I have read a variety of books about speed reading as it is a topic that I find interesting as a reader and a writer. This particular book is a very quick read. I think the subtitle is a little overblown; reading faster doesn't always necessarily lead to learning faster or achieving more. The author gives you a bird's-eye view of a variety of common speed reading techniques and exercises. The ones shared are the ones typically found in books about speed reading. Interestingly, the author share one idea I don't typically see in speed reading books. He has a chapter on expanding your vocabulary as a means of improving your reading speed. The connection, of course, is not as direct as specifically working with the written page in a variety of ways, as you do with the techniques and exercises. But as I am a word person, I like the idea of anyone expanding their vocabulary, and if it serves the purpose of helping reading speed, that's fine. Other than that, no new ground is really covered here, and some descriptions of what to do are too sparse for someone who is new to speed reading techniques and exercises. There were also issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage scattered throughout the book. I found it interesting, too, that this book seems to be a lead magnet to get you to buy a speed reading course, to which there is a link at the back of the book. If you are interested in speed reading but haven't done much with it, I would recommend a more detailed book than this one.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This was the first book I have ever read about speed reading, so I had no idea what to expect. Before this book, I thought speed reading was just training yourself to move your eyes over the words as fast as possible while trying to catch the gist of what was written. After reading this book, I realize that I was so wrong.
This is a short read full of useful information and realistic techniques for improving reading skills. There is a lot of "why" people are slow readers with tips and exercises to overcome what many of us have been taught through our years in public school.
I enjoyed the exercises and the explanations of why they are important to speed reading. However, sometimes the information felt redundant and wordy.
One big downfall for me was the number of errors in the first half of the book. Some sentences I had to reread to make sure I wasn't reading the line wrong.
"The trick is to this approach is to take" and "What message the done writer want to convey through this book?" were just two that I found.
In all, this seems to be a short and sweet book for those that are interested in learning the skill of speed reading.
Thank you to Book Sirens for the advanced copy of this book. I received this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Everyone wants to be able to read faster and understand more of what they read. This book presents some easy ways to get there.
Try putting your finger, or a pencil, at the end of each line. Move it down the page at faster than your normal reading speed, forcing your eyes, and your comprehension, to keep up. Put a ruler under each line, and do the same. Try reading just the first, and last, sentences of each paragraph. Focus your eyes on the center of each line, and let your peripheral vision read the rest of each line.
Another possibility is to read the first full line of the page, focus on the center of the line for the rest of the page, and then read the last full line of the page, like the letter "I." There are many exercises included, for when your eyes get tired or sore. Like any new skill, this will require lots of practice.
If it is not possible to become one of those people who can read an entire novel in less than one day, don't worry. Any increase in reading speed is automatically a good thing. This book is short, easy to read and very much worth checking out.
Have you've ever wanted to know how to read faster? Or how to comprehend faster? This is the book for you. It teaches you to comprehend what your reading faster. You first have to time yourself on how long you can read a paragraph. You then use a ruler to block out everything else except for the sentence you are reading. This is a great trick and it works. I tried it. The instructions were easy to follow and I thought inventive. The writing clear and precise. I enjoyed this book very much and will be looking for more books by this author. I'd like to thank the author and BOOKSIRENS.COM for this free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am always looking for new things to learn and I hoped this book would help me pick up some speed and comprehension in the reading area. I found a lot of helpful information. Some I have read before but some were new. I think that since the author did not write this book specifically for me but for a large audience, some perhaps with no understanding of this topic, this book is a great book who is new to this topic or wants to add some information.
