Avery Shaw likes to win. Unfortunately, her single-minded focus on being declared victor tends to get her into trouble. That’s never more true than when she decides to take on her archnemesis Tad Ludington. With an election coming up, Avery is ready to let her freak flag fly in an attempt to get Tad to show his true colors on television … thus sabotaging his chance at getting into office. That backfires when, after a truly epic meltdown, Tad is shot and left for dead in his own home. Sheriff Jake Farrell knows Avery isn’t guilty but his belief doesn’t matter when the case is taken away from him and given to the Michigan State Police. The incoming investigator zeroes in on Avery almost instantly … and makes her life a living hell. In addition to Tad, who is fighting for his life in the hospital, Avery also has to grapple with Eliot’s former employee Fawn, a woman who won’t stop flapping her lips about Avery’s probable guilt … all because she holds a grudge and finally has a platform to express it. Avery is in a bind. She’s been banned from covering Tad’s attack and the election, and she’s being called a “suspect” on every television station in the state. If she wants to clear her name, she’s going to need help. There’s little more she loathes than asking for help. She has no choice this time. Avery has always attracted weirdos. This go-around, those weirdos are going to come to her defense. It’s going to take a motley band of colorful characters to save Macomb County’s favorite intrepid reporter. Will they be up for the challenge?
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I absolutely love coming back to an Avery Shaw mystery, her sass and sarcasm know, no bounds, she really is in a class all of her own...lol
Eliot is just adorable honestly he is and he is also frustrating lol but then he is a man and he is a man in love even if he does love a little blonde devil...
Avery is back and determined to make sure her arch-nemesis Tad the douche doesn't win the election... and for anyone who follows the series I know it's nothing new but... and yes there is a but!!! Avery won't actually do anything to prevent it but someone else might... and who better to frame for a crime than the one loud mouthy reporter everyone knows loathes Tad Luddington...
This was another wonderfully written fast-paced and very funny mystery.
Avery Shaw is a series like no other. I believe she is my spirit animal. Her life plays out like I wish mine could, if one could get away with all of the snark and sarcasm she dishes out. This book was a very pivotal one for Avery, instead of hunting the suspect, she was the suspect this time. I loved every word, especially with her and Eliot being partners in crime this time. It was excellent and it saddens me that there won’t be as many books in the future because I think this is Amanda’s best series.
This book begins with Avery going to do a story and making her nemasis look ridiculous. She's good at that, but this time it backfires on her. Now, she's accused of attempted murder.
This one was awesome. I loved the team up between Avery and her man! They were great, and the ending was freaking amazing as well! It made me so excited for the next book. I can't wait now!
I really don’t know why I find the Avery stories so funny but I do. I usually prefer if they add in a touch of the paranormal, but for some reason, it’s not required here.
On the surface I should probably be frustrated with Avery’s behviour and how so many just give her a pass on it. But in reality, I just laugh and enjoy the trash talk and terror she supplies her victims. I shouldn’t call them victims, since they are so smarmy they deserve all they get and more. Co-agitators might be closer to the truth of what to call them.
She might be excessive, loud and obnoxious, but she does call herself out and admits when she is doing something mean or even petty. It’s not always a bad thing to stand up for yourself and cause your dissenters to fall.
There were a couple negatives with the story. One was having Fawn being the villain. She’s obviously crazy, but I think it would have shown up before this if she was really as off as she ended up being in the novel. I think she would have been outed as a loon when she was working at the pawn shop and fired back at the start. I think it either would have come to a head sooner, or stopped before she went too far off the deep end.
Second, I didn’t like that they said Becky would only get community service for her blackmail attempts. Just because who she blackmailed was horrible and that Tad was involved in such blackmail too, she shouldn’t get away with it because she didn’t know how to do it appropriately. She still tried doing it and it’s wrong. It doesn’t matter that the blackmail victim was wrong too. Truthfully if they just want to slap her wrist, then have her turn evidence against Ludington, as he is the one who paid the private investigator to dig up the dirt and was planning to use it himself to win an election and who knows what else after. He definitely deserves to go to jail as does Becky. She should only get a lighter sentence or was plea bargained down for turning over evidence on Tad. Jacobs her brother should also lose his job. He abused his position to try and protect her. That’s a corrupt cop, it doesn’t matter that he was trying to protect her, if anything that made it worse. He should have had her turn herself in and then helped to get her a reduced sentence. There might be degrees of right and wrong but it’s not up to us as individuals to decide who gets off, that’s up to a judge, jury and the courts.
Not everything in the world is easy to say if it’s good or bad, but I think we know when we are heading more to one side over the other. Justice should always be tempered with compassion, but justice should still be served.
This time Tad Ludington has decided to base his campaign platform on only allowing sanctioned members of the press to enter the county court. Smug as always, he gets Fawn, Eliot's recently sacked assistant, to hand the press release to Avery expecting her to explode. She's not even giving it a second glance the second he speaks she launches him into a whirlwind of hurt by asking him why he's anti the constitution and pointing out that when he's taken away the first amendment right to free speech the next place is the second amendment "he's coming for your guns!"
In typical Avery style she has Tad foaming at the mouth without even breaking into a mild sweat!! While the reporter's and TV camera crews are wiping out his entire campaign with the circus that erupts he publicly threatens and attacks Avery. Eliot physically stops him from launching himself in her direction and Jake intervenes and releases Tad.
Avery is full of the joys of having wiped out Tad's chances with this election and having spent an evening watching it back on the news channels is ready for a great day but Jake arrives early to inform the couple that Tad has been shot, twice, and may not live. The news isn't out but will be soon, because of the threats Tad made on air Avery is once again a suspect, although this time Eliot is too, and the investigation can't be run by Jake himself.
Avery is no killer, she much prefers to torture Tad with her reporting but the detective in charge has a one track mind.. he's determined to find or even create the evidence to take Avery down.
If that's not enough Fawn is publicly blaming Avery every chance she gets. Avery is going to have to clear her own name again.
I know that the Avery Shaw series is coming to a conclusion but I still really love the characters and fast paced, crazy world Lee's created around them. Please don't wave goodbye to her just yet.. she's a really good, laugh out loud read and we're not ready for her to retire anytime soon!!
Every may have bitten off more than she can chew.this time
The story starts with Avery doing what she does best Ruling up Tad Lutingdon and making him loose his temper but this time Had goes absolutely crazy and tries to attack Avery threatening to kill her, only swift intervention by her partner Elliot saves her. Well pleased with her days work Avery heads off home to enjoy a quiet night in with Elliot. Next day they awake to find trouble, Tad has been shot during the night and left for dead. Avery is immediately the prime suspect given the events of yesterday and it only gets worse. Make can't be seen to be helping her so assigns a detective to the case who hates Avery, her boss at the paper takes her off her normal stories and puts her on human interest, a date worse than death. Warned to stay far away from the investigation into Tads shooting and knowing this could turn out really bad for her Avery is caught in a really bad place. Her usual.support system is gone there is only Elliot to rely on as they they try to get to the bottom of who would want Tad dead.
Eliot has finally fired Dawn. She is now working for Tad Ludington, who is running for office. Tad has a scheme to keep Avery out of his press conferences, but she calls him out and embarrasses him, again. He flips out.
When someone shoots him, of course Avery and Eliot are the prime suspects.
Avery is suspended, and she and Elliot have to figure out who the real assailant is. Somehow, Dawn is behind this.
The fun is in following Avery, and this time, Elliot, around chasing the bad guys. Avery even gets Andre to help chase down a sleazy PI.
Great mystery with snarky humor, a tiny kitten, and an overzealous state policeman.
Avery always manages to get herself into some difficult situations. This time she’s being framed for attempting to kill the man she hates the most after so many years of tormenting.
She and Elliot have to work together to try to save her reputation. Poor Jake is stuck in the middle again wanting to help but knowing he can’t. If that isn’t bad enough her new kitten keeps leaving her little gifts in her shoes.
I’m always so happy to read a new book featuring Avery. You know there’s going to be all kinds of craziness and in the end she will figure it out. The ending of this one shows some personal challenges coming into play soon too.
Avery Shaw is everything I want to be when I grow up. Or at least wish she was my bestie. Life is never boring when Avery is on the scene. This is by far one of my favorite series. Avery is delightfully unpredictable in her ridiculousness and I love it. So many books get stagnant in long run series but every time a Avery book hits I binge it and actually laugh out loud. It’s very rare a book can make me laugh, like can’t hold it in and look like a crazy lady. Loved the twist in this one at the end Amanda gave us everything we could have possibly ever asked for with the supporting characters. Please please I need another Avery book soon
I’m really getting fed up with Eliot. I feel like he’s grooming Avery to accept his decisions about her life and he’s getting creepy with his insistence on “helping” her. He’s manipulative, controlling, and treats her like a child far too often. It was a great storyline as always. The bit about he’s going to propose soon and she’s going to say yes as soon as she stops fighting herself? Run, Avery! What do we really know about Eliot’s background? After this many books, he’s still an enigma to me. The relationship appears to be based on their sex life and not much else. Onto the next book. #TeamJake

This is a rather different entry in the series. In this case Avery and Eliot are suspected of attempt to kill Ted. He's been shot twice in the back and now there's a hot-shot lawman who is determined to find both of them guilty.
There's also Fawn and we find out how far she's willing to go to get even with Avery.
There's loads of dossiers on various people that Ted has gotten buy the question is what does he plan to do with them (assuming he survives, that is.)
Jake's under pressure and it's going to be a major task for Avery and Eliot to prove they did not shoot Ted.
I love all Amanda’s books. They always make me smile. I’m not a laugh at loud girl. This one did it for me. Avery is my favorite(close ahead of Aisling) and I re read every few months especially when a new one is due. I usually like to read a couple of chapters a night but this time it was impossible. I so wanted to get to the end and it was not even close to disappointing. If this is your first time reading this series Stop,go to #1 enjoy the world that is Avery.
😀I missed Avery. She was worth the wait. She is in the hot seat and someone is out to make her look like a killer. There are scenes with some of the regulars but mostly brief. This is primarily all about Avery and Elliot. Definitely entertaining.
Tad Ludington's election is still up in the air but hopefully he doesn't win because he has also been doing something he shouldn't.
Recommend this series and author as well as her series 's under the Lily Harper Hart identity.
I love this series, Avery is her usual stubborn self in this book, but she really is growing and maturing. She and Eliot are fun together, I love that Eliot is so protective of Avery, but still respects her independence. I pretty much figured out who the shooter was early in the book, but as always it was an adventure getting to the end of the story. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
The new old Avery! I have enjoyed series to varying degrees since its inception and think that the author is back on track with the most recent installment. It was a gripping mystery. I liked the interplay between Avery, Elliot and Carly. I also enjoyed how Avery is evolving as a person. The mystery was unique and I couldn’t figure it out until the reveal. A fun read that kept me up way past my bedtime.
I absolutely love this series. Avery is a reporter in the Detroit area who tends to get involved in her assignments. This book has plot twists that were unexpected, making it hard to put the book down. I actually laughed out loud in some parts. I can't wait for the next book!
Loved this addition to the series. This one had lots of twists and turns and was well paced. Avery almost came out on the wrong end of this one. Jake and Elliot come to her defense again to keep her out of hot water. It's also a good thing that she has interesting friends. Loved, loved, loved.
“It’s going to happen. I’ve known that for a long time now. You have too. I’m giving you time to adjust so ... do it. Adjust. This is what I want and I intend to get what I want.” “What about what I want?” “You want this too.” This is why I love AVERY and ELIOT so much!!!
I was having a not so good month until I realized that I got not just one book from Amanda M Lee but two! Avery is accused of trying to kill Tad, but anyone who knows her she would so much rather toucher him then have him die! Avery and Elliott are on the hunt for a killer and they are closer then they think!
Amanda M. Lee has written yet another hit. Snarcasm abounds with creativity, the heroine, Avery Shaw is in trouble again and there are still plenty of incidents that you will laugh until you can’t. I can’t say enough about how much I enjoy this series, quick reads and they always leave you wanting the next in the series.
I love this author and this series! If you like your cozy mysteries with romance and dripping in snark and sarcasm you’ll love this series! The big mystery is wrapped up by the end, but there are character histories and subplots that continue from one to the next, so I recommend reading them in order.
I love this series so much! It is the ultimate in snark. I'm smirking the whole time I'm reading. This was by far Eliot's moment to shine. I completely adore him and Avery together. My favorite part of this particular story was how Eliot and Avery worked together the whole time as well as Eliot's lingering protectiveness from Avery's attack in the previous book. It was definitely my favorite in the series so far.
I absolutely love Avery Shaw! This series has me laughing from start to finish and when you throw in a great mystery you've got a helluva great book. Join Avery, Elliot, Jake, and the rest of the crew to solve a mystery that will leave you guessing till the end.. If you've never read Avery Shaw then I definitely recommend these books.
Although I have read all of Amanda M Lee's books, the Avery Shaw series will always be my favorite. She is feisty, not afraid to be herself and cracks me up. This newest edition was just as good as all the rest. If you haven't read this series, start now!
I can't begin to explain how much I love the Avery Shaw series. They never disappoint. The characters are like crazy family. I love every one of them. If you are new to these books please start at the beginning. You could read them alone, but meeting the characters from the start is the best. Please hurry with number 17. I love them.
Y’all this is book 16 make sure you start at book 1 but man I loved this book. All the Tad incidents everyone talking about them. I really wished I could have “seen” the reel of Avery messing with Tad on TV. Just hearing the stories made a day/week/month... being locked in the house may have something to do with it or maybe just Avery!
Avery finds trouble again but this time it’s not just her. And it’s serious. Torturing Tad turns deadly and she’s not only put herself in the hot seat but Eliot finds his way there too. Avery definitely has her work cut out for her to clear both hers and Eliot’s name. Has her luck finally run out or does she prevail and have the last word?
I think Avery Shaw may be my favorite Amanda M. Lee character. Perhaps because this is the first series I read, or maybe because Avery is delightful, funny, and has a quick mind and a big mouth. Not to mention the friends she attracts. Now the wait for the next book!
I believe Avery is my absolute favorite character out of the books and that's saying alot cause I love all of Amanda's books! Avery's wacky personality is the best, that and her sarcastic mouth makes me laugh out loud!
