This book in the Liberty Letters series---for girls ages 10 and up--- is set against the background of World War II Two close friends, Catherine Clark and Meredith Lyons, share in the trials involved in having their fathers in the war. Catherine's father has recently been called as a naval officer to Pearl Harbor from Washington, but because of her brother's illness, the rest of the family stays behind. This disappoints the girls, as Meredith's family has just moved to Honolulu. Both girls involve themselves in the war effort and their friendship proves to be invaluable.

I appreciate the faith-based outlook the Liberty Letters series is written with, and for this one I specifically liked the different personalities of the two main characters, and inclusion of real people from history was well woven in. The pre-war 40s vibes (again, barring the war, which isn’t a vibe of any kind) were nice and not forced for the most part. The descriptions of December 7th were poignant, stressful and pretty honest without being graphic to the extent the real event was. Some writing stylistics were a little clunky and I was on the fence about what seemed too on-the-nose or not. Overall, an informative and nice read.
Really good! I really enjoyed this book, and loved how these letters played on each other. These characters are both beautifully crafted and have clear voices. This was a great book... :)
