Mingled Roots : A Guide for Jewish Grandparents of Interfaith Grandchildren

Rate this book
Sunie Levin's book is a must-have for every Jewish grandparent as they struggle to create a lasting relationship with their interfaith grandchildren.

Establishing a meaningful friendship with a grandchild can be hard for any grandparent. The addition of religious tension can make the task seem even harder. Mingled Roots helps instruct grandparents on the etiquette of being a Jewish role model while respecting the parents' wishes concerning religion.

In this hands-on guide, Sunie Levin employs humor, history, and real life experience to present a program that works. Levin has created a guide that shows grandparents productive ways of sharing their Jewish heritage without imposing on their intermarried children. The expertise of rabbis, priests, ministers, grandparents and interfaith couples have come together in this comprehensive guide. Sunie addresses every imaginable dilemma, from introducing your grandchild to celebration and traditions of Shabbat to explaining death and the importance of sitting shiva. She lays down strict rules for grandparents, simultaneously supporting the passing on of tradition from generation to generation while reminding them that parents are the final authority on what a child does and does not learn.

Complete with a bibliography of resources for grandparents as well as grandchildren, Mingled Roots is an invaluable tool for anyone facing grandparenting in an interfaith environment.
