My review

What are they up to do when everyone is conspiring around them...

What a fast-paced read it was, if they were looking for an adventure, in this one place they were for sure.
Mrs Alina K Field crafted a story full of twists and turns, even if the secrets were known and the vilains easily identified, each new chapter brought its lot of surprises.
Matilda or Tillie is no swooning miss, she manages her father’s household with a firm but caring hand, so when threatening persons happen and menace her home, she won’t run away.
Freddie, in spite of his need to find the proofs he seek to free his brother, is ashamed to the means he resorts so when an occasion arises to help in some way Tillie and her father, instead of turning his back, he accepts and finds himself sitting on the fence.
But the more they get to know the other, even when not revealing their secrets, they come to a sort of truce and trust one another.
When unsaid could have caused a rift, Tillie is mature to see where lays her confidence. She won’t be swayed by ranks but rely upon her gut and her dog!

4 stars for this fast-moving romance swinging between mystery and thriller.

I was granted an advance copy by the author but also preordered my own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Tilly Fenwick and her father, The Squire, have inherited Fenwick Manor. It’s a beautiful estate but not without its quirks, including a ghost. The servants run off and Tilly is left wondering what to do when she meets a mysterious man named Freddy in the woods. She offers him a job but he declines. It’s not until her father meets Freddy that things start to get interesting. Is the “ghost” driving people away? There’s a rumor of treasure at Fenwick Manor and Tilly wonders if Freddy is after the treasure. When the truth is revealed as well as Freddy’s feelings for her, she’s conflicted. Does Freddy love her, even with her plain looks, or is he speaking platitudes to gain control of Fenwick Manor and its treasure?

This is my first hearing about the Common Elements Romance Project, and it intrigued me. Five common elements connect Haunting Miss Fenwick with the other books. Brilliant!

Haunting Miss Fenwick is a delightful romance with dashes of the supernatural and intrigue thrown in. Both Tilly and Freddy are intelligent people which I thoroughly enjoyed. The attraction between Tilly and Freddy is immediate but their romance blooms slowly. Tilly’s dog is a friendly big dog whose instincts are 100% accurate. The mystery behind the “ghost” kept me turning the pages. I couldn’t stop reading and read it in two sessions. Haunting Miss Fenwick is a character-driven story with a lot going on. Historically accurate but that is not surprising as Alina K. Field is a stickler for research.

If you’re looking for a sweet romance with suspenseful elements, pick up Haunting Miss Fenwick today. Highly recommend!

Favorite Character/Quote: Tilly. I love a spirited heroine, especially in the Regency era. She speaks her mind and more times than not, gets her into trouble. She’s very protective of those she loves and thinks nothing of putting her own life in danger. Independent, high-spirited and loves with her whole being… everything you want in a heroine.

My Rating: 5+ stars

I found this book so much fun to read and absolutely adored the characters, even Wulver the dog:) Imagine being excited to finally have your own home, only to find it "haunted" and all the household staff being scared away! Tilly will have none of that, though, and soon ousts the ghost....Freddy!! When she finds out why he's trying to scare everyone away from Fenwick Manor, the search begins for the proof needed to right a wrong. I so wish I could have been there to help them:)

A truly delightful story that will have you hooked from page one.

A truly delightful tale that grabbed my interest from the start. Miss Tilly Fenwick and her father, a squire, come to live in Fenwick Manor. Happy to have a home to call their own, it seems the house came with more than expect. A ghost! Wait, what? No, there couldn't be and Tilly sets out to prove it. She is a strong, determined young lady and although she doesn't find a ghost, she finds Freddie, who is searching the manor for information that is hidden to help his brother who has been unjustly accused.
A mystery, lovable hero and strong heroine who in the end try help each other and find an attraction that cannot be denied. Really enjoyed this story!

I liked this book, it’s a solid story. I really think 3.5 stars, but am willing to round to 4. It started slowly for me, but did pick up speed nicely. Not steamy, but there was a connection. I’m completely ok with this! I just wish the main characters had a touch more depth. It was so close! The supporting characters were good, especially the dog. Again, just a bit more depth and description. I’d definitely read this author again.

This is a romantic and suspenseful story, with some humor thrown in. A ghost has run off everyone that Tilly has hired to work at Fenwick Manor, the property her father just inherited. So Tilly tries to do all of the work, and help her father. One day while Tilly and her father were out looking for the treasure that is supposed to be on the property, and they come across Freddy, a man just passing through. They convince him to do some labor work with the squire. They don't know that he's been living in the house while looking for proof of his brother's innocence, convinced that he can save his brother with the proof. When Tilly and Freddy are near each other, they can feel the sparks between them, but Tilly thinks that she's too plain to actually attract a good looking, charming man like Freddy. Freddy doesn't want to risk ruining her because he has nothing to offer her. They end up looking for treasure together when they run into each other in a room neither thought anyone else knew about. Freddy is sweet, honorable and determined. Tilly is bold, stubborn and kind. I had a hard time putting this book down, the whole thing is fascinating.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Lovely, quick read

Alina Field has written a romance, a mystery, a ghost story and bad people receiving justice without using strong sexuality or language. Fully satisfying.

Strong, Smart, Capable Heroine… Loved It!

This book takes place on the Yorkshire coast during that small amount of time between the Regency and Victorian eras. I found it to be a delightful read. The hero thinks himself a bit crafty in the beginning, but he finds himself pitted against a very smart heroine. I loved that Tilly was so strong, capable, and intelligent. She's a far cry from many historical romance heroines—and in a good way. Although the hero was trying to make her new home appear haunted, Tilly isn't buying it. When she finds him out and discovers why, her personal sense of justice makes her want to help him despite the way he has been such a pest. (And he helps her out, too, so the relationship isn't one-sided.) I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction between these two characters. The way the author depicted it, especially in the beginning, made me smile more than once. I loved the dog, Wulver, too! There is a little suspense here, and a few surprising twists and turns despite some obvious factors. The characters are so well drawn, and the story is so well written. If you enjoy historical romantic intrigue, consider giving this book a try.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This was a sweet mystery romance. Tilly Fenwick and her father, the new Squire, have moved into their new home, Fenwick Manor. The previous Squire was killed in his bedroom and the village people all believe he is haunting Fenwick Manor since there are strange noises and things going on. Tilly is not able to convince any of the village people to come work at the manor. Freddy Sanderford had come home to correct a wrong. His younger brother had been charged with smuggling and transported. He was searching Fenwick Manor for the previous Squire's notebook containing the bribes that he had bribed the authorities with. The Fenwick's moving in had limited his search so he was "haunting" the house even though he felt guilty about causing Tilly troubles. Tilly was trying to find something of value in their new home to help with her families finances. Can they trust each other and admit what they are searching for so they can help each other? This was a great book if looking for a fast sweet romance to read. It was well written and evenly paced. The characters were great and the dog Wulver was a sweet addition to the story.

The new residents were arriving at Fenwick Manor, frustrating Captain Frederick (“Freddy”) George Sanderford. Tilly was ready to explore her new home, but finds it is allegedly haunted and the staff is all ready to abandon it and run for safety! But Tilly is not a meek young girl and will not be driven away from her new home. She is a very strong and capable young woman who does not give up. She and her dog, Wulver, will get to the bottom of things!

Tilly finds her “ghost”, Freddy, who was trying to make Tilly’s new residence appear to be haunted to keep people away while he searched it, but she immediately gets to the bottom of things. She is willing to help him seek justice in finding the proof he is looking for to right a terrible wrong. He likewise will help her and repay her kindness. Will the two of them be able to find the proof Freddy needs?

This was a well-written story that was made more enjoyable by Tilly’s capable “can do” attitude. She was definitely not the “shrinking violet” type heroine of that time period! The likable characters made it fun to read this one. Just the right touch of suspense keeps the reader happy, so grab your copy and enjoy!

Secrets of the Manor

Is the manor really haunted? Perhaps it is not, but it holds secrets. Can Freddy and Tillie find the truth? This story has both romance and mystery. There are both heroes and villains, and greed is at the heart of the matter. I enjoyed this story. Who can resist a manor with secret passages? This is my first story by this author, and I look forward to reading more.

I really enjoyed this book. It's more than just your usual regency romance. Captain Frederick George Sanderford is searching a mansion to find evidence to right a wrong. Enter Miss Fenwick and her father who as recently inherited the estate. Freddie comes up with the plan to make the house appear haunted hoping to make them leave. He hasn't counted on Tilly being made of sterner stuff than that. When she discovers him and learns his story she sets about helping him. Will they find what they seek and survive the danger surrounding them.

Freddy Sanderford had come home to correct a wrong. His younger brother had been charged with smuggling and transported. As Tilly investigates the hauntings and tales of a ghost she comes across something much more interesting! I loved this story, I really enjoy stories in which the heroine is strong and determined. The characters are well developed and i really liked them! The story is entertaining and engaging and well paced. Loved the elements of mystery and intrigue! and the HEA! Recommended!

I really liked this and did not want to stop reading. There is a degree of suspense as Tilly learns of Freddy's secrets and witnesses some actions which threaten her trust in him. In too many novels a character will jump to the wrong conclusion, becoming blind to the truth. Fortunately that is not the case here; as a mature, intelligent young woman, Tilly is not quick to judge. She also has her dog's keen instinct to rely upon.

This captivating romantic mystery was full of wonderful characters and a terrific plot. Intrigue, suspense, trust, justice, friendship, determination, hope, and love were some of the underlying themes. Tilly was capable, strong, clever, caring, resourceful, and charming, and Freddy was brilliant whether he was fixing fences, catching villains, playing a footman, or wooing the woman of his dreams. I’m looking forward to reading more by this talented author.

Haunting Miss Fenwick is part of A Common Elements Romance Project Regency Romance. I loved this historical romance. Tilly is a wonderful character, strong, caring, and loving, and she is not going to let anyone scare her away from her new home. The rest of the characters are also well defined. The story is well written, with mystery, suspense, secrets, a delightful canine, Wulver, and a sweet romance.

Loved the dog.
I love the cover on this book and what is between the covers was a marvelous read. Freddy and Tilly’s first meeting did not go so well but Freddy has a mission and he may be attracted but other things must be taken care of. The author has written not just one but two very smart characters and that are a bit different and were so entertaining. Loved the story I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I wish more time was devoted to the mystery as well as the H&h relationship. While the book wasn't rushed, it was definitely condensed. The action sequences could have been better had not there been oddly placed steamy moments. I get that the H is a good guy, but the author could have had so much fun with drama to put him in a predicament with self-interest. Disappointed that it wasn't a true bodice ripper.
