I hate public speaking! I have tried many times but I still hate it. According to an American study 75% of people fear public speaking more than they fear death?! I have not validated the stats but I am glad that I am not alone! This is a reference book of public speaking ever published. Highly recommended!
I used to say to my teammates that presentation is to "present" a gift that when they open it they are surprised and want to do something with it. In the opening of the book, Anderson emphasized that your number-one mission as a speaker is to take something that matters deeply to you and to rebuild it inside the minds of your listeners. We'll call that something an idea. A mental construct that they can hold on to, walk away with, value, and in some sense be changed by. It is so true!!!
Being born as a super introvert I really hate speaking in front of people but public speaking is a must-have skill for businessmen. The only way to overcome the fear is to face it! That’s why I keep publishing research papers and go to industry conferences to present them to large audiences. I am also teaching at some universities to gain experience of public speaking. Please join me with the journey of anxiety, nervousness but excitement of public speaking!
