Cry Havoc

Rate this book
The news is full of disturbing events today. There’s war and rumors of war. There’s the false recovery of the economy. Failing faith in the US economy is extremely high. Foreign banks have either slowed their purchases of Treasury Bonds or, in a few cases, begun unloading them.

We have a current election that is rife with corruption, extreme partisanship and outright fraud. It would appear the left in the country is ready to do about anything to see their candidate elected. While this is very concerning today, what does it mean to the election process as a whole? What will the next one look like? Does anyone believe they will actually improve? Or will the next batters up to the ultimate Homeplate simply make it even worse, take it even further down the rabbit hole?

In reality, it matters not who wins. They can only be there for eight years. But the election sets precedent for the next one; and the next one will push the limits even further, if there is one.
We’ve all heard of the spooky bank holiday. This sort of thing usually happens on a weekend, and on Monday morning you simply cannot access your account. You have no access to your money. Don’t think it can happen? Neither did the people of Greece. Or Germany when they were limited to fifty Euros a day. What would you do? Do you keep cash on hand? Do you trust your bank? If you put twenty thousand dollars into the bank and then ask for ten thousand back, you have to fill out forms and justify your need for it. Then they tell the government about it and you face further sanctions.

Here in America, we think we’re free. Well, we are currently listed as number twenty on the scale of freedom. Think about that. Number twenty! Chile is ahead of us! But we have our guns and all of those other countries don’t. And indeed we do, for now. But what if, if, they were to take those away? What do we do then? And before you say you would take to the streets and fight back, think for a minute what that really means. Then watch a few videos on Syria or Ukraine. It’s all fun and games until someone puts a tank main-gun round through your house.

What follows is just one idea of what this could look like. I’m not saying this is the way it would go. It’s just some thoughts on it. On how people could act. What the government may do in response and how people might respond in turn.

For me, this is definite improvement on The Survivalist series of the same author (Going Home). The writing, the characters, plot, the pace... everything is somehow, let's say more mature and coming from more writing experience.

It's really interesting, when you get chance like this, to witness writer's professional development. And it makes me feel all peppy when the track is in good direction :)

Another good read by A. American

I've read most of his books. This one didn't disappoint. A little different than his other books , but I enjoyed it. I just hope the next book comes out soon.

First, I want to start off by saying that I have read, and thoroughly enjoyed all of A. American's other books. REALLY enjoyed them. I am *gasp* an extremely socially liberal person, but I'm also from a prepper and military family. The two things are not mutually exclusive. In the Going Home series, while there was the standard "liberals are all evil entitled jerks" thing going on, it was pretty easy to just get past it because the characters spoke for themselves. Each character had his or her own thought processes, reasoning, logic, etc. This book however, disappointed me. The characters were nowhere near as engaging as any from the previous series. The constant "left-wingers are all bad, and right-wingers are all good" thing just kind of got old. People generally suck pretty well across the board, you know? Yes, there are absolutely left leaning people that are entitled jerks. Just as there are right leaning people who are "god fearing" bigots. Sweeping generalizations are just bad - especially when they are so cliched.

And really? In what world does the head of security at a bank "outrank" an exec? I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that the next book and/or series is as amazing as the previous ones.

Good story.. Could not put it down

Having enjoyed the author's Going Home series, I had to check out this newest book from him, and I'm glad I did.
With everything that's been going on in the news lately, the beginning of this book felt.. almost eerily surreal. It captured my attention right from the start, and held it all the way thru. No cliffhanger ending, so it would make a good stand alone novel, although I am hoping for a sequel so I can see what happens next.

I was very impressed with A. American's 'Going Home' series, but this left me a little disappointed. A good story with humorous characters, but the whole pace of the book seemed off. There were also quite a few grammatical discrepancies that interrupted the reading flow of the book. While the story was mostly interesting, it still seemed like bit of a rush job with the whole book. I can't honestly say that this is some of A. American's best work...

Hope not

This was an interesting though somewhat distressing story. I am not an American so I was not familiar with many of the political references in the story. However, I understood that the writer is not happy with the Clintons or the current situation in the USA which he feels is too liberal & that too many people are being taken care of from the cradle to the grave. Scary stuff which I hope does not come to pass. Makes for interesting reading though.

A. American's The Survivalist series was my first delving into this genre of books and I have been a fan ever since. Therefore, anything he comes out with, I read. This book however was a huge disappointment. Not only did it feel rushed compared to the telling of his other stories, but there was so much of his political views spewed throughout the book. Feeling entitled and being a shithead isn't exclusive to one political party. I think I'll pass if this becomes a series.

Another Great Novel

Already a big A. American fan, I downloaded this new novel (hopefully, a new series) and was not disappointed. Being a Texan, I particularly enjoyed it (won't be a spoiler and say anything more on that). Can't wait for the next book to see how the characters move on to the next chapter in their lives. I highly recommend this one!

Realistic apocalyptic story

Instead of knowing in the first 15 minutes or even the first day our group has to struggle to figure out society is collapsing. They escape Atlanta hoping for a better life. They have some tense encounters on the way. The reader is totally invested in the group's success as the characters are so well done.

Fine read

Was a very interesting read. The story line was consistent, and kept my attention. I would recommend this book to anyone. There is some violence and sex, which was tastefully written. Very good book. Wouldn't mind reading additional books from this author.

Nothing further to address.

Not Exactly Up To A. American standards

I gave this a 3 because it didn't feel up to par. The characters lacked back story an heart. I couldn't even envision what one looked like. The prepper aspects failed and the name branding of everything felt forced. Angery can and usually does do much better. If this becomes a series I'll skip it.

A. American never disappoints! Yet again he has written a book that you are eager to read. Great characters, a few people that dosen't know each very well at the beginning, but bond during their escape from Atlanta to Texas. Great read and good survival tips here and there! Recommended!

Very disappointed with this book. I read the Going Home series, loved it, and expected something similar with this book. I kept at it to about the half way point and then gave up. The story line was okay, but the characters were truly awful; I didn't care what happened to any of them.

So good to see fresh new content from AA. This one is a good read full of action, but not over the top. Great characters full of personality. Enjoyed thoroughly.

Pretty good

A conspiracy apocalypse with credible characters. Apparently leading to a Texas taking back the union. I think this gives our government more credit than it is worthy of.

Loved the book. Did not want to lay it down.

The idea that the government turned against the people, was hard to believe. But after the first few chapters, it made sense. Action packed, and suspenseful.

Great read

This is a well written story about real people in a bad situation. Each person is dealing with the situation the best they can. It makes you think about how things could play out in a financial meltdown and how common rural folk and city folk would react.

Daniel Taylor works for a major bank in the trendy Buckhead area of Atlanta. He is on the IT team responsible for cybersecurity. When a breach hits nationwide, chaos reigns. No one can access their money. Riots ensue. The government steps in and things happen swiftly and dramatically.

American’s novel, Cry Havoc though written in 2015 is very timely in 2020. It demonstrates the worst possible scenario when the government oversteps its constitutional authority. It also showcases the devolving of mankind in a very short period of time.

When Daniel finds himself trapped at work with his girlfriend and a few building security coworkers, he realizes that they must find a way out of Atlanta at all costs. Timing will be everything in their escape. Avoiding rioters and government roadblocks will not be easy. Rumors say that Texas offers a respite from the tyranny.

5 out of 5 stars.

This was written pre 2016 but the events take place about now. Crazy because I read this and yes that happened and this happened and wow this is happening now. Scary stuff hope it doesn't happen the same as in this book!

The characters were odd in the fact that hobbies that were mentioned that could have been used for the story were abandoned. Character traits were ignored or rewritten later on. A few of the characters were just unlikable and they weren't killed off because I think I was supposed to like them? What's up with the new friendship with an IT guys and Chief of security? It was odd that that was supposed to work? Why did he take him under his wing? I thought that the whole IT guy thing would have had a place to further along the story but it really didn't matter much.

At first this was hard to get into, but about chapter 3 it got much better. In the end I'd say I enjoyed the adventure of it. The book takes place as if Hillary Clinton had won the election instead of Trump and what might have happened, an interesting take with alot of probability.

What I did not like in the least was all the acronyms which were not defined. I had to look up a few of them that I did not know and was not pleased that at least the first time used they weren't spelled out.

Well done but has plot holes

Funny how all these apocalypse genre stories base their plots around "evil socialist Democrats". Yet now the stories will be eternally flawed due to HRC losing the election. The premise of a Democratic gun grab that never occurred no matter what the conservative media scares into the less informed. Overall a good story that does rely on people over prepared conveniently.

This book has been on my radar for quite a while now and after reading it I am not sure what I think of it. For me, the book suffers from too much exposition. Perhaps that’s just to lay the groundwork for the series but it weakens the overall effort. I will try the next and see if it is more story and less handholding. I say this as someone who probably isn’t too far off from the author politically, so it’s not so much the message as the weak and lazy delivery of the message.

Rated 3-4 stars. I very much enjoy A. American's books. Really liked the Going Home series. This one stands alone and is enjoyable. The book and author's writing lean a little hard to the left, but that's ok but I can't see the US saying guns are now illegal. I still say reading a SHTF book without zombies is always refreshing and interesting. What I really want is book #9 from Going Home!
