Finishing college with a degree in English literature and three teaching certificates, it was inevitable that M. D. Mascaro would go to work in retail and sing in a rock band on the weekends. In other avatars she appeared in California and Nashville as an actress and songwriter until she (relatively) settled down to raise her son and teach art. Her wanderlust and creative spirit give her a rich well of experience to draw from in her writing.
M. D. Mascaro primarily writes YA fantasy but she enjoys crossing genres. Her recent endeavors are into women's fiction, romance with a comic twist. Whatever she is writing, she believes in creating an authentic experience for her readers. To write Brandy and the Banshees she traveled to Dublin, stayed at a youth hostel, and did research on Irish families and mythology at the Irish National Library. The Secret of the Sea Witch found her on a 147 foot converted cargo ship in the Fiji islands. She loves research. She loves travel more. It’s a win-win situation.
