Carter Lenox has two regrets—hesitating on a mission in Afghanistan with disastrous consequences and pushing away Delaney Walker. When he gets word the love of his life is in trouble and she needs him more than ever, the decision to go home is an easy one.
Delaney Walker has loved Carter since they were children. She’s waited for him between missions hoping he’d eventually open his heart and they could be together. But when she suffers a devastating loss, one she must keep a secret, Delaney decides it’s time to stop waiting for her SEAL and move on.
With the threat closing in, Delaney has no choice but to turn to Carter. If she can find the courage to trust Carter’s promises and share her secret, their future will be full of the life and love they’ve always wanted. If not, Delaney may not only lose her first love, but her life.

I love Me. Riley work, I really do...until Adoring Delaney. 68% of the book dwelling, grieving, a miscarriage. I'm not opposed to that but...Damn. More than half of a book in that? Me. Riley hints in previous books of Carter & Delaney's on and off relationship, their huge family "knowing -but-not knowing". I just want to read while the book was making me sleepy.
At the 72% something happened... Yeah, Not. I was finally hoping for fireworks and they're wet, so...no fire. The book just keeping a loop of miscarriage-love-love not-miscarriage. The story is drowsy, drowsy and so slow that I want to finally see "THE END". Even the parents, aunt's and uncles were turn into mushing. Sadly, not the best work of Ms. Riley
I think I could have liked this story more if the hero's father wasn't in it. People kept comparing him to his dad, but they weren't even in the same ballpark when it came to being a dick. His father had that title hands down. Don't try to rewrite history by saying how much Carter's father loved his mother. He didn't or he wouldn't have done what he did all those years. So I hated the comparisons.
But Carter should have done better, and Delaney should have expected better. So this was a bit meh.
Although I loved the plot and the actual book I will say I'm mad that the MC's took so long to be together. And I'm mad because Carter didn't let Laney decided wether she wanted to be with him even when he was in the military or not.
As I read the powerful romance, Adoring Delaney, every word, phrase and sentence conveyed such emotions as; sorroow, despair, recriminations, forgiveness, joy, and elation, The underlying message of family love and support came through loud and clear. I was drawn into this wonderful tale because of Riley Edwards ability to paint vivid pictures with her creative prowess. A proviso...you might want to gave a tissue or 25 close at hand while reading this romance.
Although Carter Lenox has been in every Next Generation book, he has been somewhat of an elusive character and Delaney was featured in Finding Mercy. They finally gets their own story in Adoring Delaney. Carter and Delaney have loved each other since their early teens. In fact, as Carter puts it, he "was born to be her man." That's not to say that they relationship journey was an easy one. It is filled with lots of hellos and goodbyes, heartaches and happiness. But in the end they do get their HEA.
This one was interesting due to how long these 2 have been interested in each other, hiding that (or thinking they were), then hiding from each other things that bothered them. It all came to a head when something awful happened to Delaney. While what happened was truly terrible, some good came out of it. It actually forced both Carter and Delaney to realize what they wanted, what they were willing to put up with and just how honest they needed to be with each other. It was easy for them, but they fought for what was important and ended up in a great place.
The long awaited story of Delaney and Carter is finally here and in true Riley Edwards form, this book ticks all the boxes and you best have tissues ready.
I read this book in one sitting and went through a gamut of emotions. I was angry and frustrated at Carter, I kept screaming at him (via my Kindle, of course) to get his head out of his arse. It took a stern talking to, an intervention of sorts from his Dad (Lenox of Free from 707 series) for Carter to finally man up. He redeemed himself so beautifully after that. Delaney just breaks my heart, she carried so much guilt and she pushed everyone that loved her away. She tried her best to moved on from Carter, even to the extent of dating a fellow teacher! In the end her love for Carter won and she cautiously allowed him back into her life. The scenes where Delaney and Carter finally told their family and extended as to what really happened to her was a sobfest for me. I love all the characters from this series making appearances throughout this book. However, there's a sinister presence looming and Delaney might find herself in danger again.
In this book Ms Edwards introduced us to Carters team mates ... Logan, Trey, Drake, Matt, Luke and I can totally see more books coming our way! Needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to spinoffs!
Carter is an alpha male who had been in love with Delaney since they were teens. Sharing first everything... these two have a push and pull relationship because he never wanted her to be a widow. Delaney lost their child after being kidnapped in the previous book... something she can't get over.
Her sisters are Mercy, Honor, Meadow, and Tuesday...
“You’re right, there’s not. That’s why we’re not going there. We’re going forward. And I don’t think I have anything worked out. I know I do. I know because you were meant to be mine. I was born to be your man. Born, Laney, not made into. I was put on this earth to love you. No other reason. And, baby, that’s what I’m gonna do. We’re gonna dig all the bad shit out and we’re doing that by moving forward.” Him 😍😍🔥🔥
“A part of me will always love you. You were my first everything. My first love, my first kiss, the first man to touch me, the first to make love to me. But you’re also my first heartbreak. The first and only man to break me. A bigger part of me knows I deserve better. Please let me go so I can find it.” Her
“Laney baby, we’ve been together since the day you kissed me on the beach and told me you loved me.” Him
**Chemistry 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌 **Slow burn **Childhood friends to lovers **Alpha/Possessive guy
3.5 Stars. From the past books, I knew quite a bit about Carter and Delaney’s unconventional relationship and her tragic secret. Even though they professed their love, the way he treated her like a dirty secret and how she allowed him to come and go from her bed, it didn’t feel like a relationship with much respect. Carter wants a fresh start with Delaney and she wants a fresh start, but just not with Carter. He has hurt enough and she had guilt from keeping an important event from him. Of course as a Navy Seal, Carter goes all alpha male on Delaney and pushes forward with his plan to get her back into his life. Her father encourages Carter’s macho male behavior. Personally, I am not impressed when a man tries to be all controlling. Even though, I wanted a HEA, I wished Carter had a less dominating attitude. I also felt the ending was too familiar to the other books in this series. I would have appreciated some originality.
This was the book I was waiting for, I new it would be heart-wrenching, I knew it would be an emotional roller coaster, I knew I would be a blubbering mess throughout this story and I was right and it was f..king wonderful to read...
Carter and Delaney's story is probably one of the most anticipated book by Riley Edwards I was looking forward to...and it did not disappoint. Wide range of emotions that it put me through. A great read!
Omg I have been waiting patiently for carter and Delaney's book. I am going to say you will need tissues close by when you read it. Carter and Delaney have been soulmates since they were young ,but when Delaney is kidnapped and loses her and Carters baby in the last book can Delaney recover from the loss and when Carter shows up after leaving the seals can Carter come home and win back her heart or is it to late? This book was absolutely a emotional rollercoaster ride and found myself crying alot with them. I absolutely loved it. Riley is such a Amazing and gifted writer who makes you connect with the characters and their pain. This book was absolutely fantastic and worth the wait.
I think it is important that readers be aware and check trigger warnings for this book. If you have read at the very least Finding Mercy you should be aware of the triggers but please make sure you are checking them.
After a text and call from his father while stationed overseas letting him know that something happened to Delaney, Carter Lenox knows he has to make a change before he really loses everything. When Carter makes it home on leave, Delaney is no longer the girl she was when he last saw her. He becomes a man determined to get his second chance with Delaney Walker, the love of his life, but Delaney is dead set moving on.
The angst and emotional trauma these two relive is a lot. This is a love story, but man it is one that hurts on the way. Of course, as we all do, we keep things hidden or separated because we think we know best for the other person. So as we all know, secrets and hidden things don't always protect the other but do more damage in the end. There was a lot of frustration for me wanting to smack both Carter and Delaney (Carter A LOT more) upside the head for just NOT talking to each other. But we know that talking about our trauma doesn't come naturally especially when we know that it will hurt the other person too.
I was happy to see Delaney stand up for herself and to stop looking through the rose colored glasses she wore for years allowing herself to be treated as she was. I was more happy to see Carter wake TF up and see what all of his "protective" steps had actually done.
This story is a journey, and it isn't filled with sunshine, rainbows, and funny moments. It is filled with heartbreak, tears, and finding yourself. A story of grief and healing.
Devon Grace and Troy Duran do such a fantastic job with this story. The realness to the emotion and the story they both bring and they navigate the journey of Delaney and Carter is spectacular. Their storytelling ability added a whole new layer to this story.
There was some points in this book where I almost caught myself tearing up. Wow. Devon Grace was really able to pull at your heart strings during those moments.
Riley Edwards is a master storyteller and Delaney and Carter's story does not disappoint. Super sexy scenes along with laugh out loud scenes keep the reader captivated throughout. Now I want to go back and re-read Carter and Delaney's parents stories in the 707 series.
Unimpressed. For more than ten years Carter Lenox has taken Delaney Walker for granted. Three years her senior, he gave her a forbidden kiss at thirteen. In high school he wouldn’t date her, yet, made certain everyone knew she was unavailable, hence untouchable.
He left for the Naval Academy, and she dutifully awaited for his return. That summer after she graduated, he finally physically claimed her since he’d verbally done so when he was fifteen. She’s been a wallflower, never been on a date, never had a man, never even looked at anyone else.
They’ve loved each other since they were teenagers, yet he’s always held her at arm’s length pushing her away...his dirty secret.
I am not familiar with his father’s backstory, but I can attest the confession he made to Carter of his twelve years whoring around as he secretly witnessed his wife visiting his grave, mourning him, fills me with utter revulsion.
That’s despicable and inexcusable.
Delaney spent the majority of this book mourning her personal loss.
1. Huge info dump in the first chapter. 2. There was nothing to tell you when the POV changed so you had to figure it out on your own. 3. Ok, Carter was a total dick. He pushed Delaney away for YEARS and then all of a sudden, he decided he was wrong and he just expected her to fall at his feet? Then, he found out about the miscarriage and he deserted her AGAIN? And, when he decided to come back, he's pissed at HER because she didn't tell him about the baby? And then, he tells her that as of now, they have a clean slate and they're starting over and she has no choice about it??? F#% that $hit!! I'm outa here. DNF

An excellent but sad story with a HEA. It's a story about young love, nightmares from Carter's time as a Seal, and some things lost and can't recover. Delaney and Carter have loved each other since they were children. But now they are adults and Delaney has been thru some rough times that Carter doesn't know about. But Delaney's past comes back to haunt her and hopes it's not a repeat error on her part. If you like steam there is plenty of that. Most of the action takes place at the end of the book. HEA.
❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌ Felt like I was put in a middle of the book where h and H has an on and off relationship, h had a baby from H, was kidnapped? Plus H treated h like a dirty secret, jumping in her bed and then leaving her again, honestly I was just mad that it seemed like I should’ve read other books to understand what was happening between them because they already have a freaking relationship with all the miscarriage and shit and what H did? He just left her the asshole
The highly anticipated story of Carter Lenox & Delaney Walker has finally arrived. Riley Edwards has become a master of emotions and I am willingly held captive. The level of emotional intensity is palpable when reading Carter & Delaney’s story. Their pain & heart ache bleeds from the pages and into your heart. It is all consuming, heart wrenching and completely beautiful in its complexity & healing powers. This is a powerful story of souls breaking & healing together and finding their truest self with each other. Family is a foundational theme in this book as it has been in all of the 707 & 707 Next Generation books. Family consistently being together, protecting each other, all while sharing the unexpected highs and lows of life. I applaud Riley Edwards in her efforts to create such deep bonds within these non-blood related families. Bonds, forged by fire and death, were created by a group of men who had each others’ backs long before there was anyone special in their own lives. It was a joy to see those bonds of family and friendship continue long past the original 707 men’s days at war. Special thanks to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Carter Lenox is a man determined to see this second chance with Delaney Walker, the love of his life, through. But when Carter arrives back stateside after a deadly mission, Delaney is resistant to any sort of relationship with Carter - going so far as to avoid him and push him away every chance she gets. Well Carter & Delaney’s families have had enough of them dancing around each other - acting as if they don’t have a relationship when they have for years.
The 707 men quickly put Carter in his place and make him sort out his mess of a life before pursuing Delaney. No more secrets, no more lies by omission. Carter wants to hit the reset button on their relationship. He wants to do right by her - going so far as to ask her on a date. As their relationship begins to blossom once again, the old and the new collide in unexpected ways. Carter struggles with memories of a mission gone wrong and the lies of an eye for an eye. Delaney struggles to leave the past behind and move forward without the emotional baggage of their unconventional relationship. Carter pushes Delaney to let him in fully, to share the secrets behind her sullen eyes, even though it could break him in two. When someone begins messing with Delaney’s car and sending threatening messages, it’s up to Carter and his family to put a stop to these escalating acts of violence before it’s too late. Carter wasn’t there for Delaney before, but can he be here for her now? Will Carter finally be able to come home to the comfort of Delaney’s arms and just be Delaney’s Carter? Or will everything they’ve worked so hard to build again be taken away?

In previous stories, Delaney was portrayed as strong, curious and kind independent woman. After an incident, , she retrieves from her family into herself. This already occurred in previous stories.
In this book, Carter finally gets home after learning something is wrong with Delaney and the shitshow can finally start.
I am really really getting tired of weak “villains”, that exist only to make some short drama and perish, having absolutely no backstory and behaving in a way that makes no sense, immediately going crazy once discovered and blabbering everything about their revenge plan. They don’t even act like humans, they more resemble a PC game NPC’s, because they usually have no depth, they are just full of hate and violence, with no proper reason, and they usually have no intelligence. Meh.
The End.
I don’t know. The plot was somewhat missing, the dealing with the lost felt unreal, Carter and Delaney had no chemistry whatsoever, and action drama could be spotted from miles away and made no sense.
This was definitely the most emotional book in The Next Generation series. We have been introduced to Carter and Delaney a handful of times throughout the series thus far, but I was so excited to finally get their story. To be able to dig deeper to learn and understand the reasons for their secret relationship they kept from their families for so many years was finally a reprieve.
Carter and Delaney have been riding back and forth on the seesaw of life in terms of their relationship. They have been a part of each other’s lives since children and began to cross lines at the young age of 13 and 16 with their first kiss. Over the years their relationship progressed little by little but it was never enough for Delaney. She wanted more but Carter just couldn’t give her that. After a harrowing experience overseas while deployed on assignment and learning what happened to Delaney during her kidnapping, it made Carter open his eyes and rush home to settle down with the love of his life. Unfortunately Delaney was ready to move on and was tired of waiting.
This story is a journey full of heartbreak, familial support, sacrifices, loyalty, trust, and unconditional love with suspense, anxiety, nerves, and nail-biting energy intermixed. I can’t get enough of how much family is so important and portrayed in every single book. It always makes my heart so happy to see the parents and children intertwined together and how Riley reflects the love they all for each other continuously.
Of course we got another brilliant performance from the very talented Troy Duran and Devon Grace. The way they were able to make these characters words and emotions come to life is remarkable. Troy’s portrayal of Carter once again shows his uncanny ability to bring a broody, swoon-worthy, emotional MC to the forefront of the story. Devon never fails to bring us listeners the demure, soft-spoken, as well as fierce FMC to life with every book in this series. She put all of her emotions and energy into every word throughout this story, and it definitely showed. Devon made me feel as if I was inside the pages with Delaney experiencing the same emotions as her. Together, these narrators are ones you don’t want to miss out on. They do such a beautiful job with every story and each character and bringing them to life for our listening pleasure.
Heartbreakingly Beautiful: Adoring Delaney Takes Emotional Rollercoaster to New Heights Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥
Riley Edwards delivers another stunning installment in "The Next Generation" series with "Adoring Delaney." As the fifth book in the series, Edwards continues to captivate readers with her ability to weave intricate emotional tapestries that leave hearts shattered yet hopeful.
OMG, where do I even begin? Once again, Edwards has managed to take the emotional intensity up a notch, leaving readers like me on the edge of our seats. "Adoring Delaney" is a journey through anguish and heartache, a rollercoaster of emotions that had me reaching for the tissues from the very first page. I cried, I laughed, and I cried some more. This book, much like its predecessors, tore me apart and then gently pieced me back together.
One of the things I adore about Edwards' writing is her ability to infuse mystery seamlessly into the fabric of love and romance. In "Adoring Delaney," the suspense keeps you on your toes, adding an extra layer of depth to an already gripping narrative. And let's not forget the dual POVs, which offer a rare glimpse into the minds of both main characters, enriching the storytelling experience.
The synopsis alone had me hooked, and Edwards did not disappoint. The love between Carter and Delaney is palpable, woven with threads of longing and regret. Carter's decision to come home to Delaney in her time of need speaks volumes about the strength of their bond, while Delaney's resilience in the face of tragedy is both inspiring and heart-wrenching.
In "Adoring Delaney," trust is tested, secrets are revealed, and love is the ultimate salvation. Edwards has crafted a masterpiece that will stay with me long after I've turned the final page. This is unquestionably one of my favorite books in the series, a testament to the author's talent for storytelling and her ability to evoke such raw, visceral emotions in her readers.
If you're looking for a book that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride, "Adoring Delaney" is a must-read. Just be sure to have plenty of tissues handy—you're going to need them.
I think this is my favourite of all RE’s books....so far.
I adore Zane, crush on Brice but Carter I love the most.
I just want to thirst punch Carter...he just really deserves it. Yes he has hurt feelings over the decisions HE made about Delaney over the years but ultimately, he made the decision, he kept walking away and he kept telling her to move on. So he doesn’t get the right to be upset when she does surely..
Delaney is so strong, so sure of her feelings and that it will all work out right up to the point 2 books ago when her world ended never to be the same again. The secret she keeps, the pain and guilt she feels over that have changed her. Everyone knows something is wrong and can see she’s dying inside but she isn’t opening up to anyone and worse, she won’t see or talk to Carter. The door has closed, he comes home, she isn’t there. He calls, she doesn’t answer. He texts, she tells him to leave her alone. And he really really doesn’t know why. So in typical guy fashion he pushes and pushes and pushes till it all comes out.
That isn’t even anywhere near the end as we follow this longtime secret couple navigate the trials and tribulations of being a real couple, forgiving each other for the past (mainly Delaney!) and forging ahead so sure of their future (mainly Carter!)
Then (obvs because it’s RE) the threat crystallises and Carter and Delaney will have to fight even harder to get any ever after, never mind a happy one
Love love love this book and I return to it regularly to both read in full or browse my favourite parts. It’s a total must read for me.
Kick ass and family and mistakes Strong, sassy Delaney and stubborn Carter...it's about time! We've see him dancing around Delaney for near on 3 books or so. So now game on!!! The one flaw, and in direct opposition, the one strength these drop dead wonderful alphas have is their sense of self sacrifice. Its always a wonderful way to start Riley's books. Carter acted like an ass and needed a kick in the butt, yay for the family, especially Lily. I'm kinda smug that he went through some crap and pain along the way. Delaney has been through hell, even before it was her story. She's been a rock throughout. Some believe she should have ditched her marine but in Riley's world. True love holds fast. Although, tragedy, loss and love made for some silly thinking on Delaney's part, desperation is a fickle beast. However some of her actions were both obvious and surprising knowing the dilemma she went through. I thought this was going to be just a push pull love story...but nope...there was some hard truths weaving it's way through this plotline. The emotional pull shrouding it all is heart wrenching and tissue worthy. The clever way which Riley entwines past and present demons is sorrowful yet brilliant. In my opinion, the strength, involvement and love of family is more prominent in this book than any other and it was beautifully sad to get a reminder of past stories. For the first time I cried, the speech from Dad... "hand me the handkerchief." There was dialogue in here that described each character's daily life but Riley's magic craft kept it intriguing and wanting. Not to mention how much steam these 2 gave off...often. OMG! Then the suspense begins! It left me wondering..who the hell is this now? The angst drives forward fast and urgent it was so exciting I was on the edge.... We get to experience all..and I mean all the alphas. I Just soaked up the generation guys and their freedom kin. This book is the complete epitome of family loyalty, trust and unconditional love....a perfect book of romantic suspense and exactly Riley's wonderful trope. HEA's and families to envy and love. P.s. and here comes Quinn. Devon and Troy...I kneel....you've done it again and breathed life into Carter and Delaney
Carter and Delaney have dealt with a lot of emotional turmoil over many years they’ve been in love. Delaney stood by praying Carter would come home safe and finally lay claim to her. Each time he left, gutted her. Then Delaney had a horrific experience and Carter wasn’t there.
Carter, a navy seal, had been in love with Delaney since she was 15 years old. He was strong willed, bossy, funny and melted for “Laney” whenever she looked at him.
Delaney, a school teacher, had been struggling with the most painful secret. Only trusting Mercy to help her get through. While she was feisty and stubborn, she was so kind and caring of others. She’d put her love life on permanent hold for Carter.
“A part of me will always love you. You were my first everything. My first love, my first kiss, the first man to touch me, the first to make love to me. But you’re also my first heartbreak. The first and only man to break me. A bigger part of me knows I deserve better. Please let me go so I can find it.”
Troy and Devon made these characters words and emotions consume me. Needless to say I had a box of tissues close by until the very end. The anguish, the love, the conflicting emotions…they were all there. I felt each emotion as the story was performed.
Carter and Delaney were destined to be together. I loved hearing their backstory as teens and how their relationship evolved. Their families continue to provide an amazing bond, especially through something so heartbreaking. The banter between fathers, uncles, sons and cousins always provides comic relief. This series has been an emotional roller coaster but one I would buy admission tickets to ride over and over!
Oh oh oh man...this book should come with a warning....Tissues Needed...lots of tissues...boxes of tissues...to make it through this story of Carter and Delaney. Two people who have kept their relationship secret (or so they thought) for many years. Secrets are revealed, a heartbreaking tragedy out in the open, a threat exposed, and a love so strong finally comes out of the closet. Carter and Delaney’s relationship is really really tested which only true love and soul mates will be able to pass and both find out the true bond they both have with their family and friends. If I was to write all the things I LOVED about this book, I would reveal too much and tell the story in this review. I will say that I LOVED Carter and his nickname monk and what it stands for...now that is a real man in my eyes. I LOVED Delaney and how she stands up for herself and truly thinks about everything thoroughly and doesn’t let a few words or actions break her, just the right amount of time to make their relationship even more special. An AMAZING read with steam...steam...steam...a heartbreaking tragedy, love, support, sacrifices, some humour, some suspense, and true love that will stand the test of time. The story flowed beautifully and smoothly, the characters were spot on, a story that had me reaching for the tissues, more times than I can remember and an ending that could melt any heart....WELL DONE and worth more than the 5 stars allowed !! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
This is the newest book in the Next Generation series and in it we finally get Delaney and Carter's story!! Delaney has loved Carter since they were kids, but after waiting and waiting for him to finally want to be with her full time-she has given up. He wasn't there when the worst happened, and it's time for her to finally realize that her dream isn't going to come true. And it's time to move on. Carter has things that he regrets in his life. But when his family tells him something is wrong with Delaney and she refuses to see or speak to him anymore after telling him they are through? He knows that what he has done has affected more than just himself, he just doesn't know to what extent. And he knows that it is time to make a change and fully commit himself to the woman he loves. But will he be too late?
I absolutely loved their story!! I was really hoping that they would be able to work things out and truly make and this in no way disappoints! Delaney went through something absolutely horrific and when she finally starts talking about it? Your heart will absolutely break. I am not afraid to admit that it made me cry. And Carter's reaction? Yeah, I cried some more. This book brings you all the emotions! From heartache, anger, fear, to happiness for them and their families. It was perfect and gave them the HEA that I absolutely wanted! And the way their families stepped up and stood beside them? LOVED IT!!! Now I have to impatiently wait for the next one so I can get my fix of this next generation!!
Adoring Delaney was one of Riley Edwards’ more emotional listens for me. Chalk-full of her signature suspense, a protective hero, and one of Riley’s most kind-hearted and tragic heroines to-date, Adoring Delaney still has me wrapped-up in my feelings! Carter Lenox is a stubborn navy seal who has kept the love of his life at arms length for decades. Delaney knows she was made for Carter Lenox and is resigned to wait for him. That is until tragedy strikes and she flips the script on her once-distant hero. The tension between Carter & Delaney is palpable; the spice is HOT between them! Grab your tissues, curl up on the couch and settle in for an emotional rollercoaster; Riley Edwards takes heartbreak to a whole new level in this book. I love the 707 Universe community and man oh man, do they band together in this book! It’s a beautiful thing. Adoring Delaney is everything you could want in a second-chance romance; this angst-filled, first loves, mutual pining romance will make you laugh, cry, and probably facepalm when Carter’s being a loveable dumdum.
Troy Duran and Devon Grace have brought this entire series to life with outstanding performances. But this genuine, raw, heartwarming love story takes the cake. Troy gives a great performance as the haunted, cocky, devoted-to-the-core Carter. Devon Grace is phenomenal as the demure, brassy, fiercely loyal, enchanting Delaney. Check the TWs, while Finding Mercy set up Delaney’s traumatic event, this book has some tough moments. For readers who venture into this pulse-pounding listen, the HEA is well worth the heartbreaking journey.
Each book in The Next Generation Series keeps getting better and better! This is the fifth book in this series so we’ve already been introduced to Delaney, Carter, and their secret relationship briefly in the previous books. I was very interested to see how things were going to play out and Ms. Edwards does not disappoint! Carter and Delaney are probably the most frustrating of the main characters so far, they have the most trauma that they need to come to terms with. Their undeniable attraction and lifelong love for each other can be felt through all the little interactions and ways that they can’t stay away from each other. I I felt the rollercoaster of emotions that both characters were going through and their frustrations with each other as they both tried to break old habits. The emotions and sentimentality, in regards to the family, that run throughout this book brought me to tears multiple times. I think Ms. Edwards does a fantastic job of creating a family, both immediate and extended, that you wish you were a part of. Devon Grace and Troy Duran continue to give a high quality performance to each character. I was especially impressed with the strength and emotions Ms. Grace brought to the table for Delaney. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys an emotional secret childhood sweethearts love story with some suspense, romance, and spice. Content warning: Contains talk about the loss of a baby. I received an Advanced Listeners Copy in exchange for my honest review.
