Nikolai

The Syrian regime backed by the Russians, are determined to draw out Nikolai and get their revenge on Anna at the same time.
In the midst of a world in turmoil, can Nikolai and his crew save Anna? Will the horrors that Anna has fought through keep them apart or draw them together. Each has a past, a passion that heats up and leads them into more danger.

Topical subject with a lot of interesting detail. Also a touch of romance to add to the mix. Good read.

The blurb sounds interesting because I love spy romance and Russian hero. I really wanted to enjoy this book but couldn't.
The story needs TRIGGER warnings. It's an erotic romance. The heroine is held captive in Syria and is violently sexually tortured and raped during her captivity. So the doctors had to take at her reproductive organs.
I hate to read such things in my romance.
Moreover, the sex scenes between the hero and the heroine are femdom. The hero likes to be dominated. I am not a fan of femdom. If I had known from the blurb that there will be femdom, I wouldn't have bought the book.
The heroine is annoying and srubborn and I thought the hero deserved better.
The author also didn't always start a new paragraph when the speaker changes in the dialogue, so it was hard to read. The head-hopping also bothered me.
