Still fairly enjoyable, but definitely a step down from the first two volumes. I was disappointed by how little Mob and Reigen feature in this one. Mob’s brother’s arc had a good conclusion but I wasn’t a huge fan of how the story got there.

Okay, the resolution to the psychic scuffle in the last volume, carried over to this one, kinda blew me away.

I was going... NOOIIICCCEEE.

I'm also laughing about White T Poison.

His brother seems to be going down a pretty dark path, and I can't wait to see where this goes.

I may be a fan of these mangas now.

Oh yes, yes, YES! Here comes the dynamic siblings I think I couldn’t find anywhere in fiction (so far) between Ristu and Shigeo. I love how it so realistically complex. Ritsu despite being acclaimed as perfect 10 compared to his older brother, aspire to be like Shigeo/Mob (to be a psychic). It always remind me of how we humans, are never grateful for what we have. We tend to overlook the good things we already own and focussing on others instead.

Shigeo with his struggle to stay conscious during the explosion already on the edge to give up on his power and Reigen reminded him to believe in himself more. I think in a way, what Mob truly needs all along is someone who believe in him (despite Reigen OBVIOUSLY took advantage of the situation for himself).

One more character I hate to love is Komura, knowing his backstory with the expectation his elite family put on him is becoming his undoing. I can’t help myself that to compare it (Komura tried hard to reach his brother’s standard) with Ritsu-Shigeo’s conflict.

Ritsu definitely have his own privilege on being good at everything, shows that he also have his own struggle.

And HELLO, Captain of Body Improvement Club with his own principle in ‘defeating yourself first’ is massive WISDOM OF LIFE I LOVEEE.

Aaahhh I want to read next volume so bad!!

Colourful artwork of Mob blowing bubbles, one of which contains a melancholy Ritsu [Source]

This series continues to be extremely enjoyable and such a blast to read. If you’re ever in a bad mood all you have to do is pick up this series and it’ll cheer you right up. It’s not some super cheery happy-go-lucky series in any sense, it just has this charm to it that never fails to pick me up and put me in a better mood than I was in before reading it.

This volume wraps up the Teruki/Mob debacle and foreshadows its consequences. We start to see more of and learn more about Mob’s brother Ritsu, and along with that comes the introduction of the Psychic Awakening Lab. This volume was very primarily composed of set-up for several events to come soon—probably in the next volume—but was nonetheless its usual fun time to read due to its constant flow of charm and humour.

I’m really wondering now as to why I’ve rated the first two volumes only four stars, for this manga is easily one of the greats. But then I think back on this volume, and how I feel like it’s only four stars, and that’s how I must have felt for the previous volumes as well. I think I’m waiting for a volume to really blow me out of the water in order for me to finally bump up the rating into five star territory. Having watched the anime I know that there are lots of great things to come, so I’m not worried at all on that front.

As part of my 2025 year of friend recs

The characters are all sweaty again and honestly it's a little unnerving and hard to get used to but I'm dealing with it.

The lack of Mob and Reigen in this volume was a little disappointing. However, I'm enjoying the storyline with Ritsu and what's happening with him - especially with how this volume ends.

Unfortunately, my rating of this volume absolutely plummets with it's use of the 'R' slur completely out of the blue.

While nice to see Mob hit 100 and cut loose the volume was kind of boring. I don't care about the school student council drama. The quality of the art is slipping and I don't know that might be a deliberate thing but I find it annoying.

3/5 After wrapping up the battle with Hanaza the rest of the volume really slows down. Most of this volume involves Mob’s brother trying to develop some super powers of his own and a conspiracy by the student council president to frame the delinquents to get them expelled from school. A disappointment after volume 2s improvement.

I really liked this book. I really like the cliffhanger at the end. Thankfully I have the next book so it was all good. My favorite part of this book is the group of superhumans and all of their respective abilities. I am really looking forward to reading the 4th book.

From ONE, the creator of One-Punch Man!, Mob Pyscho 100 tells the story of Shigeo Kageyama, aka Mob. At first glance, Mob looks like your average middle school boy, and although it seems like there’s nothing special about him, he is a powerful esper with a massive amount of psychic power.

To help keep control of his skills, he committed to go through life under an emotional shackle. To help learn how to control his abilities, Mob works a part-time job as an assistant to Reigen Arataka, a self-proclaimed psychic and con-man. Mob wants to live a normal life like the people around him, but due to some unfortunate events, he gets further away from his goal. When his suppressed feelings and emotions continue to grow inside of him, Mob’s powers slowly start to break through its limits.

Mob Psycho 100 Volume #3, published by Dark Horse Comics, brings the battle between Black Vinegar Middle Schools shadow gang leader, Teru, and Mob to a close. Teru is also an esper with immense power and he pressures Mob into fighting to see who is more powerful. However, Mob sticks to his promise to be non-violent and refuses to use his skills on people. When Mob gets knocked out and the fight seems over, something then awakens in him and takes control.

Overall most of the manga’s artwork is pretty rough and simple. I would say it has a more unorthodox style compared to other manga. However, I feel that is done intentionally to reflect the tone of the series. So the simplistic character designs, while they may appear crude in some standards also allows more opportunity for the artist to distort characters and surroundings in certain scenes. For example, they can contort the character’s features for more dramatic emotions, displays of power, or for a quick gag. One well-done example of this is when Mob loses control of his powers in his fight with Teru. The artist alters Mob’s appearance and the surroundings to convey the exaggerated shift in Mob and to display how immense his powers are.

Another thing I liked about Mob Psycho 100 Volume #3 was that it touched on how Mob’s inner-struggles with his powers cause him stress and affect him emotionally. When it comes to manga, in general, it is not uncommon for a lot of the protagonist to be a young person with unique abilities or massive power. Because there’s so much focus on how skilled and or strong these character types are, I think it is very easy to forget that they are still children. Children that are still growing up, not just physically but emotionally too. And with that, they are learning how to process and vent their feelings.

When it comes to Mob, he’s aware of how strong his powers are, but whenever his emotions, usually because of stress or fear, reach their capacity something powerful awakens and takes control of him. Early on in the series Mob lost control of his powers when he and his little brother, Ritsu, were being bullied by older kids.

When he saw Ritsu get hurt, something inside of him snapped, and he lost control of his powers. When he became conscious again, he sees the amount of damage his powers caused, and from that point on, he started suppressing his feelings in hopes of controlling his powers better. So when his fight with Teru is over and he becomes conscious, he sees that he failed to control his emotions and powers again. This causes him to breakdown and cry. In this scene, the reader sees just how much his struggle with his powers affects him.

Another thing I enjoyed in this volume was seeing Reigen be a good and supportive mentor to Mob. While it looks like Reigen, being the fake psychic that he truly is, only keeps Mob round so he can exploit his psychic powers to stay in business. However, he does genuinely care about Mob’s well
being and is a good mentor to him when he needs it. For example, following the events of his fight with Teru, Mob is feeling down and feels like his powers cause nothing but problems for the people around him. Even going so far as to wish he didn’t have them anymore.

Reigen tells Mob that his powers are useful to him and encourages him not to feel ashamed of his abilities, but instead, he should learn to control them better. Reigen also recognises that Mob needs guidance because, without it, his powers and the stress of them would be too much for the boy to handle. And while Mob seems to be pretty aware of the fact that Reigen uses him for his powers, he still respects and trusts most of the advice he gives him. I think the reason for this is because Reigen was one of the first people, besides his little brother, that appreciated his powers and accepted him.

Lastly, I enjoyed seeing more Mob’s brother, Ritsu’s true feelings revealed. Compared to his older brother, Mob, Ritsu is the complete opposite in nearly way. He’s popular, easy to socialise with, good at sports and he’s a model student. However, Ritsu considers himself to be lacking and desires something that Mob has – his powers. Ritsu thinks Mob’s powers are incredible and would like nothing more than to be like his brother, but it seems he doesn’t have any powers at all. This causes him to feel conflicted because in his eyes no matter how popular he is, he still isn’t as good as his older brother, and that makes him start to have some resentment towards him.

Overall, I recommend checking Mob Psycho 100 Volume #3 out. While at first glance, the art may not grab your attention, it does have its place in the story. And while the overall tone of the manga is humour, it does have some deeper touching moments that make you appreciate the characters a bit more. I also recommend this if you are looking for a new refreshing manga to read that’s a little different too.

4/5 Stars (%76/100)

Not as good as the previous one but it is still enjoyable mainly because of the conclusion of the fight between Teru and Mob. This fight is still one of the greatest fights in the series and it will impact both Mob and Teru's lives a lot. After the fight, the story turns to Ritsu, Mob's powerless little brother who wants to be like Mob. We also learn a couple of things about the Awakening Lab that Ritsu visits. In general, it was a good volume after a major battle. Still, the beginning of the volume (first two chapters) was great.

The story of Mob Psycho 100 so far is amazing, and gets the reader wanting more. To summarize, Shigeo Kageyama aka Mob looks like a average middle schooler with psychic powers that works under Reigen Arataka, a self proclaimed psychic, that battles the struggle of growing up. This volume was a little less than the others, but it does show how Kageyama's brother, Ritsu, who envies his powers. The addition of Ritsu and what he feels towards his brother is amazing, the way that he not only admires his older brother, but envies him to the point of trying to do anything to aquire power. I think the characters are amazing as well, with Mob as a nice and kind boy, who never uses his powers for his own gain or on others. Teru, another psychic, as a power hungry boy who got changed by Mob, and realizes the consequences of his actions. When Ritsu comes into the story, his character slowly becomes like Teru's old personality, power hungry and always wants to be above others. It is also nice to see the body improvement club, the club that Mob is apart of at school. The members show how much they care for mob, asking people to not involve him in shady things, and to leave him alone. Overall, this volume was nice, but a bit slow, but seeing different characters having a change of heart, or others becoming more and more jealous, shows the nature and feelings of humans overtime.

Title: Mob 3
Author: One
Genre: manga, young adult, action, supernatural

What can I say? Another Mob Psycho 3 down for a win!!! Please remember this is the Same author as One Punch Man. In this volume three manga, it was a big showdown in the Black Vinegar Middle School, boss Teru. In this volume, we get a glance at Mob's home life, with his brother Ritsu. Ritsu in this volume has been bamboozled by the student council president. Ritsu, has also been bullied in this manga as well, by order children. They are two different kids, one is like a social butterfly, and the other has psychic powers. With Mob, socially it is hard for him to build relationships and keep friends because of his abilities.
It just seems like each manga or anime Mob has TRIES to adapt being just a normal kid without abilities. In this manga, Mob cries from the frustration of using his abilities or not. The character that really showed up for Mob during his hardest trying time was Reigen. And to me for so long he has neglected mentoring him. But in this manga, he really came through for him and gave him so great advice.

Mob Psycho III so far has been the best action pack of the whole series.
I have manga four and can not wait to see what comes next!!!!

Mob finishes his fight with Teru. In order to make the school safer for Mob, Ritsu gets caught in an unethical plot by the student council to rid the school of "delinquents". Mob spots a strange man in the city.

I'm kind of divided on this volume because it finishes the Teru/Black Vinegar arc (which is one of my favorites) and then kicks off the Big Cleanup (which is one of my least favorites). ONE still does a great job with it but the school drama and psycho helmet plot points were never faves of mine. It has some fun omakes though.

CONTENT WARNINGS: nudity, language, kid gets falsely accused of being a pervert and it's p uncomfortable, general teen edginess

This series is kind of a love-hate series for me. ONE has some talent but the design of he characters take away from some of the enjoyment though his background work (when I see it is) is much better. The only thing really saving the series to me is the characters that in only 3 volumes have shown various depths of emotions and motivations as they go through the hell which is high school life (if you live in an area with high school gangs) but also having to deal with an uncontrollable and dangerous power for the main character. Plenty of gag manga antics later and I am hoping for more good stuff if I ever get to the 4th volume of the series. :)

“Do you want to have so much power…that other superhumans can’t even compare…?”

I’ll give this volume five stars just for the conclusion of the Mob vs. Hanazawa fight alone. I’ve always loved the end of their fight. Neither side feels good about it, but they also learn some things about themselves.

Then we have the beginning of Ritsu’s arc. While not as action packed as the previous fight, it also explores Ritsu’s feelings about Mob’s powers and how he sees himself. Essentially, the first part of the volume explores how Mob views his powers; and the second half explores how Ritsu views Mob’s (and his own) powers.

This volume is good, the reason I gave it a 4 star is because it focuses more on Mob's brother. There were still parts with Shigeo, but I wish he had more book time, because he is the main character. In this volume, Mobs brother gets mistaken for mob. So he finds out about other people with super abilities. Ever since Ritsu was younger, he always tried to bend spoons like mob so throughout the manga, he is always trying to bend a spoon. Also, the smarter students are trying to get rid of Onigawara.

Mob and Reigen are two of modern manga's best characters, and Volume 3 may be the longest we go without seeing either of them. Ritsu's growing anger and the demented Student Council storyline are well-told (again, ONE is a master of panel layouts) but it can't help but feel like its lacking something until it is able to tether it to its central duo. I've watched the anime, so I know that's about to happen, but it does contribute to this Volume feeling like a lot of loading the gun before the next few books pull the trigger.

Where was Mob throughout this volume? That’s one of the main reasons this is getting a 3-star rating from me. While I did enjoy seeing some development with his brother, Ritsu, and I’m sure it’s setting up a potential team-up between the two, the lack of Mob's presence really threw off the pacing. It felt like the momentum from the first two volumes came to a halt. Additionally, the absence of Mob meant a lack of the humor that made the earlier volumes so enjoyable. Despite these issues, I'm still curious to see where the story goes next.
