Johnnie Clark is the author of several books including the best-selling Vietnam War classic, GUNS UP! While working on his book GUNNER’S GLORY, he interviewed the Medal of Honor Marine, Mitchell Paige. Mitch is the hero whom Hasbro Toys designed the G.I. JOE doll in honor of. On his deathbed, Mitch recounts an astounding miracle that saved his life and changed the course of World War II. Years later, while Johnnie is fighting his own battle with memories of war on a mountain called Graybeard, God does the same incredible miracle with him.
Johnnie Clark was wounded 3 times with famous 5th Marine Regiment as a machine gunner. He was awarded the Silver Star, 3 Purple Hearts, The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry among other decorations. GUNS UP! was his first book, a non-fiction classic now in a 34th printing. It has been required reading in many high schools and colleges as well as the Commandant's list for suggested reading for all Marines. His second novel SEMPER FIDELIS also made the Commandant's list. Johnnie has two children Shawn and Bonnie. He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida with his wife, Nancy and dog Gunner. He owns and operates Johnnie Clark Tae Kwon Do and Judo School, A Christian Do Jang. He is an 8th Dan Grandmaster. He is a member of the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
It is a very encouraging read for followers of Jesus. Johnny’s military and life story are filled with events that only a real God can do as He touches humanity. It is also impacting that we never know when our time on earth is done and only what we do with Jesus will last for eternity.
I do believe everything Clark writes about his religious experiences. I have never agreed with the belief that only a Christian with Jesus in his heart can go to heaven. God is too great a Father to treat his children like that. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs though, especially here where our freedoms were preserved by our military. Thank you Clark and all the others that have served.
Although I did not enjoy this book as much as Guns Up, I still liked reading about Johnnie Clark's life as a Marine and afterwards. I know some won't like the book because it's 'preachy' as they would say, but it has a very strong message and the time is drawing near.
I’ve been reading Jonnie Clark books for almost thirty years. I know all his works, and now I feel like I know him. This book inspires me as a fellow Marine veteran and sinner. Thank you Jonnie, you touched my heart. Semper Fidelis.
Wonderfully inspirational-unexpected from a military book even in an accurate history. I’m gratified someone set the record straight re: Vietnam War and “outed” some of the men who lied (undoubtedly getting rich) as the liberal press ate the lies like homemade spaghetti. Grateful to the author for his effort in recording histories of our brave men and women. I will read more of his works soon (if the good Lord allows). Blessings to him and his family (uniformed or not).
