together, with a brand off snark and sass that is pure Lily Harper Hart.
Out you like your heroines with backbone and power and a hero not afraid to admit when he's wrong but stand up anyway you'll live this series. I love the background of New Orleans, and this book in its own way reminds us how tough NOLA has had it since Katrina swept through

It doesn't seem like the same author
I was absolutely drawn into the characters in the first book. The way they interacted and spoke to each other, it was magical. But this second book feels like it is written by a ghostwriter. It has sloppy dialogue that loses the very essence of who everyone is!! Plus, her scent went from cloves and anise to just cloves. Little details that were set out in the first were not carried through.
The murder mystery and magic is creative and interesting, but it felt like totally different main characters. So disappointing.

4.5 Stars! Book two in the Supernatural Speakeasy series, Witch Confidential takes place only a couple of weeks after the events of book one and continues the story of NOLA witch, Ofelia Archer.
Summary:
Zach Sully is hoping for an easy night at Ofelia’s supernatural speakeasy. If he’s honest, he wants a chance to flirt and hopefully gather the courage to ask the raven-haired witch for a date. Just when he thinks his plan is working, a scream sounds from a neighboring building, pulling both him and Ofelia to the scene of a murder. But the situation escalates dramatically when voices from the past start whispering in Ofelia’s ear. Turns out, there wasn’t just one murder, but seven. One new murder, and six from before Katrina hit. Suddenly, Ofelia finds herself knee-deep in another murder investigation, and Sully finds himself with an unofficial partner. It’s clear there is a killer on the loose, but where? And why did they stop killing for so many years only to return to it? Ofelia is convinced they need to find out who the original six girls are in order to find out who killed them. Upon further research, Sully and Ofelia find a link to a bunch of missing street performers in the months leading up to the hurricane. Unfortunately, even with that knowledge, the questions still outnumber the answers. But Sully and Ofelia are determined to see justice served. Ofelia’s second book was a great read. I’m loving getting to know more about Ofelia, her magic, family, and her growing relationship with Sully. Ofelia is a wonderful heroine. I appreciate her compassion, smarts, and strength. While we know that Ofelia is a confident witch, I was pleasantly surprised at the skill we saw in her in this book. I loved it. I still feel like there is so much more to her and her magic, though, and I can’t wait to see it. I wish we saw a little more alpha tendencies from Sully, but I still like him very much. He was a bit more firm in this book, but as a shifter, I think I expect more for some reason. I definitely want to see more from his shifter side. I almost forget that about him until something happens that he prepares to shift. It still hasn’t happened yet, and I wonder if there is a deeper reason for that, that we will eventually understand. The mystery that still clouds his past and family is also intriguing and urges me to read more just for that information. As a couple, I was expecting a longer period of awkward almost-but-not-quite dating between Sully and Ofelia. That did happen for a while, but there was also a marked jump in their relationship, and I was there for it. I love them together, especially when they aren’t arguing over who will protect who, and I love that fate seems to be working behind the scenes to push them together instead of waiting for them to come around to it. In the end, I was engaged in the mystery and romance from page one. The mystery was a good one, and I honestly had no idea what was happening until the big reveal. It was a bit of a sick surprise. Lol. I do feel that we were left hanging with some questions from early in the investigation, though. For example, was one of the girls Laura? The romance is a big draw for me, so no issues with how that developed. I just want more and faster. 😉 Supporting cast is still giving me fits, though. I still like Felix, and really hope we see a side story with him in future. Oscar is a bit over the top for me, but I did like his characterization a bit better than in book one. I don’t particularly like Ofelia’s mother at all. The setting of New Orleans is perfect. I love how LHH weaved real NOLA history and lore into the fictional story. This is an entertaining series, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good cozy mystery with supernatural elements and romance thrown in. ♡

Great characters
Ofelia is a witch, a really strong witch, confident and secure in her magic. She also owns and operates a bar in New Orleans specifically for paranormal clientele. Sully is a detective with the murder department of the New Orleans Police Department, he's also a were, a rare jaguar shifter. He and Ofelia meet when he's investigating a murder. In book one of the series, and are immediately attracted to one another. They worked.together to.find the killer their relationship beginning to develop. In this------ -book 2---- Sully, while feeling a strong attraction, has still not worked up the courage to ask Ofelia out on a date. On what is just a regular night in the bar they are disturbed by screams coming from an abandoned building he's door. Turns out the building has a new owner and while she was inspecting the property she stumbled over a dead body. The deceased has not been dead long and while Sully is calling for help Ofelia is drawn to a wall across the way. Smashing through the plaster she uncovers the dedicated remains of six more corpses. All the bodies had been interred with bed bags, witchcraft looks to be involved in the case so Sully will need Ofelias help again if he is to solve these murders. The question though is whether this new murder victim is connected to the old victims.

Ghoulish fun!
Zach Sully is sat at Krewe's bar trying to pluck up the courage to ask Ofelia Archer for a date when screams are heard coming from the property next door.
Sully rushes to assist followed closely by Ofelia and her brother Felix, they find Daisy Simmons, daughter of a real estate magnate who's recently purchased the property screaming over a dead body.
While Felix catches the swooning Daisy, Ofelia's senses pick up on something behind the wall.. smashing through it with her witchy powers another 6 bodies, now mostly bones, come to light.
Once again Sully and Ofelia are going to have to work together to make sense of the case. The bodies behind the wall date back to before Katrina but does this new body mean that the killer has returned or is it just a coincidence?
With Sully desperately trying to ask Ofelia on a date, Daisy's determined to date him herself and nearly causes irreparable harm to his chances. They're both determined to get the case closed before they consider the next step but when homeless Bernie is also attacked and ends up in hospital raving about shadows with glowing yellow eyes he might just have provided the clue that ties it all together..

The characters were similar to other characters by this author. Doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I enjoyed reading about Fe and Sully and her family. They’re fun and entertaining yes similar to others but honestly it was still a fun read. This author has found her niche and formula for her stories and it works for her nothing wrong with that. I will still read this series and her other series as well.
Felix is a loving brother that just needs to find his thing. Oscar is a great dad whom is a bit bitter from divorce and I don’t think he really knows or understands the hurt he causes with episodes. But that is like many people in or out of books. Sully is a cop (duh) but he is a sexy cop. Who has a few secrets we need to unravel before it makes Fe unravel. Fe’s mom I don’t even remember her name Cause well I didn’t like her at all. Like I wanted to dump a pot of gumbo all over her in public so everyone saw it. She wasn’t nice. Fe is slowly figuring out that all these people in her community care about her more than she thought or they let on.

When Ofelia and Sully hear a scream while in the bar, they find a woman who has just discovered a body, and then there are the others that Ofelia hears in the wall…
This is a magical mystery, building upon the book that came before it; while the murder mystery itself is a standalone, the series is best read in order because it does reference past events.
The characters are entertaining, and at times amusing. The magic is sometimes subtle, and other times blatant (Ofelia is quite powerful), and is usually very relevant to the tale.
This particular story harkens back to Hurricane Katrina quite a bit, and covers some topics that make it a little less than “cosy” but no less entertaining for the reader. It’s fast paced, has quite a bit of action, and though there is romance, it tends towards fade-to-black when it isn’t being interrupted!
An enjoyable magical mystery, set in the city of New Orleans, this is a good read for those who enjoy paranormal mystery stories.

Enjoyed
Good second book in this series. I like the New Orleans setting. Ofellia and Sully have chemistry. I also like the fact that both characters are aware of the supernatural. Ofellia is a powerful witch with lots of connections and confident in her capabilities. The formula of the.male detective needing help with a supernatural investigation works. I liked the two Characters working together. In the first book that was not the case. Characters from the first book make an appearance. Also mentioned in this book is a siren and a cupid (introducing supernatural creatures from other books). I kind of feel like this series is written with fans of the author's other series in mind. I read all the series and like the mystery, romance, humor and characters. This is another easy, clean, fun read from an author I enjoy.

A fun paranormal romp.
This was an amusing second book that picks up not long after the last book. I’m enjoying the bantering between the not too subtle lovers to be, and Fe’s relationship with her family is still a prominent part of the story but wasn’t quite as volatile as before, so... yah?
The bodies found in this book make up part of a very absorbing plot line that I would have loved to follow for quite a bit longer. I could have happily read this if the book was twice this long. I almost called the identity of the killer, but resolution was xo much more twisted than I’d expected.
Loved the kitten, sadly still no name.

A great supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a big tacular storyline. A witch who runs a bar in the tourist area of New Orleans find a body behind her bar. She meets a detective and begins her friendship. Follow along as she helps find out who the culprits are. This is the second book in the series no spoilers at all. Ophelia is the owner of the bar which her father sold to her. Her father still hangs around as well as her brother and then her and her friends help solve murders mysteries and Mayham.

As much as I love these books, I had to lower the rating. I cannot stand the father. He is an abusive bully and I see nothing redeeming in him. The mother is not much better.
I also really hate when the female character gets all worked up because the cop won't let her butt into police business. What's with all this "we are a partner" and him giving in nonsense? She needs to grow up.
Because I love most the characters so much (and the setting), I'm willing to overlook these things and keep reading.
Also, the author is doing a solid job with the story telling. I'm enjoying it.

Fantastic follow up to the Hexorcist
I loved everything about this story. Especially learning more about New Orleans. The relationship between Sully and Ofelia develops further. It starts in Krewe, before moving next door after hearing a scream. From there, there's a hunt to find out who killed the recent victim, and the other victims found behind a wall. We go on a tour of a cemetery, and around the French quarter, with evil chasing behind them. A fab journey of discovery, keeping you on your toes.
I loved everything about this story. Especially learning more about New Orleans. The relationship between Sully and Ofelia develops further. It starts in Krewe, before moving next door after hearing a scream. From there, there's a hunt to find out who killed the recent victim, and the other victims found behind a wall. We go on a tour of a cemetery, and around the French quarter, with evil chasing behind them. A fab journey of discovery, keeping you on your toes.

Another excellent entry in this series!
I love Ofelia; she's good-hearted, funny, and completely unafraid of her power. Sully is the perfect foil for her as a good-hearted, funny, protective alpha male who's still secure when Fe's leading. The relationships are thoughtfully sketched and provide more dimension for the characters. The mystery investigation makes sense for the timeline, and the mystical elements are imaginative and add to the reader's enjoyment. This author does not disappoint!

This book was awesome
I love the main characters. I can see them as I read this book as Lily Harper Hart is great at character development. Both with physical descriptions as well as personality development. This book waz fun to read and a kick ass book. Sully and Ofelia together is magical. I love the snarky Ofelia and Sally's gentlemen persona. Not to mention the mystery was fun to watch it be solved but I didn't see the ending being what it was. If you like paranormal cozy mysteries with a sarcastic family you will love this series.

There was quite a bit of repetition in both the narrative and the dialogue. Enough so I actually skimmed some sections just to get past it. I really didn't need the 2 MCs to state multiple times that they were ready to date. It just seemed to drag a bit. The argument about who was going to take care of whom in the middle of an actual fight was a little over the top too.
Not my favorite development, but I'm willing to see if the next installment rights some of this or just makes it worse - then I'll be done with the series.

I loved Fe and Sully! Their chemistry is off the charts!!
In this book, the empty hotel next to Krewe is finally sold, but when the daughter of the new owner walks through the place she discovers a dead body. it turns out that 6 more bodies were hidden in the walls, all from around the time that Hurricane Katrina hit. Is the killer a supernatural or a human?
Fe and Sully partner up to work on this case and their relationship takes a romantic turn. But she's never known what a healthy, romantic relationship feels like and Sully is glad to be the one to teach her.

Highly recommended
Enjoyed the book a lot. Will take a bit getting used to Zach instead of Sully but it's a small thing. I enjoyed the story and mystery. Liked seeing more of Bernie. Hope Ofelia has more scenes with the vampire. Would like to see enough of that character his name sticks.
No language mild violence and mild sexual scenes.
Recommend this and all her series as well as her Amanda M Lee identity books.

Completely fabulous!!!
I loved this book. It reminded me of JD Robb's in death series where eve finds skeletal remains inside a wall. That's where the similarities end. This mystery was filled with magic.
Ophelia and Sully relationship moves forward. Their witty banter is so funny that I laughed out loud numerous times. There was magic, drama, humour, romance and action throughout. I loved this book and story. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I like this series well enough. There was a good dose of comic relief at the end and very little of the family drama from the first book. The solution to the mystery was kind of out there....not really foreshadowed, but not totally out of left field; so, I can live with it. Once again with this author, we have a cop who thinks nothing of having a civilian just hanging around while he investigates, which makes the whole "cozy" thing go down a little easier for me.

Sully is a cop who is pulled into this weird case of women's mummified bodies being found in the empty building next door. Fe and Sully join forces to hunt down these "monsters" and solve the murders.
Good read although some what predictable.

Cute, cozy mystery
Sully and Fe are back, and Sully is even moving up in the world so he gets to be called Zach. ;) this time the hopefully soon-to-be couple are tangling with a ghoul and decades old murders along with fresh bodies. In the meantime, the two of them are dancing around their feelings and avoiding asking each other out for fear of rejection. But they’ll get over that and solve their case.
