Xandria Trebelin, MD, is a highly trained, highly skilled Physician, certified for all known species, Alien and Human. Xandria has completed all her years of training with excellence, expecting to be hired by the most prestigious hospitals on the close-by worlds. However, she has a problem. No one will hire her. She passed every test, saved uncountable lives, found solutions for the oddest medical problems, and earned a nickname, Dr. Trouble. As in, everyone considers her a bad luck charm. Nurses and doctors don’t want to work with her because she attracts the most bizarre medical problems ever known in all species. Xandria jumps at the obscure chance of a job on a planet far, far away where perhaps they don’t know her propensity for trouble. The problem is, on her way to that planet, she runs into an unknown species—literally—and finds she has a bigger problem than not having a job. She now faces the horrible possibility she may not be able to practice medicine ever again because she can no longer touch anyone. Can she overcome her new difficulties and be able to do again what she loves the most, saving lives?
This is a cute story that follows a medical professional into an accidental, life altering flip that she must now deal with. This was fun and fast paced. A quick read that made me giggle because the Characters really came to life so well.
Dr. Trouble as Xandria has been nicknamed by her colleagues always seems to get the wildest patients. Being a doctor to a wide range of sentient beings can be fun and frustrating when you find one race you've never encountered before and they want you to solve a problem for them. Hang on for a wild and interesting ride!
A pleasant humorous introduction to a character I'd like to see more of. The author cleverly skirts most hard SF technical problems by simply ignoring them, as part of the scenery. Likeable characters, interesting situations.
