The girl being lured away

The trafficking survivor trying to save her

Kaylee Roberts, sophomore and varsity soccer player, is furious when her arch nemesis not only beats her for the half-back position on the team, but then sends a picture of Kaylee’s eczema-covered face on fire to the whole school. It’s not like she needs a reminder about her skin condition. Lucky for Kaylee, she’s been chatting online with a basketball player from another school who appreciates her photography skills and likes her for who she is.

Seventeen year old Warren Scott’s plan to get out of juvie and rescue his best friend from a trafficker goes out the window when he gets into a fight defending another kid. He’s expecting a reprimand, but instead gets an offer: join a specialized team of sex trafficking survivors who go into high schools to find and warn teenagers who are being targeted by predators. The rich guy in charge promises Warren help finding his friend in exchange for his time.

Warren agrees, but while he and his partner are desperately trying to find the target, he starts having crippling flashbacks of his old life. In the meantime Kaylee’s amazing and supportive online boyfriend tells her he loves her. She loves him too, and wants to show him.

Can Warren find Kaylee before it’s too late, or will Kaylee be #Lured away to a fate Warren knows all too well?

I have to admit this one was really hard to read. I almost stopped. I"m so glad I didn't. What's even harder is knowing this is real. It really happens and that makes me sick to my stomach. I really love the fact that each story is a little different with different techniques, scenarios, and boys and girls. Sometimes reality is a hard pill to swallow and this story as well as it is written is a hard pill to swallow. It's is a sad but humbling truth that not always to parents know their kids that well.
Yet, all it takes is a moment of time to pay attention, really see, or observe. It just curdles my blood. I've got to be a better mother.

Another great installment in the series! I really enjoyed how this one touched on bullying and sex trafficking, because I think it makes it more relevant to the target audience. I really loved Warren in this story. He was so easy to empathize with, to care about! Unfortunately, his partner was largely forgettable, which detracted from the story a bit. Definitely one that addresses two issues affecting teens today!

I had enjoyed the first book and so continued the series. This series North Star focuses on saving students from ending up in terrible situations like they all had before. From cyber bullying to human trafficking to revenge based consequences. Kaylee Roberts is one of those young females in high school that is teased and treated terribly as she suffers from acne and not only does her mum want her to look stunning all the time, she is bullied by Alison - a mean girl at her school and someone she is competition with on the soccer team. Kaylee has always loved taking pictures and sharing them on Instagram, what happens though when Kaylee is friended by "funguy82" and the pair start sending each other photos including sexual ones. Soon , she is targeted and her photos held for ransom and are threatened to be released to the public. Kaylee has been catfished. On the other hand, Warren as a child was sold to human traffickers and abused. He then spent his teen life in juvie court and now he has been given the opportunity via Cyrus Black to help other teens not get into the same experiences that he had. Now Warren has gone undercover to the high school, to help save Kaylee - the thing though is the North Star team do not know that it is her being targeted. Can they figure it out before it's too late? Find out in Book #2 - Lured by Jo Schneider. I am now looking forward to continuing and reading the rest of this series and I also hope that Cyrus Black gets a HEA and finds his daughter.

Another tough book to read about sex trafficking and also big time bullying. Especially bullying and how it really is painful for any school age kid.

This one is a little bit different than the first. It's crazy and scary to know how these people can say things to pull boys/girls/teens into doing what they want them to do on the internet.

I'm glad the ending was good. It was not easy for me to keep reading. I wanted to go through the book and shake Kaylee and tell her to stop doing what she's doing. It's also good stuff to know so we can be aware of it and to help others.

I still am in awe of how well these authors have done this book. I read both of the books in series in one sitting.
The writing is done in such a way that it is not overly explicit which is good.
It's so frightening how easy it is for the kids to be lured away.
No matter how much we tell them the fact is it could still happen and this terrifies me.
I wish these were mandatory in all schools across the world as it needs to be.
These are not brow beating books: it is extremely eye opening is what they are.
I have to say I was crying at points in the book for what these poor children faced in life.
I highly recommend reading and supporting these books.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was a good book about a tough subject. The characters were well formed and easy to sympathize with. Real emotion as a response to the book suggests realistic characters and a good job done by the author. The situations seemed highly likely to happen in the real world. This book was reviewed by an ARC reader of Jo Schneider for an honest review.

A soccer-playing girl has a skin condition and is bullied about it by a girl who is also a rival for her spot on the soccer team. When all seems lost she becomes friends with a boy one of her friends has played basketball against......or so they think. Two teens are undercover looking for the girl to help her. Can they find her before she is "Lured" away?

Social media can be very difficult to control.

This story needs to be publicized to help make parents and children of all ages more aware of some of the pitfalls of social media. It's an amazing and useful way to socialise but so many ways it can be used by predators to lure young people into dangerous situations.
This story is very interesting and the characters are very endearing as their friendships face challenges. A must read for all ages.

Outstanding

Every parent should read this along with their children and discuss it together. This is so relevant in today's world. I could have so easily been a victim when I was a teenager as I had very little parental involvement in my life. Thank you for bringing this important topic in a way that parents can openly discuss this sensitive topic.

Amazing story

Breaks my heart that there are people out there tricking kids by telling them what they want to hear and eventually get them to do things they would never do otherwise. Before they know they are caught in their trap. This is an amazing series

Its so crazy that this actually happens and that there are crazy, mean, bad people that do this. And I think this book is really good for letting people know why and how this happens. I think that more people should know and be aware that this is a major issue everywhere!!
